How to Setup RAID 0 on K9A2 Platinum using SATA 5&6 Promise Controller

Setup:
MSI K9A2 Platinum
2 x Sapphire 3870 HD in Crossfire Mode
2 x 500 GB WD Caviar Hard drives ( I want to put these in RAID 0)
Pioneer 115DBK DVD Burner
LITEON BD/DVD Player SATA
Phenom 9850
GSKILL 4 GB 1066
Antec P182 Case
Rosewill 850 W Power Supply
Windows Vista 64 bit
I am trying to set the RAID up on the PROMISE SATA ports 5&6.  I have enabled the additional RAID controller in the BIOS and set the SATA controller to RAID.  One drive shows up as JBOD and I can set the other to RAID 0 in the Fast Track utility.  What do I need to do to change the JBOD to RAID?  I'm sure its showing that I am a newbie at this and first RAID attempt.  It's a new setup so I don't mind having to re-load VISTA.
Additionally - I cannot get the IDE DVD burner to work.  If there is any obvious fix for this I'd appreciate input.  The SATA BD Player works just fine.
Thanks for any advice!

Sorry, my explanation seems to be too short... some remarks:
- Yes, you need to go to the Promnise Setup prgram like you say;
- Yes, you have to delete the JBOD-array, but you also need to delete the RAID-0 array. Both drives  become available now to setup RAID.
- Make a new striping (0) array and select both drives to use -> make array and reboot.
- go into bios and select the RAID-0 array as second boot device and your DVD/CD as first boot device (for now);
- reboot and boot off the Vista Setup CD/DVD.
- Wait until Vista asks to select the drive to install to. It will show you the RAID-array or it will show you nothing. If it shows you noting (and I bet it won't ), then choose to manually install a driver. Now, you can select the Promise driver to use. Vista will load it and recognize your RAID array. Select the array and tell Vista to install.
- Now start hoping that it will work out!
Good luck!!

I'm trying to setup a IPSec tunnel and VoIP for the Cisco SRP527W-K9-G5 but all I find are examples using the cisco ios which this model doesn't support. I'm using the web interface to the router and there is no examples to follow.
There is no manual, the online help is not very helpful either.
I've tried going to the "Voice" tab but could not figure out where to put the SIP or the phone number.
And is there any examples, manual or anything that shows how to create a ipsec tunnel using the srp527w's web interface?

    Hey,
Thanks a ton for posting this out here. I am sure it will be helpful for people trying this out.

  • How to setup a T3 connection for use in weblogic

When I try to make a t3 connection using the existing http port that I have, I get the following exception
Error message :javax.naming.CommunicationException [Root exception is java.net.ConnectException: t3://srvr:7092: Bootstrap unable to get a t3 connection to srvr/11.16.8.10]
    How do I setup a T3 connection
    Thanks

    Hi,
Is the above phenomenon right? How can I know the tip connection
is established? Shouldn't it display 'Login' after it display 'connected'?
To display login at the tip connection you can do one of the following.
    1. remove the keyboard and reboot with a tip connection.
    2. at ok> set the output-device input-device as ttya
    setenv output-device ttya
    setenv input-device ttya
    reset.
Note: the same can be done from a teminal/console using eeprom command.(man eeprom)
To get back the display and keyboard access during bootup
you will have to reset input/output device values back to the default values
    setenv output-device display
    setenv input-device keyboard
    3. Add the following to the /etc/inittab file
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    c5:234:respawn:/usr/lib/saf/ttymon -g -h -p "`uname -n` ttya login: " -T sun -d /dev/ttya -l console -m ldterm,ttcompat
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Please save the original copy ..
"init q " (to make the inittab file to be read again)
    4. using admintool -->Browse->Serial ports->Select ttya->Service Enable->Ok->Exit.
For KSLD setting the output-device and input-device is the best option.
KSLD is EOL (End of Life) so product support will not be available.

  • 955X Platinum - use SATA as IDE or RAID ?

    Hello everyone,
I just received my new MSI 955X Platinum motherboard today. The boot-up screen looks quite horrible! Is there any way to change it?
Now, I want to install Windows XP on my WD 36GB SATA 10,000 RPM hard drive. What will give me optimal performance - setting the SATA in IDE  mode or in RAID mode ? From what I understand, setting it as an IDE HDD does not need the RAID driver floppy during the intial stages of Windows XP setup. RAID mode will require the RAID driver floppy.
Also, can the VIA SATA controller be mapped as IDE as well ?
    Thanks for your time.
    Regards,
    Kamran

Yes, you can disable the boot up screen in the BIOS. But if you thought of changing it to something else, hmm you must hack the BIOS code, which I don't recommend.
1 SATA drive? definitely set as IDE. RAID is for stacking up multiple HDDs together as a single logical drive.

  • MSI Z87-GD65 How to setup raid 0 before OS install

    Hi,
I am wanting to have my 2 SSDs in a raid 0 configuration and then install windows 8 on that. How do i go about doing this? I can't find the raid bios menu at all.
    Thanks

    Enter BIOS and go to:
Settings\Advanced\Integrated Peripherals - Change SATA mode to RAID, then reboot and enter BIOS again.
    Go to:
    Settings\Advanced\Intel Rapid Storage Technology
Set up your RAID drives from there, reboot, install OS.
This is assuming UEFI installation. If you are using legacy you will need to enter the Raid bios during boot after enabling Raid.

  • How to setup a live USB stick using the latest archlinux 201405

Hello, long time reader, first time poster.  I recently purchased a new computer, and I would like to setup arch linux as host OS, so I can see if I could build a LFS system from the Arch Linux live USB drive.  When I run the following command "dd if=/arch.iso of=/dev/myDisk" it successfully creates a USB drive that is bootable on the new computer (it's using EFI) and the system boots into a shell prompt.  However, when running the above command, my host OS (OS X) on my other computer doesn't recognize the drive, so I can add files or do anything with the remaining 15.5GB of storage on the drive.
I came across this document, => https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/US … tion_Media which I must say is very well documented (kudos).  So I mounted the Arch_Linux_2014.05 ISO and copied the files to freshly formatted (FAT 32) USB drive, and inserted into the new computer, and it see's the EFI boot option, when I hold down the "option" key when the computer boots up (that's good).  However, it doesn't bootstrap the Linux kernel or the Arch Linux base system for that matter.
I came across this forum post, => https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=135046 where a member was discussing editing some files to get his USB drive to boot.  I wasn't sure if this forum thread was still relative as it a couple years old.
Finally, the reason I prefer the mounting of the ISO, and copying the files is so that 1) my host OS on my old computer (OS X) can read the USB drive. 2) I can add files to the USB drive without having it locked down.
Thanks for reading, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

After fooling around with the grub.cfg I finally got it to boot.
The menu entries I added to the grub.cfg look like the following,
    menuentry "[loopback]arch_201405.iso" {
    set isofile="arch.iso"
    loopback loop (hd0,1)/$isofile
    linux (loop)/arch/boot/x86_64/vmlinuz archisolabel=ARCH_201405 img_dev=/dev/sda1 img_loop=$isofile earlymodules=loop
    initrd (loop)/arch/boot/x86_64/archiso.img
    menuentry "[loopback]arch_2014.04.01-dual.iso" {
    set isofile="archlinux-2014.04.01-dual.iso"
    loopback loop (hd0,1)/$isofile
    linux (loop)/arch/boot/x86_64/vmlinuz archisolabel=ARCH_201404 img_dev=/dev/sdc1 img_loop=$isofile earlymodules=loop
    initrd (loop)/arch/boot/x86_64/archiso.img
I added the archlinux-2014.04.01-dual.iso file to the USB flash drive because apparently there is a bug with the 201405 version of archlinux using fat32 and booting into a live environment, https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/40217

  • How to setup LR 4.2 to use forward/reverse mouse buttons

I recently had to reinstall LR 4.2 due to a hard drive failure. Previously, I could cycle through my photos by using the forward or reverse buttons on the side ofmy Microsoft mouse. Now I cannot. How can I get LR to respond again? I have set the mouse to 'enable program specific settings',  but it did not help and I do not think I had to do this step in the past. Thanks.

After further inspection of the Microsoft mouse settings in the control panel, I found that each button can be programmed to a keystroke. I just made the front side button the right arrow key and the rear button the left arrow key. It works as it should now to cycle through the images in the filmstrip and the Grid view.

  • KA92 Platinum - JBOD SATA - Vista 64 - Promise RAID

I just setup a new machine with the KA92 Platinum and almost everything is running perfectly excluding the 2 750GB SATA 3.0gb drives I have installed on the Promise SATA ports.
Configuration - (Second RAID enabled, onboard ATA set to IDE, 750's individual JBOD)
SATA Port #1 - WD VelociRaptor 300GB system drive
    SATA Port #2 - DVDRW
    SATA Port #3 - BRD\DVDRW
SATA Port #4 - Case eSATA copnnection
Promise SATA Port #1 - Samsung 750 SATAII
Promise SATA Port #2 - Samsung 750 SATAII
The issue is that although the Devicer Manager recognizes the 2 drives () and they are visible in Disk Management, I cant create a new volume on either of them. As soon as I try to create a volume Windows recognizes a new device and tries to install a driver which it cant find.
I tried removing the Promise Drives and Changing the ATA to RAID but that just caused BSOD until I reset it.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks

Regrettably that last idea didn't work for me :(  I formatted the two drives then re-connected the two drives and enabled the promise raid without configuring the discs into an array, booted into Windows and the drives didn't show up anywhere, I then added them to JBOD in promise config (which deletes the boot info) and started into Windows with the results I was experiencing before. To be honest, at this point Ive pretty much given up on the Promise ports ever working for me, at least with SATA drives, perhaps SAS drive would have better luck but I'm not going to spend the money to find out, it looks like an external eSata setup for me... I just wish these were regular Sata ports rather than promise, life would have been sooooo much easier, and cheaper in the end.... Thanks again everyone!

  • Using SATA Boot Drive & Promise UATA Card

I recently decided to put an extra 2, 200 gb hard drives into my system using a PCI ATA Controller Card.  The only problem I have doing this is that my SATA Boot drives won't boot.  The system Bios keeps trying to boot from the PCI Hard drives.  Is there anything I can do to fix this or am I pretty much SOL and should just buy a K8T800?  Specs are listed below.
    MSI K7N2D-ILSR
    Athlon XP 2500
    2x256 PC3200 CL 2.0
    NVidia 5700 Ultra 128

your out of luck unless msi sort the bios out, which i dout will happen
its a shame as other older boards have multiple boot options,ie onboard raid or a card

  • K9A2 Platinum Cannot Use RAID and PCI IDE card [SOLVED]

    Hello,
I am trying to do the following set-up on my K9A2 Platinum, using a Phenom 9600 processor:
    - 2xSATA2 250GB Seagate drives on Promise T3 SATA controller (to be used as RAID 1 devices)
    - 1xSATA DVD-RW on Sb600
    - 2xIDE DVD-RW on onboard IDE
    - One PCI HiPoint RocketRAID ATA100 card (operating in IDE mode) on PCI slot 2 with 1xIDE 40GB hard disk (my Linux partition)
On the BIOS I have enabled the Extra RAID function, in order to enable Promise to work as RAID.
    The system POSTs as follows:
    - Initial detection (CPU, RAM e.tc)
    - RocketRAID gets initialized and detects the IDE disk attached (40GB)
    - Promise RAID tries to detect the disks (the RAID array) and the whole system hangs.
I've tried to relocate the two SATA hard disks to the SB600 controller (SATA 1&2 ports), but the same thing happens (after changing the BIOS to disable extra RAID function and enable RAID mode on onboard SATA SB600). The only way to POST the machine, is to remove the RocketRAID PCI card, but this way I can no longer boot my Linux disk.
Using BIOS 1.2 and 1.3beta 2 (sent to me by MSI support).
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the replies.
Now, I'm going to surprise you: I managed to make both cards (the Promise and HighPoint) work together! Read how...
Somehow, I got the impression that the problems I had were either caused by the BIOS or the hard disks (the SATA ones). I flashed the motherboard back to the official 1.2, doing a complete BIOS reset (removed the battery) and tried again without the RocketRAID card installed. This time, the Promise BIOS (which btw is an earlier version from the one the 1.3b2 BIOS had) reported that the one SATA drive was malfunctioning (and it was a sealed brand-new Seagate). Removed the drive, installed it on SB600 and SeaTools indeed reported that it was failing (it didn't manage to pass even the quick test...).
Now I was curious: could it be that this - together with the beta BIOS - was the cause of my problems? I installed the other SATA disk to Promise T3 (the red socket) and the controller detected it, but all I could do is to set it up as a RAID 0 array (which pretty much does nothing). Next, I installed the RocketRAID also together with the IDE Linux disk and the system detected both disks; I can boot Linux fine and enter both the RocketRAID BIOS and Promise T3 BIOS. I can delete and recreate the array in Promise T3 as I please, but due to the fact that I only have one SATA disk now, I get limited options (RAID 0 and JBOD).
Is it safe to assume that since the Promise BIOS is working with the RocketRAID installed, that my SATA RAID controller is working?
Tomorrow, I shall return the SATA drive to the store I bought it and get a replacement, so that I can set up my RAID 1.
The plan is to have Linux boot from the IDE (I've never managed to set up a Linux disk to boot from RAID) where Windows Server 2003 will boot from RAID.
Will keep you posted about the progress I make.
BTW Bas, I'm sorry I couldn't make out much of your brainstorming
Regarding the Promise controller: the board has a Promise chip right above the SATA ports, which has the number 42819 on it. I can also verify that both SB600 RAID and Promise T3 RAID have EXACTLY the same BIOS menu interface (the only differences are the texts "ATi SB600" and "Promise T3" on the menus, plus that the SB600 has also an option to securely erase the drives which Promise does not have). Are you suggesting that the SB600 RAID is actually the Promise T3? I do not know if it would be possible to have BOTH RAID controllers (SB600 and T3) working at the same time (I do not have enough disks to try...).

  • OpenGL games fps going down after install Windows on RAID 0 on K9A2 Platinum

    Hello .
    Description of problem :
The problem was showed right after installations Windows on RAID 0.
When I had one HDD, the problem was not.
The problem was showed on both integrated RAID controllers (both on SB600 and on Promise T3).
When I play games (just games in OpenGL!!! for example conter-strike 1.6, Quake3, on Direct3D such problem is not present), and simultaneously I copy (or other users on FTP:)) a plenty of small files, game frames per second going down.
If to stop copying in current of minute, frames per seconds goung up.
If in 2-3 minutes, will help only restart game.

    Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit
I have established last version Dual Core Optimizer.
Tried to clean in boot.ini a key /usepmtimer and reboot has helped nothing.
The similar problem was on absolutely another motherboard (Biostar nForce570SLI) and hdd (Hitachi 80GB) with the same processor and Windows. But , installation Dual Сore Optimizer and a key/userpmtimer has helped.
    What reasons of a problem?
    How to eliminate a problem?
In advance thanks for the answer.

    Oops, missed the PSU....

But why when copying to stop in 3-4 minutes, game fps not going up.
In fact after copying files system resources are not used, also reading and writing from a disk does not occur.
I understand that at copying Soft-RAID use some system resources. But when system resources not use game fps not going up.
    Will help only restart game!!!

See that? You went from single disk to RAID and then the problem started...... I guess it's not very hard to conclude that one is related to the other. Just try to use single disk again an and see what happens.
Then: did you have two disks installed before going to RAID-0? Or did you add one disk for that? If so, then your PSU may be the troublemaker, not providing enough juice to feed all devices.
About your English: it is fine, don't worry. We do not mind, as long as it looks like English and we can understand it and as long as there's no MSN-crap in it... so, you are doing fine.

  • How to setup a sound bar on LED TV 42SL417U

So I've been trying to figure out how to setup a sound bar that uses AUX Left and Right cables onto my LED TV 42SL417U. I've been trying to connect the cables into every possible port on the TV and nothing works. What do I do???

    Hi -
What make/model of sound bar are you trying to connect?
The only "outputs" for sound to an external device from this TV are the Optical and HDMI connections. Page 18 and 19 of the Owners Manual talk about connecting to an external audio source.
    Hope this helps.
