How to interpret DeviceN image?

I'm trying to extract the images from the Ghent Output Suite, 080_DeviceN-Support_6c_x3.pdf
Image [125 0] I can get out fine, it's an indexed color space that uses Separation as the base, it has 1 input and 4 outputs for the alternative space of CMYK.
Image [141 0] I'm not sure how to do, it's an indexed color space that uses DeviceN as the base, it defines the Colorants Black and "PANTONE 265 C" where the pantone is a separation color space in the attributes dictionary and 3 None's.  Now if I apply the tint transform of the DeviceN space from 5 inputs to 3 output for the alternative space of Lab. My resulting palette is wrong so my image isn't correct and I know my Lab to RGB conversion is good from other Lab images and other Indexed/Lab images.
I notice if I instead use the tint transform of the separation colorspace for pantone I get a single tone image that's correct, of course I'm missing the black.  Do I need to apply each colorants tint transform separately and somehow combine them or should I be able to use the Device N's tint transform?
thanks.

I believe I figured this out, the DeviceN tint transform is being applied correctly but it converts directly to Lab data and I was passing arouning a BYTE* color table and since the 'a' and 'b' components of lab data can be negative I was truncating the data.  I'm getting a result now much closer to what Acrobat outputs just a little darker, but not sure why.

  • How to deal with images when detecting/resizing screen?

    Hi there,
    I am trying to learn how to detect screen resolution and
    resize a flash movie to those dimensions. The one thing I'm
    wondering first is, how to deal with images in the movie.
    Do I need a variety of different movie sizes that I serve up
    depending on the resolution, or is there some way of linking to
    higher rez image that can be scaled down to fit the screen?
    Thanks!

    as far as I know this has always been a bit of an issue when
    using
    images inside a scaled movie. If you display a high res image
    inside a
    scaled down movie, flash can't "reoptimize" it so the image
    looks
    jagged. Of course the other way around is even worse..
    Serving images based on the screen res could be possible if
    you detect
    it using javascript but could be a night mare to maintain and
    test it...
    I guess the questions I would ask myselkf are:
    1. what is my audience? What resolution the majority of them
    will have?
    2. Is there anyway I can keep the image size fixed, and scale
    to fit he
    rest of the design?
    3. How much time do I have to implement the customized
    version?
    It really depends on your project..but to answer to your
    quuestion yes
    you can detect.
    http://www.pageresource.com/jscript/jscreen.htm
    and your flash will have to interpret and load images from
    different
    directories based on the var passed

  • How can I assign image file name from Main() class

    I am trying to create library class which will be accessed and used by different applications (with different image files to be assigned). So, what image file to call should be determined by and in the Main class.
    Here is the Main class
    import org.me.lib.MyJNIWindowClass;
    public class Main {
    public Main() {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    MyJNIWindowClass mw = new MyJNIWindowClass();
    mw.s = "clock.gif";
    And here is the library class
    package org.me.lib;
    public class MyJNIWindowClass {
    public String s;
    ImageIcon image = new ImageIcon("C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/Desktop/" + s);
    public MyJNIWindowClass() {
    JLabel jl = new JLabel(image);
    JFrame jf = new JFrame();
    jf.add(jl);
    jf.setVisible(true);
    jf.pack();
    I do understand that when I am making reference from main() method to MyJNIWindowClass() s first initialized to null and that is why clock could not be seen but how can I assign image file name from Main() class for library class without creating reference to Main() from MyJNIWindowClass()? As I said, I want this library class being accessed from different applications (means different Main() classes).
    Thank you.

    Your problem is one of timing. Consider this simple example.
    public class Example {
        public String s;
        private String message = "Hello, " + s;
        public String toString() {
            return message;
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Example ex = new Example();
            ex.s = "world";
            System.out.println(ex.toString());
    }When this code is executed, the following happens in order:
    1. new Example() is executed, causing an object to constructed. In particular:
    2. field s is given value null (since no value is explicitly assigned.
    3. field message is given value "Hello, null"
    4. Back in method main, field s is now given value "world", but that
    doesn't change message.
    5. Finally, "Hello, null" is output.
    The following fixes the above example:
    public class Example {
        private String message;
        public Example(String name) {
            message = "Hello, " + name;
        public String toString() {
            return message;
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Example ex = new Example("world");
            System.out.println(ex.toString());
    }

    The short answer is that you'll put the source clip(s) for each inset on a different video track, all stacked up. Then use the Scale and Position effects (under "Motion" on the Effect Controls panel) to reduce their size and place them where you want.
    If the content of an inset will involve edited content (where you're cutting among various clips or just trimming out unwanted content from a single clip), then you'll probably find it easier to do all those edits in one sequence, then nest that sequence in the master sequence, where you apply the Scale and Positioning effects. That will save the step of applying the scale and position effects to each edited track item.

    When browsing a new library that I created and exported onto an external hard drive, the browser shows dotted lines around grey rectangles, no images. When I double click on a rectangle, the image appears, but all the other rectangles remain empty - no image. How do I get images to appear in the browser rectangles? I am viewing this on a second computer (an older intel duo iMac), not the one I created the library on (a MacBook Pro). Both computers have Aperture 3.2.4 installed. When I return the external to the MacBook, all images appear in browser rectangles. What's happening on the iMac?

    You may have a problem with the permissions on your external volume. Probably you are not the owner of your library on the second mac.
    If you have not already done so, set the "Ignore Ownership on this Volume" flag on your external volume. To do this, select the volume in the Finder and use the Finder command "File > Get Info" (or ⌘I).
    In the "Get Info" panel disclose the "Sharing & Permissions" brick, open the padlock, and enable the "Ignore Ownership on this Volume" flag. You will have to authentificate as administrator to do this.
    Then run the "Aperture Library First Aid Tools" on this library and repair the permissions. To launch the "First Aid Tools" hold down the ⌥⌘-key combination while you double click your Aperture Library. Select "Repair Permissions" and run the repair; then repeat with "Repair Database". Do this on the omputer where you created the library and where you can see the thumbnails.
    Then check, if you now are able to read the library properly on your iMac.
