How do I restore my iPhone 3G, ios 3.1.3, from a backup without updating. I need to restore my ical entries and they are wiped out on both my main and backup drive and mobile me. My phone is also wiped out and I think my back up may be my only hope of getting that info back. Every time I try to restore using itunes 5.1 itunes only shows me th option to restore and update. Not just restore. Will the option to just restore from the last backup present itself in the process or do I need to shift click or something? Thanks for your help...
Can't I fake it out so it just leaves my ios as it is but restores files and settings? ios 4 doesn't really work well with the 3G models. They get slow and buggy. Isn't there some way to just put the ipsw file somewhere and point to it? Or, is there a way to just rip the ical info outof the backup files. That would work to.

You will have to setup as New, then re-install your content from your iTunes Library or re-downloading: Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

i had recently followed orders to restore my iPhone 3gs (iOS 6.1) from a question on apple support. However it was working fine before that, it's just that my phone didn't have signal. So it said to restore my iPhone and now it says that the Activation server is temporarily unavailable and when i plugged it into my mac, it said that i ddn't have a sim card installed. What can I do to fix this besides bring it to the store? it also bugs me because this answer was supposed to work but it just messed my phone up even more. I have an iphone 4 started the problem saying no service, then when restarting asked to connect to itunes and became jammed in MDU mode, I connect to itunes and clicked on restore, it went through all the steps and nearly completed it gives me an error message saying cannot be restored error -1. Can anybody help me how to restore my iphone. or what to do next, some reseller asked me to go the shop where I bought to replace it for me as this error cannot be restored by any shop. It has to be returned to apple and get it replaced. The warranty already expired and don't know what to do.

Yes i had not taken back up before restoring it. However i was just going through some links on the net and there is a software available for MAC to retrieve such lost data. But the point is will the said software work on iphone as the OS is not MAC..

You can restore to a backup made on a device running a higher iOS version; it must be the same or lower. Update your iPhone 5 in iTunes, set it up as a new iPhone, then go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings to erase the phone. Go through the setup screens again and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup. After updating you'll be able to restore to your backup.

There is nothing wrong with the OS update.
Delete ALL your email accounts.
Restart Playbook
Put the accounts back and ensure they are all set with PUSH ON. Manual (push off) will burn battery.
Similarly delete your wifi connections and add back when required.
Turn off wifi is not connected to wifi.
Any "hunting for connection" in email or wifi will burn up battery.
