What are you using the create the PDF? You need to run optical character recognition (OCR) on the text to convert it from image text to editable/searchable text. If you have Acrobat, you can run OCR by choosing Optimize Scanned PDF from the Document Processing panel on the Tools pane.
(As for applying/editing security. Did you assign security, and now can't change it? Or did you think there may be some security settings that are preventing you from selecting text?)

You can open them but you will totally rasterize everything.
PDFs are not intended to be edited. They are a final format but as
mentioned you can use Acrobat for some minor text edits or use it to
extract the images to Photoshop for further editing.

But the word 'latent' is not searchable although the word 'unobserved' is searchable in acrobat. Does anybody what should be the correct way to edit a pdf file.
What does the Td, Tj and the numbers, such as 10.3348, mean? Why a word are separated into many letters enclosed by ()?

I know that pdf is usually compressed and pdftk can help decompress it. That is why I get the text format of the pdf code segments that I showed.
The ISO 32000-1 document is too thick for me to digest. I know that if I should be able to find all the information that need from ISO 32000-1. But I'm wondering whether there is more concised document for my particular question.
Also, I try to use Acrobat (TouchUP Text tool) to edit the pdf, but it always says "All or part of the selection has no available system font. You cannot add or delete text using the currently selected font." I find the following solution. But it doesn't really help, because I can not delete text if there is no system availabe font for the text that I'm going to delete.

Hi,
You have the choice between xml or pdf, in later versions of designer you can choose with a dropdown on the email button Object palette, the "Submit As";
In earlier version you had to edit the XML Source and change the format from xml to pdf (or vice-versa);

How to generate a PDF format report

here i am trying to generate the report as 'PDF' format from the form. after i run the form a parameter form comes up there i give parameter as 'IC' it should get only the IC related report in 'PDF' format. i could do this but after i close the adobe and return to the report its not over writing on the same file where i gave the DESNAME:='C:\KAVITHA8.PDF'. its taking atleast 10 minutes to rewrite on the same file.
i tried first the following way to get the PDF format output but its not even working.

THIS IS NOT WORKING TOO.

All the information you described points to the problem that reports seems can't generate to a file which already exist. You can verify that by simply doing
r30run32 C:\AC_REPORT.REP DESTYPE = FILE DESFORMAT = PDF BATCH = YES' desname=c:\temp\ac_report.pdf
several times. If first time the report is successfully generated in c:\temp\ac_report.pdf, but not the second, third time, then it looks like there is a bug on reports r30run32 executable.
You may try to find any latest patch for Reports 3.0 to see if patch can solve you problem. But keep in mind Reports 3.0 is de-supported, you are better to move to 6i or 9i reports.

CONVERT_OTF which convers OTF code into PDF afterthat u can download or do FTP.

How to edit the text generated by OCR

Using Arobat Pro 8 I have scanned in a booklet with text in it. The OCR function has made it searchable and Read Out Loud too but how do I edit this text as some pages have errors on them due to graphics on the page interfearing with them. I tried using Document > OCR Text Recognition > Fin all OCR Suspects but nothing comes up!

Since there are "Image Only", "Image and Hidden Text" and "Text" pdfs that can be created by OCRing, you can only edit the PDFs that have visible text.

Since you posted under iMac PPC forum, which is for iMacs that can't run any operating system newer than August 28, 2009, I can't say specifically what the capabilities of your version of Preview are. Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac. If you have an Intel, you do not have a PPC. If you have a G5, G4 or G3, you posted to the right forum, and just need to find the version of Preview you have in Applications folder.

I have a requirement to design the screen using Java Webdynpro, where I have to give a option of uploading PDF form (which can be maximum of 10 mb size each) .it can be 2 or 3 files( maximum) per commit statement.
Also I need to have to validation to validate the document whether its a Pdf formatted or not? If not I have to raise the information Message saying that"Upload the PDF format file only".
and also need to design one more field in the (Java Webdynpro screen below the above described field) which need to have the history of the attachment with button to remove the selected attachments?
how to acheive this requirement Please advice

To upload a document in WD you can use the FileUpload UI element

You could go to System - User Profile - Own Data would take you to the "maintain user profile screen"
Click the defaults button and change the date format.This changes date format for all the dates in your login.
