How to populate a text variable

Hi All,
I need to populate a text variable based on the value of a characteristic in the query. Since the value of the characteristic and the text variable value is not the same I cannot use replacement path. So here I have to use customer exit.
My problem is how to get the value of the characteristic in the customer exit.
If the characteristic is used in a variable I know how to get the value of the characteristic (We can get it from i_t_var_range). But here I am not using the characteristic in any variable. So how will I get the characteristic value in the customer exit.
Any useful help will be appreciated.

Hi Srini,
Based on my above scenario suppose that there are only two month values in the cube, say January and March. So in the column side there will be only two column for each key figure, if only month characteristic is there in the column side, one for January and the second for March. Here I want to populate "First" as value for text variable where January is there and "Third" as value of text variable where March is there.
Here you have mentioned "you can read all available values in cube and pass required value/text to text variables". Here how do I write a code to read the month values from the cube, that is my question.
If it is there in some variable I could have got it from "i_t_var_range". But as per user requirement I cannot use a variable restriction on the month and they want to use this text variable across the queries(which I am not creating, user themselves are creating the queries) based on their requirement.

I had a similar issue in my Project.
Please verify if the SMOD enhancement MBCF0002 (EXIT_SAPMM07M_001) is active in your system.
If this is the case, verify from two angles:
a) Whether the Enhancement was accidentally activated - If yes, then De-activate the same
b) If there is some logic coded in the User Exit, but, the Text is somehow not determined...even the existing content in the text field (input to EXIT_SAPMM07M_001) will get vanished.
Hope that your problem will be resolved by this. Pls reward points.

Can you please explain me how to create a Text variable...
In my Cube i had 3 different date fields....
and as per my requirment i need to create a rolling report for which will display data for 6 months rolling.
As the date field which i need to use is not mapped to Time Char's (Cal Year,Cal Month...etc)
For that reason i created below customer exit variable and used offset variables to achieve the rolling 6 months report
Code used for Customer Exit VAriable:
WHEN 'ZC_Cmonth1'. " Current Cal Month Car Expiry
IF i_step = 2.
      CLEAR l_s_range.
determine date
    LV_SYDAT     = SY-DATUM.
    LV_YEAR_ACT = SY-DATUM+0(4).

Set begin date of intervall
CONCATENATE LV_YEAR_ACT LV_MONTH_ACT '01' INTO LV_DATE_LOW.
Set end date of intervall

Fill ranges-tab with: include all values between beginning of year
and actual date

In your specific requirement select the which ever the keyfigure you want to analyse, go to edit mode of keyfigure propeties there select the newvariable type and create the Text variable by maintaining the proper offset start and length and also maintain the in whcih format u want see the month name in column headers. Maintain the Text format or key format. it totally depends on u r requirement.

How to change the text variables for a standard report-writer report ?

I am trying to change the text variables for a report -writer report and transport the same so as to change the title page and the report output heading .I know the Report-Group 6Z02 and the library 6O1 to which it belongs.I tried using the change transaction GR32 after going to the area menu through FGRP . I try to change the text variables through but it throws an error "You chose a name in the reserved name range - try different name ".
I have also tried copying this report into another report and changing the new report . I was able to change and save the text variables . Now when I try to overwrite the original report 6Z02-001 with this new report , it does not allow that.
Let me know how I can change the text variables for the same

How to convert a "text variable" to String with plugin

I am currently developing a InDesign (CS5) plugin, where I need to manipulate text variable.
From the plugin I want to convert the "text variable" to string (in principle I should use the method "VariableToString (..)" of "ITextVariable")"
My problem is, how to find the text varial from its name (I think I should use the method "FindLocationsUsed(..)" of "ITextVariableSuite") and then convert it to String
I don't know how to use interfaces ITextVariable and ITextVariableSuite

That's right. The exact SQL statement executed by the user and the bind variables used with the SQL are collected in the audit trail when the initialization parameter AUDIT_TRAIL is set to DB_EXTENDED. The DB or TRUE value will not populate the SQLTEXT and SQLBIND columns of the AUD$ table.

How to populate multiple text boxes by selecting a value from drop down

I apologize in advance if this is redundant, but I have searched this forum relentlessly to no avail. I have a form connected to an MS Access database. The database is linked to another datadase on an Advantage server. This is dynamic data that has an ODBC driver allowing to link access tables to the Advantage data. Macros on access updates the table being used on this form. The livecycle form connects to the access data via a DSN on a machine that uses acrobat (not reader). This is a physician office, this form should expedite ordering radiology tests on patients. The plan is to use a drop down to select a chart number that will trigger several text boxes to populate dynamically with the corresponding demographic values like name, age, insurance etc.
Using a data drop down I am able to select the chart number. When I used the example from the office supplies database, so that a button will trigger the event with the following code:

I recieve a syntax error, despite adjusting quotation since I am using text rather than numeric fields.
My question is the following:
Is there a simple javascript that I can use to populate these text boxes (which may be read only but would be better if it allows user input)? Or does anyone recommend an alternative method? I would be happy with a link that solves this problem if someone can provide. I am somewhat familiar with js but open to any suggesstion.

The View object API has a setQurery() method that you can use to set the query as needed before executing it via executeQuery(). You can do this in a custom Application Module method exposed to its client interface and bound to the binding layer. You can call this method from your backing bean on a value change listener.

How to make a text variable (running header - character) resize a text frame?

I have successfully been able to get a metadata text variable to auto-resize a text frame, but when I change the text variable to a running header-character/paragraph variable, the text frame does not resize - in fact it gets smaller and squashes the text.
Surely if Indesign can handle one kind of variable it should handle another??

Eugene- I'm trying to avoid the purchase of any 3rd party plugins due to budget constraints.
I realised that all I needed to do was use a wide paragraph rule to emulate a box behind the text, and make the text box long enough to hold all possible variables.
One other issue has now cropped up, the running header (character) only grabs the text up to the first return, but I need it to grab all text formatted with the Character Style (2-3 lines max).
I require a forced line break in the title (where the header is being pulled from) as it has a paragraph rule style attached, requiring a full return for each line of the title.
Any ideas?

Hi Chinho,
PLD is a basic tool without the function you asked for. If you click on Formula Editor, you will find only less than 10 string operations are supported. You may use UDF with FMS by Upper function from SQL to achieve your goal.

How to create a text variable for Calender Yr/Month depending on the prompt for calendar year

Hi everyone
Please assist on this issue:
i have created a Bex report that has an offset for 12 months from the current calender month, i tried to use text variables to replace the calender months but i just learned now text variables from Bex dont work in BO, so I would like to create a prompt in BO to enter Calendar Year and then based on the input(Calender Year) the Webi report must display a 12 months for that Year.
Please also indicate where exactly i have to click in order to get that "Helpful icon " when the my issues have been resolved, because i searched it and havent seen it anywhere on the communications

In BO I recieve my all months for existing data and when i create a prompt for Calender Year the months in the report still has those text varibale for exampl if i enter 2011 on the prompt the text remains for the year that was already there wen i created my text variable... so its not dynamic.....
So if i have text variables in Bex it will display like this in Webi in which it wont change if i put in 2011 as input for the prompt...

for anylong text related work use the functions READ_TEXT and SAVE_TEXT.
read the long text of the BOM item using the proper header and then populate the same text lines to the PS network using the new header specific to the PS network.

How to get the Text variables in the Columns Headings

     My requirement is I need to get data for weekly wise and for the last 10 weeks also. For this purpose I used the restricted KF based on the variables (customer exit) and offset. Also used the text variable for displaying from and to days in the column headings. I am getting the right text for the first column only. But the text offset is not considering.
Ex 07/04/2007 to 07/10/2007      06/27/2007 to 07/03/2007 like that.
I used the two text variables one for from data and other for to date using the customer exit. I am getting the same text as of the first column for the subsequent columns also. Please help me for getting the right text in the columns.

           The quite simple way is to create a text variable with replacement path , as it replaces the value of customer exit used in the report.
create two text variables
First variable:
1 Replace variable with -
external characteristic key value
For interval use ---from value
2.Secod text variable
Replace variable with -
external characteristic key value
For interval use ---To value
offset start -0000 offset length0000
use these variables in the column headings.

How can I utilize text variable in my book which only uses data merge on the first chapter?

Hey ladies and gents, I'm trying to automate a process here and running into trouble. I have the first chapter of a book with several data merge fields (legal documents etc), and want the later chapters to pick up from what I have already merged via text variables or SOMETHING. From what I've tried, the options available to me are limited and buggy.
Using the running header with character styles almost worked, but it removes all visual tracking in text around it (I assume this is a bug) and it only works for the first/last instance of the style. I need something that will fill in all instances.
Here is an example of what I'm doing. In the ch1 document of my book I data merge the Name, Age and Occupation of a person. In chapter two I want to have a variable that takes the name that was merged in ch1. Any ideas? Doesn't seem possible!

I need some solution that references live text, specifically different fields that have been data merged. This solution needs to work between documents, so your cross-reference suggestion was in the right direction. If I data merge 'Plan Name' from a CSV file into my first document and mark it with something (character style, paragraph style, text anchor etc), I want to have places in my other documents that pull that exact text from the first.
If document 1 says 'the plan is XXXX', document 2 will copy that name, i.e. 'According to plan XXXX'. Whatever solution this is it's what I'm looking for.

How to populate a text field by some value from table in Oracle seeded page through Personalization?

I have to populate Description field by default in AGIS page (Advanced Global Intercompany System).
Field Description:
messageTextInput: Description
VO: FunTrxHeaderVO
VO Attribute: Description
VO is entity based.
Now if the field is null then I have to populate this value by some value from table for selected batch_id.
Example:

Also, this value is being populated in the Batch Information region in the same page. So the problem is also be treated as to copy a value from one messageStyledText to messageTextInput in a same page.
Can this be done through personalization, w/o coding?

-> In BI Portal -> tab Business Intelligence -> Bex Broadcaster -> it is possible to create PDF and post it somewhere into Portal or any other network drive. That's fact. I'm searching for possible enhancement of the F4 help next to the field "data name". There are available only following few variables <OBJECT_ID> <SETTING_ID> <OWNER_ID> <PROCESSED_BY_ID> <LANGUAGE_ID> <DATE_ID> <TIME_ID> <WEEK_ID> <MONTH_ID> <QUARTER_ID> <YEAR_ID>
We are facing this issue: generated analysis file is valid for the period from month 01 to month actual-1. So therefore I would like to implement my own variable.
Do you know guys, where to define this own variable with own logic?
Could you please give me some hints how to create a new one and fill the logic?
