How to install 7.5.3 (or other 7.x) on a Mac SE?

Hi all
I rescued this Mac SE from being trashed... it's working fine and has System 7.1 on it. I even managed to get a LocalTalk to Ethernet bridge, but AppleTalk doesn't seem to work properly. It says it can't be loaded when I try to activate it, and when I try to start FileSharing Monitor, it's telling me something about AppleShare server software being installed. No idea, what this is and how I can get rid of it (my first Mac was a PM 7200 with 7.5.3).
I'd like to install a new system, 7.5.3 if this is possible, or some older 7.x. I found the 7.5.3 software, but it only comes in packages of 1.4MB, and the SE only takes 800K floppies... anything I could do there? Or shall I go for 7.0.1 instead? I found 800K images for this system.
Now, no matter which system I'm finally going to install, how do I go about it? My old 7200 already had a CD drive, and my computer before that was a C64... so I don't know how this is supposed to work. The HD seems to be partitioned, which I don't like too much. Can I boot from a floppy and format the HD? Or should I leave it as it is?
Could someone talk me through it, please? I still have the 7200, I could use it for making the floppies, and I also have an USB floppy drive (which maybe won't write to 800K disks, I didn't try yet).
Yet another question: I also got hold of a Powerbook 170 which is currently running system 7.0.1. I managed to connect it to my network, and it can even see my G5 (running 10.4.3), but when I try to connect, it tells me that the AFP protocols are not compatible - sniff! Anything I could do to get this to work? A colleague of mine suggested trying FTP... but MacTCP came only later, and isn't this required for using Fetch or some other FTP software?
Thanks for any ideas, Tina

Hi Tina
Lot of questions
1)You should first check the built-in memory before upgrading OS.My SE has got 2,5 MB and works with 7.0 including LocalTalk for Filesharing.
2) Did you get a Hardware or Software LocalTalk to Ethernet-Software LocalTalk Ethernet bridge works only up to 7.6.1-can't connect to Internet at all! The Hardware LocalTalk to Ethernet I've got(Farallon EtherPrint) isn't able to connect over TCP/IP.
3) IF you want to install 7.5.3(needs 8 MB RAM I believe) you can download the complete System in one Folder, transport this folder unexpanded to your SE HD via LocalTalk
connection/FileSharing-and expand there with Stuffit 4.0.1,
this Stuffit-Version can be installed via PC/MacDisk.Exe and 1,44 MB Drive only. You can try to copy Stuffit via LocalTalk to SE from 7200(accepts PC Disks)
IF you can download on PC/you can burn a CD with NERO,slow Speed,ISO 9660 und transport this CD to your 7200.IF you can burn this CD likewise(unexpanded, without forks) you can download on a MAC
4) FileSharing with 10.4 Macs isn't possible(therefore not the correct AFP-protocol)-but you can connect(using EThernet to AppleTalk-Hardware. You may look at:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301183
http://homepage.mac.com/car1son/os9xnet_nfilesharing.html
You may search for Ed Hurtley in older software; he has connected with likewise systems.

How do I share my playlists with other accounts/users on my Mac?

    Hello,
I have a similar question, which I posted 8perhaps inappropriately) in the Home Sharing discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17405588#17405588
The problem I have is that it simply doesn't work and the question I have is how you do not move the the iTunes Library file or the iTunes Library.xml file when they are actually in the folder you are told by the article to move in the first place.

  • How to install a gtx285 in windows xp with Bootcamp on a Mac

I have installed a gtx285 video card on my Mac Pro and all is fine, but I want to also run my windows xp installation on my Mac Pro (used Bootcamp) and I am not sure how to go about it.
The card is already in the machine but if I boot up in windows it will expect to see the old video card and may hang.
Can anyone please advise on how to get the drivers and card running in windows on my Mac?
    Thanks.

What was your old video card first off. If it was also Nvidia, it should be simple.
The thorough method is to uninstall, reboot safe mode, run Driver Sweeper and delete the old graphics folder, then reboot again normally and install the latest drivers from eVGA or Nvidia for XP.
Personally.... I'd want to run 64-bit version, I think video drivers for Windows 7 are definitely good.

  • How to install IPSec Client Certificate for Apple products (iPad,iPhoe and Mac)

We need  Ipsec vpn client authentication with certificate (instead of pre-shared key). We tested the same with Windows client and its works fine. However when we used the same certificates with Apple products (iPad, iPhoe and Mac) it doesnt work.
We have two types of certificates installed on the client from the CA server.
One is the root certificate with the extenstion .cer
and the other one is client certificate with the extension of .pfx (personal informaiton exchange)
We can not find a proper document to install certificates and client configuration for iPad,iPhoe and Mac. We need to know what type of certificates needed, what are the certificate formats and how to install etc.
Appreciate if someone has implemented this and share any documents.

  • HT3770 I have recently bought a external hard drive and I was told to down load a Fat 32 in order to work with my MAC/ Is this right and how do I find the download and how to install to make my new external drive compatible with my MAC?

What is a Fat 32 which I am suppose to download inorder to work on a MAC for external drive to be compatable ?

Bad advice. You do not need or want FAT.
You want GUID and Mac HFS Standard Journaling.
You don't download when you write files, or when you format or erase a drive.

  • How to install JDBC?

I downloaded the "mysql-connector-java-3.1.10",but I am not very sure how to install it, the documentation and other instructions on the web are not very clear to me.
It says set the class path or something, but I am not very sure what is classpath they talk about. Are there any very simple way to install JDBC?
    thanks

JDBC is part of standard Java; it is contained in the java.sql and javax.sql packages that come with the J2SE JDK/JRE.
To use JDBC with an actual database, you have to have a driver for that database, and make it accessible to Java. mysql-connector-java-3.1.10 is a JDBC driver for the MySQL database and won't work with other databases. The database software has to be set up seperately.
Using a JDBC driver is just like using an other external jar; you place it where it needs to go and (optionally) set the class path. How you do that depends in part on what you're doing (whether you're trying to use an IDE such as Eclipse or a J2EE server such as Jboss or write a stand-alone Swing application) and to some extent what OS you're using.

  • How to install Virtual Keyboard with Different language ?

    HI,
How to install Virtual Keyboard with Different language (Arabic) in MacBook Pro ( Mac OS X v10.5.8 Leopard).
    Thanks,

How to install Virtual Keyboard with Different language (Arabic) in MacBook Pro ( Mac OS X v10.5.8 Leopard).
What are you talking about exactly?
OS X comes with a virtual keyboard already. It is called Keyboard Viewer. You activate it by going to system prefs/international/input menu and checking its box (plus the box for Show Input Menu in Finder). At the same time you can check the boxes for the Arabic keyboard layouts.
You can then select the Arabic keyboard layouts and the Keyboard Viewer from the "flag" menu at the top-right of the Finder.
Let us know if you have further questions. If you are talking about some specific non-Apple app, could you provide the url?

  • How to install ovi suite to a drive other than C:?...

how to install ovi suite to a drive other than c:??? my c: drive is almost full with other partitions perfectly free to install it, how do i do that? can i use previous versions of ovi suite to use with my e63? at this point, i'm unable to use ovi suite at all, because there's no room to install it on my c: drive.
allllllllso there's one more thing, when i originally had tried installing ovi suite on my computer i had more than 1gb free. after installing it i on'ly had 500mb free. i had only intended for it to use a very small amount of space, and since i also use my c: drive for virtual memory i quickly uninstalled it, looking for an option i'd maybe skipped over while installing it the first time. no luck. anyways, when i looked in the add/remove programs control panel the installed size of ovi suite was only 40-50mb. even after uninstalling ovi suite the extra memory space that seemed to all of a sudden taken up by the installation stayed used.
when looking at the file sizes of everything on my hard drive, (including system files and paging file) there is still a descreprency between the amount of memory used and the size of all files total on the drive. at this point im quite disgusted and disapointed in ovi suite as i'm mostly unable to use it to connect my phone to my computer and i'm also having problems with the CA101 cable as well. i guess i'll have to go check for another cable.
nokia!!! wake up and fix yo **bleep**!!!!
anyone have any solutions for the main problem? (installing to a drive other than c? is there support for this option in any of the new beta versions? can that be included in the newest betas? i'm suuuuuure i'm not the only one begging for this option!!!

Hi ostrenga4, sorry to hear about your experiences.
When installing Nokia Ovi Suite to PC, Windows makes "system restoration points", which are available to restore operating system to previous condition, if something goes wrong, for example in driver installation.
You can change install location of Nokia Ovi Suite with following:
    - Download Nokia Ovi Suite install package from Nokia Ovi Suite pages
    - Start Windows Command prompt
    - From Command prompt, navigate to folder containing Nokia Ovi Suite install package, which you downloaded
    - Start Nokia Ovi Suite install package with command line "Nokia_Ovi_Suite_webinstaller.exe /TARGET="D:\TestDir\Test"
    - This results, that Nokia Ovi Suite installer creates folder D:\TestDir\Test (if that doesn't exist) and installs Nokia Ovi Suite there.
    - Unfortunately, Windows Installer still keeps installer cache files and system restoration points in C: drive (or whatever your system drive is)
As you can see, this is possible, but it is very much recommend to have enough space for installing software into system drive.
    Cheers, Samuli

  • How to install Creative Cloud on any drive other than my System drive...

You are now chatting with 'Bhagawan'
Bhagawan: Hello. Welcome to Adobe Technical Support.
    Bhagawan: Hi Steve
Steve: It appears CC installs on my system drive without asking me. The way I manage my system - this is not acceptable. So, how do I install on the drive I install all my other apps?
Bhagawan: I understand that you want to install Creative Cloud desktop app. Am I correct?
Steve: On a particular drive - not my system drive.
    Steve: CC, Photoshop, etc.
Bhagawan: I will be glad to check and help you with this issue.
Bhagawan: Steve, creative cloud desktop app can be install only on C drive, but other apps you select for other drive.
Steve: My C: drive is dedicated to my OS only.
Steve: It is a special drive that will not work for very long if software companies put their programs on it till it fills up and then everything stops.
Steve: Didn't Adobe think of this?
Steve: I have one computer that only has a few MBs left of C:. What do I do on that computer?
    Steve: "left on C:"
    Bhagawan: Give me a minute.
    Bhagawan: Thank you.
Bhagawan: Steve, I'm really sorry, creative cloud desktop app will be installed on C Drive, since the operating system is installed, but other Creative Cloud apps can be installed other Drive and depends on file size.

I had the same problem and finally solved it.
It is "funny" that CC doesn't ask you where to install apps. Or better to say, it asks you but doesn't care. In Creative Cloud desktop app/Preferences there is option to choose where you want apps to be installed, but they are still installed in C:/Program Files/....
How to install apps on secondary drive in just 3 steps:
    1. Go to page Adobe CC 2014 Direct Download Links – Creative Cloud 2014 Release | ProDesignTools and download all apps that you will need.
    2. Once downloaded, install it. During installation you will be asked where you want app to be installed (just like in any other "normal" installation)
    3. Be happy
    Hope I helped
    Marko
