How to show mail count in smart mailbox?

I have a smart mailbox that displays messages from a specific local folder/mailbox for the current day.  The counter next to this smart mailbox is only for unread messages.  Is there a way to change the counter so it displays for all messages in the current day (read and unread)?

It works on a new install on a new computer... so its obviously from the upgrade... it happens on mine as you have described... but setup a new computer for a client and they got message counts on their smart folders...

  • How can I convert Mail rules into smart mailboxes

I recently posted a report about faults in mail rules that move messages to mailboxes automatically. In light of this, I thought about converting my rules into smart mailboxes. I started, but looked at the number of rules that I have and thought 'there must be an easier way!'
What I'm after is a script, or hints as to how to write a script, that will iterate over all my mailbox rules and add new smart mailboxes. I expect that the Mail program might provide some programatic interface for this, but don't know where to start looking.
Hoping that someone can help me.
    Regards, Andy

Well, if coding help is what you want then this isn't the place to ask. The Applescript and Unix forums are here. These are better places to ask about programming.
If you do a Google search on "applescript" you should find the two or three major sites for finding prepared Applescripts or Automator actions, although I don't recall ever seeing one for your intended use. But it can't hurt to look. You'll also find the link to the Applescript language documentation site, but you will also need to examine Mail's provided Applescript programming facilities.
Bash programming manuals abound although nothing necessarily specific to the Mac. OS X implements a reasonably standard Unix implementation of the various supported shell environments. Google searching for "bash tutorial" or programming guides will yield lots of resources.

  • Mail Rules vs Smart Mailbox

What is the difference between say making a rule in email that puts all your emails from a person in a mailbox called "Friend" vs creating a smart mailbox which puts all emails from that friend into a smart mailbox called "Friend"...
    Thank you

Just as Barney said... A Smart Mailbox is just like having a permanent search going on. Say if you type in Johnny Appleseed in the search box of the Mail app in the upper right corner. Then all mail from JA will be visible. Make a Smart Mailbox to show all mails from JA, then that Smart Mailbox is doing that same search for you.
As for deleting, yes. If you delete a message from the Smart Mailbox, then you are deleting it from wherever it was. If it was in the Inbox, then it will be deleted. Again, simply because it's just a "Search box".

  • Mail folders and smart mailbox

Can someone tell me what the difference is between a regular mail folder and a smart mailbox?
I made a lot of mail folders under "on my mac" and I just found that I can make a smart mailbox. How are they different?
When do you use one and not the other?
    Thanks, Susan

a smart mailbox is not a regular folder. it's a saved search. you do a search and save the search parameters so you can repeat the search quickly. that's what a smart mailbox is. no actual messages are moved anywhere when you make a smart mailbox.

  • Upgraded from 10.4.11 to 10.5.8 and lost mail in several Smart Mailboxes

I upgraded from 10.4.11 to 10.5.8. Several of my Smart Mail Boxes lost all email content but others remained in tact. Now the ones that lost content don't accept emails that meet the criteria for the Smart Box.
Anyone have that experience? Any ideas on recapturing? I didn't back up my mail prior to upgrade.

    Welcome to the Discussion,
Smart Mailboxes are only virtual mailboxes, and contain nothing -- they are the product of a search list, and messages must stay in their original mailboxes. All the messages will still in the originating mailboxes, unless something else you did impacted those actual mailboxes, so you should be able to rewrite the definitions for these Smart Mailboxes.

  • Mail: search and smart mailboxes stopped working

    Hi folks,
In mail the search and smart mailboxes have stopped working.  I have a hunch it's something to do with iCloud as my partner is now logged onto iCloud using iTunes etc. Can you help?

My accounts are POP. But I have managed to fix the problem. When you mentioned Spotlight, I went into System Preferences thinking I may had accidentally turn off emails as a search option in Spotlight. It was on, but I turned it OFF and then ON again, and now search works in mail as usual. And my Smart Mailboxes too.
    It's one of those things
    Thanks for your help

  • Find mail sent today smart mailbox

How do I make a smart mailbox for emails sent today? I see the find parameter of received today, but nothing for sent today.

This worked for me. You may have to set up something to empty the box daily.

  • How do I get my old smart mailboxes back?, annoyingly disappeared after an software upgrade overnight!

My smart mailboxes with a lot of important info have disappeared following a software update, im not terribly computer literate so a step by step answer would be enormously helpful!

Could you give some examples of a smart folder you might have? It sounds like you had a lot.
    To get you started...
VIPs are smart folders for a person.  It's a quick option to view the emails from a person.
If you click on a persons's name in an email you'll see a down arrow. Select Add to VIP.
You can put contacts in groups. For example, friends, family, classmates, team members etc.  Groups are created in Contacts.app.
Create a smart folder for a group:
Sender is member of group > family
Date Received is Today/This Week (example of additional criteria)
My favorite smart folder is named Unread Today.
    Message is unread
    Date Received is > Today
Tip: Once you create a smart folder, take a screen shot so you can recreate it in the future. I also recommend that you setup Time Machine backups.
    Command-Shift-3 takes the entire screen
Command-Shift-4 takes a portion of the screen. <--use this one
    Hope this helps!

  • How do I restore a deleted smart mailbox OS 10.6?

I'd like to restore a deleted smart mailbox in OS 10.6 - I have a Time Machine back-up, can I find the smart mailbox there?

I would also prefer the gaelic script, instead of the default latin one.
The tech specs for OS X lists the 18 languages in which the UI is localized:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html
Unfortunately gaelic is not yet among them. You can ask Apple for this here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Putting gaelic at the top of the list in system prefs/language & text/languages cannot affect the OS UI, but will ensure that any app you install which does include a gaelic localization will display that way, and should also make gaelic the the default spell checker (if you install one) and make files sort in gaelic sort order.

  • ICloud Mail replacement for smart mailboxes?

Anyone guide me here on how to have the Mail that is forwarded from my work show in separate organization like I could do in Smart Mail Boxes.  Folders/New Folder and mail rule did not work correctly for me in iCloud mail.  Or is Apple not there yet with something new losing something old?  OS7.2 and iOS5.
    thanks

aside from the rules settings there is nothing to manage. Only "archieve", but that's more of a "to keep" folder .

  • How to show turkish caharacters in smart forms

    Hi  ,
i am unable to show the turkish characters  in my smartform. Please suggest me the character set  that i should be using. Is there any transaction for adding turkish to fontset in samrtstyles.
    My pc supports turkish...
    THanks in advance

    Hi,
There is a number of SAP notes which regard printing the special characters. Look in SAP notes section, and look for "printing turkish" or similar query. There might be fonts designed for Turkish language (similarly, I found the suitable fonts to print cyrillic and latin Serbian).
Once you find the fonts, you have only solved the displaying part- you still need to find the suitable SAP device which can actually send the characters to the printer, in the right format. Look for that too, in the SAP notes section.
    Regards,
    SD.

  • Lost Mail in Smart Mailbox

I tried to edit a Smart Mailbox and lost all my mail in the smart mailbox when I hit the "-" to remove a double entry. The original entry remained and I added another entry and also I reentered the one I had removed. However, nothing now appears in that Smart Mailbox although there are message in the Inbox that meet the criteria.
Is there any way to recover my lost mail in the Smart Mailbox and how do I get the messages into it that are in Inbox?
    Thanks.

You didn't lose the mail by doing this, you understand. A Smart Mailbox is like Smart Folder in Finder. It just shows you all mail that matches a set of requirements.
At this point you just need to think it through and re-enter the Smart Mailbox requirements (being careful about the "that match ALL" and "that match ANY").

  • Using Mail smart mailboxes

I know this sounds a bit silly, but how do I save messages to my smart mailboxes (an idiots guide would be helpfull)
    Thank you in advance

    Hi Stephen
You can't actually save messages in a Smart Mailbox.
Think of a Smart Mailbox as a view (or a filter) of all of your emails, ie your Sent, Inbox, Drafts, Trash, Junk etc.
When you create a Smart Mailbox you set up the filters or criteria that you want to use to screen all of your mail and the emails meeting those criteria "show up" in the Smart Mailbox.
as an example I have set one up with your name
the parameters set would show all the email that either come from "[email protected]" or have the phrase "Smart Mailboxes" in the Subject line.
You can add as many "rules" as you like using the + sign (or remove them ising the - sign) so the filters can be very specific.
Remember the drop down on the second line "Any" or "All" if you set "All" the email would have to have to match all of the parameters.
The example above would show all emails from [email protected] as well as any emails (from anyone) with the phrase "Smart Mailboxes" in the Subject line. If you chose "All" it would only show the emails from [email protected] with "Smart Mailboxes" in the Subject line.
    Hope that helps

  • How to create "Unread Junk" Smart Mailbox?

I am trying to create a Smart Mailbox that will show all of my unread messages that Apple Mail has marked as junk and moved into junk mail folders. It doesn't seem to work.
You can see from the screenshots below that I have unread junk mail, you can also see that I have a smart mailbox set up to show any unread messages in junk mail, but they don't show up. I thought that changing the selected mailbox from the "parent" all inclusive junk mail mailbox to an individual junk mailbox would fix it, but it didn't work. Any ideas how to set this up so I can see my unread junk mail in a smart mailbox?
    Thanks!

I do not use gmail and know next to nothing about it, but you can probably find some help for the two step verification here. You may need to put a password on the app in order for it to work properly.
    http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=two+step+password+gmail&ie=U TF-8&oe=UTF-8
If you do not see that Edit button in the main mail window like I described, then the email account is not IMAP. I'm not familar with gmail, but I think that it can be set up as IMAP. The edit button that you are seeing may be for you to move email to the trash, or to archive your email. Gmail is a little differnt than what I am used to in the way that it works.
    Look for help.

  • Mail: a curiosity about Smart Mailbox

    Hi
as mentioned before, I'm migrating my email from Entourage to Mail and would like to "maintain" some search rules structure. Moving to Mail, I don't find a "parameter/feature" creating searching rules:
When I specify a mailbox to search in (i.e. "Message is in Mailbox"), the search is limited to only this mailbox and not to its "child". This means that if I have a structure like this
    Inbox
    |
    +-- pippo
    +-- pluto
and I specify just Inbox as "Message is in Mailbox", the search is performed only in Inbox and not into Pippo and Pluto. I need this feature because I have to exclude in the search an imported mailbox with a lot of sub-mailbox.
    Thank you for the support
    Daniele

Sounds like you know what you are doing, but just in case...
Smart Mailbox is a virtual view into your inbox and your archive mailbox.  Your description of moved emails still showing up in your smart mailbox makes sense since it doesn't care what maiblox the emails are moved from.  You can add additional rules to filter out inbox vs archive so you only see new messages from those contacts, but I'm guessing you probably already know this (but just checking in case this is easily solvable).
As for the behavior of select all move to archive forcing already archived emails to vanish you are correct that it sounds buggy.
If your email is Gmail they don't treat archives the same way most IMAP email servers work so you may need to investigate further.
If you can set up your smart mailbox to exclude already archived emails you can probably just avoid this issue all together.
    G'luck
