How to remove duplicate messages from Mail in Mavericks (POP)

I'm having some significant problems with Apple Mail, and despite having researched widely, I haven't been able to find a solution yet. Here is my tale of woe...
My set up is that I use Mail with 5 separate accounts, downloading all messages using POP. I keep all my mail so that I have a permanent record of all conversations, going back more than 10 years - this is about 250,000 emails. I'm running the latest version of Mavericks on a 2010 MBP. I have no intention of moving to IMAP - I need to keep a local archive of all my mail.
A few months ago I was having problems with Mail being very slow to load and search emails. I decided to rebuild the mailboxes, but afterwards discovered that thousands of messages in the inbox of one of my accounts (and some of the sub-folders) had disappeared. Once I realised I tried to go back to a recent Time Machine back up, but, for whatever reason, that part of the back up hadn't worked properly and I was unable to recover the previous status. Ileft it while I decided what to do, and had time to deal with it.
The last 2 years worth of emails on that account were still archived on gmail, so last week I decided to try redownloading the whole lot (something like 72,000 messages), and then uplanned to use one of the scripts I was aware of to remove the duplicates to the trash, and then remove any duplicates in the trash forever. That ought to mean I at least had an archive of the last two years of missing messages, even if I had no record of which ones had been flagged or replied to, etc.
The downloading took about 24 hours to complete, and I now have almost 70,000 messages in the inbox of that account. However, I hadn't figured on two things:
1. Mail 'hides' duplicate messages, meaning that all of the messages I've downloaded are showing as unread, and I can't differentiate the ones I already had in my Inbox, and the new downloads. When I click on those apparently unread messages I can see if they have been replied to or forwarded, etc, but there's no obvious way for me to remove the ones I have already dealt with to the trash, without going through them all manually, which is clearly impossible.
2. The scripts I'd found for removing duplicates don't work. Andreas Amann's Remove Duplicates script doesn't work under Mavericks, and he has abandoned the project. I've also tried the remove-duplicate-messages.scpt made by Jolly Roger (http://jollyroger.kicks-***.org/software/), and while it *sometimes* works on individual subfolders on my Mac (but as far as I can tell removes the duplicate in that folder, rather than the newly downloaded version), mostly it doesn't work at all - it creates a 'Remove Duplicate Messages' folder on my desktop, a log inside it and a folder for removed messages, but nothing appears in the duplicates folder.
So, I'm left in a position where I have 70,000 apparently unread messages in my Inbox, a massively bloated Mail library (which has pretty much doubled in size), a slow and unresponsive Mail program. I figure I have a number of options. Either I could abandon the last week's efforts and revert to the version of

How to remove duplicate emails in Mail
Does anyone know if a good app that works in Lion that will help me remove duplicate emails in Mail? There are some options on the web that I've found but they don't seem to work with Lion.
I have found a very satisfactory solution to eliminating my duplicates in Apple Mail, which is to stop using it and switch to Thunderbird.
There's lots that I like better in Apple Mail, but Thunderbird is light-years more flexible in managing your email than is Apple Mail, because Thunderbird is an open platform with excellent Add-ons available, which include the nifty Remove Duplicate Messages: http://bit.ly/tbird-dups. It is stupid that Apple Mail hides duplicate messages in the background & won't allow users to search and destroy them. Frustrating!

Managing my mail locally on my Mac was a huge project for me, involving integrating tens of thousands of emails. Mail was from gmail, yahoo, and many years of Outlook PST files.
Now that the project is complete, I'm very happy with Thunderbird to manage my email archives. Though I actually would prefer the Lion Apple Mail interface for day to day use, it just isn't flexible enough. -
How can I remove duplicate songs from the iPhone4. The duplicates are not listed in the computer iTunes library.
The simplest thing may be to back-up and then restore the iPhone. If you don't fancy that then remove all media that is currently synced to it, then double check and manually remove any media that remains on the device, before reselecting your sync options.
If you've been manually managing the device and your library doesn't contain copies of all your media then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

How to remove duplicate songs from Itunes
I've consolidates my music in Itunes 11.01. Playlists are just getting crazy with duplicates.
I want to eliminate duplicate music files, as well as eliminate the references in the interface.
Then sync my new IPad.
When I manually erase a duplicate in Windows Explorer, I'm left with a "!" indication in Itunes that the file cannot be found... duh.
I want to find either an easier way to eliminate duplicates without Windows Explorer, or
a way to select all the "!" references in Itunes interface and delete.
Help please from a completely organized person who hates Apples "intelligence" at thinking it knows what I want, and not providing
adequate help under "remove duplicates" in its help index.

I would do it manually. As you can see from turingtest2's post, some duplicates are not really duplicates.
I would also review how you add media to iTunes. It should not be producing all that many duplicates. -
How to remove duplicate entries from Settings General iTunes Wi-Fi Sync?
On my iPhone under Settings > General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync there is a duplicate entry for my Mac. One is active, the other one shows options greyed out, as if it can't see the Mac on the network (although it's the same name). Is there a way to manually remove that entry from the iPhone?
I am running iOS 7.0.4, and OS X 10.9.1, iTunes 11.1.3 on the Mac.iPhone 3G doesn't support Wi-Fi sync or IOS 5.1.1. You have to connect to iTunes using the dock connector to sync.
Unless you have a iPhone 3GS or jailbroken. -
How to remove a message from a thread...
I would much rather have it, that mail.app could figure out how to thread my messages correctly, but for some reason, when the subject is the same, it always thinks it is the same thread (I have a zillion mails with the subject "meeting"!)
Is there any way to simply, (manually?) select some message, and tell mail.app that those messages should not be an that thread??You can always go to View and uncheck Organize By Thread, but that will apply to all messages. I don't know of any way to do it on a per-message basis.
The only solution I can think of is to ask your colleagues to quit using stupid subjects like "meeting" and to put something more descriptive in there (like "meeting with John Smith" or "meeting on 11/20")! -

that consumers do not receive them for at least 1 hour after
publishing. My problem is that I need to be able to delete selected
messages from the topic sometimes before the consumers see it. I've
looked everywhere but can't see a simple way of achieving this. Have I
missed the obvious? (I hope I have!).

Essentially, the messages do not exist until that hour. There is
currently no way to consume them.

How to remove duplicate friends from games in game center lists
In one of my Games it lists multiple duplications of friends for that specific game. How do you delete these extra "listings" for these people. I dont really want have to delete them altogether and go through the process of reinviting.
I've tried signing out and back in again. It doesn't do anything. I still get the unnecesarily long list of duplicate phone numbers and have 2 or 3 of them randomly tick marked. I've tried this multiple times, it doesn't get rid of them at all. As far as I'm concerned, my friends do receive my iMessage from my number rather than my email. I just find it a nuisance to have such a long list of my phone number 25 times over. I don't think it affects anything though, but any way to get rid of them would be great.
Also, it's been 3 days and it still says "waiting for activation" on my iMessage and Facetime settings. How long does this take? As far as I know, my friends have told me iMessaging with me is flawless but I'm confused as to why it's still trying to activate. -
How to remove my picture from mail
In Mail, when I send a email, I just noticed that the sender also gets a picture of me as the recieptant. How can this be corrected, I do not wont a picture of me attached to email.
It uses the image from your contact card in the Contacts app. Find your card, click on the View menu and select Clear Custom Image.
Also, note that this image only shows up on your computer, not the recipient's. -
How to remove gmail-account from Mail
Now that my MobileMe-mail is up and running, and the mails to my gmail-account are forwarded to MM, I want to remove the gmail-account from the sidebar in Mail. However, when I right click theaccount I want to remove and click "delete mailbox" nothing happens, and the gmail-account still appears in the sidebar.
Does anyone know what I should do to delete it?In Mail, select the File -> Preferences menu. Click on Accounts in the toolbar. Select your gmail account on the list on the left and press the Advanced tab. Uncheck the Enable This Account box. That should do it.

How to remove XML messages from Integration Engine

i had created file - XI -file scenario activated it and check messages using tcode SXMB_MONI .Error messages coming after every minute as i set polling intervals to 60 seconds .Now i had deleted related objects from IR and ID but still XML messages coming in ....please anyone can help to stop this scenario anyhow.Dear Jai ,
i had checked everything before this and even i have checked now and i had created that scenaio by my own userid and passwd. Checked sender interface, reciever interface in SXMB_MONI it's the same which i had given name to them . Even we people are surprised that after deleting all the things in IR and ID . i don't know exactly why it is coming but what i am guessing is that after activating the scenarios it might get executed from XI runtime cache and there is no dependency on IR and ID objects . so what i had done that i completely refreshed the XI Runtime Cache by using tcode SXI_CACHE but it's still not working that way also.

How to disable duplicate message from imessage on Mac and Messages on iPhone?
I Just purchased an iPhone 4s. Previous to that, i have been using messages on my macbook pro. When i finally got the two synced up together so that messages were being delivered to my phone when i was away from my computer, i noticed that i received notifications for messages on my phone even when i was on iMessage on my mac. Is there a way to change this so I don't get double the notifications, or do I have to disable iMessage on my phone every time I'm at my computer using messages?
You are correct. The only way to stop it, is to turn off iMessage. Your frustration is actually the reason they made iMessage. It was designed so you could be working on your Mac, and if you recieved a text message, you could reply with out having to locate your phone. I understand it can be frustrating because in my expeirence, when I'm away from my desk, anyone with access to my computer can then sit there and enjoy my conversation with out me knowing about it... I have since started logging out of Messages on my Mac when I walk away. then no one can see it, and when I log back in, the messages are synced back up again. Good luck!! Cheers!
