How To: Online a FCP sequence

Hi,
I have heard a few various ways to go about onlining a FCP sequence, I was wondering if someone who's fluid in this workflow could explain the follwing sequence:
I've captured all my footage using a DV codec, and have since edited 2 hours to 4 minutes. I want to online that 4 min sequence to Uncompressed 10 bit...what is the proper way to go about onlining just those four minutes and not all of my footage...media manager?

You can start with either deleting your original media or not. Unless you need the space, it doesn't matter. With the original project open, open a new project. Drag the sequence you want to recapture in the new project (thereby copying it.). Select it and choose Media Manager from the file menu or by right (control) clicking on it. Choose "make offline", and "delete unused media". If you look at the media bar at the top of the window, the bar should reflect just the media you'll need for recapturing. Hit OK, and you'll get a bin full of the clips you need.

I have a 90 min long form documentary that now needs onlining. My prior FCP projects were small, short videos with minimal online massaging needed. This time I have mixed formats, 4x3, 16x9, HiDef, Std Def, crappy archival footage, beautiful HD footage, graphics, etc. it all runs the gamut.
My eventual output will be DVD. I do have multi-layers in this project, with color effects, and effect transistions, as well as 8 to 12 tracks of audio. At 90 minutes it hasn't been any problem offlining on my MBP.
But now moving to online I assume that doing this on my laptop would be tough? The good thing is there is no pending deadline, which will help because many of the shots will take some time in COLOR.
To say this is a low budget project, would be a complement. It's more like no-budget. So I am trying to figure out what my options are to do this right. Slow, sluggish is OK for me, if it's CHEAP!
Someone suggested to hook up SATA drives with a card that I can put into the slot on MBP, which would speed up the playback. I do have a dual core MBP, so it is the best I can do on the processing end of things.
Should I convert all my HD files to ProRes for the online? I would hate to compress anything, so I am trying not to cut quality corners. Like I said it will be going to DVD, so I don't need a fancy HD card to output my project.
What are my options and what is the workflow on something like this? Is there any special software that helps the transition from offline to online. I assume that there will be a bit of a struggle relinking all of the different online files from their offline counterparts.
I do have natural breaks in the piece, and could break it up into sections to work on. This could help with memory, RAM issues.
If everyone leans toward a MacPro tower, can I get away with the minimal setup? Maybe a quad core with built in storage and a 24" monitor? Again my main objective is the best quality possible. If I can achieve the same quality on the MBP, with the only downside being time, I am OK with that.
Please let me know your thoughts. Any help would be appreciated.

I have edited in Hollywood for the last 25 years, and have had to figure out all kinds of crazy systems and setups. I can understand your attitude. I wouldn't begin to try and tell you how to online on a Smoke(which I have been on for 14 years).
From a cost saving perspective, and the fact that this will not be broadcast(I think), I had hoped to patch my laptop into a HiDef TV with the monitor adapter and S-Video out, send the sequence to Color, run online drives thru Express34 slot, color correct from laptop using the HDTV(yes with S-Video composite in), and get everything as close as possible.
Then rent some time in a FCP online bay and bring my sequence in, to see how it looks on a broadcast monitor. Maybe by doing it this way I can save the Color time in the online bay. If everything is color corrected to my home HD monitor and is consistent, I could always tweek the final crunched down QT movie in Color again, when I am in the online bay.
I should have been more descriptive with what I wanted to do. I guess I just wanted confirmation from someone that all of the processing and rendering on MBP could be done. I didn't expect it to be easy.
I can't think of a cheaper way to do it. But unfortunately this project has cut many corners, just to end up where it is now.

Edits in stap files shift in FCP sequence

I edited some outtakes from a voice over in STP and saved .stap files. These I dragged into a FCP sequence (422) with 48khz 16 bit audio.
The result was as if I had chopped out the wrong parts: rather than shortening a long silence, the first word of the following sentence was missing!
My work-around has been to convert the .stap files to .wav -- but I'm wondering how this happened?

OK -- the wavs from the session were 41kHz, I guess that must be it

How do I keep FCP from auto-distorting my video when I drag it into the timeline?

FCP keeps auto distorting my video when I drag it into the timeline. It keeps setting the motion aspect ratio to -12.5, then when I set it to 0 and render, the video has lost significant quality even though I have my motion render settings to: best. I figure it is this motion distort which is ruining my quality on render because the avi from the camera is ridiculously clean and un-pixelated. How do I keep FCP from auto-distorting my video? It makes no sense that it does, because at -12.5 aspect ratio, FCP is creating a letterbox for my video. I just want the video to fill the entire canvas that I chose! There must be a setting somewhere that I have missed, but I cannot figure it out for the life of me. Please help!
I have a video shot on my Pentax K-r that is 1280x 720p 25fps. When run it in quicktime pro, the inspector affirms this sizing. And in QTpro there is no letterbox present when the original is played.
In FCP I have the sequence settings at:
HDTV 720p (16:9) (which is 1280 720)
Timebase: 25
I have tried to turn anamorphic on, then off in the clip format settings, and also turn the anamorphic on and off in the sequence settings. No combination seems to correct the problem.

Hi I have done some more digging and found this:
1) In the bottom left corner of FCPX, click the film reel so that you can see all your projects:
2) Select the project you are having problems with and then in the inspector window, click on the spanner icon in the lower right side:
3) Finally a window appears so that you can choose the settings for the video you are using:

Motion 3 problem - sending FCP sequence to Motion

I have been working in Motion 2 for the past three months. I just got Motion 3.
I'll take a sequence that I edited in FCP - I edited clips ABCDE together - and try to send it to Motion. Each clip's original length was 10 seconds, but in FCP I edited them together so that they are only 3 seconds long in a 15-second sequence. Then I go to Send To>Motion. I save the Motion project.
I add some text. Everything is fine. Then I add a behavior. Suddenly those five clips are not edited in their 3-second-long segments anymore - they are their original lengths of 10 seconds and now the project is 50 seconds long instead of 15 seconds, so everything I did up to that point is ruined. When I hit Control-Z, all that happens is the behavior or whatever I just added is gone. The clips don't return to their original edited state.
What the heck? How can I stop it from doing this???
I should mention that I can export my FCP sequence to a .mov and it works okay, so yes, that is a solution. BUT - shouldn't I be able to just send the sequence to Motion?

Let's see ... I added fade in/fade out to the clip itself. I also tried to apply several different Text Sequence effects - fade from left, fade from center, glow ... that's about as far as I got because then when I deleted the last behavior, the whole thing froze up and I got mad and just quit.

Lightning a fcp sequence

Hey, I have one FCP sequence with god light and one FCP sequence ho is to dark.
Can I move the correkt light from the first one to the next one ?
And how do I do it ?

I thought there was a color-match or "auto" feature in the FCP 3-way corrector. That would be a semi-automatic way to get your ho's to find god.
Nothing like that exists in COLOR aside from the 'auto-balance' button, otherwise its up to you to manipulate all the controls to make one look like the other. Its an art that some of us make a living at.

you are asked to maintain the access sequence for the tax condition for which you are putting 7.5%.
goto OBQ1 or img..financial accounting new...global settings.... taxes on sales and purchases ......basic settings.....
find the tax condition type. see in it which access sequence is attached.
if there is none then use JTAX used for taxes in India.
or you can create the similar one for your.
to create the same goto OBQ2.
new entry or copy JTAX.
and assign the access sequence to condition type.
this will resolve your problem if you just need to assign the access sequence.

How can I debug a sequence that has a subsequence is running in a separate thread?
I have to have a continues check for a digital in signal to be able to terminate the sequence if a physical button is pushed.
This is running in a separate thread, but this way I cannot debug the main sequence.
Is there any workaround for this?

You need a third party app to do this... AVI is the only format that you can export from FCP that's windows media friendly... WMF's can be exported with flip4mac... http://www.flip4mac.com Probably the best of the apps...

Why? I can see no good reason for this. I think it's a good idea to have stuff like this
coded in only one placeI don't like your argument for compulsory using triggers for sequences for exactly the same reason as you, ie that I like to keep my code in one place. If I'm reading some pl/sql code which uses a sequence I like to see the fact that the sequence is used in the pl/sql code, rather than to check to see if theres a trigger on the table and then see which sequence that uses.

URGENT: How to run threads in sequence?

Dear experts, I am new to writing threads. I would like to know how to run threads in sequence? How do I know when a thread finishes its task?
In the following code, classes Process_A(), Process_B(), Process_C() and Process_D() are subclasses of Class Thread.
I'd like to know if I am using the join() function correctly? My intention is to wait for the previous process to finish before running the current process.

The advice to go to Compressor left out the part that you may want to convert your audio to AC3 becaus ethe MPEG2 bitrate is probably too high for DVD specs.
This method is in the DVDSP manual and it's in the Compressor manual, both difficult to locate, but easily searchable.
Here's what I'd do: Export the timeline form FCP in the native sequence settings, self-contained. Bring that self-contained movie into DVDSP and let DVDSP handle the transcode.
The advice to go to iDVD is even easier.
