How to set the maximum heap size on a deployed application?

I�m running a fairly large java application and am getting java.lang.OutOfMemoryError. I could increase the heap size in my development environment to eliminate this error. However, I don�t know how to set this in a deployed application. We are currently using ant to build our software.
Another question, when I execute a statement such as java �Xmx512M �cp app.jar. Is it correct to say that the application in app.jar will use to a maximum of 512MB of memory when running?

But first, when you say "a deployed environment" do you mean an executable .jar file? This is what I'm using.The term "deploy" is commonly used to refer to deploying an ear file or a war file on an application server.
I would assume that there is some entry you can include in the .jar's
Manifest.mf file to specify the maximum memory, but I can't find an example of the entry. <a href="http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6197671"></a>

I have tested my Application Client Project in WSAD on my pc and it works fine.
I have 1gb RAM on my pc. When I deploy the same app on another xp pc(same as mine but 512mb RAM) I get a heap size error. Here is the exact error:

Don't know why, but the "maximum heap size: 267380736 bytes" value is just slightly less than 256*1024*1024, wheras the reported initial size is equal to that.
Try setting the initial value to 255MB.

Also in VA change both inbound and outbound retries. For max no. of retry interval change the default value 300000(5 mins) to 600000(10 mins) or whatever you want.

How to increase the Java Heap size ?

I am new to java. I have created a java application and i configured in Eclipse. While running my application it throws an error that
"Exception in thread "Thread-21" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space"
i have used threads in my application. Then i searched some forums regarding this. The answer i got is "Increase the java heap size" using
"java -Xms64m -Xmx256m prog" in command prompt. while running.
But i am not running my application in command prompt. I used Eclipse to run my application. Here my ultimate question is how to set the heap size while running the application in Eclipse and where to set in Eclipse.

Is there a way that I can set the maximum length that a user can input?
I changed the Maximum Length to lower number (from 150 to 100) but I get the following error.
Developer Mode Exception encountered in item SaveLocation
Error: The item SaveLocation has a maximum length (100)
         which is not equal to that of the corresponding VO attribute
       , SaveLocation length (150).
Action: Make sure they are equal in size. There must be other way to set that value

IPod Shuffle: How to set the maximum volume limit

How do I get back to the volume default I set at the onset of using my shuffle?
I have speakers in my Ski Helmet and would now like to turn up the volume louder than I have currently set for my in ear earpods.
Any help is appreciated.

Setting the Maximum Volume Limit
You can set a limit for the maximum volume on iPod shuffle. You can also set a
password in iTunes to prevent this setting from being changed by someone else.
If you’ve set a volume limit on iPod shuffle, the status light blinks orange three times if
you try to increase the volume beyond the limit.
To set the maximum volume limit for iPod shuffle:
1 Set iPod shuffle to the desired maximum volume.
2 Connect iPod shuffle to your computer.
3 In iTunes, select iPod shuffle in the Source pane.
4 Click the Settings tab.
5 Select “Limit maximum volume.”
6 Drag the slider to the desired maximum volume.
The initial slider setting shows the volume the iPod shuffle was set to when you

I got your question, but I think we might be confused here, I did not specify something after the timeout but when you configure it you will see you have the same options
Here is the configuration options on 8.2.5
ciscoasa(config-pmap-c)# set connection timeout ?
mpf-policy-map-class mode commands/options:
dcd          Configure dead-connection-detection retry interval.
embryonic    Configure absolute time after which an embryonic TCP connection
               will be closed, default is 0:00:30.
half-closed Configure idle time after which a TCP half-closed connection
               will be freed, default is 0:10:00
idle         Configure idle time after which a connection state will be
               closed.
Now on an ASA running 8.4.4(9)
WPLG-ASA-1(config-pmap-c)# set connection timeout ?

How to set the default page size ?

I just bought a 15.4" Macbook Pro.
When I use Safari to surf, I found that the image/fonts are to small for my liking.
So I did VIEW > ZOOM IN two times & the image/fonts & it become satisfactory.
But after I shutdown & restart the laptop again, I find that whenever I startup, the page in Safari when back to the smaller setting & I have to click VIEW > ZOOM IN twice again .
My question is how to make this settings permanent ? It is irritating having to do VIEW > ZOOM IN everytime I start up the system !!
Any ideas ?

In Safari, go to Safari >> Preferences. Click on the Appearance tab. Set the standard and monospaced fonts. That not only sets the default fonts for web pages (many web-sites will specify other fonts), but also the default sizes (though web-sites can specify alternate sizes). Also, on the 'Advanced' tab, there's a checkbox labeled 'Never use font sizes smaller than' followed by a drop-down. This permits you to prevent the text from going beneath the specified size.
The advanced tab also permits you to provide a CSS stylesheet to apply as the default. If you know CSS, this can be very powerful.

SSRS 2008 Bubble chart - How to set the default bubble size?

I have a bubble chart. I want to set the size of the bubble in the chart and the size of the bubble in the legend display box to be same. I increased the size of the marker to increase the size of the bubble in the legend display box but it is not increasing
after 8pt. In my chart the size of the bubble is not dependent on any variable or parameter. It is the default size. Is there any way that i can make the size of both the bubble same?

In SQL Server Reporting Services 2008, the Bubble chart has several custom attributes which allow us to control the size of the bubbles. "BubbleMaxSize" and "BubbleMinSize" attributes allow us to define the size of the bubble in the chart series. The values
set are in percent of the whole chart size. We can find those attributes in the property pane by selecting bubble series and expanding 'CustomAttributes' properties.
And based on my research, the Marker size has a wide range, but for some reason once we get to around 8 the bubble in the legend will not grow any bigger. So in your scenario, we can set the Marker size to 8pt, then set the appropriate “BubbleMaxSize" and
"BubbleMinSize" based on the chart size to make the size of both the bubble are the same. For example, we can also set “BubbleMaxSize" and "BubbleMinSize" to 8, then manually adjust the chart size until both the bubbles have same size.
Beside, we can delete the original legend, and drag a tablix to the right of the chart. And then insert the corresponding data and color to tablix to let it looks like a legend. For more details information, you can refer to the link below to see Mike’s

You need to use the -d64 switch to request the 64-bit JVM. E.g.,$ java -showversion -Xmx6g HelloWorld
Invalid maximum heap size: -Xmx6g
The specified size exceeds the maximum representable size.
Could not create the Java virtual machine.
$ java -showversion -d64 -Xmx6g HelloWorld

Maximum heap size of JVM

I need to set the maximum heap size of the JVM. I know that I can do
it for a single run by saying:
java -Xmx75M example.class
But how do I make the JVM use this maximum heap size for all its
runs, without specifying '-Xmx75M' in every run.
I need this because I am using my system as a server for JSP web
site. For that site if a very simple query is given such as 'a' in title, as many as 6000
records as retrieved from my Filemaker Databases and the java
ResultSet object is not able to handle those records. The system is
then throwing an exception and error message 'Host not found' is
sent back to the client's browser. As far as I know, Filemaker does
not support 'LIMIT' keyword in queries.
So please tell me how can I rectify that problem.

I tried setting TOMCAT_OPTS. The maximum I could go in my system is 1300M
i.e. set TOMCAT_OPTS="-DXmx=1300m".
Still I am having the problem that when some 5000 records are fetched from the database, the ResultSet object is not able to handle them. It is able to handle upto 2000 records. I am using windows2000, jdk1.3.2 and Filemaker Pro 5.0 databases.
I tried to set the maximum number of records that can be retrieved to 2000 so that the problem will be solved. But I am not able to set that as well. I did:

My iPhone regularily goes over capacity because it stores, or tries to store, too many photos/videos from iCloud on the device.
How can I delete photos from the iPhone (but not generally from iCloud/Photostream). How can set the maximum capacity of iCloud photos to be downloaded to iPhone? (I am searching for a setting like "keep the last 2GB of photos/videos from iCloud/Photostream, but not more than that. I know how to turn iCloud off in total, but that is not what I would prefer to do, I just would like to set reasonable maximum.)

Generally, I someone could point me to a good tutorial on how local photos vs. iCloud photos vs. Photostream are supposed to work that would be great as well, because I have many other problem with Apple's system in that regard as well (esp., despite that obviously a lot of space is taken up by photos/videos on my device, my iPhone still downloads recent photos/videos over 3G... I also have the problem that all photos appear double if I try to copy to my Mac with ImageCapture or iPhoto, but there is only a single copy (no HDR, burst or the like) when seen with the Photos.app of the iPhone itself... I came to believe that Apple's photo system is somewhere between counterintuitive and plainly not working... (/rant off) )

Hi,
Setting row and height is for layout purposes and not for the limiting of text in a TextEdit UI Element.
To ensure that the Text Exit has only 40 characters in 04s - you can do as Alka has suggested.
For doing the same in CE 7.1 - you can use the onChange Action and write code inside that method to limit the number of characters.
I would suggest that you use IWDMessageManager to show a message in the MessageTray whenever the user goes over the limit of 40 characters - rather than accept the whole text and then show some sort of popup.
