How to run classic on OS X Tiger 10.4.10

Hello Mac-users.
Before I got my MacBook, I used to play Diablo. Well, I wanted to play Diablo on my Mac too, but as I was about to install it, a message popped up and said, that my system could not open it. Maybe I need Classic Environment for my OS X Tiger version (10.4.10), but if I do, how will I be able to install it - if I can?
Otherwise, can anyone give me a clue on how to make my Mac 'accept' the installationsoftware?
I know this subject might have been up a few times, but I could not find other subjects that kind of answered my question.
- Kasper Hansen, Denmark

I assume your MacBook is a PowerPC model (G5, G4, etc). If it is Intel based, you CANNOT run the Classic evironment on it as it will simply not be recognised. If it IS PowerPC based, then you can install Classic within OS X 10.4.x (and also 10.3, 10.2 & 10.1) but there are issues to consider: see
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106434 and
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75288
Don't bother with versions earlier than OS 9.2.2
Also, as you don't already have the Classic environment, I'm not sure if merely downloading OS 9.2.2 will do the trick as this is not in itself the Classic emulation environment you need. I've searched Apple's website including the Downloads section but can't find a specific Classic download. When I bought my G5 PowerMac, it was supplied with OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and Classic was included on the Intallation CD. I've since upgraded to 10.3 and then 10.4, and Classic is not included on 10.4's Installation DVD although 10.4 supports Classic if you already have it installed as I have. If you can't find a Classic download on the Apple website, all I can suggest is that you find someone with an installation CD/DVD for 10.2 and borrow it to install Classic. I'm not certain if Classic is included on the 10.3 Installation disk so you'd have to check if you can't find a 10.2 disk. Reading the pages I've supplied links to above, I suspect you may need to re-install 10.4.10 after installing Classic, but the info ion this isn't clear. After installing Classic, set it's Prefs so that a Classic icon appears in the right-hand portion of your extreme upper menu bar. This enables you to turn Classic on and off as required. Only turn it on when you need to use it as it slows the Mac noticeably (even with dual G5 CPUs!!). Hope this helps.

  • OS 9 unable to boot after running classic in OS X Tiger fro first time

    I have this problem with dual boot on an iMac 400 after upgrading the OS X to Tiger.
    After I install the Tiger, I tried to boot up from OS 9 is OK.I restarted in OS X and launch the classic environment, it performs some update to the System Folder and run classic successfully. After which I try to restart in OS 9 by selecting in Startup Disk in Syatem Preferences, once I click restart, it starting up showing the OS 9 mac icon but it change to disk with question mark immediately.
    Have anyone tried this and having the same problem ?

    Hi Leonard!
    How did you upgrade to Tiger?
    Simple Upgrade?
    Archive & Install?
    Erase & Install?
    Which OS did you upgrade from?
    There is some info here Computer Can Start Up From Mac OS X But Not From Mac OS 9.
    Quoted from that page:
    It is likely that the disk was reformatted using Disk Utility for Mac OS X, and that the option to install the Mac OS 9 drivers was not selected. If you do this and then reinstall Mac OS 9 from the Restore CD set included with your computer, it will no longer start up from Mac OS 9, for example. Any time the Mac OS 9 drivers are not installed on the hard disk, you will not be able to start up from Mac OS 9.
    Does that pertain?
    Good Luck!

  • How to run classic apps on a Macbook

    I do not know where to post this, so excuse me if this is OT. But I ran into this page
    http://www.applelinks.com/index.php/more/sheepshaver23_enables_you_to_run_classic_macos_programs_onmacintels/
    I suppose this is a shareware app (not a commercial app) that allows one to run PPC apps and 68K apps on a Intel Mac. Is this correct? If it is, does one need a ROM image? If so I am out of luck as all my PPC native Macs
    (well with the exception to my ibook G4) have been given away (could not get a penny out of the Performa's).
    Also can I run this app on my ibook? I have a old game created in 1989 that for whatever reason cannot run in classic mode (the game ran fine in my Performa 6360 under 9.1). I have tried to get the developer to create an upgrade, but he refuses, and the company that owns the copyright to the game is out of the Mac business, and besides they would not be too happy about him updating the game to run under OSX. So it looks like since I lack a native OS 9 Mac, I am out of luck.
    John

    This is an open-source project. You can get more information here:

    You do need a ROM image to make this work.

  • NAV 2013 R2; How to run a customized report (206 sales invoice) in the classic client

    Hello, in preparing a newly installed NAV 2013 R2, I'm questioning the following:
    In the Development Environment I have customized report 206 Sales - Invoice in the Design menu View Layout with the space of the logo (by Microsoft SQL Server Report Builder) and
    finally saved and compiled.
    When I do run it connects to the server of what I call the classic client or the real NAV 2013 R2 and I can select a posted sales invoice to show the new layout and the result is
    fine as customized as I wanted.
    When I later ordinary print one of the posted sales invoices this customized logo layout doesn't appear on the print. I print in PDF and paper. When I make a next new sales invoice
    this new layout is not in use either.
    Another thing is run print started from the Development Environment is called Sales - Invoice in the header and not just Invoice that it the name when printing when invoicing and
    printing of posted documents.
    Additionally this form of Sales - Invoice shows our company details and good information as web, e-mail, bank account and bank name that is well demanded on a perfect invoice.
    How to get these informations out normally?
    Is the classic client having a wrong report as sales invoice?
    How to run a customized report (206 sales invoice) in the classic client NAV 2013 R2?
    It is like the customized report (206 sales invoice) is not in use yet in the classic client.
    All you wise people out there are welcomed to help me now

  • How to Run the NEW "System Info Command" in Tiger ?????

    I am new to Applescript and was wondering if someone could help me on how to run the new "System Info Command"?
    Thanks!!!

    The "system info" command that red_menace uses above is the new system info command that's mentioned on the web page you referenced. However, red's example only displays the "long user name" and the "AppleScript version" in the dialog.
    The entire system info record actually contains all of these items, each of which you can access just like red_menace shows you in his example:
    AppleScript version
    AppleScript Studio version
    system version
    short user name
    long user name
    user ID
    user locale
    home directory
    boot volume
    computer name
    host name
    IPv4 address
    primary Ethernet address
    CPU type
    CPU speed
    physical memory
    Steve
    PS - if you switch Script Editor over so the bottom pane displays the "Event Log" you'll see the entire system info record displayed in the log when you run red_menace's script.

  • Is there any way to run Classic on an Intel mini running Tiger?

    Due to space limitations, I'm having to retire my old faithful Powermac 6500. It's hard to believe that it's 10 years old. It's running OS8.6, and can run OS9 even though it seems slow and memory intensive.
    Is there any way to run Classic mode on my Intel Core Duo mini? It's hardly a matter of life and death, but I still have several older Mac-based games like Railroad Tycoon II and Myst that I enjoy, and they won't run on the newer mini.
    If space wasn't a problem, I would keep the old machine running just to play games, but it's not possible now.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    -Bill

    The only way is to install (free) emulator programs such as BasiliskII or SheepShaver.
    I have both installed, though I only use them to run older programs to rescue old data from obsolete formats.
    Installing and configuring them is not trivial, unfortunately.
    Links here:
    http://basilisk.cebix.net/
    http://gwenole.beauchesne.info/projects/sheepshaver/
    I don't know if either is suitable for the kind of games you want to play. Graphics is typically where emulators fall behind. But again, I have no experience with those games.

  • How to install Classic on 800MHz SD eMac w/10.4 w/o wiping entire drive??

    I've been trying to help out a friend who bought an 800MHz eMac (SuperDrive) used on Craigslist. Machine is in great condition and came with Tiger installed and working fine. She has since installed many of her own OS X apps, but finds she needs to run a few legacy apps and needs Classic installed.
    She has a 4-CD set of eMac Software Restore discs, which contain OS 10.1.4 plus OS 9.2.2. These are not standalone installers, however. After mounting Disc 1, she is able to reboot from that CD (into an OS 9 interface), but is only presented with a single option, and that is to erase the hard disk and do a complete restore of the original OSes and apps that shipped with the computer. Since she has spent weeks installing apps and configuring the computer just as she wants it, she does not want to have to wipe the entire drive just to be able to add Classic at this point.
    I can think of two alternatives, neither of which will work for her because she does not have access to an external firewire drive, either with or without a bootable system on it. My two methods would be to either:
    A. Boot from an external FW drive in target disk mode and then use a standalone OS 9 installer (which she does have) to get Classic on the eMac;
    B. Clone the entire hard drive to an external drive and then run the 4 eMac Software Restore discs, update to the latest version of Tiger, and then add back all her additional installed apps and utilities, etc.
    1) Am I correct in assuming that method A would, in fact, work?
    More importantly, though, can anyone suggest a simpler way to install OS 9 on this machine which would not involve using an external drive? It's so frustrating that the Software Restore disc is bootable (whereas the standalone OS 9 installer disc is not!)...yet there is no apparent way to access just the OS 9 installer on these Restore discs and to run just that installer and not have to reformat the entire drive.
    2) Any bright ideas on a relatively simple workaround would be greatly appreciated!
    Additionally, it is unknown whether or not OS 9 drivers have been installed on this eMac. I assume, though, that if they had not been installed, then an OS 9 installation would balk and not go through. It would be worth taking that chance, though, as the worst that could happen is that OS 9 would not install. Then there would be no other option but to do a full erase and install from the Restore Discs.
    3) Is there any way of ascertaining in advance whether or not OS 9 drivers have been installed?
    Thanks in advance for any help!
    PowerMac G4/867   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Your initial post notes that OS X 10.4 is installed but 10.1.4 is on the actual restore discs that you have. My recollection is that Apple switched from 10.1.4 to 10.2 late in the production run of the 700 MHz model eMac (specificaly, they upgraded two weeks after I bought my 700 MHz eMac), so a 800 MHz model should have shipped with OS X 10.2, not 10.1.4. There are significant differences in the Restore disc sets between the different OS X versions. In any case it's clear that the discs you have do not include a retail Tiger install disc. You'll eventually want to pick up the retail black-lable Tiger 10.4 Install DVD in case it's ever necessary to reinstall the OS (if the eMac is one that doesn't have a DVD-ROM or DVD-RW drive, the Tiger DVD can still be exchanged for a set of CDs for a nominal fee).
    From your later posts, it appears that you do have a separate OS 9 install CD but that the emac won't boot from that OS 9 disc. It rather sounds as if the disc set you have is actually from an earlier 700 MHz eMac model. Open System Profiler and check the video hardware; if it shows ATI graphics rather than nVidia graphics, you definitely have the wrong set of discs. While there's no online link for this, you can call the Apple Store and ask about purchasing a replacement set of discs for the Mac model you actually have (have the info from eMac: How to locate the serial number and identify your model handy if you call).
    The OS 9 installation method you need depends on the set of restore disks and the original OS X version that was provided with those discs. Since you have 10.4 installed on a 800 MHz eMac, you'd nominally start with Mac OS X 10.4: Restoring applications from a Mac OS X 10.2 Software Restore disc rather than the older Using Restore Discs with Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.3. Unfortunately, reinstalling Classic following that guide does invovlve erasing the HD, which you want to avoid.
    Given the discs you do have is for 10.1.4, you can check the later part of Using Apple Software Restore to install or reinstall parts without erasing (Mac OS X 10.1.5 or earlier) for the steps on how to install parts without erasing. However, if I'm picturing the correct set of Restore discs that you have in hand (there have been enogh different sets of resstore and install discs to make that a royally confusing morass), OS 9 is not on the Restore disc set in versions prior to OS X 10.2; rather, there should be a separate OS 9 Install CD in the set of discs that came with OS X 10.1.4 Macs.
    Under the circumstances, unless you acquire the correct Restore discs for that model eMac, your best chance of getting Classic installed would on first thought be to take up Chopsuey's suggestion about dragging the OS 9 System Folder from the OS 9 Install CD onto the eMac's HD, then try to use that to get a hobbled form of Classic open well enough to use Tome Viewer to extract the full OS 9 System onto the HD. Although the OS 9 CD you have from a OS X 10.1.4 disc set would be for an nVidia graphics eMac and your appears to be an ATI model, the actual graphics hardware is driven by OS X, so having the wrong graphics drivers in OS 9 may or may not actually limit Classsic to running in a 640x480 pixel window.
    I'm pretty sure you'd find it easier to call the Apple Store for the correct set of Restore discs for that model.
    Installing the OS 9 drivers on the hard drive is required to boot the nVidia graphic model eMacs into OS 9 from the HD but is not required to use the OS 9 System Folder to run Classic. Later ATI graphics eMacs won't boot into OS 9 regardless of whether or not the drivers are installed on the hard drive. Either way, if you only want to run Classic, you don't need to reformat the drive to install the OS 9 drivers (nor search for the Terminal hack to put OS 9 drivers onto an already-formatted HD).

  • HT1338 How do I upgrade Mac OS X Tiger?

    How do I upgrade Mac OS X Tiger?

    Note the 867 Mhz or higher (1 Ghz is higher) is necessary for 10.5.
    Note 10.5 also gets rid of Classic, the compatibility for Mac OS 9.
    Note 10.6 to 10.6.8 can be upgraded to 10.7 or 10.8 as long as you have a Core2Duo minimum.   10.7 or later are not compatible with Rosetta, the Mac OS X tool that lets pre-2006 software run on newer machines.  For more on each, see these tips on 10.4, 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8.
    If you meet the requirements after purchasing the 10.6 installer CD.
    10.4.4 through 10.5.8 can be upgraded directly to 10.6.3 to 10.6.6 to 10.7 to 10.7.5
    10.4.4 through 10.5.8 can be upgraded directly to 10.6.3 to 10.6.8 to 10.8 to 10.8.4
    10.7 & 10.8 are separate purchases, and can be downloaded from the Mac App Store once you are at 10.6.6 or 10.6.8 minimum depending on where you are at.

  • Running Classic Apps

    Hi all...
    Anyone advise me : how can i run my old OS9-applications from my iMac-intel based running 10.5???
    please help me in few and clear words so i reach the stuff without reading a lot of webpages or help-articles....
    Many thanks....

    Your profile is a bit confusing, Can you list in your profile the computer(s) you have, including the one about which you are posting?
    Dear Corneluis.... i have :
    1) An Old G4 (Power Pc coming with MacOSX10.2 Original CD).
    2) An Original Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger DVD that i bought after.
    3) My Current iMac 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (with the Original Mac OSX 10.5.x Tiger DVD coming with), and i am running now OSX 10.5.3
    i really need to run the Classic over My iMac for many reasons ... So, i am asking if i can install the Tiger on my iMac (or in any external or internal linked HD) in order to Run Classic Via Tiger ...
    You cannot run OS 9 or the Classic environment on an Intel based Mac. You need a PowerPC Mac, either G3, G4 or G5 or some earlier Macs.
    Is it really impossible to Run Tiger on My iMac in any any way???? Using internal or external linked HD ??
    Using any other Way??

  • IBook G3/600 14" - how to install Classic OS 9?

    I bought a used iBook G3/600 14" without installation disks.  However, I received the original disks from Apple - four disks simply labeled Disk 1, 2, 3, 4.  The G3 is running OS X 10.4.  I need to run an old program that requires OS 9.  When I attempt to run the old program, the system attempts to open Classic and then I get an error that OS 9 is not installed and I need to install it from the installation disks, something about 'other software'.  Well, I have looked through all four disks and do not see any folder that resembles 'OS 9' or 'Classic'.  Should it be there labeled separately, or is it an option when installing OS X?  I attempted to start the OS X installation to see if something like that was an option and all that happened (and I let it run all night) was a white screen with the apple on it and the 'working' circle.
    Obviously, I do not know my way around macs.  The manual that came with the iBook does not have software installation information.  Can anyone help me figure out how to get Classic/OS 9 properly installed alongside OS X so that I can run this program in Classic Mode?
    Edit:  From what I have gleaned from the internet, although I currently have OS X 10.4 Tiger installed, the iBook shipped out with 9.2.1 & X 10.1.2, so the installation disks would probably only have 10.1.2 on them.  With that being said, will I have to erase my hard drive and reinstall OS X 10.1.2 from the installation disks and check off install the OS 9 drivers?  I understand that means losing Tiger, but my only purpose for having this mac is to run that single program.  Do I have to restart the system with disk 1 in the drive and press C?

    I am in a similar problem and made a mistake when I got a OBS ( 14.1 LCD 32 VRAM iBook cheap it did not have the original grey grray disks Maybe 10.2 and I called Apple call centre just to ask what OS it needed and whether I could buy a set but the Australian guy said we do not have stock OBS obsolete Grey disks but would send a 10.4 free which turned out to be a retail international and does not support my iBook it kept on going into darwin black screen I had another sent same thing ,however I did have a set from a newer iBook 10.3   3 install disks 3 software restore disks an OX 9 disk and a AHT disk and 10.3 installed but I need the original AHT.
    what version is yours ? You have to read the version on the grey disks or you were not given a separate OX 9 I am sure they are on a separate disk If you want to keep the 10 .4 and reformat the HD and Partition the HD Buy a HD change the HD then put the older HD in a case  as a USB, then install your grey disks and the old may Boot up as a Boot up disk but it is a USB then you might be able to copy the OS onto your new HD but that may not work too
    Basically I have 2 retail international replacement disks that does not have AHT how come they sent you those 4 disks maybe they do not have OX 9 but you have to check the numbers for the Bundle my 3 Application disks are
    Disk 1.    2 Z 6 9 1  - 4 5   this number   5 4    - A  Disk 2 , .. 5 5 , Disk 3  , 2 4  ! check the numbers in sequence before A my 3  Software restore are Japanese  ! Aplications classic support J 6 9 1 - 45   5 6 -A but my O X 9  is 2 Z 6 9 1  -  5 7 2 1 - A ! There is a usually a sequence order pattern of numbers for the Bundle but sometimes they make a mistake and these numbers are to determine if they can be installed on certain machines most Disk can go in but only certain types can install look on your System profiler and copy it to another external because earlier versions do not have a detailed look at your computer.

  • How to run stored procedure in run-time not in design

    hello:
    I have download the ODT software
    and i installed VS 2003 environment
    amd i have oracle 9i on the server and oralce client on my computer
    and I know how to run the ODT inside the VS2003 and how to use it
    I built a package and inside it a procedure that does not take any parameter
    PROCEDURE "TEST1" IS
    BEGIN
    insert into emp (empno,ename)
    values (3003,'jon');
    END "TEST1";
    this procedure is valid and I can run it in ODT (by right click over the procedure name and select "Run")
    but when I drag it and drop this procedure on a form in application I have a dialog with errors that's not understandable
    for example:
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 27
    PLS-00315: PL/SQL TABLE Declarations must currently use binary_integer indexes
    and many other errors
    ok I want to know how I can call the procedure in the code and give to it the in parameters and then get the out parameters
    I hope to find replay
    thank you

    Hi,
    You have to take care of certain measures other thatn just drag and drop the Oracle procedure to the .NET form.
    Following is a simple code to call an Oracle procedure from the C#.Net form
    ============================================================
    using System;
    using System.Collections;
    using System.ComponentModel;
    using System.Drawing;
    using System.Web;
    using System.Web.SessionState;
    using System.Web.UI;
    using System.Web.UI.WebControls;
    using System.Web.UI.HtmlControls;
    using System.Data;
    using Oracle.DataAccess.Client;
    using Oracle.DataAccess.Types;
    namespace TEST1
         public class CallingProcs : System.Web.UI.Page
              protected System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button Button1;
              protected System.Web.UI.WebControls.TextBox txtYear;
              OracleConnection conn;
              private void Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
                   // Put user code to initialize the page here
                   string oradb = "Data Source=ORA1;User Id=SCOTT;Password=TIGER;";
    conn = new OracleConnection(oradb);
                   conn.Open();
              #region Web Form Designer generated code
              override protected void OnInit(EventArgs e)
                   // CODEGEN: This call is required by the ASP.NET Web Form Designer.
                   InitializeComponent();
                   base.OnInit(e);
              /// <summary>
              /// Required method for Designer support - do not modify
              /// the contents of this method with the code editor.
              /// </summary>
              private void InitializeComponent()
                   this.Button1.Click += new System.EventHandler(this.Button1_Click);
                   this.Load += new System.EventHandler(this.Page_Load);
              #endregion
              private void Button1_Click(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
                   //OracleCommand dbcmd = new OracleCommand();
                   OracleCommand dbcmd = conn.CreateCommand ();
                   dbcmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
                   dbcmd.CommandText = "TEST1";
                   try
                        dbcmd.ExecuteNonQuery ();
                        Response.Write("Excecuted succesfully");
                   catch(Exception ex)
                        Response.Write(ex.Message);
    ============================================================
    Most of the above code is generated automatically. I am using Visual Studio .NET 2003 , C# for it.

  • Can the new intel iMacs run Classic?

    Hi just wondering if anyone knows if you can run Classic on intel
    Intel iMac 17" 1 Gig of Ram 1.83 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    The inability to (easily?) run Classic was a big and unexpected issue for me, when I upgraded from my PowerPC 7500 running OS 8.6 to an Intel iMac. Frustratingly, the iMac had lots of software and lots of Help suggestions about how to migrate from OS 8 or 9 to OS 10... but none of it was useful on an Intel machine.
    After a fair amount of work and some third-party shareware, got it all to work. Moving (exporting then importing) Quicken records was the most difficult task. The most persistent problem is the absence of extension or type/creator information on the files I've moved, which renders them invisible to Spotlight.
