How to precisely adjust brightness under Lion

Hi,
working with a Mid 2010 IMac and the Apple Wireless Keyboard it is obvious that brightness may be controlled by pressing both the "fn" key and the respective keys F1 or F2.
Under Snow Leopard I created a list of useful shortcuts to get familiar with the various extra functions. One of them was to press ALT + Shift + fn+F1/F2 to be able to adjust brightness in finer steps than with the a.m. regular tune. The background of my question is the adjustment of brightness in context with a monitor calibration using a colorimeter.
This ALT+Shift method doesn't seem to work since I upgraded to Lion (10.7.3). Any ideas or proposals are appreciated.

Right. Attempting to install or boot a version of OS X earlier than the one installed on the Mac when it was built is likely to fail: Don't install a version of Mac OS X earlier than what came with your Mac
The reason is that new Mac hardware requires new drivers that may not exist on previous versions of OS X.
If it shipped with Lion it might be able to boot Snow Leopard, since there was a period of time in 2011 in which computers produced with Snow Leopard were later shipped with Lion, while the hardware remained unchanged. This will work only if you did not update the Mac's firmware though.

  • How can I maximise windows under Lion?

OK, I realise that this is a trivial question that seems to have been answered several times for previous incarnations of OS X, but I thought I'd read somewhere the the behaviour of the green triffic light buttong had changed under Lion, so that it provide Maximise capability. Ufortunately, from what I cna see, it hasn't :-(
It cycles through various window sizes, and will get close to the maximise function, but only if you have already manually set the size using the mouse (or touch pad).
What I'm realy looking for is a feature that will unconditionally set the window to its maximum possible size - does this exist?
Note that I do not want the full screen facility, which I know about. I dislike this because it hides too much of the application away, such as the menu.
I may be being unreasonable, but this doesn't sound like too much to ask.
Note that this request is partly for myself, but mainly for my wife who has just transferred to OS X from Windows.

If Apple put as much effort into implemeeitng as they've put int justifying *not* impleemmting it then the world would be a better (and different) place.
Apple chose - a LOOONG time ago - to put that power in the hands of developers.  If you develop an app, you can choose how the maximize button works for your app.  This makes the maximize button far more intelligent and useful, if developers take the trouble to do so, since the window can then maximize to display the most content possible instead of uselessly covering the entire screen when the content is only a fraction of that area.  Personally, I think Apple made the right choice, as I almost never want one window to cover the entire screen, but if you disagree, just use Right Zoom.  Or full screen mode.

  • How to gradually adjust Brightness Filter?

I'm trying to get a group of objects to darken when they pass a certain part of the sun, but I can't adjust a fade in with the brightness filter. How can I have a nice transition between the original brightness and the altered one?

Move the playhead to the frame you want the brightness to start decreasing.
In the Filters inspector (with the object of filter selected) click where you see the yellow "diamond" shape (that will set the first keyframe.) (When you mouse over that parameter, you'll see a light gray version of the icon appear -- and once you set one keyframe, then some variation of that icon will persist there; if it's gray, there's no keyframe at that time -- the < and > marks appear when there are set keyframes before and/or after the current time -- you can click on them to advance the playhead to the exact time of the previous/next set keyframe.)
Move the playhead to the end of the brightness range and drag the slider to zero.
Assuming you want the "other side" of the orbit to go back to the original brightness, move the playhead forward to the point where you want the maximum brightness restored and move the brightness slider back up to the setting you require.
Notice you only had to "set" the first keyframe. Motion automatically tracks changes on parameters with any keyframe on it and will automatically apply a new keyframe at the playhead time position IF you change the value of the parameter.

  • Adjusting brightness in Lion, no other thread answers the question.

So I've seen a lot of threads with the same problem and no answer that works, and since apparently now Apple wants to charge me an arm and a leg to answer a simple question (which as a long time user of Apple products disappoints me immensely... there used to be a free online chat, now that's gone, too.), I am hoping someone, anyone on here can help.
The old F1 and F2 brightness controls are disabled in Lion. I want to re-enable them for brightness control, because sometimes I need my display dimmed, sometimes I need it brightened, and I'm not sure if Apple Displays have some voodoo to determine this for me, but my 22" Acer monitor does not.
I am running 10.7.4 on an Early 2008 Mac Pro; ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB graphics card, all default stuff on the internals except 10 GB of RAM. Everything else is running smoothly. It's Acer B223Wbdmr Black 22" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor, brightness all the way up. If more specs will help let me know.
    I have tried the following;
    - Going under system prefs>displays, no uncheck box for auto-brightness
    - Going under system prefs>displays>color, resetting and calibrating, no help
    - Going under system prefs>keyboard, unchecking the new functions of F1 and F2
    - Going under system prefs>keyboards to reassign keys, nothing
    - Going under system prefs>energy saver, nothing
    - Holding shift+option+F1 and shift+option+F2, nothing
Please help me, I'm frustrated, I've Googled for hours, to no avail, and I'm sorry to say I don't have $60 dollars to throw at Apple to answer the phones. I appreciate any help. Thanks!

Apple controls its display brightness by dimming the backlight via USB commands.  If there is no USB connection to the display, or it's a non-Apple display that does not use the same brightness control method, there will be no backlight control from the computer.
It is still possible to dim the image by reducing the brightness of the graphics by changing the color correction tables.

This reduces the number of brightness levels available, so pictures may show contouring.

  • How do I adjust brightness in Windows 7 on my 27" iMac?

After installing all of the Boot Camp support files, I still can't adjust the brightness of my screen when I boot in to Windows 7 Ultimate.  The keyboard seems to work when I try to adjust the brightness, since the adjustment indicator (icons that look like a sun) comes up on screen.
    Is this an installation issue?

    Found the solution!
Control Panel > User Accounts > Change User Account Control settings > slide control to 'Never notify' > Reboot.
    Problem solved.

  • How do I turn off "Automatically adjust brightness" on Mountain Lion using AppleScript

I'm new to Mac, Applescript and Automator and I'm trying to make a automation for when I perform on stage and found a script to set the brightness all the way up but can't find a script to disable "Automatically adjust brightness". Any help would be appreicated.

You could even both “set the brightness all the way up” and “disable Automatically adjust brightness” with just one and the same script:
    tell application "System Preferences"
        -- launch
        -- activate
set current pane to pane id "com.apple.preference.displays"
reveal anchor "displaysDisplayTab" of current pane
        tell application "System Events"
            tell process "System Preferences"
tell group 1 of tab group 1 of window 1
set value of slider 1 to 1.0 -- max
                    tell checkbox 1
if value is 1 then click
                    end tell
                end tell
            end tell
        end tell
        quit -- optional
    end tell

  • How can I adjust the brightness of my old Apple 24" LED Display?

How can I adjust the brightness of my old Apple 24" LED Display?

    Jacob,
Thank you for the quick response. I opened both the TIFF and the EPS in Illustrator. I used the Eyedropper tool to get the CMYK values of the color of the text part in the TIFF, then I went back to the EPS and selected the text and input the CMYK values in the color tab. I know it's not precise, but it's close enough. Could I have done this better?
Yes, I have access to Photoshop but I haven't tried using it with vector files. I am really new to graphic design and I need all the help I can get. Thank you!

  • I have recently installed window vista on my macbook pro under lion, how do i install drivers in vista?

Hi guys, I have recently installed window vista by using boot camp under Lion, and how do i install the drivers for vista?
I don't have any installation disk come with this mac, therefore i have no ideas how it work?
    thanks.

You should visit the Boot Camp forum, https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp. This issue has been asked and answered several times.
There are no Vista/XP drivers for Lion or for the newer Apple computers.

  • Video picture bright green and pink, how do I adjust colour?

how do I adjust colour / brightness of my video picture

Thank you Russ, this certainly helps me out a little bit.  It's not made very clear in other places I've seen that you have to click on the keyframe in the middle of the picture.  Throughout most of yesterday I was clicking on the keyframe in the upper right corner and nothing was happening.  But this all still feels kinda limited however especially compared with what I could do in FCP7.  Is this all FCPX has to offer?  Perhaps I don't understand how this works?
When I click on the keyframe, I get only two choices, linear or smooth.  Yet, the still image still does this ease in and out thing.  How can I adjust that?  Aslo, how can I make constant movement? If I want it to go from picture to picture with constant movement, never starting and stopping, how do I make that happen?

  • Is there a way to adjust shadows in iMovie 11? WhenI adjust brightness it changes shadows also. If not is there free or low cost software available? My operating system is Lion.

Is there a way to adjust shadows in imovie 11. When I adjust brightness, it changes shadows also. If not, is there free or low cost software that I can download? I am using Lion 10.7.1

You used the data.  Verizon can not see what it was sued for.  However your phone can see whats apps used the data.  go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle.  line the dates up with your cycle.  then there will be a bar graph below that   extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right.  after those are extended below that will be a list of apps,  there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

  • How do you adjust the brightness on a Thunderbolt Display

How do you adjust the brightness of a Thunderbolt Display attached to an iMac ?

I had this peculiar ‘issue’ hooking up to my MacBook Retina when my Thunderbolt Display was delivered but Applecare  - thanks Andrew - got me there. It seems daft!
The Thunderbolt Display Brightness slider IS there – you just have to know how to make it show up.
At initial set-up of the Thunderbolt Display [or if the Brightness slider is ever not visible in the System Preferences> Thunderbolt Display window], so long as the Thunderbolt [external] Display and the Macbook Display are ‘mirrored’ I can control the Thunderbolt [external] Display via my MacBook Retina Brightness keys [F1 & F2] – or by the Brightness slider that THEN appears in my System Preferences>Thunderbolt Display window. Once set up the Thunderbolt Display System Preferences Window continues to show the Brightness slider but I occasionally lose it if my MacBook has been disconnected from the Thunderbolt Display for some time – and I then have to start over.
    So:-
    Apple menu >
    System Preferences>
    Displays>
    Click Arrangement [at the top]
Click Mirror Displays [at the lower left]
That then gives me-at-least a Brightness slider on the System Preferences> Thunderbolt Display window [as well as on the Built In Retina Display window] and I can then adjust them independently.
Oddly, having set this up just once the Brightness slider then remains on my Thurnderbolt Display and I can control it [and my MacBook Retina Display independently]. Occasionally I lose it again and have to start over.
    Hope this works for others.

  • How do I do a clean re-install of Safari 5.1 under Lion

I am seeing a number of anomalies in Safari 5.1 behavior/performance under Lion (10.7.1).  This instance of Safari has "inherited" something via Migration Assistant that it should not have. One of the most obvious of these anamolies is that certain web sites do not display properly.  Example: http://www.padilicious.com/ looks like this:
No Style Sheets are selected in Preferences > Advanced.
If I create a new user account, Safari in that instance renders this website properly.  Thus, Internet Plug-in are not the source of this issue.
I have removed all extensions and reset everything in Safari.  I have even deleted Safari preference files to no avail.  What I think I need to do is to completely uninstall Safari and all of its related files and then reinstall it.  Is this possible and, if so, how do I do that?
