How to reliably check the resolution for a pdf file?

Should I use preflight to reliably check the resolution for a pdf file?  I have posted my frustrations on http://forums.adobe.com/thread/978098

You can create your own preflight tool to check for the dpi of embedded images.

PDF files don't have one resolution, but may have none or many different resolutions, one per image. You can check the maximum/minimum resoluion with preflight in Acrobat Pro, but not in Adobe Reader.

  • How do I change the thumbnail for a video file?

Can I change the thumbnail for a video file (ex. .mov) in Bridge CS4?

Can I change the thumbnail for a video file (ex. .mov) in Bridge CS4?
Not to my knowledge. It seems it takes a snapshot from about the 10th second of the movie and creates a thumbnail for it. On a Mac the finder thumbnail shows the first frame of a movie, both don't seem to be able in getting customized.
It will be down to a good naming convention I'm afraid. Not having CS4 installed anymore but on Bridge CS6 .mov files play on an reasonable sized scale in good quality in the preview window, maybe that will help you?

  • Any means to check the existence of a .pdf file before opening in SAP GUI

    Dear,
I've learnt from one of the thread that there is a sample program SAP_PDF_VIEWER_DEMO that allows us to open a .pdf file within a SAP windows.
However, I would like to know if there are any means to perform a checking on the existence of the .pdf file first before calling the method open_document as coded in the demo program.
Thanks a lot for your advise in advance,
    Francis

where is this pdf file is ? in user desktop?
if yes you can simply use cl_gui_html_viewer for viewing pdf files. and you can use cl_gui_frontend_service=>file_exists method to check whether the file exists

  • How can i check the authorizations for a query in sap bw 3.1c

    Hi,
While running one query i am getting warning message is  : you do not have authorization to read object ZVERSION  and few column results also not displaying.
I would like to check is there any authorization check for this query and could you explain how we use the authorizations in our BW.
    Thanks in advance....

if you execute su53, the authorization check failed cannot be displayed for reports. because you are executing query in BEx is it?
for this you can trace the userid that executing query to check the authorization check failed. Go to st01 and find out the authorization check failed there.
And you can find in RSRT too. i am not sure that.
One more option is there to check the authorization with help of matrix that you prepared for assigning access/authorization to the users.
    Hope this would help you.

  • How do i specify the filename for a binary file generated by a JSP?

I am writing a report generator that has the ability to generate Excel files. The user clicks on a link (exporter.jsp), the page's content-type has been set to "application/vnd.ms-excel" which naturally prompts the user to either save to a file or open directly in Excel.
It works fine, but requires the user to manually rename the generated file from "exporter.jsp" to "whatever.xls". Furthermore, Firefox will not let you rename the file in save dialog box, it just automatically saves the file as "exporter.jsp", you must rename it from the file browser.
How do specify the output file name from within JSP?
Btw, right clicking and selecting "save link as" allows for specifying the file name, but the file that is created is empty.
    Thanks

You need to set the content-disposition header as well as the content-type.
here is one article on the subject
    res.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");
    res.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + filename);

  • How can I reduce the size of a pdf file for emailing?

I want to send a pdf file which is 8 mb, it has bounced in an email because it is too big, how can I reduce the size of the pdf file for emailing?

Sometimes a simple "Save As" will reduce the file size slightly, but probably not enough to pass the <8 mb threshold of your recipient, as you need.
You've probably seen it, try the next option in the Save As menu, "Reduced Size PDF," and make it compatible with the latest version possible, again considering the recipient. This suggestion assumes Acrobat X. You don't say which version you're using, but this tool was available at least going back to Version 8, but in a different place, you'll have to hunt.
If all that doesn't work, you could remove some images from the source document, which also will reduce the overall size.
    Best luck.

  • How do I reduce the size of a PDF file for emailing?

I have scanned a document on my Canon Printer.  The size is very large about 14 Megabytes.  I do not know how to reduce the size so that I can send it via Mail.  I have searched HELP but have not as yet found an answer.  One suggestion was that in my Mail window there is an option to reduce the size of the attachment but I see no such option in my email.

Another option for sending large files is to use :
    http://www.filedropper.com/
You upload the files to the website and it creates
a URL that you can copy and paste into an email
which you send to the recipient and they use the
generated link to get the file.

  • How do i make the background for a BMP file, transparent?

I've been working on an icon for design reasons, and when i save the file as a .BMP, the background appears white. The file i work in has no background and it transparent, except for the icon of course. The dimensions of the icon are 32px by 32px. I can't upload the bitmap file onto this topic, apologies if that hinders anything,

    Windows Bitmap – Wikipedia
32 bit-per-pixel BMP (mode ARGB )has a leading byte, which is used by Photoshop
as alpha-channel for variable transparency. That's not a part of the BMP specifications.
    It should be avoided, IMHO.
The reason for the introduction years ago has been the faster access by 32 bit
    registers (opposed to 24 bpp).

  • How do I set the default screen a pdf file opens on?

I have a laptop on a docking station, and by default the pdf file would open on my external monitor.  For some reason, it now opens on my laptop screen by default.  How can I change this?  I am using Reader X.  Thanks!

I would say one changes that in a control panel, not in Reader.

  • How do I find the path to a pdf file I have found in Spotlight?

I downloaded a pdf file, and a few days later couldn't remember where I put it on my HD.I found it easily using spotlight, but that brings up the file as a full pdf in Preview, and I can't see any way of finding the patrent folder, or the path to it, so I can find it again or move it. How do I do that?
    Thanks,

    I just found the answer myself - https://discussions.apple.com/message/17196624#17196624 .
I agree with the comments in that thread - not at all intuitive!

  • How can I hide the extension in multiple pdf files?

I make a lot of PDF files and would like to know if there is a way to hide the extensions without using the 'Finder - Preferences - Advanced'  tick box method. It is very time-consuming doing this for every file.

    Thanks for the speedy replies.
The 'show extensions' box was not being ticked between uses.
I make PDFs with several applications. I did not know that extensions could be hidden at source. Now I can do that with some applications, but not all, thanks to VikingOSX.
The number of extensions to hide is now reduced and I will do this with one action, thanks to Linc Davis. (Why did I not think to try this key combination?)
