How to keep my song list organized

Hello
This is my first ipod and therefore my first iTunes. I am running win 7 and had no problems installing iTunes, so far so good.
The issue I am having is the organization of the music list that are displayed in iTunes, List View, Album, Grid and Flow List. I have added a file folder from an external HDD and it synced without issue. so far so good.  I added another folder and then it all went sideways .. under libary/music/list view all the albums are seperate entries with covers .. so far so good .. change the view and BOOM everything goes everywhere .. nothing in order ..  albums not together .. with only two albums in iTunes it really looks like a mess  ..  In cover flow I have 17 album covers for two albums .. in cover flow the first two songs from the first album are in there own group then the first song from the next album in it's own group and then 3 songs from the first and then 4 from the other and on and on and on ... it really is a mess .. just from two albums .. what will happen when I install 30 albums .. or dare I say 1000 albums
So I really need some direction in order to have some err.. order
I am not really sure if I have provided enough info in order (there's that word again) for someone to give assistance if not please ask for more info and I will gladly give my left ╖ (oops) ... more info
Thanks from this newbi (am I thought of as an apple seed)
this is an example of my flow list with the only (one) album currently installed on my iTunes I removed the second album due to the mess and thought to contact this board in effort to install my music like the Mac(intosh) i soon might be
6 Angel
2 Never
7 Down
13 Elmo
1 Fire
8 I Do
10 In
4 Island
3 Life
12 Meat
11 Miles
5 New
9 Sway
14 Trampoline
note : its out of order
only under song list are all in numerical order ?????
And please don't let me start on music tags that keep all of this music information flowing because this is my next learning curve and if anyone wants to point me in that direction I will follow
and then there is all of the other things that i am sure I don't know .. lol
Again Thank You

I don't believe there's a way to do that. It might be an idea.
If it's not an idea, you might as well submit it.
(I personally would love a feature like that. :P)

    My album is not litsed alphabetically but it is when synced from PC to iphone. How do I keep the songs list in my iphone as it is in my album?

    Check the section in the User Guide for Music, It might help you navigate around the app a little better: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/ipad_user_guide.pdf
    To reiterate, some reasons you may not be getting Albums group as you want:
    Songs are not properly tagged in itunes prior to synching (you should also make sure Album Artist is tagged, BTW)
    You are using the wrong view in the Music app

  • HT202213 how to keep the songs on your iphone

  • Does anyone know how to keep all songs in the same album when they say featuring someone?

    Each time I load a CD onto Itunes that has an artist who features another artist on that particular song, it puts it in my library as a separate CD even though it will have the same album listed.  For instance Lady Gaga's song just dance features Colby O'Donnis that song is in its own spot while the rest of the cd is together that one song is separate and I don't know how to keep them all together.  Someone help.

    Get the Informations for that song and have a look in the "Sorting" area if there is something different. The data inserted there is just for how iTunes will order the songs.
    If the Interpret in the general informations is "Lady Gaga" and in the sorting area is "Lady Gaga feat. xxxx" than you'll see Lady Gaga as the interpret but it's sort to a second entry "Lady Gaga feat. xxxx".

  • How to keep Single Songs out of Album View?  iTunes11

    What is the proper way to label singles so that Album View does not contain an 'Unknown Album' for each artist with at least one song?
    You would think leaving the 'album artist' and the 'album' field blank it would not put that song in album view, but that is not the case in iTunes 11.  This is how it works on my phone (4S) (iOS 6.0.1) .
    A work-around is to label all singles with the correct artist and title, but label all singles with the same album artist (i.e. 'various artists') and with the same album (i.e. 'singles'), but if you did that iTunes will automatically move all the files from the correct artist folder into one giant 'various artists' folder. (if the 'keep itunes media folder organized box is checked)
    What is the best practice to resolve this nearly useless album view function?

    A cleaner solution is to create a playlist with your running albums, then update the other smart playlists with "Playlist" not in "Running Albums".
    That way, you don't need to update each and every playlist when you add a new running album, you just need to put it in the Running Albums playlist.

    I gave a onceover to the search and couldnt find anything related.. So here it is:

  • Need help, how to keep some songs playing together

    I've done a lot of searching for an answer to this but can't seem to find one and I'm not sure this is possible, but let me ask anyway.
    I have a number of playlists in which I shuffle the tunes but would like to have certain songs (for example Queen's "We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions" play in the correct order (i.e., back to back) as they are intended.
    Is there a way to sort of "combine" or group these two songs so that even during a random playing in a playlist they will still play together?

    Actually, if you have the CD, the easiest way to do this in in iTunes. You won't need to use iMovie.
    Before you import the songs from the CD, select (highlight) the songs that you want to combine together, go to the 'Advanced' menu and select "Join CD Tracks". This will combine the songs together when they are imported into your Library.
    Hope this helps!

  • How to keep some songs untouched-

    Hi guys.
    I'm deserately looking for a way that allows me not to update some songs...
    I do not want Itunes to update the counter, the last played date etc.. of some tracks..
    I know that those information are contained in the ITunes databse...
    Is there a way to lock it down?
    Or a way to avoid the sync. with my IPod?
    Thank you v.much.

    I don't know about turning it off, but you can certainly reset the Play Count and Last Played date by using a script available at Doug Adams excellent site:
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=newplayedcount
    You can also right click on a track and choose Reset Play Count.

  • Need tips to keep cast list organized

    This is my first time working on a big project in Director,
    and I find I am having incredible trouble keeping my cast list
    organized. I am used to using After Effects, where you can create
    folders in your project window, and organize all your assets into
    them. While overall, I prefer Director's interface to Flash, the
    inability to organize the cast properly (not to mention the lack of
    multiple undos!) really get to me. With the director cast, not only
    can I not create folders, I am afraid to even move cast members
    around for fear of breaking something because so many director
    functions refer to a cast member by number. I have always found it
    difficult to organize at the same time that I am trying to be
    creative. Because of this, I tend to be initially messy with my
    cast and code while I try to get things looking right on stage.
    Then, when I have things looking and working how I like them, I go
    back and clean up before moving on to the next scene or segment of
    the project. I am getting the impression, that this doesn't work so
    well in Director. As a result, my cast list keeps getting messier
    and messier. Any tips on A: staying organized in the first place,
    and B: organizing an already messy cast would be helpful.

    1. Create multiple casts. These would be the equivalent of
    folders, in
    terms of a metaphor. You can name the casts anything that you
    like. I
    prefer to segregate my members by type. So I may have casts
    titled
    "code", "graphics", "text", etc. The names change based on
    the needs of
    the project.
    2. Name your members. If you import graphics from PS layers,
    for
    instance, each new graphic will come in with the layer name.
    Name your
    behaviors, this makes them easier to find when you need to
    apply them.
    Any imported cast member will be named with the file name of
    the
    original minus the file extension. You may want to develop a
    naming
    convention to make organization of the members more simple.
    If you reference your members by name in your code, and you
    don't have
    any duplicate names, Director will manage the members for
    you, you don't
    need to remember what cast they are located in.
    3. If you move a member from one location to another by
    dragging the
    member, Director will remember and update all of the
    relationships for
    that member. If you cut and paste, you will lose the
    relationships.

  • How do you prevent songs from playing on iphone (iOS7)?

    My iphone keeps playing music that's not on it. I have albums with songs that I don't wish to hear and didn't download when I purchased them. Some have never been on my Mac. I also have Christmas music that I don't want to hear unless it's December. But my phone keeps shuffling these songs up. Or the interviews that come with some albums… it's relentless.
    When I tap on the listing button, it indicates which song on the album is playing and in the cases I have looked at, has the cloud download button beside it.
    What I'd like to know is how to keep these songs in their boxes until I want to hear them. Any ideas? For what it's worth, I don't understand how this bug/feature exists. I don't want to see this music, let alone listen to it (and be forced to stop what I'm doing to skip the track).
    Thanks,
    Ken

    Thanks. That worked. I already had the automatic download settings off but didn't know about the hide songs option. Everything looks better now.
    After doing so, most of the songs vanished but not all. I did a restore on the device and while trying to synch the songs back onto the phone, which took a while to get started (the usage bar in iTunes only showed 'apps' and 'other', lots of 'other', meanwhile, the Music app on the phone indicated that it was empty), I noticed a section in itunes under all the checklists that seemed to be related to manually added songs. It's gone now and I don't really want to try to get it back but it implied that if you manually dragged a song onto the device, the section would auto-generate and the song would show up there. Extra weirdness is that the song is one of those never downloaded songs that's greyed out when looking at the album.
    Anyway, thanks again.

  • When playing songs in iTunes playlist, How do you keep the next song from jumping to next song? I am working on song list updating other tracks info and then the next song starts and I lose my spot in song list?

    When playing songs in iTunes playlist, How do you keep the next song from jumping to next song? I am working on song list updating other tracks info and then the next song starts and I lose my spot in song list?

    Max OSX 10.6.8, iTunes 11.1
    I had a similar problem: I wanted to synch my playlist to my iphone. I like to have my playlist sorted by genre. But under each genre, albums are not sorted by the track numbers. This is a problem, especially when I am listening to club mixes when the DJ smoothly transitions from 1 track sequentially to the next one. Under the properties of each audio file, the Track Numbers and Disc Numbers are already there.
    My perfect solution was to turn On Sorting - Sort Album under View>Show View Options. Then, select all the songs in that album (Shift click, Cmd click, etc) , and Edit multiple item information (Cmd I). You will see Info-Video-Sorting-Options buttons. Click on Sorting. Then, under Sort Album, Enter the name of the album. Then OK.
    You should now have the playlist sorted by Genre, then each album individually sorted by track numbers. On your playlist you should see, if you scroll right, the column added called "Sort Album".
    Hope this helps.

  • My question is Itunes related.  How do you prevent a playlist saved in Itunes from alphabetizing the song list created. I wanted to keep the original order, and somehow everything was alphabetized without requesting it.

    My question is Itunes related.  How do you prevent a playlist saved in Itunes from automatically alphabetizing the song list.   I had a specific order of songs that I wanted, and Itunes somehow automatically alphabetized them.  Is there a way to turn that feature off, and/or get them back to the original order?   I also noticed that once a playlist has been created, I cannot manually changed the order of the songs from my desktop..  Any suggestions?

    That's just the sort order. It's displaying the media alphabetically because you have clicked on the NAME column near the top of the iTunes window.
    Click on the little triangle above the column of numbers (usually on the far left side of the main iTunes window) and the media will sort in the order in which you added each item to the playlist.
    You can easily reorder songs within a playlist: Click and HOLD on the song you wish to move, then drag-and-drop it wherever you like.

  • How do I get songs on MUSIC to SOUNDS list for to be ringtones on my Iphone4?

    Help! I now have an Iphone 4 (my first smart phone) and previously bought all my ringtones from Verizon store. I was told I can no longer do that and have to purchase ringtones from Itunes. I am still navigating this phone (only had it for three days).
    1. I was able to figure out how to get five songs from my Itunes library onto my Iphone4. I bought these five songs as RINGTONES from Verizon store when I had my old phone.
    2. I synched my Iphone to my Itunes account choosing only these five songs ........ BUT the five songs do not appear on my "sounds" list. I can "see" them under my MUSIC icon on my phone.
    How do I get these five songs onto my SOUNDS list so i can use them either for my main ringtone and/or Contact ID sound. or is this even possible?
    How do I do this?
    HELP!!!!

    Is there any way I can retry to consolidate them in my external hard drive?
    sure.
    preferences > advanced. point iTunes media folder location to the external. on the same tab, ensure that the copy to ... and keep ... organized options are checkmarked. ok out of preferences.
    now consolidate your files via library > organize library.
    all media files will be copied to the external (except those that are already on it - if any).

  • How do I find out if Keep Itunes Media Folder Organized option is enabled programtically

    How do I find out if Keep Itunes Media Folder Organized option is enabled on Windows. My Java application needs to know this because it effects how it should interact with iTunes and last time I looked the api provided by the iTunes.dll doesnt provide this information.
    I have made some progress looking at iTunesPrefs.xml which stores preferences in a binary plist format and have mananged to extract the location of the iTunes xml file using a Java library called dd-plist
    public File getITunesXMLFile()
            System.getProperties().list(System.out);
            String homedir = System.getProperty("user.home");
            File prefsFile = new File(homedir,"AppData/Roaming/Apple Computer/iTunes/iTunesPrefs.xml");
            File xmlFile;
            try
                NSDictionary rootDict = (NSDictionary) PropertyListParser.parse(prefsFile);
                NSDictionary userPrefs = (NSDictionary) rootDict.objectForKey("User Preferences");
                if(userPrefs!=null)
                    NSData iTunesLocation = (NSData) userPrefs.objectForKey("iTunes Library XML Location:1");
                    if(iTunesLocation!=null)
                        String base64 = iTunesLocation.getBase64EncodedData();
                        String filepath = new String(Base64.decodeBase64(base64),"UTF-16LE");
                        xmlFile = new File(filepath);
                        System.out.println(filepath+":File Exists:"+xmlFile.exists());
                        if (xmlFile.exists())
                            return xmlFile;
            catch(Exception ex)
                ex.printStackTrace();
                //Use default then
                xmlFile = new File(homedir + "/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music Library.xml");
                if (xmlFile.exists())
                    return xmlFile;
            return null;
    However the Keep Itunes Media Folder Organized option appears to be stored in the Documents:132 key with other options and this library doesnt seem able to decode the daat into a  base64encoded value. I did think I could just compare differences between the file after enabling/disabling the option in iTunes, but the results are inconclusive - sometimes after chnaging the option the preferences file doesnt seem to change.
    Is there a known hack for this ?

    Thanks that certainly a possible workaround that I can see working but Im not that keen on using a users file as a test file, or adding a file myself that I have to keep deleting.
    The thing is I'm very close, I've found a library that can read the binary xml format to some degree, and managed to decode the Xml Library File sucessfullly (but I don't need to this as available as the in the COM lib anyway as itunes.getLibraryXMLPath())
    but I cannot decode this option whihc is lumped in with others, real shame they dont provide it via the COM lib.
