  • How do you do word processing on the iPad is there a word processing App?

How do you do word processing on the iPad is there a word processing App?

It all depends on what I need to use the document for.
When I need to create a text document that I need to share at work I use OnLive Desktop.  This gives me a Windows 7 Desktop with Office 2010 apps on it that I can connect to DropBox. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/onlive-desktop/id490292278?mt=8 or CloudOn https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cloudon/id474025452?mt=8. You have to be connected to a FAST wifi network to use this option.
If I need to create a Word doc on the go I use QuickOffice Pro. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/quickoffice-pro-hd-edit-office/id376212724?mt=8
    Connects to DropBox.
If I just need to create a formatted text document, think Word document, I use Pages.  It is easy to use on the iPad, because it was designed for it from the start and it now supports TrackChanges. But it does Track Changes a bit clumsy.   https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pages/id361309726?mt=8
Connects to iCloud and you can open in Pages from DropBox.
If I just need a plain text document, I use PlainText.  Connects to DropBox and is easy to use.  https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/plaintext-dropbox-text-editing/id391254385?mt=8
There are lots of options out there, it just depends on what you need to do the most.

  • How to integrate address book in Pages for iPad?

In Pages for Mac, I could drag Address Book entries directly into Pages to automatically populate Name and Address placeholders.
How do I do that in Pages for iPad?
Currently, iOS Pages does not pull my details (name & address) automatically into letter templates either, as is the case with Mac Pages.

I have the same problem / need.
Does anybody know if there is any sort of integration of iOS pages with Contacts in iPad / iPhone?

  • How do styles get translated from Pages for iPad to/from Word?

I can't seem to get the styles of Pages on the iPad and Word 2004 on the Mac to match up. Can anyone offer advice?
When I import a Word doc to the iPad, the Normal style does not get converted to a specific Pages style; the Style box in the ruler remains blank. Other styles, such as Headings of various levels, do get converted.
Reversing the process, when I export a Pages document to Word, the Body style (the Pages equivalent of the Normal style) gets exported as well. A new style with this name is created in Word. If a style already exists with this name, then "Body 1" is created. I can't find a way to match the Body style with some preexisting style within Word.
This is really inconvenient, because Word relies on consistent use of styles. For instance, if I create an outline in Word, import to iPad, modify, and export to Word, the body-level text is promoted to a heading -- screwing up the outline.
The problem occurs whether I save as doc or docx.
I wonder whether there's a workaround, such as using specific style names

I just did a test and moving a doc back and forth a few times and got even worse confusion than you did.
There appears to be no clear answer there, just more confusion. It would seem that best practices at the moment are saving your orig document in Word as Word 97 and using Normal or Body Text but not both. This is probably easier said than done since Word tries to slip the unstyled Normal in all the time.
I guess this hasn't seemed any different than normal to me, since I am used to working with Word docs that move between different versions of Word, different Word formats, different OSs, antiquated OSs and having different fonts installed. I recent years I don't think I have ever had a Word doc open 100% intact.

  • How to double space words in pages

I want to know how to double space WORDS NOT LINES on pages

    I only see lines :(
You can turn off the period shortcut, so you can double space yourself easier. In settings, general, keyboard, "." Shortcut OFF. It's a work around.

  • How do i upload word docs to an ipad 2, How do i upload word docs to an ipad 2

is there any way of getting word documents onto the ipad 2 without having to buy the app as i will only use it occassionally??

To work it the other way you will need an App such as  FileApp, which when coupled with DiskAid (both from DigiDNA) will give you access to the ipads folder system - which DiskAid gives you as an explorer type viewing interface.  File App runs on your pad, and DiskAid runs the interface on your PC.  There are many features, so a bit of reading first. If you go for the PRo version of FileApp it opens up the FileApp application to its full potential. Personally I love it.
When you say ''then paste it into the file structure only gave me a failed to copy 'Access denied' error'' - I take it you mean pasting into the windowsXp file structure?  or the file structure set up by FileBrowser (which is not the same as the iPad structure - need DiskAid etc for that).
Remember that unless the App gives you access direct to the ipad's structure - paste operations go the the App's file structure- some will allow it via import operations from within the App itself, - or via the file-sharing part of the 'App' page when your device is connected to iTunes.  Very few Apps will allow paste from outside applications direct to their file system, or the  iPad's file system because the App's file structure is accessible through the App's permissions only - they are stand alone, which means if you delete the App, you delete all the saved data in the Apps file structure too.
This is why I like FileApp and DiskAid - it gives me access to the iPad's filing system direct (though not the system root folder) which requires either a jailbreak or an SDK platform module.
There is obviously lots to research here, and a little investment of time and a few pounds may be required to get exactly what you want set up to your liking, but it will be worth the trouble in the end.
    Best wishes, Nick

  • How do I open a new page on iPad 7.0.4?

When I downloaded the new OS 7.0.4 software, a lot changed in Safari. It used to be easy to just go to the top bar, open a new tab for a new page. Now that same area is "favorites" (which I don't care about anyway). If I want to open a page, I have to first go to favorites, instead of a blank page (which is what I want). This is an "improvement"? Why is Apple constantly diddling with stuff that isn't broken, making new problems we didn't even know existed before? How do you just a stupid $8;%^ blank page? Thanks.

I got that part but how do I get the new page to use the inputs passed?

  • How do you highlight text in Pages for iPad? The document I want to create and highlight is a pages document

I am trying to create a document in Pages for iPad and want to highlight various bits of text but can not find a function in the inspector for this. Can anyone help, please?

    Hi stuartdj,
I'm not finding a way to highlight text as one can do with iBooks (hold and swipe for black text, background yellow for example).
One option is to actually color the text itself.
Select the text, then in Style tools, tap the Font name at the top which shows the Text Options sheet where there is a Color option.  Would changing the font color to Red, Green or Purple accomplish your goals?
If you do want black text on a colored background (highlighted) it would need to be text in a text box where you can change the fill (background) color.  Style, Style Options, Fill.  But this is not inline text and doesn't flow like just coloring the font itself.

  • Is there a way to find out the selected no. of words on pages for ipad

I'm writing a speech for school and I wanted to know how many words is a certain paragraph ....pages for ipad

No, not in Pages for iOS. Just a word count for the complete file. Workaround: copy the selected text into a new file.

  • Problem importing PDF file from Word to Pages on IPad 2

I am trying to import a PDF file from Word 2007 to Pages on my iPad 2 using the file sharing function in iTunes.
I am able to import it, however when Pages saves it, I get the following message:
"Pages doesn't support some od the original document.
Objects in headers, footers, shapes, text boxes and table cells were removed.
    Merged table cells were unmerged.
Objects were removed from table cells."
The document is a PDF form which needs to be filled in. The document was downloaded from a website and saved as a Word document where I have been able to enter in information and print it.
I would like to be able to fill in the form and print it from Pages as there are other documents that accompany this PDF file. (these are plain text Word documents which I have succesfully imported and can edit and print.)
Is there any way for me to achieve this?
    Cheers,
    Jules

I don't think Pages can do this - you'll need a dedicated iPad PDF program that can fill in and edit PDF files. And even then, reports are that different readers work or dont' work with different PDF's... I use Goodreader, which can do some PDF filling in, but you might want to check the app store for others.

  • How do I show invisibles in Pages for iPad?

I'm using Pages on an iPad 2.  I'd like to show "invsibles" or formatting marks in my documents but don't know how to do it.  Can anyone please help?
    Thanks
    Alison

    Hi, I had the same issue and found the answer elsewhere. So in case you haven't yet;
Invisibles only become visible in Pages for iOS when you select the text around them (I know! I thought the same thing when I found out!).
There is no way (currently) to turn them on as you can in Pages for OSX.
    Cheers, Adrian.
