How to restore safari bookmarks in yosemite??

This question is answered somewhere... but I cannot seem to find the answer and I've seemingly read just about every article on the topic...
I updated my MacBook Pro to Yosemite last night which wiped out all of my Safari bookmarks (which I use daily) and restored bookmarks from 2 years ago. I tried to pull the bookmarks from my iPhone 6 (which were synced to the current and most up to date bookmarks) but somehow wiped those out and synced them with what is now on my MacBook (now not my iPhone and MacBook have the outdated bookmarks from 2 years ago).
I have tried "iPhone Backup Extractor" and "JuicePhone" to pull the bookmarks from previous backups and that did not work. I've even tried going through iCloud, which I rarely use, and ran into some dead ends there.
Please help, I am at my wit's end. Any help would be immensely appreciated!!

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library/Safari/bookmarks.plist. Restore that from your backup.

how to restore safari bookmarks after ios. update

The only way is to restore from a useful backup, if you have one.
If you sync the iPad to iTunes and use Time Machine regularly, you would likely have the appropriate backup to restore from. In that case:
Restore the iPad backup set from Time Machine from a date before you overwrote the bookmarks. The location of the backup is ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ (you can get to it by pressing Cmd+Shift+G in the Finder and entering this path).
Connect the iPad, run iTunes and restore from the backup.
If you use iCloud Backup, then you can restore from iCloud and choose which date's backup you'd like to restore from. You can check if you're using iCloud Backup by opening the Settings app on the iPad, then going to the iCloud submenu and looking at the status right below "Storage & Backup", where it would say "iCloud Backup is off." (or "iCloud Backup is on.", as the case may be).
In any case, keep in mind that restoring from a backup means you lose all application data changes after the date of the backup.

  • How to Restore Safari Bookmarks with Time Machine in Lion

    Hi -
I want to restore my Safari bookmarks.
I am running Lion and have a Time Machine backup with the correct bookmarks.plist file.
The problem - as I see it - is that the "Library" folder - where the Safari bookmarks.plist file is located - no longer shows up (by default in Lion) in the Home folder.
I fixed it so that "Library" does now show up in the home folder but since it was not set to show "Library" at the time the backup I need was done, it doesn't show up in the Home folder for the backup that I need.
I have tried restoring the entire Home folder but this is not restoring my bookmarks for some reason.
I even tried restoring the entire hard drive but that did not work either!
It would seem that the "library" folder - even if it was hidden - would be restored when I did the entire Home folder or the entire hard drive.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Brillianrt! Worked like a charm.
Then I found an easy solution to alphabetizing that doesn't require 3rd party software in a Macworld article:
"Without resorting to external tools or dragging links about, it’s actually fairly simple to order the list. Make sure you can see a Finder window, or your Desktop, and the Safari Bookmarks window at the same time. Now just drag the folder (or folders) you want sorted from the Safari window to your Desktop—you’ll see the folder appear when you release the mouse. Switch to the Finder, and open each folder. Set the view to List view, and then close the window (not strictly necessary, but I’m a neat freak).
Now drag the folder back into Safari’s Bookmarks window; Safari will treat it like a newly-imported folder of bookmarks and add it to the list. Open the folder in the Bookmarks window, and you’ll see your neatly-sorted bookmarks."

  • How to restore safari bookmarks

My iPad mini keeps losing my bookmarks and history in Safari. Someone told me how to reset it, which worked, but I can't remember how iot was done, nor can I find the information again. Why aren't vital skills like this included in the user guide? Where can one find all these secret tricks?

Someimtes closing Safari completely and rebooting the iPad works for this.
To close Safari - Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the Safari icon. Tap the home button.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. Congrats on your new MacBook Pro!
From your Safari menu bar click History > Reopen All Windows from Last Session

how to restore safari settings & how to change the language in safari?

You would need to change the language globally, meaning on all your apps in order to change Safari.
Open Sytem Preferences > Language & Text then select the Language tab.  (It may say System Preferences > International) instead of Language & Text.
Drag the language you want to use to the top of the list.

  • How to export Safari bookmarks to Chrome?

I love the iPad Mini, but Chrome has some knockout features - like single-line URLs, and queries you can dictate. How can I export my Safari bookmarks into my Chrome Browser on the Mini?

I think this information is stored in
    /Users/Library/Safari/Form Values
I've no idea if it's possible to read it (opened in TextEdit, it's encrypted).
But I wonder if it's possible to use a unix command that concatenates the two Form Value files on each Mac into one? If you want to try this make sure you keep a back up of each original Form Value file belonging to each Mac before messing about. Safari should be closed too.
Copy both files onto a single Desktop, you'll need to name them uniquely, say FormValues1 and FormValues2 (note no spaces) then type this command in Terminal (Applications/Utilities):
    cat ~/Desktop/FormValues2 >> ~/Desktop/FormValues1
Then rename FormValues1 back to the original name of Form Values and move it back into the correct folder:
    /Users/Library/Safari/Form Values
I expect you'll have duplicate values in that file now and I've no idea how Safari will handle this scenario, maybe it will clean up but so long as you keep a copy of the original Form Values files you can restore the status quo afterwards. Good luck.

  • Restoring Safari Bookmarks

I'm trying to restore my Safari bookmarks using Time Machine. No matter how far back I go with Time Machine, I get the same bookmark file (dated Feb 09 2007)
I know I've edited it since then but can't fine it.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks

What date's shown on the current one in /Users/username/Library/Safari/? If none stored in TM are between that date and Feb 9, I suspect a hosed TM database. I can't help with solving that issue since I don't use TM.
