How to have Windows OS available on a iMac

I am about ready to junk my wife's PC and buy her an iMac. But she has to have a Windows OS screen to communicate with certain clients. I understand there is some way to have that available on the iMac. I vaguely recall someone mentioning VMWare. What would people out there recommend I look into.

The full Windows 7 install disk or downloaded file (.ISO). You will need your MS License key handy.
The principal competitors for Virtualization are Oracle's free VirtualBox, VMware's Fusion 6 (60.00 USD), and Parallels Desktop 9 (80.00 USD). VirtualBox is very good for free. It is what I use. If you decide on VirtualBox, you will need to download two files. The OS X Platform package file (currently 4.2.18), and the same version Extension Pack. To install the latter, launch VirtualBox, then double click the Extension file. Do this before you load MS Windows.

  • How to Install Windows 7 or 8 to Imac if you have never owned these OS's before?

    Hi Guys / Girls.
I hope someone can help me.
I recently bought a new Imac (no optical drive). My OS is Mountain Lion.
I have seen many topics / videos on how to install Windows 7 or Windows 8 on my Imac, however I have a problem!
    I don't own a copy of Windows 7 or Windows 8.
Where can I buy and download it legally?
I tried the Microsoft website, but I can't find windows 7?
The download for Windows 8 is only an upgrade if you already have Windows 7.
Is there a way that I can buy and download the full version of Windows 8 without Windows 7?
Or can I download Windows 7 from somewhere?
The other option I have is I have an old Windows XP installation disc.
Can I some how bump this up to Windows 8 and then use bootcamp to install to my Mac?
I'm not sure which will be the best way to install the new Windows 8 to my Imac.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Well, a lot of questions here.
The reason you cannot download Windows 7 from Microsoft is that they discontinued it as a download in December 2012.
There are places you can download Windows 7 but probably not 100% legal - so I won't say anything more about these.  However, you can still buy genuine versions via Amazon.
As you say, a full (non-upgrade) version of Windows 8 (actually 8.1 now) is not available from Microsoft as a download.  Even if it was, it would be $200+
I suspect that your most economical option is to invest in a cheap USB CD/DVD drive to connect to your iMac and install XP under Boot Camp to see if you like the way it works.  You could then decide if you want to upgrade.
You can upgrade to Windows 8.1 (about $120 for upgrade) from XP either by download or buying the upgrade discs - cost will be similar and if you already have the drive, then it will be straightforward installation.  Again, copies available via Amazon.

  • I need to find out how to have Speakable Items available each time I boot up.

I use Mavericks Speakable Items every day to open and close applications without using my mouse if function keys.
The only way I get it to start is to calibrate it AFTER boot up.
I need to find out how to have it available each time I boot up my Mac Mini with OS 10.9.4,

In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")

  • How to have Windows Print prompt pop up when printing SBO documents

    Version 8.8 SP00 PL14
I have SBO Print Preferences for Sales Order and AR Invoice set to NOT Print on Add.
I have PLD layouts with defined printers assigned to users.
I want the user to be able to change the defined printer when printing a document.
I don't want the user to have to select a different PLD layout.
When the user prints a document SBO is sending the document straight to the defined printer without popping the Windows Print screen that would allow the defaulting printer to be changed.
Is there any way to make the Windows Print screen pop up?

    Hi Tony,
I noticed too that when you now click on 'Print', the windows print window no longer comes up.
Did you set the PLD template default by user and indicate in Print Layout Manager the correct printer for that layout? (i.e. looks like you need a layout for each printer if the printer is different by user unless the printer to be used is the user's default printer.)

  • How to have Windows computers show up in shared...

I am having the worst trouble with this. My parents' Windows computer showed up under "Shared" on the sidebar at first on Leopard, but then all of a sudden it disappeared and I haven't been able to get it back there. What is the secret?

    Hi Matt,
I'm having the same problems, really irritating! I've no answer I'm afraid, though a temporary solution is:
In the finder menu, select Go -> Connect to Server (or hit apple+k)
In the server address box, type smb://Target_Computer Name
Obviously, replace TargetComputerName with the network name of the computer you want to connect to. So it could be smb://dev or smb://johnscomputer etc...
    Hope this helps a little.

  • How to enable Windows 7 ISO file for iMac Computer

    ** extremely urgent
    Dear Sir or Madam:
Due to my misunderstanding,an Apple Customer has purchased Windows 7 ISO file for his iMac Computer.
But, the fact is that Apple only allows this on computers that support booting from an USB drive (aka they don't have optical drive).
Though, whether i can adopt an non-recommendation folk prescription, i.e."http://www.codez4mac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=212&t=61921"?
Are there any risk there ?
    Please correct me ASAP.
    Thank you !

Meanwhile, are there any risks there?
I doubt any "risk", only very likely thing is that OSX updates will likely rewrite the supported Macs file & if you had need to install Win7 again from ISO, then you'd need to edit that file again.
I think there was mention of this by Mike Breeden today, but the site is not available for the first time in years right now...

  • How to install Windows 8.1 on an iMac without using a disk drive?

I have very recently bought a brand new iMac (27-inch, Late 2013) and am wondering if there is a way of installing Windows 8.1 full version using Boot Camp without a disk drive?
I need windows on my iMac in order to run a windows only compatible program.
Please help, I need assistance ASAP. Thankyou.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you only need Windows to run one program (and if this problem does not require the best GPU performance), I recommend you to install Windows in a virtual machine instead of using Boot Camp. With this, you will be able to run Windows without restarting your Mac and there will be no risks during the installation.
To make a virtual machine, you can use an application like Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox. Then, you only need to get a ISO file of Windows 8.1 with a product key, so you can install it in a virtual machine.
If you still want to install Windows with Boot Camp, you can install Windows from a USB drive (it is the only way in your iMac apart from using an external disc drive). To create the USB drive with Windows, you also need a ISO file of Windows 8.1. You have all the steps in this site > http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf

  • I have windows 7 installed in imac. It sometimes starts up and sometimes it hangs on the windows logo.

I have installed my windows using bootcamp. I don't now why is happening. I have scanned for viruses. Updated windows. Windows behaves like it is very moody, it has own wish whether it wants to startup or not.

You did not mention  how you have Windows installed on your computer, however lets get tot he point. There are 2 major methods, using Boot Camp or virtualizaiton software such as Parallels or Fusion. Either way, you should post in those forums. If you use Boot Camp then post in the Boot Camp forum, if you use Virtualization app then navigate to their forums and post your question there.
    Good luck.

  • How can the Windows Media Player 12 be made to play WVC210 .avi files?

I just built a new computer and it won't play the motion captured videos of the WVC210. It has Windows 7 Home Premium as the operating system. My machines running XP play the WVC210 files GREAT. Is there a codec I can add to the WMP12 so that it will play the .avi files. I have 3 cameras around the property, 2 WVC210 and 1 WVC200. 1 camera has the audio turned off so switching to MP4 (no audio) made that work OK. But the camera in the office I need to have audio and would rather stick to WMP over something like VLC. VLC plays the files fine but I much prefer WMP. I'm hopeing to find out how to have Windows Media Player 12 play the .AVI files from the WVC210 cameras. Any Help??

There appears to be issues with codecs on WMP 12 and Windows 7
AND\OR your WMP is missing the necessary codecs.
Google the Net and you should find different things to try

  • Install windows 7 in a new iMac 27 core i5

Hello, someone knows how to Install windows 7 in a new iMac 27 core i5 ?

As a new iMac hasn't got the SuperDrive, you have to buy the Apple USB SuperDrive or another external optical drive to install Windows on your computer. If you need help, print this PDF > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf
Also, if you have a Windows .iso file, you can use it and burn it into a USB drive. To do this, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow its steps

Winmail.data are not usable files. They just preserve RTF within the message.

  • How to? switch between the following mission control preference "group windows by application" on the fly? OR have both readily available

Is there any way to switch between the following mission control preference "group windows by application" on the fly?  I would like to turn this feature on and off quickly. OR have both readily available?
If osx 10.9 does not support this, does any one know if automater can be used to creat a short cut to turn this preferance on and off?
Current solution (not much of a solution)
I currently added the preferance control icon for mission control on my dock.

Do you mean the general System Preferences icon? ...If so, it's possible to put the icon specifically for the Mission Control pane in the Dock:
I'm on Mountain Lion and that Preference Pane is in: Macintosh HD > System (not Users) > Library > PreferencePanes > Expose.prefPane
...Drag that Expose.prefPane to the right-hand side of the Dock, say, next to the Trash. Then you can simply click on the resulting Expose Prefs icon in the Dock to open its Prefs panel.

  • I have Windows 7, but have only 32-bit ?...need 64-bit. How do I install 64-bit version? Am not computer savvy?

I have Windows 7 on my computer. I keep getting messages when I want to do various things on my computer which say that I only have a 32-bit version of ???? and I need to update to a 64-bit version of ??? I am not computer savvy and do not understand 32-bit version of what they are talking about; nor, do I know how to update to the 64-bit version. Are they referring to my web browser, or what? And, how do I update to the 64-bit version. Do I have to buy different software, or what? Someone, please help me with this. It happened again today when I wanted to update my Java plug-in. Said I was using 32-bit, so would have to install both 32 and 64-bit version. I am confused.

Firefox is currently only as a 32 bit application available.<br />
A 64 bit Firefox version requires all plugins to be 64 bit as well and not many plugins have a 64 bit version.
You shouldn't have any problem with running that 32 bit Firefox version on a 64 bit Windows platform.
