How to recover mail from deleted account?

Had some problems receiving mail from an account and the service provider suggested I recreate it and try again... In doing so I deleted the old account and have lost all of the messages in the old inbox and sent mail box. I cannot find anywhere where these might have been put and expect that they have disappeared but does anyone have any tips for finding and restoring them?

It all depends on the type of account and how it was configured. For IMAP-type accounts, mail is stored on the server, and setting up the account again is all that’s needed to regain access to your mail.
If you deleted a POP account, however, then all your mail stored locally in that account’s mailboxes has certainly been wiped out, not just moved somewhere, and you were warned that this would happen by the following alert:
Remove Account
Are you sure you want to remove the <AccountType> account "<AccountName>"?
This will permanently delete the account setup information, mailboxes, and messages from your computer. Messages stored on the mail server will not be affected.
If the POP account was configured to leave mail on the server for some time instead of removing it right away when downloaded, incoming mail that’s still on the server can be re-downloaded by setting up the account again, just like for IMAP accounts, but keep in mind that this would only work for received (i.e. not sent) mail that has not yet been removed from the server.
If the messages are not on the server, and you don’t have a backup, your only option in the case of Mail 2.x is to try to salvage as many deleted *.emlx files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II, TechTool Pro, or FileSalvage (the files to be recovered would be different in the case of Mail 1.x). Of these, the only one I know for sure that can recover deleted *.emlx files is FileSalvage. Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.

  • Can you recover mail from deleted account?

Using Mail 2.0.5, I kept getting a message that port 25 was blocked, and couldn't receive mail from that account. I didn't think to check .mac for solution, but created a new mail account under a different name, with the same settings. When it worked, I deleted the original account...but didn't realize I'd lose all the mail associated with it in my mail program. Thought it would be stored someplace, but I can't find it anywhere. Is there any way to recover mail from a deleted Mail account?

Never did find a solution to this. However because we are using IMAP accounts most of the mail was cached on the client Macs. So I offlined them, loaded Mail, copied all the mail into local mailboxes, recreated the users, went online and copied the mail back into the new hierarchy.
Still can't believe I did such a daft thing!

  • How to restore mails from removed account

    Hello All,
Accidently I deleted two of my POP mail accounts in Mailboxes, then i noticed when i delete accounts, also all mails gone which no in any "on my mac" directory.
When I check /library/mail/mailboxes; which i create mail folders are exist but main sent items and inbox not there as [email protected]@mail.xxxxxx.com INBOX.mbox is empty.
Now how do i get back my main inbox messages?

Time machine or mobile me doesnt work for me. So no any backups
Note that MobileMe is not required for, or even used by, Time Machine. All you need to use Time Machine is an external drive with 2-3 times more free space than what you're trying to back up. If it doesn't work literally, you need to do some troubleshooting. If it simply doesn't work well with your workflow, then choose something else. You must have backups or you will eventually lose more than just a few e-mail messages. See my [Mac Backup Guide|http://www.reedcorner.net/thomas/guides/backups> for more information.
    Anyway all gone i think.
Unfortunately, sounds like it. If there's anything critical, you could try a file recovery utility, but for that to work you would need to turn off the machine now (actually, yesterday would have been better) and don't touch it again until you have the software in-hand. And don't hope for too much, as there's never a guarantee when using such software.

  • Mail from deleted account

Please help. I called Earthlink to resolve some issues with being unable to retrieve my messages off the server. Some gentleman (I'll refrain from an adjectives) told me to delete the accounts under Mail - Preferences - Accounts. This took all emails that were in my inbox and sent box away. He assured me they weren't gone. (He also had me delete my .mac account, why did I listen to him?) Well, they have disappeared. I was able to talk another earthlink representative and now have my settings correct for retrieveing my mail. I am unable to locate where the mail that was in my inbox has gone. Any help would be MUCH APPRECIATED, as I am VERY frustrated. Thank you.

This will permanently delete the account setup information, mailboxes, and messages from your computer. Messages stored on the mail server will not be affected.
To prevent that from happening, you should have moved your mail to custom “On My Mac” mailboxes instead of leaving it in the account’s mailboxes.

Of these utilities, the only one I know for sure that can currently recover deleted *.emlx files is FileSalvage, but if you’re running Mac OS X 10.3 any of them might do. Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.
As you can see, you should regularly back up any data you cannot afford to lose, more so if you’re going to troubleshoot a problem by deleting things...
BTW, if you’re running Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), as your profile indicates, it would have been more appropriate to discuss this in the Mail & Address Book - Mac OS X 10.3 & earlier forum.

  • How to recover mail from time machine

I need to recover all my emails - thousands of messages in numerous mailboxes - from Time Machine. What is the best way to do this?

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it are subfolders representing your Mail accounts. The names refer to the email addresses you use.
Enter Time Machine and scroll back to the snapshot you want. Select the account folders you want and then select  Restore ... to... from the action menu (gear icon) in the toolbar of the snapshot window. Restore the folders to the Desktop, not to their original location.
From the Mail menu bar, select
    File ▹ Import Mailboxes...
Import from the mailboxes in the folders you restored to the Desktop. The imported messages will appear in a new mailbox. Move the ones you want to keep wherever you like and delete the rest. Then delete the folders on the Desktop.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

iPhoto needs to be installed in the Applications folder for the AppStore to see it.

  • Revover emails from deleted account in Windows Live Mail

Hello, I deleted my account in Windows Live Mail and tried the procedure to recover them from C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows
    Live Mail.
    I also tried to Go
to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft and then right click on the Windows Live Mail folder and choose ‘restore previous versions’ but I had no restore point (the option to generate a restore point had been disabled in the past due to the low HD capacity
    of the PC).
I also tried to scan all .eml files from the PC to lave the emails but I had thousands of them in many folders and I can't locate them anymore.
I believe that deleting an account from WindowsLive Mails does not definitely delete all emails in one click so where can rhese emails be?
    Thank you

  • How migrate all mail (boxes and accounts) from 10.6.8 on Mavericks (without Migration Assistant)?

How migrate all mail (boxes and accounts) from 10.6.8 on Mavericks (without Migration Assistant)? Install the system (10.9.1) on a blank disk, copied the program and set up manually. Mail accounts and folders does not work to install and configure. Migration Assistant does not want to use, as it copies everything, and you only need to e-mail. Read a lot, but nothing works.

Try reindexing the mailbox. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.
    Reindex messages.
If that doesn't work try deleting MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3.
    Quit the application.
You need to look in your user Library. Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Mail/V2/Mail Data/MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3.  Move the file to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the file from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return thefile to where you got it from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.5. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • How to stop mail from recovering the same message over and over again to the extent that it has wiped out all start up disk memory?

How to stop mail from recovering the same message over and over again to the extent that it has wiped out all start up disk memory?

You need to find and delete (move to the Trash) the offline mail cache (.offline cache.) It's a hidden folder (files and folders with a preceding dot are hidden) inside the Mail folder (inside IMAP) in your user library. Since it's hidden, in order to see it run the following command in Terminal in Applications>Utilities. Hit return/enter once you have pasted in the command.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true ; killall Finder
To reverse this and hide all those hidden files and folders again
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false ; killall Finder
Leave hidden files/folders enabled until you finish emptying the Trash so you know it's gone.

  • TS3899 How do I prevent mail from deleting on the server after deleting on the phone?

When I delete mail from my iphone when using apple mail, the e-mail deletes on my phone but remains on my computer.  When my co-worker deletes mail from her iphone it is getting deleted from her work computer (and the server).  I have compared settings on our phone and everything appears the same.  How do we stop mail from deleting from the server when she deletes mail from her phone?
    Thanks!

    POP or IMAP?
With POP, this is the conventional way to use it. You download messages and doing so deletes them. Alternatively you can arrange to leave copies on the server for other email clients to be able to see them. The setting to do this can be found under '''Tools|Account Settings|{select account}|Server Settings'''.
With IMAP, you're supposed to store messages on the server. If you want to remove them from the server, move them to the Local Folders account in Thunderbird.

  • Batch deleting mail from an account

I'm frustrated when I get a few days of mail from my account on my iPhone and I have to mark each individual piece of e-mail one by one to set them up for deletion. Am I missing something? Is there a way to click on "Edit" in mail and then tell your phone you want to mark every e-mail for deletion? If I could do that, and then simply uncheck the few that I might want to keep around, it would be wonderful. This is such a simple thing that I would think the Mail program on the phone would have this feature. Perhaps I'm just missing how to do it.
There is a way to mark all your e-mails, but that's to flag them, not delete them.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks.

It wouldn't be easy to delete by accident if you had to affirm your choice through a dialog box. That just seems like something that should be part of the software.
Is there any way to request that something like this be added to the software? Is there a place in the support community where we can request such features?

  • HT201250 How to recover mails of outlook from time machine

How to recover mails of outlook from time machine

    This worked for me:
From Time Machine, restore a good backup of the entire  "/Users/james/Library/Application Support/Address Book"  folder to a different location, like to a folder on your desktop.
(note: the Library folder typically won't show up in Finder. To make it visible, in Terminal, issue this command:
            defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
then restart Finder:  killall Finder  )
Go offline.  Do whatever you need to do to get completely disconnected from the internet (turn off Wireless, unplug the ethernet cable, etc.).  Otherwise, iCloud will immediately overwrite your restore.
Delete the real folder:  /Users/james/Library/Application Support/Address Book
Copy your restore (at the different location), to the real location ( /Users/james/Library/Application Support/Address Book )
Restart Contacts.  Your restored data you want should be there.  Before going online again, Export all these contacts (File - Export - etc...)
Go online again.  iCloud will wipe out your Address Book with what's on iCloud. Re-import contacts as needed from your Export.
