  • How to ininstall Digital editions v 1.x?

    To try the Beta of D.E. 1.5x, one is advised to uninstall D.E. 1.x
    How does one do this? I cannot even get D.E. v 1x to download (cannot find a working link)
    Help, please!

    Ah,
    The easy way to find DE on a Mac is to follow the alias that was put in either your Application or Desktop folders (right click, and select "Show Original"). If the alias is gone, then you need to look under your user folder (ie ~ in Unix) for the unlikely path of:
    ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia Flash Player/www.macromedia.com/bin/digitaleditions2x0 which should be a folder. Deleting that folder will uninstall Digital Editions 1.0.
    Just FYI 1.5 should download to the
    ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia Flash Player/www.macromedia.com/bin/digitaleditions1x5 folder.
    After getting everything installed correctly, you may need to talk to Peachpit Press to get a new download. The .etd files are temporary receipts (think similar to coat check ticket) that are used to get you the actual pdf fil. If while trying to get this working the .etd file was used to start getting the .pdf file but couldn't. You won't be able to use again, and will need to get a new one.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to install Digital Editions correctly?

    I've tried downloading Digital Editions several times, but still cannot download ebooks from the Library.  I never had a window open to ask for authorization for my computer.  Tried to follow several sets of instructions (See below) , but am not successful.  Don't know what to do next.  Help.
    Part II: Adobe Digital Editions
    1. Using your home computer, go to the library’s website: www.sdcl.org.  Click on
    the “downloads” link on the left side of the page, select “ebooks,” and then select
    “OverDrive.”
    2. On the left, there is a purple bar.  Scroll down past the browsing options until you
    see links for “OverDrive Media Console” and “Adobe Digital Editions”.  Click on
    “Adobe Digital Editions”.  Click again on “Download Adobe Digital Editions” (there
    is a brown icon with an open book).
    3. A new window will open up and take you to Adobe’s site.  Follow the directions
    from Adobe to download and install Adobe Digital Editions.
    4. Adobe Digital Editions will open after it has been installed on your computer.  The
    first time it opens, it will prompt you to authorize your computer with Adobe.  You
    will need an Adobe ID to do this.  If you already have an Adobe ID, you can enter
    it now.  If you do not, click on the link provided to create an Adobe ID.  Your
    computer will open a web page to Adobe’s site and you can follow the
    instructions to create an ID.
    5. Once you have authorized your computer, you will be able to check out and
    download titles.

    Hi,
    The steps you are following are for ADE version 1.7.2 and the current version is ADE 2.0.
    Please follow these steps to authorize ADE 2.0.
    1. Launch ADE 2.0.
    2. NAvigate to Help menu > Authorize Computer.
    3. Enter your Adobe ID and password to authorize computer.
    Regards,
    Yuvraj.

  • Extremely frustrating product. Slow scrolling makes Digital Editions useless.

    I have been using Adobe Digital Editions for studying recently and I will not be using it anymore.
    I'm going back to the paper versions of my textbooks.
    Studying anything using Adobe Digital Editions is an exercise in patience and frustration. I have to wait almost 30 seconds to scroll to a new page in the textbook. Do you guys at Adobe have any idea how frustrating that is when trying to study? I am forced to use Digital Editions and am very unhappy with it.
    I have often wanted to scroll to a next page and had to do the following: Press the 'down' button on my keyboard 5-6 times, go to my kitchen for a drink of water, come back and wait for the page to finish scrolling. I also could have changed the size of the text to fit the page (which takes 4-5 seconds to do), press 'down' once, and then re-size the text again (which takes 4-5 seconds to do if the program doesn't freeze). Neither of these options is acceptable.
    Sometimes the program freezes completely and has to be forced to shut down with Windows Task Manager.
    I don't know how or why Digital Editions is such a failure technologically as Adobe is a large corporation with a huge amount of resources at its disposal.
    One would think making a fucntional E-Book reader should be a breeze for Adobe.
    The issue is not my computer. I have a dual-core processor and 3 GB RAM. An E-Book reader should work very well on my machine. Another forum commenter mentioned that his computer has 32 GB of Ram and a quad-core processor and he said exactly the same as what I said: Scrolling pages in Digital Editions is an absolute nightmare and makes the product unusable.

    ADE is indeed a disgrace to an otherwise respecable company.
    You may find that the older version 1.7.2 behaves much better.
    Also, try Sony Reader; free download from Sony intended to run with Sony eReaders but works quite happily without.
    I prefer ADE1.7.2 to Sony Reader. https://ebookstore.sony.com/download/
    ~~~~~~~~~
    There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1).  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
    (You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
    Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.
    The forum software is sometimes corrupting the link above.  There shouldn't be a blank in 'editio ns.html'.  The following redirects to the same page: http://tinyurl.com/diged172
    Some people have found ADE trying to upgrade automatically.
    It appears (not 100% sure) that if you install ADE2.0 as a new install (not as an upgrade) that your 1.7.2 will continue to run.
    Probably best to say no if 2.0.x installation asks if you want to migrate your library.
  • I am trying to edit my music list and then sync it to my iPhone 5 so I don't run out of storage space. However, I see the check marks on the iTunes library but am unable to uncheck them? How do I manually edit what will be synced to my phone?
    I am trying to edit my music list and then sync it to my iPhone 5 so I don't run out of storage space. However, I see the check marks on the iTunes library but am unable to uncheck them? How do I manually edit what will be synced to my phone? (the check marks are not bolded, does this mean they are not in my library but only on my phone?)
    You uncheck the music in your iTunes library on your computer and along with sync only checked songs and videos selected under the Summary selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, only checked songs in your iTunes library will be transferred to your iPhone or remain on your iPhone and the unchecked songs in your iTunes library that are currently on your iPhone will be removed when syncing.
    Or make use of iTunes playlists and choose selected playlists, albums, artists under the Music selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and select the playlists below that you want transferred to your iPhone.
  • How can I properly and COMPLETELY uninstall Adobe Digital Editions 3.0 from my Mac?
    OK, so yeah, I *SHOULD* have known better...
    A few months back, against my better judgement and without doing the proper due diligence, I tried installing Adobe Digital Editions 3.0 onto the primary drive of my MacBook Pro (running MacOS 10.6.8).
    The tell-tail signs:
    PROBLEM #1
    While there IS readily available "Tech Specs" documentation for the current Adobe Digital Editions v4.0.1 installer for MacOS (which clearly states "Mac OS X v10.8 or later" is REQUIRED), there is absolutely NO indication or similar documentation for supported system software for PREVIOUS versions of Adobe Digital Editions.
    Reference URL:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/digitaleditions/downloads.html
    PROBLEM #2a
    Adobe Digital Editions v3.0 for MacOS comes as an installer (which REQUIRES admin authentication to provide root-level access to your computer).
    PROBLEM #2b
    Adobe "Digital Editions 3.0 Installer" is FULLY launchable under MacOS 10.6.8 (and the installed application will require MacOS 10.7 or later).
    PROBLEM #2c
    There is NO associated ("ReadMe" type) support document included on the "ADE_3.0_Installer.dmg" disc image and ZERO integrated documentation within in the installer.
    PROBLEM #2d
    There is NO Adobe "Digital Editions 3.0" UNinstaller either installed as part of the "Standard" installation package OR currently downloadable from Adobe.com.
    PROBLEM #3
    Adobe's ONLY MacOS solution to "Uninstall previous versions [prior to the current v4.0] of Adobe Digital Editions for Mac OS" are the following instructions:
    It's necessary to have administrator privileges to complete these steps.
      1. From your user directory, locate /Applications
      2. Drag the digitaleditions1x5 folder to the Trash, and empty the Trash.
    Reference URL:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/cant-install-digital-editions.html
    PROBLEM #4
    Adobe's "What are my contact options?" page indicates BOTH "Chat (within 90 days of registration)" and "Forums" as available "Basic Support" options for Adobe "Digital Editions" software for "Download, install, setup" help, however, "Forums" is the ONLY available choice under "Contact options" for on Adobe's "Contact Customer Care" page (for "Download, install, setup" help with Digital Editions).
    Reference URL:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?step=ADE_downloading-installing-setting-up_s tillNeedHelp
    PROBLEM #5
    The ONLY available "Basic Support" option for "How-to's & troubleshooting" help is the Adobe Forums...and this is an example of the type nonsense response (then followed by NON-response) that one might receive there:
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/6570142
    [NOTE:  After MUCH searching I did, however, manage to find a potentially interesting "Let us know how we’re doing" link (under the "Our support promise" link found on the "What are my contact options? page).  I am going to send them a brief message along with a link to THIS post and hope for the best.]
    Reference URL:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/contact/what-contact-options.html
    PROBLEM #6
    While I did NOT realize this prior to my attempting to install Adobe Digital Editions, apparently it would require me to "activate" my computer with an Adobe ID.
    [NOTE:  This information IS included in the readily accessible FAQ (and I am sure it's also found in the installer integrated software "License"), however, this is a MAJOR "feature" of this software and could be presented MUCH more prominently as an installer integrated "ReadMe" screen.]
    Reference URL:
    http://www.adobe.com/solutions/ebook/digital-editions/faq.html
    ...and, as an added bonus, there is a SIGNIFICANT "spyware" issue with this software discussed in further depth here:
    http://the-digital-reader.com/2014/10/06/adobe-spying-users-collecting-data-eboo k-libraries/
    As an experienced and life-long Mac user, I really SHOULD have known better and I did have second thoughts almost immediately, but by then it was TOO LATE!!!
    So, now I have this TOTAL crap, super duper DRM software that required root-level permission to install (AND I couldn't even run this installed v3.0 copy under my preferred MacOS 10.6.8 if I wanted to...but, of course, I now have ABSOLUTELY NO desire to ever use this software again), and I just want to COMPLETELY remove all traces of it from my computer!
    A pretty thorough Google search yielded several so-called "solutions" that were as bad or EVEN worse than the very limited "official" resources found directly from Adobe!
    Any actual, real working solutions would be VERY greatly appreciated!
    Thank you SO MUCH for your time and consideration in reading!!!
    Sincerely,
    aadams77
    Hmm, it shouldn't be that much of a problem. I searched my entire drive for "digital editions", and this is the whole thing:
    /Applications/Adobe Digital Editions 3.0.app
    /Users/user/Library/Caches/com.adobe.adobedigitaleditions.app
    /Users/user/Documents/Digital Editions
    /Users/user/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.adobedigitaleditions.app.plist
    /private/var/db/receipts/com.adobe.adobedigitaleditions.app.bom
    /private/var/db/receipts/com.adobe.adobedigitaleditions.app.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.adobe.DigitalEditions.plist
    The application itself, three small files scattered in your user account, to unimportant installation receipt files, and another preference file in the root Library folder. Removing those should remove everything related to version 3, which is what I have installed.
    Where I substituted "user" above (for the three entries of /Users/user/...), replace that with whatever the actual name of your user account is.
    Edit: I double checked the installer using a small app that sorts out every file in an installer, and where each item would normally be installed. The main app is literally the only item in the installer. The receipts are created by the OS per the installer's data, and the other minor preference files are created when the app is first run. There is nothing else.
  • How to authorize more than one device on my adobe digital editions Ebook reader
    I have a computer, iPhone and iPad, and can't read a downloaded ebook (EPUB) on more than one device  at a time. If I try to open the item on my Overdrive account with a device other than the one I originally used when I downloaded the ebokk,  it gives me an error code "Fullfill  2004. This license has already been fulfilled by another user".  When I contacted Overdrive Media  they explained that I need to contact Adobe to authorize my various devices to have access to my Overdrive account which utilizes Adobe digital editions 4.0
    Please provide info on how to authorize my additional devises to have access to downloaded e-books  on my overdrive account
    Please authorize your devices with same credentials in order to read the book across devices.
  • How can I get my e-mail address associated with Adobe Digital Editions?
    How can I get my e-mail address associated with Adobe Digital Editions?
    gjortega,
    Your sidekick may be relaying through a different server. If its on AT&T, it could be using cwmx.com for outgoing. However, cwmx.com only works for AT&T/Cingular EDGE customers. When on Wi-fi it won't allow you to send through it.
    Many internet providers, but not all, provide an authenticating SMTP server to use when travelling. If you configured your outgoing server to use the email providers authenticating SMTP server information on a port different from port 25, you will be able to use it on most networks. Some wireless networks filter a wider range of ports, such as some work places.
