    padman215, welcome to the forum,
you need to boot from the Rescue and Recovery cd and select to recover the system and then to recover to factory state. It will then eventually ask for the other discs.
Please be sure that you read the messages carefully; if it asks for a supplementary disc, (which you don't seem to have), you need to click on "no" should it ask for one - this throws alot of people.
    Happy installing

  • How do I install Lion on a newly erased hard drive?

I used every trick on the internet including command R and bupkis. After 3 days I repaired the drive using my macpro as a Target and my iMac with Lion to do the repair. Nada. I have erased the drive completely and need to know how to install Lion. My Mac Pro is an intel based 2.56 GHz duo core. One of the older towers.
    Thanks.

You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.

  • How to Install and boot-up New Blank Hard Drive

I am looking to install a new hard drive on my 2007 MBP C2D. I currently have a stock 200GB 5400rpm Toshiba hard drive installed and I am looking to upgrade. I was looking at a Seagate momentus 320GB 7200rpm SATA or a Western Digital 500GB 5400rpm SATA. Would I have any problems with either of these drives, and would I see significant improvement in performance if I went with the 7200rpm drive?
I was also looking to start fresh with the new drive, only copying and pasting some files from my old drive to the new one. I would do this by first copying the files I want from my old drive to an external, and then copy them to my new drive once it is installed. My questions are do I need to format the new drive? How do I install Leopard? Would I simply put the DVD into the disk drive and install it from there? I've read about partitioning issues and other installation problems; will I have to deal with these by installing it this way?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

All of my external hard drives are Western digital. I am pretty sure that they can only be formatted in FAT32, is that going to be a problem if I decide to clone my current hard drive?
FAT32 is not Mac OS X bootable. If you must have PC readable hard drive that is Mac bootable, get http://www.mediafour.com/macdrive
That will allow your PC to read your Mac drive.
If you want to setup a small network:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2959?viewlocale=en_US
You can still maintain the Mac booting by formatting your drive HFS+, and the PC will still be able to share files with your Mac.
Regardless you can't clone a Mac OS X bootable drive to a FAT32 formatted drive. And there is no such thing as a hard drive that can't be formatted HFS+. They may come initially formatted FAT32, but Apple's Disk Utility can reformat them.
I don't know what restrictions exist in event you run Boot Camp though. For that you'd have to ask in the Boot Camp forum:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1244
Would a 7200rpm drive show significant performance advantages over a 5400rpm drive?
If the drives are of equal capacity yes. Larger capacity but slower drives actually are the nearly the same speed as the faster drives of smaller capacity. I.e. a 120 GB 7200 RPM drive is going to be of equivalent speed to a 160 GB 5400 RPM drive.
Also, the one reason why I want to start fresh is because my computer sometimes runs slow, which it never did in the first few months that I had it.
The speed of the machine is not necessarily as dependent on capacity, as how full it is*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/diskfull.html
Thus as long as you don't approach the arbitrary 85% full point, and as long as all the software you are using has been tested with the currently installed operating system, and as long as your spotlight indexes are complete, and you aren't running any non-compatible optimization utilities, you should never have a slowdown. See my other FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/Macosxspeed.html
to understand why a machine may slow down.
A 10 GB free hard drive sounds like it lacks the necessary empty capacity to run smoothly.
Cleaning the space as suggested earlier may be an easier approach than trying to install a new drive.

  • Need help installing 10.8 on my erased hard drive

Hi,I bought 10.8 and created a bootable disk on a flash drive.
Then, instead of erasing my drive as part of the installation of 10.8, I booted from the flash drive, the used Disk Utilities to erase the drive.  (I know you don't have to erase your drive, but my MBPro has slowed down so much, I decided to)
I don't know why, but now I cannot see the flash drive as a startup disk option - in fact I can't see anything as a startup drive.
When I restart while holding Command + R, I eventually get a box in the middle of screen called "Mac OS X Utilities." There are four options, including Reinstall Mac OS X with the subhead, "Set up and install a new copy of Lion" (not Mountain Lion)
    What should I do?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
That's not what I meant but I tried that after reading your reply. Three icons appeared
on the screen--Recovery HD, Mac OS X, and an external hard drive.
When I click either of the first two, they lead me back to the Mac OS X Utilities box. But this time the OS is
    10.8, not 10.7.
However when I click on reinstall the only hard drives it shows me are my external and the flash drive. But the flash drive already has 10.8
    Thanks!

  • How to install extra media on a different hard drive?

I just bought Logic Pro via the download.
    It installed automatically.
I installed the first group of media that it wanted to install. About 2 gigs worth.
I'd like to install the rest but I need them to live on another drive. The 2nd internal drive would be great.
I can not figure out where in settings I can change the path.
This just does not make sense.
Can someone give me some ideas?
    Thanks
(I'm trying to do this on my iMac w/ OS 10.8.2)

Maybe I would be better off asking the question like this…
My iMac is configured with an SSD drive with 250 GB, as the main drive where programs are installes. There are 88.15 gigs free.
My 2nd internal HD is a 2 TB drive with 1.21 Available.
There is a backup drive attached and another drive as well, both of these via firewire.
Where would be the best place to install the media files for Logic Pro? I was thinking that my 2nd internal hard drive would be the best place. Just can't figure out how to get them to go there, or how to move them there.
    Thanks.

  • How to install Solaris 10 on the same hard drive that has had an XP OS

    Hi All,
I downloaded 5 CDs of Sun Solaris 10 and tried to install the OS on the same HDD that has already had XP OS. But when I boot the machine from CD-ROM to install the new OS, the PC did not do anything but just went back to XP windows. I do appreciate anyone who has a complete procedure to perform this task. I don't know whether the CDs are not bootable, the partition has to be done for the new OS, etc.
    Thanks a lot,
    tv

I've tried doing a dual-boot install keeping my OEM XP environment intact, and have had nothing but problems getting the Solaris 10 11/06 side of the system running - see my previous posts for more details. I followed what seemed to be good instructions for partinioning and installation. Now, I get the grub menu, but when I select Solaris, the OS puts me in a command-line safe-mode which is read-only. Certainly does not help, since I can't modify any files to try fixes, etc.
Seems like most people are using a dedicated system or drive for Solaris, or if dual-boot using older hardware that meets the HCL. I can't find much help on getting a newer system (with more hardware compatibilty issues) working in a dual-boot mode. If you figure it out please let me/us know.
    Good luck!

  • How to Install 10.7 Lion on New Erased hard drive?

I want to install 10.7 on a new, freshly-Erased hard drive.
    My hardware supports 10.7.
Can anyone point me to simple instructions how to do this task?
    Thank you.

2 ways to buy Lion.  $29.99 as a d/l from the App Store (you need Snow Leopard installed).  If you own another Mac with Snow Leopard, you can create an installer DVD/USB) or you can buy the Lion Install USB from Apple for $69.
When you boot from the installer, Select Disk Utility, then erase the disk.  Then quit Disk Utility and install OSX Lion.

  • How to install software from disk onto imac

how to install software from disk onto imac

Are you using one of the newer iMac's with no DVD drive? If so, you can either get an external CD/DVD drive (any make - doesn't have to be Apple) or, if you have another Mac on the same network that has a CD/DVD drive you may be able to do it by turning on 'DVD or CD Sharing' on that Mac (System Preferences>Sharing). Hopefully you'll see the disk on the Mac without the DVD drive and be able to install from there.

Need to erase hard drive and reinstall system on iMac but have misplaced original install disks. Tried to use a my copy of Snow lepord 10.6 from my Mac Pro but will not boot. Can original install disks be replaced. Thanks

Yes the original Install Discs can be replaced for a nominal fee. Call AppleCare, you will need a credit card and the serial number of the machine. You can use the AppleCare Contact Info for the phone number on your part of the planet.
