How to show cropped dimensions while cropping?

I often crop to specific dimensions. I made a preset with my preferred ratio and then move the corner handle bar. With develop view options set to show the cropped dimensions, I can see the dimensions in pixels, but it does not update while I move the cropping handles. It only does if I click "i" three times to cycle through the info overlay.
Any tip or is this something to go on the wishlist for LR3?

Realtime updating of the crop dimensions is not supported. If you really believe that it would be beneficial then submit a feature request.

    Now that Lightroom gets really stable and powerful, maybe we have a better chance to get some of the "smaller issues" resolved as well?
    One feature which would interest me would be indication of the cropped size while performing the cropping. Lightroom could also show always the percentage of lost or ignored pixels by the crop as a rough measure of resulting "image resolution."
    With posting in web in mind, I found on many occasions that I would like to have one more feature: I would like to set for the crop the
    "desired image size" as I chose for the posting, say 1200x800 pixels, and not allow the crop to select a smaller area.
    Now its up to "try and error" in such cases. Once the crop is off, Lightroom shows the cropped area if selected so, and so user can see if the crop still encompasses at least the desired image size.

    There is a very simple reason that has been stated several times. You are not editing photos, you are making references to images through a database - its all ones and zeros with colours and hues. It is at the export stage you tell lightroom what crop you want. There is no point telling lightroom to crop 800 by 600 in the develop module (though I do see the reason for the request).
    If you did specify 800 by 600, the crop would be a small proportion of a 4000 by 3000 pixel chip image ,so you would only get a tiny portion of the picture, then what?
    How do you get more of the picture in the crop dimensions?
    You scale it up by dragging the crop box having the constraints in the ratio of 800 by 600..... ( back to the original way LR uses....)
    Wanting emperical 800 by 600 or 1200 by 800 then scaling up is 2 step process where Adobe sussed that one in the beta by saying u"se aspect rations and then use the all (powerful but ugly) export dialog."
    Its has actually been thought out plenty more so "human factors mis-engineering that would make microsoft proud" kind of noise is probably incorrect.
    There are some clever and overworked people battling with Lightroom . Bibble 5 was promised 6 momths ago..... still waiting for their 88% improvement in speed.......... but LR2.3 is not there yet
    If you want a crop of certain "dimensions" enter them into the x and y spaces in the crop options and you will have 800 by 600 or 1200 by 800.
    Then simply set up a batch export using the options long edge... compresssion %.... All these NEED to be entered for exporting at least once - even if you go Export as Previous.
    that is my intrepretation of why Adobe decided not to give absolute crops, I'm sure if Adobe did comment on these forums a little more, they would explain more succintly, eloquently but a very similar explanation as mine is above.

  • Show pixel dimensions during crop

    Good Morning,
    I need to be able to see the pixel dimensions while I'm cropping.  I clicked on the "Info" pallet and it shows this in inches, however, I didn't see how to change it to pixels.  For some website work I need to set images to specific pixel sizes and yet be able to move around the image to crop where I need at these dimensions.
    I also did a search here and in PS help - nothing found.
    Thanks for your help,
    Captain 1854

    Set the Mouse co-ordinates to pixels in the drop-down menu in the Info palette.

  • CS5 - how do I view pixels while cropping?

    Hello,
    Can someone please tell me what setting(s) to change so I can view the pixel dimensions I'm selecting while cropping? I've been searching online, and looking around in the settings and cannot find how to do this. I really think this should be a default setting.
    Thank you for any help.

    Well, that functionality is there in CS6.  It would be strange if they had removed that feature in CS5, but I can't check that right now because I don't have CS5 installed on my two working desktop machines in front of me, though I do have Photoshop versions 7.x through 11.x and then version 11.0.5 (CS6).
    In a few hours I can check CS5 on my laptop.
    In the mean time, explore all Preferences and the options in the Option Bar, because that feature can be toggled on and off in CS6, and that could be the case in CS5.
    I'll report back if I find it.

  • How can I keep the same dimensions while cropping in Preview?

    I know how to crop in Preview.  What I'm trying to do is crop a specific area of a picture while keeping the pictures original 8.5 x 11 aspect ratio.  Is there a way to automatically keep this aspect ratio instead of having to maually guess?  I always end up with a cropped picture that's slightly too tall or too wide.
    Thanks for your help.

    Nor, surprisingly will iPhoto, unless the option has been added in '11.
    Photoshop Elements will, so will Graphic Converter (with greater flexibility). You require the 'scale' function which may be a subset of 'resize'.

  • Show pixel dimensions when cropping

    The current crop tool allows one to specify the aspect ratio of a crop. It would be useful (to me, at least) to have a display of the actual pixel dimensions of the resulting crop. I can guess by eye, but sometimes I want to be sure that I do not go below some size.

    Yeah, there are LOTS of ways the Crop Tool could be improved, but here it is almost 2011 and LR3+ and nothing has changed since users started complaining back in 2007.
    You'll notice that this was from very few users (1, in this thread).  Most people just don't find a need for this.
    Cropping while zoomed in is a much more popular request.

  • How to show processing screen while the submitted request is in progress?

    Hi SIM Experts,
    I have couple of requirements in SIM7.1.1.9, i.e.
    1. Whenever i submit a request, i need to show a *'Processing Screen'* (i.e. form indicating that my request is in progress) when my request is in progress.
    2. Once my request is completed, i need to switch back from *'Processing Screen'* to form from where request has been submitted.
    For Example:
    1. When i click on *'Search'* with some search criteria in say *'Search Users Form'*, system will take some time to fetch the search results. During this processing time, i need to show a *'Processing Screen'* to the end user.
    2. Once *'Search Users Form'* is ready with its search results, i need to switch back from *'Processing Screen'* to *'Search Users Form'*.
    I feel challenge is keeping track on the submitted request and switching back to the requested page.
    FYI, i was trying to implement this using SIM7.1.1.9 Workflows & Forms and couldn't able to get a solution.
    Any help makes my tasks to move ahead. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Did you managed to solve the issue? I am into the same issue.
    The same question..Did you got any answer for this?
    How to use <div id='processing' --- --- ----> tag info in IDM Form?
    What I did so far is..
    I defined a js function and copied to /includes folder and updated commonScripts.jsp to include the js function which I added.The following is the js function I am using (I googled it and got this function)
    +function showLoad() {+
    var num = 0;
    var tim;
    var txt = "Loading, please wait ........";
    document.getElementById("a").innerHTML = txt;
    num +;+
    +if (num == 30) {  // erase after 5 seconds, adjust to suit+
    document.getElementById("a").style.display="none";
    window.clearTimeout(tim);
    +}+
    +else {+
    tim = window.setTimeout("showLoad()", 1000);
    +}+
    +}+
    On the Button OnClick property I mentioned showLoad() function, but for some reason I am getting the following error..
    getElementById() is null or not an object
    I think the getElementById() is expecting a required parameter but I am not sure how we can pass that ID from the IdM form.
    Please let us know how did you resolved the issue.
    Thanks in advance.

  • How do you create border in cropped clips in FCP?

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a black border in FCP 6 on a clip that has been cropped left and right, but because the border is only created on the full frame I can only see it on the top and bottom, while the rest of the border is cropped too.
    I thought it would be quite simple but it is driving me mad, I have tried crearing masks but it is quite difficult to keep the same width in all the different clips also because they are all unequally cropped too!
    If you can shed some light I will appreciate!
    Enrique

    you need to add a color solid or slug behind the cropped clip, and crop it similarly so as to display a border ... or, if you want, you could use my free Simple Crop plugin which (or similar) which you can use to crop the image (rather than the Motion tab crop controls)

  • Accidentally boosted DPI while cropping an image - affect on quality?

    Hi,
    While cropping some of my jpeg images (orginally 300 dpi) I didn't pay attention to some of the settings and the dpi has now been boosted to 800. Does this have any affect at all on the image quality? I had made other changes too so don't want to start all over again with the original files. I changed one image back to the original 300 dpi and it does not seem to appear different in any way to the 800 dpi image. Sorry if this is a silly question, I'm quite new to all of this. Just want to be sure that my files will have exactly the same quality even with the changed dpi.
    Thanks!
    Chris

    Its hard to guess. Evert time you interpolate an image you wind up with a completely new image.  The number of pixels you have for and image changes.   Going from a large number to a smaller number usually works better then increasing the number of pixels. Usually and your decreasing the number of pixels so the image fits on a low resolution display.  Your basically throwing  away detail for you have more then the display can display at once.  When you print and do not have a sufficient  amount of pixels to print a high resolution print you lack detail so up sample and interpolate the pixels you have a dream up details you lack.
    The quality change depends the quality of the original pixels on the output device the size the physical image will be a the delta change in the number of pixels.  If you  throw away too much detail or make up most of the image detail the image quality is low.
    If you start with a 8MP camera portrait  of a friend crop their right eye out which will be a small percentage of you 8MP and set the crop to be a 16x20 print at 300 the image will be very soft for you made up most of the output pixels.
    On the other side of the coin is you started with a 1GP stitch image of Manhattan crop it to an 20x16  aspect ratio image retaining all the image you can ans set 300DPI  you will have a high quality image.

  • How can I modify the Fit, Crop, or Ken Burns effect for the entire movie?

    How can I modify the Fit, Crop, or Ken Burns effect for the entire movie? I've been having to go through them all individually which takes forever.

    You could try  Edit > Select All  then click on the crop button and change the setting from Ken Burns to Fit.
    I find that this only works if you do not have the Automatic Cross Dissolve transitions in place.
    If you do, File > Project Theme and uncheck the transitions and remove them.
    After you have changed from Ken Burns to Fit, you can re-apply them.
    Easiest way in future is to set up your project (File > Project Properties) before you start adding photos.
