How to generate trace file from different session?

I have a cron job which starts several Oracle stored proc (Oracle 9.2). I want to generate a trace file when the job is running. I know I can use this alter session command before I start this job. But this is my session not the job session. So this command won't generate trace file for job's session.
ALTER SESSION SET EVENTS '10046 TRACE NAME CONTEXT FOREVER, LEVEL 8';
Appreciate any ideas.
Thanks.
S.

Easiest way is to use database control/grid control - click trace session button!
The 'old fashioned way is'
begin
DBMS_SYSTEM.SET_SQL_TRACE_IN_SESSION(SID,serial#,TRUE);
end;
find sid and serial# in a select from v$session
There are other ways too but this is probably the easiest.
You'll need appropriate privileges to run this .

  • How to generate Trace files

    Hi,
    I have a package under which there are some procedures and functions.
    I am supposed to generate the trace files for each run of the procedures in the package.
    How to generate trace files? Pls help me out.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Vijay

    I dont have access to production server to see the
    trace file. Is there a way to see the content of the
    trace file from client machine?No. At least there isn't one without additional work from your administrator. I remember I've seen somewhere some kind of solution when user_dump_dest is used as oracle directory (specific oracle object) in your db and then use either external tables or utl_file or something like that to read the trace file. Of course this assumes your DBA should do some work before.
    However I'd say that simply getting trace file from server is much easier :)
    Consider, Autotrace option in sqlplus. With the help
    of Autotrace set option, we can see the trace output
    on the sqlplus screen for the anonymous blocks. Different tool, different behaviour.
    Is there a way to see the trace for the stored
    procedures?Explained above.

  • How to include header files from different directories?

    Hi,
    Sorry for the newb question, but I can't figure this out. I'm trying to compile a simple piece of code (C++) that uses header files in a directory different from the Project directory; header files are in /opt/csw/postgresql/include/pqxx. I've tried a few different things, adding that directory to the include directives under Resource Files, add existing files from a folder, etc etc. Whenever I try to build, dmake bails with status -1. I can't seem to get this working, can someone explain how to use header files from different directories?
    Thanks,
    SlowToady

    Header files are usually specified relative to a base directory. If the base directory is not a system directory -- /usr/include or the compiler installation directory -- add a command-line directive
    -I path/to/base/dirfor each such directory.
    The path can be absolute, such as
    -i /opt/csw/postgresql/includeor relative, such as
    -I ../../my/includeIn your source code, specify the header file relative to the base directory, and be sure to use quotes, not angle brackets. Example:
    #include "header.h"  // right
    #include <header.h>  // wrongThe angle brackets are used for system headers, like <iostream> or <stdlib.h>.
    The rules above are common to all compilers on Unix and Linux, and generally to all C and C++ compilers.
    For more details, read about the -I option in the C++ Users Guide. You can find the guide by pointing your browser to the "docs" directory in the compiler installation, or go here:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-5267
    All command-line options are described in Appendix A.

  • Generating Trace file for ODI Sessions

    ODI Gurus
    am new to ODI, for one of our integration project am using ODI for transforming data from Source to Target Instance.
    Oracle Database is installed on both Source and Target instances. Is there a way to generate Database Trace files for ODI sessions triggered.
    If yes can you provide the steps to enable/disable database trace for ODI sessions.
    Regards
    Uma Shankar

    Hi Uma Shankar,
    My assumptions:
    1.) You want to selectively enable Oracle tracing when only the ODI scenarios are executed and not otherwise.
    If that is the case then you will have to add some external steps comprising of OS commands and variables that will control if those steps are to be executed or not. These steps will invoke the OS commands to start Oracle tracing.
    2.) You know the steps to create a package and know how to use Interfaces and other ODI utilities in the flow of the package.
    3.) You know how to create and execute scenarios
    Steps to Selectively enable tracing.
    1.) Add a variable named V_START_TRACE to the package. This variable will be passed a value from scenario which will determine if you want to enable to trace or not. This variable type is EVALUATE and can have 2 values - TRUE or FALSE. You will have to check for the condition and depending on the condition you will take a path forward.
    2.) Add 2 OS commands to the package - OS_START_TRACE and OS_END_TRACE
    3.) Create 2 shell scripts (or bat files) - odi_start_trace.sh and odi_end_trace.sh with the following commands:
    odi_start_trace.sh :-
    sqlplus session - ALTER SYSTEM SET trace_enabled = TRUE;
    odi_end_trace.sh :-
    sqlplus session - ALTER SYSTEM SET trace_enabled = FALSE;
    You need to invoke SQLPLUS sessions from the above shell scripts to enable/disable the oracle level tracing.
    4.) Add the above shell scripts to the OS commands created in Step 2.
    5.) Join the steps in the following order in the package :
    V_START_TRACE (OK) ->OS_START_TRACE (OK) -> <<+Your Actual Integration Code+>>(OK) -> OS_END_TRACE
    V_START_TRACE (KO) -> <<+Your Actual Integration Code+>>(OK)
    The above KO variable statement doesnt start the trace if the evaluated value doesnt = TRUE. So this will let you do a selective trace.
    6.) Create the scenario from the package and execute the scenario by passing it a value "TRUE" for variable V_START_TRACE.
    Check the startscen.sh syntax, something like:
    *>startscen.sh ... "GLOBAL.V_START_TRACE=TRUE"*
    The above is a general solution for enabling trace for any RDBMS
    If you need any more information, feel free to ping back.

  • How to access Excel files from different locations?

    Hello,
    I have successfully tested the Excel sample on WLS 7, and trying to run it on
    the WLS 8.1.
    Anyways, the common question for both is, how to access an excel files from different
    locations (e.g. c:\path\1.xls, \\domain1\finance\fin.xls, \\domain1\marketing\customer.xls,
    \\domain2\accounts\vouchers.xls)?
    From example i can see that it picks from a specific path under repository.
    Thanks
    Ashok Gupta

    The custom function sets the MS-Excel default directory to System.getProperty("user.dir")+"/excel"
    (the domain directory), then opens the filename passed as a parameter. I assume
    that if you pass in the fully specified path for the excel file ( like d:\MyDir\data\test.xls),
    that it would open that file.

  • How to generate XML file from SQL file !

    I am new to XML publisher. I known one way to generate XML file is register one report file in concurrent manager.
    But I want to generate XML file from sql file.
    Could someone show me how to code in sql file, how to register is in concurrent manager.
    Thanks !

    Hi
    Phew ... not sure we have the space here. So I can point you in the right direction:
    1. XML data generation - there are two packages in the db you can use with a plsql procedure, XMLGEN and SQL XML. You can also use java APIs too. Try checking the db documentation and search for the above methods.
    2. Registering the report - the system administrators guide will provide this info. Hooking the program up with XMLP is covered here - http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/applications/publishing/resource/CM%20Whitepaper5.0.pdf

  • How to generate .java file from xml?

    Does anyone have an idea of how i can generate .java file from xml file? Tools like jakrata digester, JOX are there but both of them are useful in populating java beans from xml. My requirement is to generate .java file from .xml with getters and setters methods for xml elements/attributes. I also tried JAXB. But JAXB generates bunch of files and most of them are interfaces, which is not going to work for me.
    For e.g. i have following xml file and i want to generate Address.java file with getters/setters. Any ideas?
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' ?>
    <Address>
    <FirstName type="String"/>
    <PoBox type="int"/>

  • How to generate a file from JSP form

    Hi,
    I want to generate a file from the informations of a form(JSP).
    Which classes do I have to use ?
    Thanks.

    Of course you have to use the standard servlet classes to retrieve the request parameters from the form.
    ie request.getParameter();
    package "java.io" gives you File input/output ability.
    If you are generating a text file, thats probably the BufferedWriter and FileWriter classes.

  • Best Practices:: How to generate XML file from a ResultSet

    Hi all,
    Could someone please suggest the best practices of how to generate an XML file from a resultset? I am developing a web application in Java with Oracle database and one of my tasks is to generate an XML file when the user, for example, click a "download as XML" button on the JSP. The application is basically like an Order with line items. I am using Struts and my first thought has been to have an action class which will extend struts's DownloadAction and through StAX's Iterator API to create an XML file. I intend to have a POJO which will have properties of all columns of my order and line items tables so that for each order I get all line items and:
    1. Write order details then
    2. Through an iterator write line items of that order to an XML file.
    I will greatly appreciate for comments or suggestions on the best way to do this through any pointers on the Web.
    alex

    Use a OracleWebRowSet in which an XML representation of the result set may be obtained.
