How to have Safari remember PDF display preference (two pages continuous)?

I am using the built-in PDF viewer in safari and every single time I am a opening a link or document I have to right-click and choose "two pages continuous" (or at least zoom out) to obtain suitable display preferences.
Is there a way to have Safari remember the last-used or preferred display settings for PDF? All recent versions of Safari (including Yosemite) have this problem.
Thank you so much,
Christophe

Thank you most kindly Aandi,
Exactly!! It boggles my mind sometimes ... I'm reading manuals all day long, running a dozen complicated applications (making movies, music for movies, and now 'books'), and my brain did not register the most obvious ... a dozen times I scanned that menu item. Tick, tock.
You help is most appreciated...
Ben

When I go to a website that requires user-name & password I enter them and then Firefox pops up "do you want firefox to remember your user-name & password for this site".
I made the mistake of clicking "yes" and now when I go there the site comes us with both. I have several user names & passwords for some sites and now I don't want firefox to remember them. I've been researching how to have Safari always open links in the same window, but it appears this can't be done?  I've seen this third party app, but am afraid of installing something that doesn't come from the app store because it might harm my macbook.  Does anyone have any thoughts about how to have links always open in the same window? Or how to find out if I can trust this app:

No. It's a safety feature. Select the appropriate response and the next time you visit, you won't be prompted.

Make sure the firewall is turned off in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall
Disable anti virus sofware if installed.
If nothng above applies, try troubleshooting Safari extensions and third party plugins.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

  • Preview doesn't change the view of PDF files to two pages when selected

    http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l142/byjimini/Screenshot2009-09-02at175852.jpg
I download chords in PDF format, and on Tiger before they would load up in two pages side-by-side, like a book, so I wouldn't have to scroll down - because I'm plucking the strings and fingering chords with both hands.
Since installing Snow Leopard I can't get it to do the same. In the screenshot, I've zoomed out and it still won't put them side-by-side. It's no sue to me having to scroll down because I don't have a spare hand when I'm playing, and if I zoom out too much then I can't see the chords or lyrics!

Two-page view doesn't start until pages 2-3. The way they've set it up, there is always an even-numbered page on the left and an odd-numbered page on the right -- which is the norm for printed books.
In Apple's eyes, I guess this is a feature, not a bug. But I find this very annoying, especially because it means that it's impossible to display the two pages of a 2-page PDF file side by side using Preview. At the very least, this behavior should be controllable from preferences (e.g. a check-box for "always display even-numbered pages on left in 2-page view" that can be unchecked).
The various Adobe PDF-reading programs do not have this "feature", so I guess you need to use something like that to solve the problem.

  • How do I open a pdf on a web page in Safari without Acrobat Reader?

At the moment I have removed Acrobat Reader 10.3.1 because it conflicts with Safari. Preview is a perfectly fine pdf reader (and with lots of very nice features) but I don't see how I can make Preview open a pdf from a web page until it has been downloaded to file. And I have found at least one site that will not download to file before opening.

Right-click in the PDF when it's displayed in Safari and select Open with Preview from the popup menu. Depending on how the PDF is embedded in the web page, this may not be possible.

  • How to make Safari remember Zoom Lever

I would like to load automaticly with a certain zoom level. When the page loads I have to constantly hit the command key then the + key so the page is large enough to read. I don't want to increase the font size but just to save this zoom level so next time I load this same page it is at the correct zoom level.
How to do it without using the extantions or changing CSS? Or how to write to Apple about it?
    Thank you!

You can provide feedback to Apple here.
Unfortunately, there's no way to have Safari permanently remember the zoom level but check out the options in System Preferences > Accessibility.
    Select Zoom on the left.
Alternatively, the Firefox browser offers other ways of handling text sizes on webpages.

  • How can I make some pages in a PDF display in single-page view and others in two-page (facing) view?

Exactly as it says on the tin. I am looking to save a PDF magazine/book layout in such a way so that when opened, only the front and back covers open to the viewer in single-page mode, and the rest of the pages in two-page facing mode, without re-printing the in-between pages in booklet format  and re-inserting them into a new PDF (with the front and back covers left separate and untouched, and included as single portrait-orientation pages). This is so that individual pages can still be printed (on a physical printer, not a "virtual" one like a PDF driver), as-is without having the page next to it included, or the printouts always requiring landscape orientation (resulting with two "pages" from the PDF showing up on one sheet of paper).
So when the PDF is opened, I want just the front and back cover to be auto-viewed by themselves, and the content (the "meat" of the document) viewed side-by-side, as though one were actually reading a "book" -- but without actually re-doing the content pages to be "fused" side-by-side. Thus creating the "illusion" that they are, in fact, in booklet form. Is this possible, to have different page-display settings for different pages/page ranges in a single PDF? If so, how is this done? If not, what would be my best course of action otherwise to achieve this "virtual" book layout, while still retaining the "physical" structure of the document and allowing individual pages to be printed by themselves rather than "fused" together?
Using Acrobat X Pro on Windows 7 Pro SP1.

    Dave Merchant wrote:
The best you can do practicably is the 'two up with cover page' view mode. The first page will appear singly but not centered, and to get the last page to behave it would have to be a folio sheet.
It's theoretically possible to use JavaScript to reset the view mode as each page is changed, but it makes for a nightmare of usability (what if someone on a smaller display wants to use 'fit to width'? Not an option if JS keeps overruling it). Anything involving JS won't work on non-Adobe software or mobile devices.
Not a programmer by any means, so I won't be using JavaScript because I wouldn't know where to begin. I was thinking more in terms of an option I could adjust in the menus or dialogues.

  • HT5364 Safari is not displaying the web page content & Crashes on clicking Security Tab in Preferences!

    I have Mac 10.8.4 with Safari 6.0.5.
Safari is not displaying the web content but images on the web page are being displayed.
Although the webpage is loaded, but nothing is shown else than Images. When I hover the mouse on the blank webpage shown, the cursor changes on the links on the web page.
I tried resetting the preferences from the menu as well as deleting the Preferences of Safari from ~/Library/Preferences/ but nothing helped.
When I open Preferences of Safari & click on Security tab, It Crashes!!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • How do you open a PDF to a specific page number in Safari 8.0?

I'm using the command #page=33 to try to force Safari to open a PDF to a specific page number. While this works fine on just about every website browser, it doesn't seem to work in Safari. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!

The problem is most likely with the Safari PDF plugin, which doesn't process the open parameters correctly. To be fair, though, this is not a part of the PDF ISO specification but something that Adobe implemented on their own in their PDF plugins, so other applications are not obliged to follow it.
If you switch to using the Adobe plugin then it should work, even in Safari.

  • How to get safari to open to the last page I was on and screens to enlarge automatically?

Hello, I just upgraded to the latest iMac version from my 2010 model, and whenever I close and open up safari it opens to top siotes instead of the last page I was on, and every time I open it I have to enlarge it myself by clicking the arrows in the top right. Same happens with everything else, like the app store. How do I change this so whenever I go to safari it opens to the last page I was on and has safari, app store, etc. have large screens right away? I set up my old iMac 3 years ago, and I guess I must've done something to have it do this, but I forgetn what I did. Thank you in advance

    Hello there, Clumn.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some general tips for Mavericks that may address your issue:

    Particularly of note:
Close windows when quitting an application
If you quit apps with windows still open on your screen, selecting this checkbox prevents the windows from reopening automatically the next time you start their app.
This feature when not selected will allow the application to reopen windows automatically when you open the app.

  • How do I open a PDF to a specific page via the command line?

Several questions about opening PDFs from the Mac OS X command line:
    1) How do I use the "open" command to open a PDF to a specific page? (I know I can open a document via: open doc_name.pdf)
    2) How do I use the "open" command to pass multiple arguments (page no, zoom scale, view mode, etc...) to open a PDF file in a specific manner?
    3) Does Preview handle the same parameters as Acrobat Reader? If not, what are the differences in options?
I've spent hours searching for this answer and have come up dry. I've downloaded Adobe's "PDF Open Parameters" document -- it lists all of the parameters I need, however I can't get any of them to work from the command line.
My goal: Open a PDF from the command line to a specific page. At first glance, I thought this would be simple to do and find -- however, after a lot of searching I haven't found an example on how to do it.
Anyone have any experience doing this, and care to share?
    Much appreciated! ---> Kelsey

I don't know of any way to do what you want using the 'open' command. It can probably be done with Applescript, which you could call from a shell script. The Preview application doesn't seem to be scriptable. I don't use Acrobat, so I can't tell you anything about that. Looking through the dictionaries of the apps I do have, it seems that Skim (another PDF viewer) has an AS 'page' class. Below are a couple of links that may get you started. Look for more specific guidance in Applescript forums.
