My daughter has a SIM pay monthly deal on T-Mobile and I have just bought an unlocked to EE/Orange/T-Mobile iphone4.
Why can the number not receive/make calls or texts?
SIM only pay monthly 10 (12 months) is the phone plan

Are you seeing the EE (or T-Mobile) network name and network bars in the top right hand corner of the screen? Turn off WiFi (Settings>WiFi - turn this off). Is there anything next to the network name in the top right hand corner (3G, E or o)? E is Edge and o = GPRS.
If there's nothing next to the network name, turn off the iPhone and then turn it back on. To do this, press and hold down the button on the top until you see the 'Slide to Power Off' message. Slide and then wait for the iPhone to shut down. To turn it back on again, press and hold the top button again unti lkthe Apple logo shows on the screen.
EE and signal bars top left = Yes
Turned off Wifi and next to the EE is 'o' which you say is GPRS? What does that mean please??

Obviously, it worked. But later on, when I went to charge my iPhone with the non-Apple cable, a message popped up (This accessory may not be supported). I dismissed it, thinking it would still charge. No such luck. I tried to unplug and plug it, but still, it won't charge. Now, I have to charge through my laptop. Can anyone tell me how to make third-party cables work? I don't really wanna bring my laptop everytime I charge. I'm planning to only use this cable until I get my hands on an original one. Please help.

How was the iPhone unlocked? First go to tmobile and get
a new proper size SIM card to see if that is the problem.

I removed my battery in an attempt to insert a SIM card, obviously without knowing how to insert the SIM card. I put the battery back into place and it was already charged 100%, but it's stuck in recovery mode. I've already restored it, but it won't boot.

I was trying to insert a SIM card into my iPhone 4 without actually knowing how to do so. I assumed that I was to remove the back of the phone and find a slot for it near the battery. I removed the battery in an attempt to find a SIM slot, and was obviously unsuccessful. I put the battery back into place and screwed the phone back plate back on. Note: the battery was fully charged and the iPhone was working perfectly fine before. After screwing the iPhone back into place properly, I thought, I attempted to cut the phone on and it would not do so. I put it back on the charger, and the screen came up that says "Connect to iTunes". I obviously couldn't do so if its plugged into the wall. I plugged into the computer, connected it to iTunes, went through the Recovery mode process, and it still won't turn on. The computer says that the iPhone is in Recovery mode, but iTunes can't do anything because it has already been restored. When I disconnect it from the computer, I hold all buttons in all possible combinations, but it won't turn on at all. When I plug it into the wall, it again says to connect to iTunes. I don't know if I damaged the battery or any part within the iPhone, but I was sensitive in my approach to removing the battery and putting it back in, and there is no visible damage whatsoever. I am extremely frustrated and in desperate need of Apple-Pro help.

do you have a cdma iphone 4? becauase cdma iphones dont have a sim card slot... the providers that use cdma technology here in the us would be verizion, sprint, criket, ect... if you want to use your iphone 4 on att or tmobile (gsm carriers). then you would need a gsm iphone 4 (has sim card slot). a gsm iphone 4 is different than a cdma iphone 4 (they have different radio chips). maby you missed the sim card slot? sim card slot would be on the side of the phone.. never inside (unless it has a removable back cover like the galaxy s3 or s4), if you dont see a sim card slot on the side of the phone than you have a cmda iphone 4. can you tell me what carrier you are trying to use?

You cannot set it up without a SIM. You need to get one. Doesn't have to be active - you can get a used one on eBay for a buck or two.

No, it won't work because I think the iPhone 3gs take the full size sim card as far as I can remember and not even a micro sim.
The iPhone 4s has a much smaller sim card, so it just is not going to work.
What you could do is go to your carrier and purchase a Pay As You Go sim card in the correct size to fit a 3gs and put it in to activate the phone to use it as an iPod and then take it out.

This may sound frustrating, but on the older phone, you have to go through ever single one of you contacts and change them to be stored to your phone. If you don't want to do that, than you should just reenter the information on the iPhone one by one.
FYI: Bluetooth will not work if the contacts are stored onto the SIM.

Plug your phone into the wall charger for at least 30 minutes...make sure you have a sim card in the phone...then:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
Make sure you have no anti-virus software running or any firewalls...turn all of that stuff off.

Contacts cannot be saved to the SIM card on an iPhone. Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the comptuer. That would be Outlook or Windows Address Book, Windows Contacts on the Windows computers and Address Book on a Mac. There are also web based solutions such as Yahoo or Google. Contacts would have to be saved there and then synced to the new phone.
