  • How to update bookmarks when merging two PDF files?

We have a company catalog that gets generated once a night.  It's three step process:
Step 1)  A raw XML file gets generated from our main ERP software (Microsoft Dynamics).
Step 2)  Then that raw XML file is ran against a stylesheet with XEP to produce a nice professional looking catalog.
Step 3)  And the third step is a script that merges the front and back covers with the main catalog produced in step 2.  Each cover is two pages (front and back).
My problem is when step 3 runs it produces a final catalog but all the bookmarks are off by 2 pages because the front cover adds two pages in the very beginning.  This post may be premature because up until now I've been merging the PDF pages with a program called "GhostScript" and it allows me to merge them via line command.  I'm just now trying out AcroExch.App COM Object for VBScript so I'll see if it works but wanted to fire this out for help to see if anyone has encountered this or can confirm if Adobe automatically updates them for you?  When I "Merge" the PDF files through Acrobat Pro they get updated automatically, so hopefully it will work the same way with AcroExch.App Object.   Thanks guy!

I think you might be misunderstanding what I'm saying... we are not performing tasks for non-licensed individuals.  We purchased a copy of Adobe Acrobat Standard so we could create a PDF of our catalog.  That catalog we then put on our website and let people download it.  Since our products change all the time, we generate a new catalog every night.  The term "server" is just a place where a script runs, I could have it run on my desktop computer if that's really an issue but I think we're talking semantics.  Acrobat is not what produces the main catalog PDF, that is done through XEP when it runs through the raw XML produced by our ERP software every night.  The only thing we want Acrobat to do is an automated process to merge 3 PDF files together:  Front Cover, Main Catalog and Back Cover.  That's it.   Are you saying that is against the EULA of Adobe for us to do that?
Now for the bookmark problem, what do you recommend I do then?  When I merge all three of those PDF files in Acrobat Standard manually it works perfect.  All I'm trying to do is automate that process once every night.  I know how to automate with Acrobat, I just can't figure out how to fix the bookmark problem?

  • How to keep hyperlink from excel to PDF?

I have some Hyperlinks in excel, and when i convert to PDF, they dont work.
I already installed the Adobe Acrobat PRO XI (Trial version)
    How can i do this?
    tks

    Step 1. Install PDF Editor
    1) Download PDF Editor and install this software by double clicking the exe file. During the installation, please follow installation message and choose the right option according to your needs.
    2) Once the installation finishes, there will be an icon on the desktop. Please launch this software by double clicking the icon.
Step 2. Remove Hyperlinks from PDF
    1) The following snapshot is from the software interface. Please click option Open to add PDF file to software interface. Or you can simply drag PDF file to software interface.
    2) Please find option Edit Link then click it. The mouse will turn to cross. Please drag area around the picture which will lead you to website.
    3) Then there will be red rectangle frame around it. Right click the red frame and choose Property in the dropdown list. Then you will see the dialogue box like I showed in the left named Link Properties. Here you can set link actions, like open a page in a document, open a file or open a website file. Those options are useful when you need to add hyperlinks. Meanwhile it is helpful when you need to remove hyperlinks.
    4) If there is link on the image, the link will be shown on the Property tab. Please simply remove it here and then click button OK to back to the main interface.
    5) By this way, the link will be removed successfully.

  • How to keep the input field from PDF Form to RTF

    Hi,
I'm looking to keep the input fields from my pdf form document to Rtf so I can use them in my Rtf document.
    Regards,
    Alan

    Good day Alan,
I'm afraid that's not possible as form fields in a PDF file have no equivalent either in a Word format (.docx/.doc) or within the Rich Text Format (.rtf).  That data is simply stripped during the conversion as there's no equivalent available.
    Kind regards,

  • How Can I Keep Embedded Documents in a PDF Conversion of a Word Document?

I am running XP and using Word 2010.  I have a document that contains embedded Word documents.  I can convert the document to PDF but I loose the embedded documents when I do.  Is there a way to keep them available in the PDF version?  I can "attach" them, but don't know how to make those attachments obvious to a reader.
Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Something embedded in a Word file isn't going to migrate to PDF with the Word file's "page content".
If the embedded files are support use Acrobat to convert them to PDF.
    Combine the PDFs.
Configure this PDF to open with the Bookmarks showing.
    (Document Properties > Initial View)
Edit / add Bookmarks as desired.
    Be well...

I believe what the original poster wants to do is preserve the bookmarks of a Word file into the interactive bookmarks feature of the PDF specification, so that the bookmarks appear as a clickable linked table of contents when that Word file is converted to PDF. You see this in every ebook or iBook. This is easy to do when converting Word to PDF in Microsoft Windows, but I am not sure it is possible from Mac Word because everybody complains about it on the Mac side.
Converting bookmarks to a clickable PDF TOC is easy to do in other software on the Mac, like InDesign. Apple Pages might do it too, but I'm not sure.

  • How to keep PDF file clear once its been reduced in size

Does anyone know how to keep you PDF file resolution as clear as u originally placed it once you reduce the size of its properties?

Obviously if you reduce the resolution of the images, or compress them more sharply, you can lose quality. It is up to you to experiment with the settings to find a compromise between size and quality. There is no magic bullet.

  • Keeping Bookmarks when using PDF Optimizer

Is there a way to keep bookmarks when using PDF Optimizer? Or a way to easily transfer my links and bookmarks to the new document?

Got it. I had "Discard invalid bookmarks" checked. Since the "Discard bookmarks" in the other menu was not selected I figured I would be fine. Oh well, it's working now.

  • How to setup word docs, converted to PDF on local drive with links to a second file at a page

how to setup word docs, converted to PDF on local drive with links to a second file at a page
Need to setup a set of word documents, converted to PDF that has links from one file to a second file at a given page.
I would like to setup a set of pdf documents, on the hard disk of a PC or Mac, that can be open with acrobat pro running on the same computer and have the link jump to, and open in a new window, in acrobat pro, to a given page of a second document in the set.
Is there a way to setup a link in word and the conversion to pdf that will result in a link that is equivalent to the acrobat link type  you get when you add a link of the type Go to a page in another document?
    Tools-Advanced Editing-Link tool, make a box
Check: Go to page view, Next (Create go to view dialog opens)
Open second document and go to page
Click “Create go to view dialog” to set up link
Result is a link, when view by link properties, with an action of
Go to a page in another document
    File: C:\My Documents\second file.pdf
    Page: 43
    Zoom level: Custom
I got close but did not solve the problem:
I have a version that uses links to a website, using #page=43 at the end of the hyperlink.
That works but will only open to the page if is through the web browser, opening the acrobat reader plugin.
I need to open from a folder on the local harddisk (with relative links), in acrobat pro to the given page of the pdf, on a PC or a Mac.
I could bookmark each page “pagenumberxxx” and jump to the bookmark/page if that would get around some problem
Current Systems in use to create documents with links and view them:
    Windows XP SP3
    Word 2003 SP3
    Acrobat 9 pro version 9.4.4
    Or just to view them:
Mac OS 10 Lion version 10.7.4
    Acrobat 9 pro version 9.5.1
(note I have limited understanding of Mac’s)
    John

No.  There seems to be no automated way to do it.  You can of course go into the PDF and manually add links after you have converted to PDF, but that is what we want to avoid having to do.  We want it to be automatic from the Word doc.

  • How to programmatically add rectangle to a pdf file ?

How to programmatically add rectangle to a pdf file ?
There is several page pdfs, non-vector, black and white.
Users are color blind and have disabilities.
To train them, one adds a rectangle at a certain lower-left point and width, height specified for a page.
The idea is to give the script the page and coordinates and size of rectangle to be added programmatically. Green rectangles are acceptable as the cones are most sensitive there.
Also, additional feature to add bookmarks on the left in the order these rectangle data is provided to the script.
The script could be "hard-wired" by a list of the rectangle coodinates, and page number, pasted inside acrobat and run or entered into acrobat in some way.
Your script would help many disabled people who are distributed through out the world.
Feel free to contact me by email if you wish.
    Dying Vets

    P.S.
This rectangle does not have to be a full annotation rectangle which needs user, date and a lot of info.
Something minimal like this would suffice
    1 0 0 RG % red for stroke color
    200 300 50 75 re
As you can see that the native unit of the pdf file is the "point" having 72 in an inch.
The file dpi would be given. However, one could assume that pixel for the rectangle lower-left and width/height are given.
From the pixels and dpi, the points could be calculated if desired.

  • How do I bookmark to a specific page in a another document

How do I bookmark to a specific page in another document

When you add a bookmark, it defaults to the current page and view (zoom, scroll). If you want it to link to a location in a different document, after you create the bookmark, select it, right-click, and select Properties and then select the Actions tab. Delete the default action and add a new one of the type "Go to a page view". When you're prompted with the "Create Go to View" dialog, open the other document and go to the page and set the view (zoom, scroll) that you want, and then click the "Set Link" button. When distributing the files, make sure they retain the same folder structure. This is easiest done if all of the PDFs are in the same folder.

  • How to add Bookmarks ?

What do I do to make my PDF file that we want to use as an e-book on our website have Bookmarks?
I have never done this before.  I know we can add the e-book to oursite and then charge a fee to open it, but how do we bookmark the pages
    or selections
    thank You

    Hi,
You cannnot add bookmarks using Adobe Reader. I would suggest to use Acrobat for the same. You can download the trial version from Adobe.com.

  • How do I bookmark in Adobe reader touch?

How do I bookmark in adobe reader touch?  I have the surface pro.  When I swipe from the side I only have the search, share, start, devices and settings icons.

Adobe Reader Touch does not support adding new custom/personalized bookmarks to pages yet.
Currently, Adobe Reader Touch supports viewing pre-existing bookmarks that have been created by the author of a given PDF document. If a PDF document has bookmarks, Reader Touch shows the Bookmarks button on the right side of the top toolbar.
The users of Adobe Reader for iOS/Android have requested the capability of adding new custom/personalized bookmarks as well.  We are planning to add the capability to a future release of Adobe Reader Touch. But we cannot commit to a specific date for the release at this point.
