How to go about getting my MBP replaced?

Okay, so I was on an agonizing wait of 1 month for my MPB to arrive, and I was extremely excited when I got it.
After using it for a week or so, I've become really perturbed by the whole EXTREMELY HOT aspect, and screen whine issues.
My MBP gets super hot when it is on, moreso when plugged into the outlet. It does get uncomfortable to place in my lap after just a short time.
The screen whine is also noticeable when plugged in, but not as much or at all when unplugged.
I believe I also have heard a whine from the left speaker area of the laptop as well.
I updated the firmware and osx to 10.4.6, and it hasn't provided any software fixes for these hardware issues.
My MBP serial begins with W86105xxxx
After just dumping so much $$$$$ into a laptop, I can't see how I can go about leaving things as they are, and I believe I deserve a properly working, annoyance free piece of hardware for my money.
How should I go about getting a replacement?
Would it be sufficient to bring it and my receipt to an Apple store, and allow them to exchange it?
Since I ordered online (via ADC membership), do I have to go through Apple online?
What should I do?

Lunarist,
You appear to have the "bad" whine... You need to get it replaced/repaired.
If you have an AppleStore close to you, just go there, and after they check it out and confirm the defect, you can ask (in a polite fashion) if they can replace it instead of repair it. I say in a polite way because it really depends on the mood of the 'genius'... It shouldn't be that way, but in most cases it is.
I hope they fix you soon so you can enjoy your MBP experience!
Best Regards,
Pablo

  • How to go about getting screen replacement - out of warranty

    Hi,
My T61p is out of warranty, and the LCD had begun displaying white pressure marks and is generally alot dimmer. Whilst i'm comfortable using computers, i'm not comfortable replacing hardware parts myself. How would i go about getting the LCD replaced and possibly upgraded from WXGA to WSXGA+? Can this be done through Lenovo, or would i be better off looking for a third party company to do this for me? If it can be done through Lenovo (which tbh i would prefer), how would i go about arranging this?
Thanks in advance for any replies

As for Lenovo not advertising, not making it easy to get post-warranty / out-of-warranty repairs, this mostly boils down to a cost to return value issue.
For every possible failure of any possible hardware-combination, you'd need at least one (bare minimum, say more likely 4-5) at every repair shop who stocks their own replacement parts, and at least twice as many at any central hub supplying said repair shops. This costs money, and as the hardware gets older, less and less demand is being put forth for work done on said hardware - hence the replacement parts take up valuable shelfspace, and is considered a too high cost vs. value.
This is the same for any type of product, really. If you buy a washing machine, it'll get harder to get parts for it after 5 years than after 2-3 - simply because maybe the only place that still has the parts is the main facility, or maybe the parts aren't even produced yet.
It's also based on a life-expectancy of the equipment - computer equipment, while more than able to function beyond 5 years of use, have a limited value after short time, simply because the development of new, more powerful parts continue. A top-of-the-line computer from 3 years ago will be surpassed by a medium to low-end machine today, for half the cost, or even less.
Hence, you get third-party service centers, eBay, etc. which can help you if your old machine have a problem - it's usually not that hard to get hold of Lenovo-parts, simply because they tend to keep design over more than one model-specter, and they sell a LOT of each model, mainly to business clients, which tend to exchange their hardware on 3-5 year cycle, depending.
I don't really think it's uncommon to see manufacturers not supporting, or providing repair options after the models' shelf-life has been terminated, and mainly all warranty-services are off. This is the same for HP, Dell, Lenovo, Apple etc. Of course they CAN repair it, for a steep fee, but it's most often not worth the cost, and very few people pay it - instead opting for doing it themselves, or having a local PC repair-shop do it.
At least, both Lenovo and to some degree HP have very good manuals available, including a full tear-down of the hardware.

  • HT5457 I got the 1st iPad but it needs iOS on it I don't know how to go about getting it can someone help me

I got the 1st iPad but it needs iOS on it I don't know how to go about getting it can someone help me

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.
iOS 5: Updating your device to iOS 5 or Later
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update.

  • How do I go about getting a replacement for my earbuds at the apple store?

I just got my iPhone 6 and when I went to listen to my music my earbuds was not working in the left ear. I tried with my macbook pro and the problem was still there. I was told once before that my earbuds will be covered by the warranty, now I want to know how to go about getting them replaced?

Bring them into the store.  Bring the phone along too.  That's all you need to do.

  • Getting graphics card replaced under Apple Care, How?

    Hi everyone
I have a Mac Pro, 3Ghz Quad with 5 GB of RAM and a Radeon X1900 XT and Apple Cinema 30".
For the first few months that I had it I could play games fine on it. Then slowly it started malfunctioning on anything that is GPU intensive. At first the monitor would black out in game and then the computer would restart. I had the machine cleaned and that fixed the problem for a while. Then problems started to appear again. The machine would completely hard freeze while in-game.
I came on here and asked about the problem and found out that a lot of people who play WOW on 30" Cinema Displays with Radeon X 1900 XTs were having the same problem. It was due to the fact that the graphics card overheats (bad design on apples part). I have never played WOW but I get the same problem. They suggested using smcFanControl to up the idle speed of my PCIe/HDD fan (the fan still runs within its rated RPMs). This helped for a while when I ran the fan at 3x its normal idle speed. But I really didn't enjoy hafting to go and change my fan speed before playing a game, and games within windows wouldn't work at all.
Now my games ether hard freeze a few minuets in (under OS X or Windows), or I get graphics glitches (polygons get stretched out into infinity off of different objects). This is unacceptable considering the machine is hardly 8 months old (and I have Apple Care on it), also considering I have done nothing wrong or out of the ordinary and the GPU just deteriorated into this state on its own.
So I was wondering how I can go about getting Apple to replace my GPU for free under the Apple Care. I'm located in Guatemala and there is an apple authorized repair place here.

Call AppleCare. Open a problem report/ticket on this.
    * Order parts (Do-it-Yourself)
    * Request a repair online
    * Check your repair status
    * Service FAQ
Before you seek service, check out our Mac Pro support articles to see if an article can help you resolve the issue. For information about getting hardware service, see our Mac Pro service FAQ and Contacting Apple Support pages, or get help from these options:
    * Find a retail Apple Store near you
    * Find a local Apple Authorized Service Provider
    * Order a replacement part or upgrade
    * Check my repair status
Have AppleCare Protection Plan? Download TechTool Deluxe

I would also run Apple Hardware Test in the meantime. There is suppose to be a revised 2nd generation Radeon. I know it has been discussed heavily on the WoW forums.

  • How do I contact apple for a replacement macbook?

I have had a series of problems with my macbook and two repairs later I am still having issues.
My computer would sporadically lose contact with the wifi, unable to load the internet despite having 'full bars', whilst my phone and iPad could both connect. It also randomly crashes at least once per day without any warning, the screen just suddenly goes black, then it loads a grey error page saying that my computer restarted because of a problem.
I initially took it into Stormfront (no apple centre in Durham) and they took it away, wiped it, and gave it back to me, however the error still persisted.
I then took it into the apple store in Newcastle where they replaced the logic board and the memory. It worked ok for a few days but then it crashed again and upon reloading the top half of the screen was glitching.
Despite all of this I really like my macbook, I just want it to work properly. I have to prepare work for both a summer project with my uni and also for an internship and use f my macbook is essential to both of these and the computer continually crashing plus the time spent without my macbook whilst it is being repaired is becoming quite inconvenient and stressful
How would I contact to inquire about getting my macbook replaced? All I want is a computer that is fully functional, that doesn't make my work even more stressful and difficult.

I would either take it to a store or call AppleCare, indicate you have a warranty problem, and request a replacement.

  • I have a MBP with service center for last 21 days. The issue is device doesn't boot up. They are replacing part by part logic board, hard disk, wires and still they need more time. No confidence over there service wing. How to get MBP replacement?

I submitted my MBP 2012 model to service center on
    1. August 12: They reinstalled OS. Took it back on 13th evening
    2. August 14: They did some hardware check and reinstalled OS. Took it back on 20th evening
    3. August 21: Stil with service center, they are investigating
    What service they are providing.
    Very bad experience with apple.

    After august 21:
They changed logic borad and told me that HDD is fine.
After few days I called back they told me HDD is faulty.
I do not know rather they do not know what is the issue.
Thats why I want complete replacement of MBP.
    Then they say about policies.
I want to get MBP replaced, as the warranty has expired on 28th.
I do not know whether they can resolve issue or not
The super advisors from apple team are also co-ordinating still it is taking too long.
So my question is I need a repacement, How to get it?

  • Where can I get help with partitioning my hard drive? I have a "non-genuine" version of windows that I need to replace but I have not a clue how to go about doing that.

I love my mac, but I unfortunately have to also run windows because of engineering software. I bought windows 7 at my campus computre store and one year later my computer is telling me that my software is "non-genuine." I need to fix this asap, but my computer store refuses to do anything because a year has passed. Microsoft wont help because I have a Mac.
My question is, where can I go to find someone who can help me uninstall the "non-genuine" windows 7 and replace it with a functional one?
Im allowed a free download of windows 7 because I'm still a student, but I have no clue how to go about uninstalling and reinstalling windows.
    Thanks a bunch.

    Hello,
This kind of question is best asked in the Windows Forums, however I've had some succession with a similar issue myself.
Non-Genuine Windows means that it can't authenticate your copy of Windows.
It's not a problem, all your need is a genuine product key code. Provided you don't have different version of Windows 7 installed to the one you are buying (for example windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 business) Then you can use the new key code.
Click on the Start Button and type: CMD (into the 'Search programs and files' field in the Start Menu)
The Start Menu will show 'CMD.exe',
Right-click the CMD.exe file and select Run As Administrator.
In the CMD window, type: slmgr.vbs -ipk <type your product key here>
To activate windows after changing the key, type: slmgr.vbs -ato
It should now accept the new key code and you will need to be connected to the Internet to authenticate.
If by chance the windows 7 types are different (One is Home premium say and the other is Business) then you will need to uninstall that copy of Windows 7 and install the new one. If your using BootCamp then you will need to go into BootCamp under system preferences and remove that copy of Windows (delete it)
Then create a new setup with your new Windows 7 disk.
For me I had the same type of windows, changing the product code worked. Saved me the bother of having to reinstall Windows again and it was all genuine.
    Best of luck

  • HT201272 I had Pages and many documents associated with it on my generation 1 ipad. I just got an ipad Air. I downloaded Pages to my new ipad but all my documents are gone. How do I go about getting them back. My old ipad was backed up to my computer.

I am trying to locate my old documents from my generation 1 ipad. I downloaded Pages to my ipad Air but my documents are gone. I did back up my old ipad to my computer but I didn't restore my back up to the new ipad. I wanted to start fresh. How do I go about getting just my Pages documents from that backup and by the way, how do I access that back up?

You will need to restore the backup - just downloading the app from the store won't give you its contents from a preivous device, you will need to restore the whole backup onto your new iPad (which will replace its current contents) to get the app's content.

  • Micro Sim, how to get a microsim replacement from any network.

I am still waiting for my iPhone 4 but I will need to get a micro sim card for when it comes..
Now I have an Orange Pay n Go sim card which still has about £12 credit left on it but its not a micro sim card infact its quite an old type of sim card I believe..
When ive looked on the internet for micro sim cutting conversion the sim chip isnt square like the images show but intead is more of an oblong/rectangle shape..
So I dont think cutting it will work at all.
    Now this is my connundrum..
Ive first emailed orange and it took about 2 days to get back to me and they just told me I need to phone them.
When I phoned orange i stated that I need a new micro sim card for the iphone 4 ive purchased from apple but I would like to keep my current number and account and transfer it to the new micro sim that way I dont like the remaining credit and I can keep my number.
The guy told me on the phone that he cannot do that over the phone... which is strange because the email said it cant be done over email or internet.
So the guy said ive gotta go to an orange shop and buy a new micro sim card..
A new one? When how will it have my number and that? The guy replied and said that they will have to transfer it to the new sim.
So in order to get a new micro sim card orange are telling me that I have to buy one first before they can transfer the details to it..
How much will this cost me? I thought sim cards were free this day n age?
Micro sim cards are smaller and therefor cheaper to make so why are they charging people for them?
When I bought my origional orange sim card it was free but there was a catch to having it free in the shop they told me I need to pay a minimum of £5 credit onto it first.
Thats fair enough cause at least that credit belong to me and I can use it.
Ive also read on the orange website that micro sim cards now come with free micro sim adapters for older phones...is this true? I hope its true!
If your experiencing this with your orange account or o2, t-mobile, 3,vodafone and others then please tell me about it.
I am eager to see what you all think, and how you managed to get a micro sim card while retaining your number and account.

Apple serves Micro-SIMS in all their i4 phones. You don't need to buy a separate one. They would have a Micro-SIM exclusively for Orange UK and you would just have to add/replace the IMEI and SIM codes to your account.
If you have not received a Micro-SIM, visit Apple UK's store or Orange's store and state that a Micro-SIM did not come with my product when it arrived and they should change it free of charge as it was supposed to come with the i4.

  • How should I go about getting my iPhone headphone jack repaired?

So recently my headphone jack has been playing up, where it ends up with loads of static and the vocals are oddly quiet and echoey, but it seems to correct itself if I jiggle the jack around a little, which obviously must be damaging, so I've stopped doing it. I bought the phone from Carphone Warehouse in September and was wondering how I can go about getting this fixed? I didn't take out any apple care or anything, but surely I'm still covered by some sort of warranty? If not, how much will Apple charge for this to be repaired/replaced?

The warranty is 1 year. If it's less than a year old, and there are no visible signs of damage, then it should be covered under warranty. If it is more than a year old, then you should be able to get an out of warranty replacement from Apple ($149 in the U.S. You'll have to check on the price in the UK).

  • How can I get Apple to replace my rev a with isight imac?

I'm on my second major repair of my Imac rev a in less than a year. So many horror stories here. How hard is it to get Apple to replace my computer with one that one break down all the time? Any advice would be helpful.
    Roxie

I am currently trying my hardest to get a replacement machine. I have had several repairs on my iMac, (6 trips to the apple store!!) but they have told me that my repairs were not major enough to warrant a new machine. I am sending letters and documentation to as many people in customer relations as possible.
Right now my computer is getting repaired. Again.
    Good luck.
