How to share files from iCloud Drive

Hey guys!
So here is the story:
Up until now, I have been using MS OneDrive (formerly Sky Drive) to store files, images and videos. The very simple reason is because Facebook shreds the quality into pieces. So instead of sharing pictures and albums by uploading them to Facebook, I used OneDrive and sent the link to my friends, or just posted the link on my timeline. With the wake of iCloud Drive I was hoping I could finally migrate to iCloud, but after uploading and sorting my files from OneDrive to iCloud, I can't find a link or option to share these folders, set permissions and similar stuff OneDrive already has.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Bluerain12ya

I agree. There should be an option for sharing individual folders and not the entire iCD... In OneDrive, I can share a folder with someone and set permissions to either let him view the files only, or also allow them to add/remove/modify files...
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad iCloud now supports all file-types and folders, but right now it's more of a personal locker and less of a cloud I understand people might upload copyrighted material, but that shouldn't cripple functionality.

  • Can't open files from iCloud Drive on Mac

    Hi,
Can't open file from iCloud Drive on my MacBook Air (OS X 10.10.1).
I created new file (in Numbers for example). Then Numbers->File->Open->iCloud Drive->my_file.numbers and it says "Can't open file my_file.numbers".
I can preview the file by pressing Space, but openning from application and double-click on it doesn't work.
Files that were created earlear also not opened.
Does anybody know how to solve this problem? thanks.

    Using smtp.mail.me.com - also tried smtp.me.com
    SSL yes
    port 587
    SMTP Authentification Yes
Security SLS/TLS - also tried STARTTLS
User full **@me.com email address - also tried user name without @me.com
I have spoken to apple support this afternoon and we tried the variations shown above.
Support told me to wait for a day and try again!
After the iCloud authentication problem last night I changed all my passwords I wonder if there is an SMTP problem at me.com perhaps not reading the updated passwords?
I'll try and use the old passwords later.

unless you're sharing very large files, speed will be more or less the same using any of the above connections.

you can also use firewire Target Disk Mode.

  • How do I email files from icloud drive on an iPhone?

I have few PDF files saved on icloud drive through my mac. I want to access those files on my iPhone and email them to others. How do i do that?
Presently I am using google drive and it allows me to email my files from google drive on an iphone.

This happens to me quite often on my iPhone5, and my iPad. I find it the most helpful to go under settings and reset to factory everything. SEtting> general> erase all content and settings.
Please make sure you do a back up before you do this!!!!!
You'll be basically wiping the phone clean and when the phone resets, reset from back up.
I've also found that when I go under voicemail and view deleted voicemails to delete all of them. Delete text messages that you no longer need to keep. Hope this helps.

I don't think there is a way to specify how to open a file of
    NO type.
    Why not rename them?

  • Retrieving a lost file from iCloud drive

I was saving files from documents folder onto iCloud drive and deleted other files in iCloud drive in the process, which i need to get back. Is there a way to retrieve the file i had saved in iCloud drive which is now gone.  I don't have time machine set up, New laptop.

If you did not make a backup the files and you deleted them from iCloud Drive, they are gone, unless you did not yet empty the Tras on your Mac. Have you checked the Trash in the Dock?
If you deleted them completely, you can only try data recovery software like Disk Drill, but that will be expensive.
If you are syncing another Mac with iCloud, they documents may still be on this Mac, if it has not been connected to the Internet and the changes had not yet been synced to that Mac.

  • How do I retrieve my files from iCloud Drive?

I am on Mountain Lion because my mid-2007 can't upgrade to Mavericks. Apple upgraded the iWork Apps so that they only work in the new iCloud Drive, but the new iCloud drive is only available if you are in Mavericks or later - an older version for Mavericks and a newer version for Yosemite. It seems that I have lost access to all my files overnight.

Why can't you upgrade? All Mountain lion Macs are compatible for upgrade to Mavericks or Yosemite (By the way, iCloud Drive is a Yosemite only feature).

  • How to share files on 2nd drive in Mac Mini, not 1st

I am totally new to Apple's Server software so I may have some very obvious questions.
I just bought the latest Mac Mini server and want my team to all share files on the second 500GB hard drive. When a user connects to the server (from the side menu under "Shared") they see "Groups" "Public" and "Users" - and these 3 directories are on the primary drive in the Mac Mini.
I'd like to just have all the media files they're creating to be stored on the 2nd 500GB drive.
Can anyone tell me how to set this up?
    Thanks for the help!
    Brian,.

    Hello Brian -
I'm relatively new to Snow Leopard Server, but these forums have been a great great help so I am keen to help others when I can!
This is relatively straightforward to do.
    1) Make a directory on the second drive (This can be done using the Sharing Pane of Server Admin if you wish, or through SSH / Screen Sharing) - call it Data or something similar.
    2) In Server Admin make a share for your new folder. I'd suggest making it automount and fill in the options accordingly.
    3) Check the permissions are correct and amend if necessary - again through Server Admin
    Done
Your users will now be able to connect to the server with their logon credentials and see the new share, which of course is stored on the second drive.
Make sure you've got backups configured somehow (Time Machine maybe?)
    Hope this helps.

If the PDF is in iCloud Drive, you have to use an iCloud Drive compatible app that can open PDF files, such as Documents 5 by Readdle.

  • How to share files in icloud

Is it possible to share files (kenote, numbers, etc...) through iCloud with other people....? How?

You can't share that kind of files through iCloud because iCloud is a service that only you can access to, unless you give your account information to the person you want to share the files with.
There are many ways to share a file. You can always e-mail your file to the other person or if the other person has a Mac, you can use AirDrop.
You can find AirDrop on Finder. To use AirDrop you just have to drag the file you want to share into the other Mac user icon and that's it!
    Hope it helped.

  • How to share files from iMac to MacBook Pro thru USB

I would like to network my new MacBook pro to my iMac with a USB connection. I want to transfer files from my iMac to the MacBook. I have the cable connected, but don't know how to have the two computers "link".
    Please advise.

When you log into a Mac, no matter from where, you must log in as a user on that Mac (although you can log in as guest, if the sharing preferences are set correctly).
So, when you try to connect to one or the other Mac, are you logging in as a user on that Mac? Does that user have access to the files you are trying to share?
If you have a userA on MacA and userB on MacB, If you try to connect to MacA from B, you must log in using credentials of userA. Then, you'll have access to anything userA has access to.
You can also create Sharing Only users in the Sharing Preferences when you share out a folder. Just select New Person when you add people to the sharing list. You can then log into that Mac with that username and password and it will give you access to the folders allowed for that user.

  • How to share calendar from icloud to someone

I was wondering how to share your calendar schedule to someone.

    at www.iCloud.com
You sign in, click the calendar icon,
in the list of calendar's on the left
-> you should see a faint icon to the right of the calendar name.
    click that,
type the email address of the user you want to share with,
and whether you let them just View or View and Edit.
    Hope this helps!
