How to rebuild OS, without installation disk(s)?

I recently purchased a Mac Pro. It did not come with a restore installation disk. If I needed to rebuild my OS, how do I do it without installation disks?

Restart with the Option key held down and use the preloaded recovery partition. If that becomes unavailable, the computer will download a new one from Apple's servers.

You cannot do this without having the Mac OS X installer from which to boot. Unless you made a copy of the installation disks to another drive, you will need the installation disks. You really should provide them with the sale in any case. If your Mac shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.x, you can call Apple support and ask to purchase a new set of the install disks. If your Mac came with an earlier version of Mac OS X, you can order a retail copy of 10.6 from the Apple Store.

I have an iMac flatpanel OS X 10.4.8 256 ram. Ive had it for around 5 years.Its very slow and crashes alot.
I have no files I want to keep and want to clear the computer fully off. I have misplaced the installation disks that came with the iMac

You could call Apple and see if you can get a set of replacements discs, for a small fee, or Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
If you know what to look for, a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can also be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, FastMac, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.

Laptop is mounted in FW target mode to Mac Mini, which in turn is connected to Time Capsule containing laptop's backups. Is there a way to restore laptop's HD from TC without having a Mac OSX installer disk?

It won't be recognized, because of a different MAC address. So the easiest way to restore the Laptop is to boot it from installer disc and restore the Backup.

Can I repair my startup disk without installation disk?

Disk utility is showing me the following after I ran "verify disk":
The volume Mac HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.

If you have a TM backup on an external drive, restart the computer and hold down the option key. You will get a selection of drives. The TM drive has a recovery drive also. I think it will be listed as Mac OSX. Select it and try booting from it. Your internal drive might be bad and not allowing you to start from that recovery drive.

You DO realize that Adobe Reader is a free product and can be downloaded from the Adobe site, right?
And I suppose it's possible that you got version 8 on disk but that's not common. Are you sure it's Adobe Reader you have and not Adobe Acrobat?

Look as a part of right click-2fingers at a same time you should press on the touchpad.
and check your macbook,the slot where you put the speakers wire if the drivers are not install then a red light will come from it and if not then it means that the drivers are all install.

Upgrading suspect hard drive on SL510. How to do this without install disks ?

Hi,
My SL510 (supplied Fall 2010) has always had problems with HDD. Latest issue took a complete re-image to resolve followed by 0.5 day to restore files from back-up). I no longer have any trust in the HDD, but the rest of the machine works fine.
According to several other posts I reviewed on here, most notably this one ; it seems to be a feasible task to :
1) Acquire a new HDD, SSD seems to be a popular choice.
2) Use Acronis True Image or Clonezilla to make a complete image of the (failing) HDD to an external USB drive and make a boot CD.
3) Put new HDD into SL510, boot from CD and use the cloning s/ware to image the old HDD onto the new one.
Seems reasonable and straightforward. However I have a few questions :
1) Has anyone actually followed above steps and can report success and/or gotchas ?
2) My main concern (and it applies even if I don't have to change the HDD), is that Lenovo did not supply appropriate recovery media with the laptop, nor even anything obvious like a licence key on a sticker on the laptop.
While the SL510 has Win 7 Ultimate, the R&R disk and the Product Recovery CDs provided are both for Win XP and have never worked with the laptop. There was a Recovery partition on the HDD as well, again this never worked that I could figure out, and somewhere along the line it got trashed (my fault), and no longer exists.
So, for instance on the most recent recovery from an old system image, Windows decided my O/S was potentially not genuine and I had to go through a painful re-validation step.
How can I be sure this issue will not come back to haunt me either at a point of upgrading or some other time ?
Can I raise a ticket with Lenovo (and if so where) and request that they provide appropriate recovery media or licence key for my device ?
Appreciate hearing from anyone with prior experience and/or Lenovo service desk person who can shed any light on the above.

u can make recovery cds from the rescue and recovery in the control panel. your sticker with the license for windows is under the battery. I am currently trying to image one also, we'll see how it goes...

A few years ago I purchased Adobe Design Premium CS3. Since then I purchased CS4 Design Standard and recently on my new iMac Pro i installed CS5 Desin Standard.
I want to reinstall Dreamweaver, from my old Design Premium CS3 bundle, on my new iMac. I have the CS3 serial but not the install disk. I don't seem to find a CS3 download on the Adobe.com website. And is it even possible to install a CS3 Dreamweaver next to my CS5 Design Standard bundle?

Old versions are not available for download, unless you purchased the download then you can re-download for up to 3 years. Something important to note is that the installer for upgrades does not require the older version of the software to be installed on your computer. As long as you have a valid serial number you should be able to install the program with the old serial number.

Yes. The only thing that cannot be done is running multiple versions of the same program at the same time, for instance Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS5. They would be allowed to run separately but not at simultaneously.
One thing you should note is that DW CS5.5 is part of Design Premium Suite. The $399 upgrade from your CS5 Design Standard would give you InDesign CS5.5, Photoshop Extended, Flash (Pro & Catalyst), Dreamweaver and Fireworks.

Archlinux Won't Boot With Or Without Installation Disk

At first my laptop started to turn on and off by itself. So I reseatted the ram to see if that was the problem. After a while, it started to tell me to put a disk or some "media device" inside of the computer to get it to run. I mounted my partitions and checked /etc/fstab to find that it was absolutely empty as though I had never genfstab'd in the first place.
I gen-fstab'd like one usually would when installing arch after mounting all partitions and swapon. While mounted, I also update the system, re-installed base base-devel and then restarted. I left the disk in for good measure to see if it would load that up, as without it that I couldn't access my bios. Now, I see a message that says

It also doesn't seem to be a hardware issue but a kernel one. Because when I type in "linux" in front of the colon it'll tell me that "linux" is not found. Also, if that were the case I doubt that I would be able to mount my partitions and find all of my files there still.

Mac OS X 10.5: How to get a replacement installation disk?

Well this is more than a little embarrassing, but I took in a couple recently because the woman was being abused by her own family and they feared for her safety and life. I treated them just like a daughter and son-in-law for over a month. They finally found jobs and a new place to live, so they moved out hastily one weekend, leaving some of their stuff...and taking some of mine. We won't talk about what was missing, except for some reason, one of the things they took was my OSX 10.5 startup disk for my nearly new MacBook Pro.
Can I get a new start-up disk for it in case I need it? Where do I order that?
And where can I find a large supply of faith in humanity that is gone now?

Contact them if possible; otherwise, phone Apple(1-800-SOS-APPL in the United States) and ask for a replacement.

Hi There, When I try to run Boo Camp Assistant on my Macbook 10.5.6 It tells me that it "The disk cannot be partitioned because some files could not be moved...use Disk utility to formate as a single Mac OS extended (Journaled) Volume, restore your information to the disk and try Boot Camp Assistant again" I'm nervous about doing that. But the backup/restore approach is usually cheaper and IMHO more trusty.

How Do I Download Without a Disk Drive - CS 5.1 Ext. Educational Edit.

When a new laptop is purchased they rarely have internal disk drives, so the disk option is impossible. I searched for this specific program type and I cannot find it. Can anyone provide me with a download link to Adobe Photoshop CD 5.1 Extended Education Edition? Thank you for you help.
