How to manually install updates?

I use Sun Update Manager and there are 110 updates available for now. Among the 110 updates, 37 updates that require manual installation are still on the available updates list after I click the 'Install Updates' button and restart the system. How do I install these 37 updates?

There are a couple of things that could be causing this.
Without more info, its hard to know what.
There are some patches that genuinely require manual handling, but they're not common so 30 odd seems like too many.
Your probably blocked on one manual patch, thats a prereq for the rest.
What kernel level are you currently on. If 118833-36 show up in the list of patches to install then thats the one thats causing the problems. (Or 118855 in the x86 world).
Try "smpatch add -i 118833-36"
followed by a reboot. Sun recommends doing this in single user mode. I don't normally bother unless the machine is heavily used and/or critically important.

Got a macbook, and a windows.
How do I install updates for my macbook (software update.app updates) from my windows computer? Can i somehow download.. example, if i have snow leopard 10.6.1, can i then download an update on windows that updates my mac to 10.6.8?

Okay, cool. Is it always "Combo updater" or "Update Combined" that i should download?
I downloaded one of the 10.6.8 updates from apple.com, and it said that i needed 10.6.7 before i installed 10.6.8.
But I got paritioned HD's, one lion and one snow leopard, When lion 10.7.1 or 10.7.2 comes out, can I then download the updates on windows and transfer that update to mac and update just cool?
And how do i stay up-to-date with this?

  • How do I install updates for worm elimination

Operating system OSX 10.4.7, 1GB memory (41CB Free)
    Office 2004 for Mac v. 11.2.5
Just received the following message from my ISP:
    "Mail server report.
Our firewall determined the e-mails containing worm copies are being sent from your computer.
Nowadays it happens from many computers, because this is a new virus type (Network Worms).
Using the new bug in the Windows, these viruses infect the computer unnoticeably.
After the penetrating into the computer the virus harvests all the e-mail addresses and sends the copies of itself to these e-mail
    addresses
Please install updates for worm elimination and your computer restoring.

How do I eliminate worms and viruses?
    iMac G5, Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

There are no known worms or viruses in the wild for OS X.
What is undoubtedly happening is that some windows user, who's machine is infected, has your email addy in their address book. Mass mailing worms will not only send to everyone in the infected accounts address book, but will use addresses from there to spoof the "from:" field in the sent emails.
There really is nothing you can do since it is not your machine that is the problem. It's some windows machine with your email in the address book, sending emails spoofed to appear as if they came from you.

  • Fresh CS4 install, adobe updater not working. How do I install updates?

I just re-installed the CS4 suite (except Acrobat) on my mini after getting that 30:150 "license not working" error. My license now appears to be working and I can open the applications. I'd like to apply update patches, but Updater is not working. Should I go out and install Updater 6.2? I have seen others on this forum told to update manually instead; I started that process but got spooked when the files I downloaded didn't seem to match Adobe's installation instructions. Specifically, the instructions say to click "adobe photoshop updater," but the downloaded file is "setup.app." Is this the correct app to open? And if it is, should my first update be the 11.0.1 /multiple languages? Thanks!

thanks for the quick reply, Ned. Can you tell me whether opening setup.app is the correct way to apply the update? As I mentioned above, that didn't seem to jibe with Adobe's instructions.

  • App Store app is frozen, how do I install updates?

My App Store app seems to be frozen, but only for installing updates. It show I have 3 updates, but when I click to execute, I can't even get to the screen to tell me what apps have updates pending. How do I shake the App Store to of this state? I can still use other parts of the App Store app, including downloading new apps.

If the problems continue, restart iPad, first turn iPad off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPad will turn off after a few moments.
Next, turn iPad on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Is iPad not responding? To reset iPad, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If your device does not turn on or displays a red battery icon, try recharging next.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has some information on how to resume downloads that are interrupted or unable to finish that may help:

  • How to repopulate "Installed Updates"?

Hi, noob here. I was recently trying to remove some updates I had hastily installed and decided I didn't need. I accidentally cleared my entire list of "Installed Updates". I know they are still installed because they don't show up when I check for new updates. I was just wondering if there is a way to repopulate this list with the updates I have installed and if it is possible to remove one's that I don't want or if I should just carry on computing since it isn't a major issue.
Of course I did not have Time Machine set up yet, or I am sure it would be all too easy.
    Thanks for your help!

I don't know how relevant or irrelevant it is.
There is a file in Library/Logs called "Software Update.log" This is a file of type that usually opens in Console but you can open it with a text editor (I have TextWrangler). It has a bunch of lines with what I have installed which is what I see when I look at my SU log. An example of a line is:
    2008-03-09 11:00:29 -0500: Installed "Security Update 2008-001 (PowerPC)" (1.0)
I have a lot more stuff in my Receipts than in the log file. Some are non-Apple things. Others are Apple things that were installed but never had updates.
If it were me I would see if the computer is happy without the log. I guess you could, conceivably, rebuild the log from other information and based upon the structure of the line I provided, but it would be a royal pain.

  • How do I install updated Flash drive? It seems to require OSX 12.

How do I install the latest version of Adobe Flash Drive ??  It seems to require a12.1 version and I have a 10.68.  How do I expand to a 12.1 ??

First, you have posted in a PPC forum, but your profile shows you have Snow Leopard installed. That requires an Intel Mac.
If you have a PPC then you cannot upgrade Adobe Flash from where you are. If you have an Intel Mac you will have to upgrade to Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.77.

  • HT5282 How do I install updates

Do I need a computer or can I from phone

iOS 5 and later can install updates over the air; from the iPhone or iPad device.
Preferably via a WiFi connection, for speed and so you're not consuming cellular data.
Upgrading earlier iOS versions requires connecting to iTunes on an OS X or Windows system.
Once you upgrade your device to iOS 5, you can then upgrade through either path when that's next necessary.

  • How do I install updates after computer was shut off while in the process of installing them?

I was in the middle of installing updates when my computer stalled. I forgot and shut it off. Now I cannot install these updates. What do I do?
    == This happened ==
    Just once or twice

Your content ought not to have been touched by the uninstall, so I'd first just try an iTunes reinstall.

  • How do I install updates to OS 10.6.8?

When I find available updates and try to install them, I get a message "restart computer to install updates"
rather than having the updates downloaded, then restarting my computer. I've repaired disk errors, tried
Safari rather than Firefox 25.01: No difference. Other than calling and paying for Apple support (8 year old
    iMac), what should I do?
    Thank you.

There are no updates to 10.6.8 - that's the highest version Snow Leopard got to. If you want to go further you have to upgrade.
What you can upgrade o depends on your Mac. The requirements for Lion (the next system up, 10.7.x) are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available at the same price but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Mavericks (10.9.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Mavericks are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
    and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • How to manually install OLS?

Can OLS be manually installed without using the Installer? I noticed two files under rdbms/admin: catolsd.sql and catols.sql. Which script should be run? Thanks.

    Hi there,
yes, when you open catols.sql in vi or any other text editor, it tells that it is the install script for OLS; but still, you need to run dbca after the script ran through. catolsd.sql drops OLS.
