How to fill areas with Fireworks CS4?

How can I fill areas created with a pen tablet in more than
one layer with Fireworks CS4?
I need to fill areas created with vector path tool divided in
more layers like a raster image but without converting strokes to a
raster image.
For example hair of a man...
Do you know a trick or a tecnique?

Is there a reason each path is it's own object? Do they have
to remain
this way?
If they don't, you can select the paths that make up the
different areas
and try using Modify > Alter Path > Join or Modify
> Alter Path >
Union. You will probably need to remove some anchor points if
you choose
one of these options.
Are you aware of the Vector path tool which let's you draw a
path
freehand? That might be a better option than the Pen tool.

Creating standards-compliant web designs with Fireworks CS4 Problems

i have some problems with using background image slices.
here is it(from the DevNet arcticle creating standards
compliant web designs with fireworks cs4):
With this feature, seeing really is believing, so let's get
straight to it:
1. Create a new 500 × 500 document.
2. Draw a 200 × 40 rectangle.
3. Set the background color as #000099.
4. Set its fill to be a Linear gradient.
5. Change the first Gradient node's color to #9999FF.

i followed these steps exactly but i get no tiled background
only the 200 x 40 rectangle.can anyone tell me what's wrong ?

I followed these steps exactly and also viewed the HTML/CSS
exported in Firefox 3.0.5, and the rectangle appeared with the
correctly tiled gradient background. (I'm on a Win XP SP3 machine.)
I tried changing the canvas color to transparent, moving the
rectangle and slice around, changing the width of the slice, and
even changing the horizontal and vertical positioning of the
background image, and the export was still correct. Is it possible
your background image slice is not placed over the gradient? Have
you looked at the CSS exported to confirm that "bg_rect.gif" is
listed as the background image for the DIV and that the .GIF file
is being exported and is a narrow gradient image? Are all of the
export options correct? (There's only a few export options for CSS
and images (.htm), so I doubt this is your problem...)
At risk of asking the obvious, are you using Fireworks CS4
with the updated CSS/HTML extension from the article installed?
HTML/CSS export works differently between CS3 and CS4 - John
Wylie's extension was created for CS3, and Matt Stow updated it for
CS4.

I already read the user manual but I won't be able to find a solution...

One way is to open the template and select the table with the fill pattern. Open the table inspector
highlight the Image fill cell (in the "Cell Background" section). Copy.
Now open the application Preview in the Applications folder. Select the menu item "File > New From Clipboard" to create a new document with the image you copied. Now save the image as a pdf using the menu item "File > Save..."
Save it with a name you can remember in a location of your choice.
Now select a table in some other Numbers document and set the table background to the image you just saved by using the Table Inspctor:

Design Flex with Fireworks CS4 or Flex Builder?

I need help in making a process decision on how to build Flex
Apps going forward.
In the past, we have built the concept for our Flex app in
Photoshop and sent it over to our development team in India to
build. The process has been difficult because our engineers are not
designers and our designers are not engineers. Invariably we spend
alot of time bridging the gap between whats possible and what we
want to see in our Apps.
I want to bring our Design and Dev much closer together and
essentially take the GUI out of the hands of my Indian Developers
who choose to work in raw XML rather than Builder today.
To accomplish this goal, I will be training my US Design team
to become either Fireworks Experts or Flex Builder Experts....
(they are already Photoshop experts) This is where I need your
help. If you were starting from scratch with a talented design team
that could learn either tool, which one would you choose to
accomplish the goal? Does the Fireworks to Flex export create
crappy code like Dreamweaver thats tough to modify manually? Does a
"true" Flex developer despise Fireworks-generated code?
I have read up on the Fireworks>Flash Catalyst>Flex
Builder Path and dont understand the additional step... is Catalyst
part of Fireworks and thats how Flex code is developed or is it a
new code generation engine that does code better than Fireworks
CS4?

Here's my recommendation:
I would suggest Fireworks for your Design team/ Flexbuilder
for your dev team.
Essentially, what Fireworks already has in terms of Flex UI
components (though a short list) is identical in theme (default
halo) AND output (mxml code) as you would expect from creating in
Flexbuilder alone.
You can then easily extend your designs with custom
components using the Fw Commands Export Flex Skins and they can be
imported to your Flex project using the CSS Designer.
As for Catalyst, this is a separate beast altogether. It's
merely meant to bridge designs (from design applications Ps, Ill,
Fw) and create usable components for complete animations.

As for how Fw fits into the Catalyst scheme of things,
designs you create can be exported to the FXG format that Catalyst
will use, if you want to use Flex and work with this format you

Dynamically fill area with words from list

hello all,
i would like to fill the entire area of a flash movie with
words.
the movie starts out blank, but as time goes on the visible
area fills with words from a pre-written list.
ideally, the height and width of the words is randomized
within a range i determine.
i wouldn't mind being pointed to a tutorial that shows how to
fill an area with randomly-sized rectangles, that might help.
eventually, i want to be able to control the speed of the
area being filled with an input device (mouse or external sensor)
but first things first!

How to fill array with random number?

I need to fill a 3-dimensional array that has user-controlled dimension sizes with random numbers (1-10). I'm unsure of how to do this. I feel like I have to use the initialize array and maybe the build array functions somehow but I'm not entirely sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Always create and keep a copy of the original artwork before you start destroying it.
As I (mis)understand it, you may:
1) Select all the paths and change them to stroke/nofill so you can see what you are doing;
2) Click each of the corner Anchor Points on either side of each gap in the outer shape;
3) Delete all the paths that form no part of the outer shape;
4) Select the remaining paths and Ctrl/Cmd+J to join them into one path;
5) Switch back to fill/nostroke.

How to fill matrix with the output of recordset query?

Hi all,
I want a user matrix to load data when I hit a button and the data to be filled is the output of an sql query. binding the matrix columns with table columns and then load the matrix with DBDatasource attached to that table will not do in this case as the columns in the sql query are from several different tables or views.
writing following line to do this takes several minutes to load the data:
For j = 0 To Reordset.RecordCount - 1
Matrix.AddRow()
Matrix.Columns.Item("col1").Cells.Item(i).Specific.value = Recordset.Fields.Item("cardcode").Value
Recordset.movenext()
next
Is there any other way to fill the matrix in this case, which loads the data faster?

I've tested the CFL for DataTable-Matrixes in my test-AddOn. But there's still one problem left. Maybe you find it out (I will need this in the future too...).

What's the error?
BE wary of the amount of data in a DataSet, 5000 rows could be max but it all depends on the number of columns.
Stick with using the Database direct connection rather than using Datasets. DS's use a lot of memory and limited.
If you don't want to use a direct connection then save your data as a XML file.
Search, I've posted code on how to do this.

Empty app screen? How to fill screens with apps?

I used to have 4 pages of apps. After the 3.0 update I have 5 and my second app screen, which used to be full of apps, now only has one app. I know an app was added but this shouldn't have happened.
So - how do I "back-fill" the screens so that there are no gaps? Like it used to be. For example, how do I move apps from screen 3 to screen 2?

How to fill shape with pattern... and cut outline?

I have an old plotter that works great for making drawings. I can fill a shape with a pattern, convert the pattern to outlines (or strokes) BUT my problem is that the outline of the original shape remains, and this will be plotted. I do not want an outline of the original shape, I want the pattern to create the shape. Any ideas? How to do slices with Fireworks

I need to know how to change with slice tool images from gif
to jpg?
Currently it shows me gif format but do not know where to
change this format or this is not possible. Need help

In the Optimize panel, far right. If it's not showing, Window
> Optimize
should bring it up.
