  • How di i remove my e-mac hard drive?

My e-mac is inoperable: I can transfer files to my i-mac by putting the e-mac hard drive into a USB case. How do I remove the e-mac hard drive?

    dave the bookman,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Taner Sezer has a valid warning about the power switch when disassembling eMacs; there are also warnings not to come anywhere near the CRT assembly (especially the CRT yoke) without using a static discharge tool to disperse the dangerous voltage retained by the eMac even after extended time turned off. Bearing that in mind, you can Google "Apple eMac Upgrade Guide" and look for www.lbodnar.dsl.pipex.com in the results.
One suggestion/warning: external USB hard drives (at least on PPC Macs) are known to be flakey and generally require third-party drivers with less-than-steller track records. A Firewire enclosure is more reliable; a dual Fireire/USB 2.0 enclosure, while costing more, will let you use the hard drive on multiple platforms (including Windows with the addition of software like MacDrive.

  • How do I Play videos from external hard drive on Apple TV2?  Can I just move the iTunes Library to the External Hard Drive?

I have several HD videos stored on an external hard drive and would like to bring them into iTunes and play them via iTunes on my Apple TV2, but I am not sure how to go about it.  I don't want to store the movies on my iMac hard drive because it would eat up to much space...so do I just move the iTunes Library to the external hard drive?  And, if so...will the Apple TV2 find the iTunes Library on the external hard drive?  Thanks for any help anyone can suggest.

iTunes content on an external drive isn't a problem.
The simplest method is to just move your library to an external drive.
If you wanted to keep just movies on an external drive, that's a little more difficult. You'd need to put the movies where you want them to reside on the external drive and add drag and drop them onto iTunes while holding down the option key. Obviously any movies already in iTunes would need moving from their current location and removing from iTunes first.

  • 55HT1U LCD TV - how to play home videos from external hard drive

Does anyone know what formats the TV recognizes, or if there is anything I can do to play movies straight from my external? Thanks.

  • How to fully delete safari from mac hard drive

I'm using OSX 10.6.8 and a few weeks ago thru the automatic "Software Update" was offered an update to Safari. Unfortunately I didn't feel the need to check if it was compatible with my version of Snow Leopard. After installing, I was "then" told it was incompatible with my OS. So I re-downloaded Safari 5.1.7 and it wouldn't install, saying that there was already a newer version installed. So I deleted everything I could find that I thought was connected to the new Safari but evidently I don't know where to find it all. I also tried to upgrade my OS but was told it was incompatible, thankfully, before I bought it.
I need directions on how to dig out everything that's preventing the re-install of Safari 5.1.7, AND how to conclusively determing if Mountain Lion will work on my Mac. Is there a site online that will survey my Mac and tell me if Mountain Lion will work, and, what version.
    Thanks,
    Tom C

In order to get back Safari, you have to reinstall Snow Leopard. Insert the Mac OS X DVD, start your Mac holding the C key and reinstall OS X. You won't lose any file. After reinstalling, go to  > Software Update.
Another thing you may do is to upgrade to Mountain Lion instead of reinstalling Mac OS X Snow Leopard. Check that your Mac is compatible > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs
If it's compatible, open the App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. When the download finishes, the OS X Mountain Lion installer will show up, so follow its steps to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion. Make a backup before upgrading to Mountain Lion and check that your applications are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com

  • How to download youtube video in Mp4 format from safari ?

Does anybody knows how to put link and when video plays just click on it and it will download. I had that option a while ago and cant find the way to make it again. Or if you know any other way....

    Using Safari 5.0.1 and Snow Leopard I used part of what I found online and stumbled across the final solution indicated by brackets {}
    From <http://mac-dvd.com/mac-guide/how-to-download-youtube-video-on-mac-for-free.htm l>
    Step 1: Download the videos
    1. Find your favorite YouTube video. This step is pretty self explanatory. Be sure to use Safari and search for your favorite YouTube Video. {Select 720 p or greater.}
    2. Next, you need to go to 'Window' and down to Activity. Click on 'Activity' to bring up the next dialog box.
    3. Once the dialog box has popped up you need to look for the YouTube page among all the page titles and files listed in the window.
    4. Once you locate it and expand all the activities going on in the page, look for the largest file size (this is shown in the right hand side). Most of the files found in a YouTube page are small files while most FLV files are several megabytes.
Once you locate the largest file,
    What I found out:
    {Hold down the SHIFT OPTION key and double click on it. The video should start downloading in your download and be named videoplayback.mp4.}
What I found out in the videos I tested is that if you did not use 720p or higher, SHIFT OPTION double clicking or just double clicking on the large file in the activity window downloaded an FLV file, which you then have to convert to mp4.
    Hope this helps.

  • I have a lot of HD video on my hard drive that I eventually want to edit in iMovie, but just don't have the time now.  It is clogging up the computer, though.  How do I take the Hd clips off Mac for later editing?

I have a lot of HD video on my hard drive that I eventually want to edit in iMovie, but just don't have the time now.  It is clogging up the computer, though.  How do I take the Hd clips off Mac for later editing?

    See "Storage drive" here
    Most commonly used backup methods
Th problem with HD video is it needs a fast external interface, so you should pick a external drive that uses the fastest interface your computer has to offer.
Performance rank fastest to slowest is
    Thunderbolt, USB3, (newer Mac's)
    Firewire 800, USB 2, Firewire 400, USB 1 (older Mac's)
    Newer Windows PC's have USB3, older one's USB 2,1.
You need to format the drive if it comes FAT which a lot do, as FAT has a 4GB file size limit, so this won't work with large HD video files.
So if your  going to use the drive only with a Mac, then head to Utlities > Disk Utility and format it Options: GUID Format: OS X Extended Journaled. (select the drive makers name and click Partition tab)
If your going to use the external drive with a PC, take it to the oldest PC you have and right click and format exFAT.
If you have a Windows XP machine and there is no exFAT, it can be downloaded for free from Microsoft.

  • I have an alias of one of my external hard drives in my trash. When I click on "show original" all my external H D 's and my Mac hard drive show up. How do I delete this icon from the trash without loosing all my files?

I have an alias of one of my external hard drives in my trash. When I tried to delete it, it showed that I was deleting 80,000 files and counting. I stopped the delete process and when I clicked on "show original" all my external H.D.'s and my Mac hard drive show up. How do I delete this alias from the trash without loosing all my files? When I tried to drag it back to the desk top, it just made a duplicate and remained in the trash. When I turned off the external H.D., the trash was then empty. Tried rebooting the computer and then turning the external hard drive back on and the alias shows up in the trash again. Much help appreciated.
    Rich

In Finder's Menu, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes". (no quotes)
Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1 or 2 if there are no real files in them, and reboot.
    If it does contain data...

  • How to download youtube videos to ipad without using a computer.

How to download youtube videos to ipad without using a computer???  Looking to download some videos people created using Dr. Jean music.  My kid used Dr. Jean in preschool and wanted to keep singing them at home.
Looking for a friend that doesn't use a computer.  I myself have downloaded some kids educational stuff and added to itunes and then put on ipod/ipad using firefox.
Is there an easy way, so they don't go to the photo roll??
    thanks in advance.

There are some Apps you can use, but be careful they will only download these videos inside the App, so you won't ba able to play them in your video app or share them.
Most popular is the app called "Video Download" but there are a lot of alternatives for free and even with more quality which you can pay for.

Solved the problem by dumping my external HD onto another computer. Re-formatting and re-installing the data.  Not what I wanted to do but it solved the problem.
