How to open a MAC desktop

How to open my Mac?

It's not something most would want to attempt and it will definitely void the warranty if it's still covered. Assuming you've got a fairly current iMac:

  • Itunes 12.2.2 wont open on mac desktop

I have a desktop mac with OS X 10.6.8.  Processor 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Memory: 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM .I rarely do updates, but I recently updated iTunes and now when I click on iTunes, either it bounces 3 times and then disappears or it won't open at all.  I have searched online for any tips on how to deal with iTunes 12.2.2 and have tried several of them and none have worked: restarting my computer.  Deleting the SyncServices Folder. Deleting the iTunes Library.itl file.  I have a new iphone5 and have been unable to sync it with iTunes to get my previous iPhone 4 apps and info on the new iPhone 5.  I may need to update my OS X, but i don't have any money to pay for a different OS X.  Please help me get iTunes to work properly again!

  • How to open a mac mini

Hi, I was wondering how you take off the mini's shell to access all the inside components

I added a larger HDD to my G4 mini last year. I was surprised at how quickly the bottom popped off. I was reading stuff online and saw many people stating how careful you need to be, how precise, etc. You don't want to scratch your mini, and you want to be careful, but a regular putty knife, not even one of those really thin ones, worked fine.
I had my mini opened in less than 30 seconds on my first try. I didn't scratch any part of the mini.
I would open my new Core Duo mini in a heartbeat when the time comes I want to upgrade it. Still, it would be nice for Apple to come up with a sleek way for top to "pop off" easily, while still being totally secured with no fear of the top coming off when you don't want it to.

  • Mac Desktop on iTunes!

How to get my Mac desktop displayed exactly as it is on iTunes to facilitate faster location of files to be transferred to iPad?

Still not clear as to what you need.
You can attach your iPad to iTunes and review it's contents with no issue.
How are you transferring items to your iPad? Are you auto-syncing or manually dragging and dropping? If you use automatic function, you can select/deselect items, playlists, etc for transfer to the iPad. You will then have a better handle on what has transferred to it.

On my Mac desktop I must have changed a setting so that now when I move the mouse the open windows fly off to the sides and I can't see them. They come back when I move the mouse, but it is so annoying. How can I make the windows not disappear like that?

Click on the Hot Corners..  button and look at the four definitions.  In the picture below, if you moved the cursor to the right top of the screen, it would slide all the applications off the screen as you describe and show the desktop.  Set it to "-" to deactivate.

I have downloaded the latest pages update on my iPad, but my iMac still has Pages version 4.3, and I cannot find out how to update it on my desktop. When I try to send something from my iPad pages via email to be opened on my desktop in Pages, it won't open in Pages. I get a message that it can't be opened because the version is too old. I sent the document as a PDF and it worked. But I want to be able to use Pages back and forth. HOw do I update the Pages version on my desktop iMac?

The file format used by the iOS versions of the iWork apps can only be read by the new iWork apps on your Mac - i.e. Keynote 6, Pages 5 & Numbers 3. Those versions for the Mac require Mavericks, OS X 10.9. The "too old" error on a Mac comes if you are trying to open an iWork '08 or earlier file in the newest apps. If you do have the newest apps you can open the files from your iPad.
If you can't or don't want to upgrade to Mavericks & the newest iWork apps your best option would be to export/share the files from the iPad to a type an older version of iWork can read such as Word, text, Excel, etc.
Or contact AppleCare. They made this mess, let them fix it.

I purchased Mountain Lion on my MacBook and want it on my mac desktop as well. Can I download the same purchase on my desktopMac? and how do i do that?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
When you purchase Mountain Lion, you can install it as many times as you want on all your computers for free. To install it on the desktop, open the App Store, go to Purchases tab and download OS X Mountain Lion.
Another option is to redownload it on the MacBook, put the installer onto a USB drive and connect it to the desktop in order to upgrade

A .exe file is a Windows executable. OS X does not run Windows programs. If you need to use .exe files then you will need to install Windows on your Mac:
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

My mac desktop will not provide sound from internal speakers.  When I go to audio devices window it only shows airplay.  How can I get internal speakers back.

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

  • My iMac opens to a file and not a home page.  How do I make it open to my desktop?

I must have inadvertantly changed something on my iMac (running 10.9).  When the computer starts up it briefly shows the home screen then, immediately, it goes to some type of file.   How do I get it to open in my desktop again?

Obviously, I have told the computer to open a folder at startup
Mac OS has had the behavior that if you have a window open at shutdown, it will automatically have that window open at startup - for your convencience. If you do not want that, there is no need to have a folder open at startup and you can easily avoid that. As mende1 said, make sure you quit (that is Command + Q or File > Quit) all applications before shutdown. And, close all open Finder windows by pressing the little red button in the upper left corner. Also check your System Preferences > General > Close all windows when quitting an application.
