How to insert a black space at the beginning of a timeline

Hi guys,
Sorry for the stupid question....I only bought FCPX yesterday.
I have figured out how to drop an audio file into the timeline and add some title effects to the beginning. But now i want to add a black space at the beginning.
Is there an easy way to do this that I have simply missed - I have spent several hours trying to find a way to do it...

I didn't know that there could only be one "correct" answer - so sorry to Tom if I have done this incorrectly. I was too excited that both answers worked for me that I didn't really concentrate hard enough on whose idea it was - I thought I could mark them both as correct.

Add a new page
In the Book pane (shown above), select the chapter or section you want to add pages to.

I am thinking along the same line.
It's interesting that some of the unaffected graphics in the document come up as embedded, but some are just placed there with no link information.
I guess it's just a matter of how the original graphic was treated or saved.

Using IOS 7.1.2 on Safari when I leave the focus on a input on my webpage and rotate my device from Horizontal to vertical, I see a black space on the right and the page is not displayed properly. Any solutions to this problem?

DATA TRANSFER - How to get a SINGLE SPACE in the downloaded file from UNIX?

Hi Experts,
Am sending data from SAP to UNIX/ Application server and text file on desk top as well.
So, I am keeping a single character just SPACE at the END of each record.
Then, When I see the downloaded text file, I found a SINGLE SPACE at the end of each record, fine.
Then, by using CG3Y t code, I downloaded the UNIX file to my desk top.
But, When I see this UNIX downloaded file from UNIX, I did NOT find any SPACE at the end of each record!!!
Am doing every thing same in both cases.
So,
1 - Why its happening in case of UNIX file?
2 - How to get a SINGLE SPACE at the END in the downloaded file from UNIX?

perform SET_TRAIL_BLANKS(saplgrap) using 'X'.
perform SET_FIXLEN(saplgrap) using '0' '060'. "put length of your line from-to
... download ...
It will put space at the end of your line, according to the length.

Instead of using omatrix.Addrow(1,-1) use like
omatrix.AddRow( RowCount , Position)
RowCount
The number of rows to add (default is 1)
Position
The position of the new rows (0-based; default is -1, meaning append row to the end)
After adding rows in matrix For, sno.

How do I delete the blank space at the beginning or end of a project?

I constantly end up with blank space at the beginning or end of a project - how do I remove it? I get this ALL the time and I jsut can't get rid of it. Obviously I want my project to start at 0.00 not at 1.xx.

That's not a project. You're inside an multicam angle editor. You need to edit the multicam clip into a project. That's where you edit it.

Trying to use GREP to add 2 spaces to the beginning of a line, under a particular circumstance.

I am trying to add 2 blank spaces to the beginning of any line that has a punctuation at the end of that line, followed by a forced line break.
I can get the GREP to find the punctuation at the end of a line with a forced line break:
[[:punct:]](?=\r)
But, is there a way to tell it to now add 2 spaces to the beginning of that line?
Any guidence is greatly appreciated.

If applying a paragraph style works (nice thought!), then finding [[:punct:]]\n and applying the style works fine, no need for the grouping and the lookbehind. But if it's really the case that two spaces need to be inserted, then that's possible only if the text is not formatted at all. Then
find ^.+[[:punct:]]\n
change to \x20\x20$0
will do the trick (\x20 is the space character). If the text does have any formatting, a script is needed.

Indesign adds an anoying space at the beginning of a line

Text supplied to me very very often has the combination:
<tab><bullet><tab>rest of text....
If I select <tab><bullet><tab> and hit delete, Indesign replaces it with a space.
It's very annoying because I then have to delete the space. Who needs a space at the beginning of a line like that!?
Preferences > Autocorrect > [ ] Enable Autocorrect is OFF, so there's no substitution going on (I think).
Can someone offer any insight as to what I need to adjust in my prefs to stop this behaviour.
I'm using Mac OS 10.9 and Indesign 2014

Theway I choose to to fix this kind of problem is to Use Find and Replace. Under Find, insert the text or code that you want deleted. Under Replace, insert NOTHING, then select Change All. If you don'twant to replace all instances use the Find Next to keep the coding or use the Change/Find that will delete the code and find the next instance. I use this method all the time to get rid of the double-spaces that are frequently found in word processing files. You can probably do the same thing in your word processing program.
It may sound complicated but it's really quite easy.

Thanks. I've tried this and apparently the template I'm using is one of those where it doesn't work. I've tried dragging it as well as cutting a pasting but it always travels back to the end of the book. Maybe I can try changing the template temporarily, move the preface page, and then convert back to the original template. I'll experiment a little.

How do I remove residual frames at the beginning and end of a video?

I'm making a short clip with black slugs at the beginning and end. But there are two or three residual frames from the incoming clip after the black clip that stay at the beginning and end of the video and I can't remove them. I've tried trimming the beginning and end of the video several different ways, and the frames won't disappear. They stay in the video when I make a DVD. The very first and very last frame have sprocket holes in them on the edge of the frame. I'm baffled. Is this an artifact of using the trial version?

chances are they are from a fade. have you zoomed in really really close and checked if there is a small fade in or fade out? happens to me all the time, and with the fade out, you can't do anything to fix it (that I've found) except replacing the clip from your Browser. If i use the selectOneListbox from HTML i only can set the value that should be printed, but i can't set a return value if the row is selected, is that right?

How do i get rid of black space at the end of a video presentation?

After creating a project in iMovie and burning it onto a DVD, I realized that when the movie was finished, it did not return to the Menu right away and instead it played 20 or so seconds of blackness that I can't seem to get rid of. Has anyone else had this problem? And how do i fix it? I have also checked if my any audio or narration tracks lengths were that long, and none were.

In the course of your editing you may inadvertently have left a tiny scrap of audio or video way out at the end of your time line, with a large gap between it and the last clip in your movie. Your movie will play out until it reaches that scrap, leaving a large black gap at the end of the movie. Sometimes these scraps are so tiny that they are difficult to see and can be overlooked in normal view. Expand your time line view to its fullest extent and check to see if you can find such a scrap, left over from editing, and then delete it. It's worth a look, though you may not find anything. That's all I can think of, unless for some reason you have a 20 second long black clip at the end of your movie that you forgot to delete. (Don't laugh--it happened to me once.)

It has been useful in past versions of Firefox to be able to add (a) space(s) between icons on the toolbar in order to create groups of icons and/or separate icons by class or function. In Firefox 29.0, I discovered how to "grab" (click and drag) a space from open areas on the toolbar and move it to another part of the toolbar. But how can I add spaces to the toolbar? In past versions, there used to be a space icon in the customize menu set that could be dragged to the toolbar for that purpose.

While returning the squared-off look to your tabs, instead of the newer, rounded version - it also gives returns the option to add spaces; variable size spaces, and separators to your tool-bars.
