How to switch QT 7 Pro to default - not QT 10

Hi,
I bought Quicktime Pro 7 and love it. Unfortunately QT 10 doesn't do any of the things I like about QT Pro 7. Yet no matter what I do even so far as compressing QT 10 so it can't be used by default, Snow Leopard just looks and does nothing further when I click on a .mov file. And QT7 never stays in my favored files to use to open that kind of file, even though it keeps offbeat programs like VLC player in that menu. And when I do an 'Info' and chose QT 7 pro, if I have "Info" on two different .mov files open, it keeps popping it back to QT 10 to open it with. This sorta ***** my time and makes it a stupid loop of repeated actions on my part to run these files. Not the first Apple program in which a great program gets hobbled in later versions.
Is there a way to simply eliminate QT 10 and have it behave as I wish? Seems rather heavy handed on Apple's part to have written it thus. I bought the computer. Seems like I ought to be able to enjoy Apple's reputation for a sweet, user friendly interface. Otherwise, why bother.

Yes. Even then. In fact, when going into info, under "Open With"
even when I click QT7 because it doesn't show up in the initial choices, and
I check/tick the box saying "Always open with" it will momentarily show QT7
I then in the info window click "Change All..."
It returns to QT10
It will open the file with QT7 if I don't click "Change All". But only until reboot. So I have to go through this laborious process every time. I can also drag it onto a shortcut and it will open on that version of QT. But it's a pain to always have to do it and doubly irritating because it clearly can open in QT7, it just won't unless a gun is held to its head.

I do not want to save this information, i bought this computer and the person i bought it from has all of it somewhere. I just want to clear it up and start fresh with my macbook. Here are the details of my mac:

It also doesn't have a Recovery HD hard drive, where i can switch and then do all that stuff to make it brand new software, there is only Macintosh HD, and Windows for some reason. Please please plase please help me.
Is there a way i can restore this computer as the way it was when the person bought it?

It would have shipped originally with a set of restore optical disks, did the seller include those? If they did, you can boot from that (hold the C key down during startup) and do an erase and install - wipe the hard drive clean (repartition if necessary) and then restore the original operating system it came with from the disk.
If you did not get the media, can you ask the seller for it? If not, you can try calling Apple and see if they can ship you out a set of original disks for that machine (there would likely be a fee, but often not much).
P.S. a 2.4Ghz core2duo Macbook sounds like it was a 2008 model

I think your going to need a dual boot Mac with 10.4.x on another drive or partition.

How to switch Macbook pro screen to projector in Windows

Hi guy,
I've bought a Macbook Pro Intel based and I've installed O/S Windows XP on it.
When I use Windows, I want to change my screen to projector for my presentation but I can not do this. I pressed hot keys from F1-F10 on my Macbook Pro but there's no signal on my Projector.
When I use Leopard, it's working well but in Windows is not.
Could you please help me how to switch screen to projector in Windows installed on a Macbook Pro?

I dont have access to an XP machine but im sure you can access the external display via right clicking on the desktop and try extending to second desktop or using the ATi controlling software to use the secondary display.
afaik theres no way to use the Function buttons (on a mac) like you would on a normal laptop.

How to switch default TREX

Do any body know how to switch the default between different TREX connections? We have a server with two RFCs to different TREX servers, one is the standard and the other is for Enterprise Search. The standard one used to be the default. However, after the installation of the new one, it seems that all indexing goes to the new one even if we would like to do it for the standard one.

How to switch licensed for "ADOBE DESIGN STANDARD" from iMac to Macbook Pro?

I am currently licensed for "ADOBE DESIGN STANDARD" on an iMac. I have a new MacBook Pro and want to use that instead of the iMac. Do i need to get a new license key? or ??
I know i can download an "eval" copy on the laptop, but how do i switch license keys? i'm not even sure i still have the (valid) license key for the iMac...can i request another??

As long as you are staying within the same general platform (PC vs Mac) you do not need to change licensing. You are allowed to have two activated installations with your license, so you should be able to install on the new machine without having to worry about the older one at all (unless you ever want to free up the second activation for yet another machine). As you mentioned, you can download the trial version and use the serial number from your purchase to activate it to full use.
If you registered your software with Adobe, the serial number should be available via your Adobe account online. If you didn't register it then you will at least understand why it pays to do so.
IF you end up needing to resolve any issues with activating the product on the new machine you will need to contact Adobe Support directly. Here are some links to help make contact:

How to switch off internal macbook screen when using external monitor(s)

as far as i observed, adding external displays ( running different screens on them, not mirroring) to a macbook pro increases the gpu workload and with that comes temperature rise in the laptop and increase in ventilator noise - and probably increased hardware aging and risk of component faillure due to high temperature inside the laptop.
simply try connecting two external 27" screens and open some flash video on both of them. then run a temperature monitoring software and watch temps rise, compared to running same flash videos / demanding tasks only on one connected external screen or only on the laptop screen with no external monitor connected.
especially in mavericks, due to its increased background routines, such a set-up appears ever the more taxing, then again who does not love apple`s nice adds showing laptops with two 27” screens connected to it and the workspace vision they invoke....
i have seen temps around 100° to 102° celsius on a 13" macbook pro 2012 edition, which i would expect is territory where the cpu / gpu temp safety switches will trigger system shutdown any time soon ( hardware status before verified as fully in order by apple service and default osx installation)
imagine your anti-virus software starting some realtime content screening while runnign some demanding tasks already and the system shuts down easily (all such situation observed in reality)
(would be interesting to see how a retina display macbook fares with 2 external monitors running demanding tasks, considering the retina display already increased taxing for the gpu - any experience from users of such a setup would be very much appreciated as it will provide critical purchase decision intelligence for all of us envisioning a retina-book and two big screens adoring our desks...)
turning down the macbook`s built-in screen`s backlight may reduce power consumption but i have not seen any evidence that it switches off the gpu-to-screen feed and respective gpu load - it certainly did not prevent gpu, cpu, board, etc temps to rise to borderline levels.
so the key question here is, how to switch off the macbook pro`s built-in screen in order to avoid gpu cycles being wasted on that screen ( and the resulting heat developments) when working with big external screen(s) connected to the laptop ?

this thread talks about running several monitors as advertised by apple and running demanding task on them.
with the lid open, the keyboard offers a very efficiant heat escape vector, which is blocked when the lid is closed - this is a basic and commonsense insulation effect. this thread also mentions the use of temperature monitoring software and thus a repeatable test setup. the temps recorded were also mentioned. they rose when the lid was closed, the running task remaining unchanged. as far as i could track down the cpus in discussion will shut down around the 105 degree celsius range. i observed system shut downs when the system approached 103° celsius. not to mention that the fans will run loud well before that.
again this is on hardware checked and ok-ed by apple service.
the question still welcoming an expert answer: is there any way to switch off the built-in macbook monitor while the lid is open ?

Hi,
It's been done automatically. Go to the nVidia Control Panel and have a look at the settings. You can set each application or program to run on a different graphics card but it's been set to auto as default. Auto means that the default card is the shared Intel HD X000 for a common usage but when you start playing games or run a video editing program it will automatically swich the graphics to nVidia. The Intel shared graphics has more than 64MB of RAM. It uses the main laptop RAM so in case that you have got 8GB of RAM the Intel HD graphics could take up to 1.5GB of RAM from it. Means that the laptop reserves up to 1.5GB of RAM for the Intel card and the rest can be used by the system.
