How to get notified about silent updates?

I just realized that Firefox 4 has this silent update feature.
What if I always hibernate my machine, and never restart the browser?
How should I know, that I should've restarted the browser ages ago, because some new security/addons update appeared years ago?

You can change the update options.
# Open the Options window (Click the orange Firefox button, then select Options)
# Go to the Advanced panel, and then the Update tab
# For the option "When updates to Firefox are found" select "Ask me what I want to do"

  • How to get notified when an update is available

    Hi I am a bbz30 user from india. I just purchased the beuty a month back. I have a question I am not getting the updates automatically through the BlackBerry world I have to manually check each day each time doing a auto refresh.
    I have been a regular at crackberry and also waited for 2 good odd days post reading a new update roll out still no notification or a pop up. At the end all I did was manually refreshed my world and updates were there..
    Is this usual with BlackBerry or its my luck that updates are not hitting my phone???

    It's not uncommon for the updated app notifications to take a day or so after they are released.
    Usually I read on twitter or the forum that  an update is available and I manually check App World and there it is...
    Sometimes, on lesser known apps, I will see a notification first.

  • How To Get AppleToCare About You (iOS7 wifi solved)

    I recently encountered the now seemingly infamous iOS7 upgrade wifi bug. After upgrading to iOS 7.1.1 my wifi was subsequently knocked out. After reading skimming the forums and trying a few of the suggested work arounds I was still unable to get my wifi working (at all). I decided to wait for the next software update assuming Apple would fix the bug. What can I say? I like to believe people are inherently good and accountable. No such luck. When I went back to the forums for a better understanding of the problem I was (somewhat) surprised to discover the magnitude of the issue. For me, the end result was a new FREE iPhone despite my warranty expiring several months ago.
    Try all of the (reasonable) suggested solutions. They did not work for me but that does not mean they will not work for you - no seriously actually try them:
    I turned off wifi and bluetooth, set the phone to airplane mode, turned it off, left it off for several minutes, turned it back on - Nothing.
    I reset my Wifi Router - Nothing.
    I reset all Settings - Nothing.
    I reset my Network Connection - Nothing.
    I did a Soft Reset - Hold down the power and home buttons simultaneously and do not release until after the screen goes black and the apple logo appears. - Nothing.
    I did a Hard Reset (aka Factory Reset) - BACK UP YOUR PHONE FIRST. I connected to iTunes and performed a backup then hit restore (within iTunes). This can be done directly from your phone but if you're here because you're experiencing wifi issues your phone is probably not backed up to iCloud.
    Genius Bar. BE POLITE but firm and know your stuff. They don't owe you anything. Well Apple kinda does, but the employees in the store didn't break your phone so don't act like they did. At the end of the day Apple wrote a buggy code and isn't acknowledging the problem or compensating it's loyal customers. The only way Apple will be held accountable for leaving so many customers out to dry is if customers demand it. However, the Genius Bar is not the place to take out your rage. When I went into the Genius Bar I explained the issue I was having and the steps I had taken in an attempt to fix it. I let her run all the tests and tricks she wanted (knowing full well they weren't going to work). She politely explained to me that I would need to purchase a new phone. I explained to her that I could not, in good conscious, give a company money to solve a problem that they caused. (Some people are crying conspiracy on the part of Apple to get people to buy new phones but I haven't drank the punch yet. - I only took a sip.) I asked if she could do anything else for me. She told me that AppleCare might be responsive to my issue despite my expired warranty as they are a separate entity from Genius Bar and have more authority to help customers. I (sincerely) thanked her (several times) for helping me and asked if I could speak to a manager just to see if there was anything else they could do in store. She said absolutely and that she would "grab a nice manager". I spoke with the manager and briefly explained the issue. I then explained my issue lies primarily with Apple's business model. I, personally, take excellent care of my devices and expect them to last more than a year. I expect that when I buy a device with a premium reputation and a premium price tag that it should be supported by the company for a reasonable amount of time. The iPhone 4s is still being sold in stores and Apple is already neglecting 4s customers - (WILDLY) unacceptable.  The manager was very nice about it and expressed that I made valid points and my frustration was justified but yet no solution.
    AppleCare. After stopping in the Windows store to check possible new phones I trudged home. (Despite my fortunate result I still have a sour taste in my mouth from Apple's method of forcing customers to spend money unnecessarily on constantly changing but marginally improving products. I'm now seriously considering a Windows tablet to replace my aging MacBook.) Anyway, when I got home I called AppleCare and had a very similar exchange with the associate on the phone as I'd had in the store and was subsequently transferred my to a manager. Again, I was extremely polite to the associate and grateful for the help but made a firm point of dissatisfaction with Apple. When I got on the phone with the manager our exchange was quite short but he acknowledged that because the issues arose from a software update causing a hardware problem Apple would compensate me. (Yes, software can physically affect hardware. The CIA uses code to blow up bomb detonators masked as cell phones. It's dope. There's a TED talk about it.) In the end I got a new iPhone for FREE (with a standard replacement fee - ok Apple you won that round. It's still significantly less money I'd spend on a new phone from Apple or elsewhere).
    Moral of the story: Be polite but demand more from the companies you made (filthy) rich. Companies don't care about their customers as much as they should and we can't sit around and wait for them to behave themselves. We need to demand it (even if it ruins our Sunday afternoons). I'd also like to make it known that several times during these exchanges that I'm probably ditching Apple for good. If you use that approach you should be ready to back it up. I'm probably not going to buy another MacBook as I'm a grown up now doing actual work and Apple's inability to play nice with others makes it really difficult to run much of the software at the level I need. (Programmers, you know what I'm talking about!)  As for phones, I require much less of my phone.  Beyond, you know, using it as an actual phone, I really only use the GPS, music, photos, and web browser so I've always been a fan of the iPhone. After this, however, I don't know if I'll be getting another. I don't like spending money when I don't need to, especially if it's just making fat cats fatter.

    Now how can we get the information about the user/his machine etc. at database level. earlier in 6i/8i we use to get by using
    USERENV('TERMINAL')
    we had written a triggers on tables on Insert/Update where we used to update a database field Last user terminal with USERENV('TERMINAL')
    but not this information is comming to be the machine name of application server where as we wish this to be the machine name of Client. Any Way outs

    hi, you can use the sys_context function, like this:
    select sys_context('userenv','current_user'),
         sys_context('userenv','os_user'),
         sys_context('userenv','host'),
         sys_context('userenv','ip_address'),
         sys_context('userenv','instance'),
         sys_context('userenv','sessionid'),
         sys_context('userenv','terminal')
    from dual;

  • How to get information about limitation Internal Memory on device

    hallo ..
    have some question here, so please some person able to answer my questions
    1. How to get Information about limitation internal memory on device
    2. is possible to improve internal memory on Blackberry ( move apps on external memory )
    3. any tools to get internal memory activity ?
    thanks for this people who joins here, hope we can share more information about blackberry ..

    In addition...
    There are three types of potential memory on a BB: 1) Application Memory, 2) Device Memory, and 3) Media/SD Card Memory.
    Application Memory -- This is the most crucial; it is the protected (not user accessible), dedicated, and fixed (in size) space that is available as the destination for the installation of applications (plus some application storage, overhead and such). You cannot touch AppMemory. You cannot improve the maximum AppMemory that your BB has. It is what it is. Applications can only install here...there is no option.
    Device Memory -- This is space on your BB that you can touch to store files, pictures, media, etc. Typically, it is not terribly large, but it is available to you.
    SD/Media Card Memory-- This is what it says...your SD card, for you to store files, media, pictures, etc. It can be as large as your BB OS can support...see this KB:
    KB05461MicroSD card sizes supported by the BlackBerry device software
    On some devices/OS levels, you can only see "File Free" (Options > Status), which I think is equivalent to AppMemory. On other devices, you can see all three memory usage levels (Options > Memory). Here are some guidelines to use:
    KB02843What is the Low Memory Manager feature on the BlackBerry smartphone
    KB14320How to maximize free space and battery power on the BlackBerry smartphone
    KB14213Call logs, SMS text messages, and email messages are deleted from the BlackBerry smartphone
    Lastly, it is always important to properly close applications when you are done with them. Using the Back or the Red key will not do this -- those leave it to the app to decide what to do...and some will leave themselves resident in memory, consuming resources on your BB, slowing the overall performance. Rather, to close an app, press and select "Close" or "Exit"...that will force the application to be closed, freeing up for your new use the resources it was consuming. Some apps will always remain running (typically -- BBMessenger, Browser, Homescreen, Phone, and Messages)...but, you should still close them properly - especially the Browser...if it is left on an active web page, it will not only consume extra resources but battery power as well.
    Further, anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure. Some have taken to doing this on a regular basis as a preventive measure...some as frequently as once per day. Others have obtained the QuickPull app to automate a simulated Batt-Pull.
    Good luck!

    For Host Name * Created Time Use This Command In PowerShell
    Get-VM -Name (Read-Host "Type Your Vm Name") |select CreationTime , ComputerName
    and for Create User , As i know you should see on Event Log .
    Go To Event Log Viewer--->Applications And Services Logs--->Microsoft--->Windows--->Hyper-V-VMMS--->Operational

    - Get notified when any changes happens on any VMs.
    Our target servers are Windows Server(2008, 2008 R2, 2012, and 2012 R2)
    We tried to get the notification using "Event Viewer" on different Windows servers (2008, 2008 R2, 2012, and 2012 R2)
    We were able to get event-logs only on one of our 2012 R2 server as described below on creation/deletion of VMs (on another 2012 R2 server, we did not got any such event, Is there any setting required on host computer to get Hyper-V event-logs in "Event
    Viewer"?)

    Thanks for your reply,
    Just to make it more clear:
    In our environment we have enabled Hyper-V on following Windows servers: 2012 R2, 2012, 2008 R2, 2008. The environment is very dynamic, VMs are getting created and deleted very frequently. Our intention is to get notified by any means on VM creation/deletion,
    currently we are relying on event-logs (we are OK with any different mechanism for such notification if there exists, i,e other than event-logs)
    We were able to get event-logs only on few of our 2012 R2 server on creation/deletion of VMs. On another 2012 R2 server, we did not got any such event (do we need to make some settings on 2012 R2 to get events? If yes, what are those settings).
    Also we are not getting any such event of VM creation/deletion on our Windows Server 2012, 2008, 2008 R2. Is there any setting required on hese host computer to get Hyper-V event-logs in "Event Viewer" for VM creation/deletion?

  • How to get information about cursor? I had only a reference on it.

    Hello
    How to get information about cursor, that I receive in my procedure as a reference. For example I need to know, a number of columns. I know nothing about this cursor, except the link on it.
    Best Regards, Kostya Proskudin!

    However, I would seriously reconsider what you are trying to achieve.
    It looks like you are trying to write some ultimately generic cursor processor. i.e. pass any cursor and process it in some generic way.
    Good design should include knowledge of what is expected to be passed and that knowledge can be put into the code.
    Generic code is inherently difficult to maintain and debug and will never 100% deal with all possible situations e.g. even if you know the table being queried in the cursor you can't rely on the data dictionary to give you all the returned columns if some of the returned columns of the cursor are computed columns.
    Be careful you aren't writing something that's going to cause problems later.

  • How to get notified when ever I select any frame (any page item) ?

    I have added a observer class in my plugin which derives from ActiveSelectionObserver.
    But my observer constructor is not getting called when i select a page item. (In short, I am not getting notified about the selection)
    below is my code:
    class CSDTSelectionObserverImpl : public ActiveSelectionObserver
    public:
      CSDTSelectionObserverImpl(IPMUnknown *boss);
       virtual ~CSDTSelectionObserverImpl();
    protected:
       virtual void    HandleSelectionChanged (const ISelectionMessage*);
       virtual void HandleSelectionAttributeChanged(const ISelectionMessage* selectionMessage);
    CREATE_PMINTERFACE(CSDTSelectionObserverImpl, kCSDTSelectionObserverImpl)
    CSDTSelectionObserverImpl::CSDTSelectionObserverImpl(IPMUnknown *boss) : ActiveSelectionObserver(boss,IID_ICSDTSELECTIONOBSERVER) { }
    CSDTSelectionObserverImpl::~CSDTSelectionObserverImpl() { }
    void CSDTSelectionObserverImpl::HandleSelectionChanged(const ISelectionMessage* selectionMessage) { }
    void CSDTSelectionObserverImpl::HandleSelectionAttributeChanged(const ISelectionMessage* selectionMessage) {
    if (selectionMessage && selectionMessage->WasSuiteAffected(IID_ILAYOUTSELECTION_ISUITE))
    Also, In my .fr file, I have added below:
    AddIn
      kDocBoss,
      kInvalidClass,
        IID_ICSDTSELECTIONOBSERVER, kCSDTSelectionObserverImpl,
    Do I need to implement the ILayoutSelectionSuite as well to get the notification on page item selection or implementing Observer via ActiveSelectionObserver is sufficient?
    Please help.

    I tried below in debug mode , but it gave me error while execution (when the line of code was called by in-design)
    InterfacePtr<ILayoutSelectionSuite> iLayoutSelectionSuite(fCurrentSelection, UseDefaultIID());
            if (iLayoutSelectionSuite == nil)
                break;
    iLayoutSelectionSuite->SelectPageItems(selection,Selection::kReplace,Selection::kDontScrollLayoutSelection); // Error
    So I was not able to get the UIDList of the selected page items, hence I used below code and this is working.
      InterfacePtr<const IIntegratorTarget> iIntegratorTarget(iLayoutSelectionSuite, UseDefaultIID());
            std::auto_ptr<IIntegratorTarget::TargetSuiteCollection> selectionSuites(iIntegratorTarget->GetTarget(ILayoutTarget::kDefaultIID));
            for(IIntegratorTarget::TargetSuiteCollection::size_type i = 0; i < selectionSuites->size(); i++)
                ILayoutTarget* target = (ILayoutTarget*)selectionSuites->at(i).get();
                if(!target)
                    continue;
                selection = target->GetUIDList(kDontStripStandoffs);
    But it would have been much easier and logical if I can get it using IlayoutSelectionSuite or if there is some better approach ?
    Please let me know.

  • How to get notify when new Email comes in...

    hi, any idea on how to get notify from phone when there is new email comes in to mailbox with specific key words in the subject, says like "urgent" ..... what are the components that i need to integrate with??
    messaging version 6.2

    Hi,
    Off the top of my head there are two ways:
    1. Use the ENS service to notify when messages arrive - filter out the ones you want. This is going to require some programming and a way to send the notification to the phone.
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2655
    2. Use a user-level sieve filter to send a copy of the messages you want to another email address which triggers an SMS.

    How to get an better screen-update? The view on the remote Mac is nearly static.

    You can try reducing the bit depth of the screen image  via the slider in the upper-right of the Control window. If that doesn't help, you may just not have a sufficiently fast network connection to correctly handle the data transfer necessary. This is often the case if you're connecting across the Internet. What is your network speed between the administration system and the client?

  • How to get info about updates' repo and versions, including AUR pkgs

    I'm writing a little tool in python that checks for updates and displays notification in gnome about available updates. I'm doing this by syncing database to custom directory with:
    pacman -Syb /custom/dir
    and then getting list of updates with
    pacman -Qub /custom/dir
    I do it this way because I don't want to sync my real pacman database until I'm actually installing or updating packages. I then get current version and repo of the listed packages with:
    yaourt -Q | grep "list\|of\|packages"
    It's quite long and seemingly wasteful procedure, but an even bigger issue is that I don't know how to do the same thing with packages from AUR. Looking at the yaourt's man pages I see no option to sync database into a custom directory.
    Any suggestions?

    Camus wrote:
    The author of that blog post used cower instead of yaourt, but I don't think cower allows me to sync AUR database into custom dir either. Or am I missing something? I don't how yaourt and cower sync AUR database anyway.
    I actually already wrote such notifier for gnome in bash. But I want to display more info and I want to include AUR packages.
    The perfect tool in my situation would be something that allows me to sync official and AUR databases into custom dir and then displays list of updates with:
    -name of package
    -current version
    -updated version
    -repo
    I can currently do all of the above, but just with official repos and not as elegantly as I want.
    Not sure what you mean by 'sync AUR database' (no such thing exists as it does for the binary repos), but cower will let you download to wherever you want.

  • How to get info about available Toshiba updates?

    I have noticed that this has taken over from the online product information button.
    I was wondering how do I know now when there is an update availabe for Toshiba specific software and hardware?

    To be honest if the system runs well und stabile you don't need any updates. On my one and half year old notebook I still use original preinstalled OS (recovery image) without any Toshiba specific updates. All I have installed are Microsoft updates.
    Anyway if you want to have info about available updates pick up info about TOSHIBA TEMPRO tool.
