How to generate an Letter in PDF format.. (APEX 4.0)

Hi All,
I want to generate a report in Letter format .. the output format is PDF.
For example consider EMP table .. from this im going to query and show the columns of
EMP_NAME , ADDRESS, SALARY,DESIGNATION
And in this report i ll be have an check box for each row... if i check it for 5 particular employee from the report .. i have to generate an letters for those employees which i have checked in PDF format.
OUtPUT should be like::

I have worked in JASPER REPORTS for generating reports .... just wanted too know that anyother way is there to generate pdf report in APEX.
With your replies i came too know about other reporting tools .. once again thanks for your help ..
So the conclusion is we cant get the PFD directly from Apex without integrating anyone those tools rite.......

One 'simple' way is by using the DBMS_SCHEDULER db package and the procedure CREATE_JOB(....) using as job_type the value 'EXECUTABLE'...
Read for further info in 'PL/SQL Packages and Types Reference'.
If you have access to OEM ... you can configure this there using wizard.....
Other way is to use the External Procedure call capabiblity of Oracle DB Server...:

One round about way to get a pdf screen shot is tick 'print to file' and use a printer which is set up with a postcript driver. This gives a postscript file which can be converted to pdf using 'ghostscript and gsview' (available free from gnu via various sites).

How to send the output to PDF format in reports 6i? I given Mode = BITMAP.
DESTYPE = File, DESFORMAT = PDF, DESNAME = C:\x.pdf.
Report is running fine. But PDF file not generated. I don't know what i missed. Any one can help this?

Do you get this problem only for DESFORMAT=PDF ?
Test with :
DESFORMAT = RTF, DESNAME = C:\x.rtf
or
DESFORMAT = HTMLCSS, DESNAME = C:\x.html
does it work ?
Check if DESNAME is modified in the reports itself.

How to generate a report in pdf from a stored proc

Hi, i need guidance on how to generate a report in pdf from an oracle stored proc.
The environment is oracle 10gas + 10gdb.
On a specific event, a PL/SQL stored procedure is called to do some processing and at the end of the processing to generate report which has to be sent to the printer (and optionally previewed by the user).
Can anyone assist me with this?

How to open the file in PDF format

There is a requirement on our page that , on click of a button a procedure will be called. If that procedure returns “S” i.e success , then I need to open a new browser window and also set the url for the window (all programmatically). That url opens a letter in pdf format. If it is error , I should display the error on the page. Please provide any kind of solutions.

Where is PDF stored after generation? a blob or a location on unix server? or it gives u a byte stream at runtime?

Generate Portal reports in PDF format

How can I generate Portal reports with the output in PDF format and send it as an attachment using email (UTL_SMTP)?

Portal itself does not have the facility (unless they've added it recently but that would seem to me to make no sense). Use a report writer (the run-time library for Oracle Reports is part of the 9ias install) which have such facilities and allows the resultant file to be saved on the reports server which you can then send as an attachment using a proc you write with utl_smtp package (although, some report writers may already have that facility built in). If you don't like that option, Adobe sells packages that provide APIs to convert files into PDFs (you write the file to the server using the utl_file package assuming the db is Oracle, you could also write to the client's FSO but that's bad form). Or, if your really over-ambitous, you can attempt to write your own application to convert the file but then you'd need to know the PDF internals (and don't re-invent the wheel anyway). As above, you'd need to write an smtp-based package to pick up those files.

To create or edit your marketing image:

To add your own background or cover design, click the Backgrounds & Pictures tab. Click on the marketing image thumbnail and follow the instructions to upload and save a new marketing image.
To edit or remove the preconfigured title and/or author name from your marketing image, click on the Text tab.
