How to test System Alias

Hello,
How can I test a R3 system alias?
- System Landscape Cockpit did not bring any results.
- Support Desk >> SAP application requires transaction.
Is there an easier way?

We are on EP6 SP2 at this point. Standalone (DEV) portal installation, and SAP Dedicated system (not Load-Balanced, ie No message server). I've create a test system to SAP_BW, with WAS info. When I tried to test the system in Landscape Cockpit, (selected the test SAP_BW system and JCO) I got NO results. I hope I'm not missing a thing.
Few hours later, I created SAP role trasfer iview for testing, and this is what I got for this SAP_BW Alias:
[The installed version of the portal plug-in must be 6.0 or higher], pretty obvious!

How to test system down in XI? Kindly help!

Hi Experts,
    I have a JMS -> XI ->SAP R/3 scenario.
    If the remote SAP R/3 is down then I have to trigger an alert.
    In the runtime workbench, i have configured the alert in Alert Configuration.
    In this I have given the alert category, receiver service, interface and namespace.
    How do I test the system down scenario without actually making the system down?
I have tried to test it via runtime workbench test tool and stopping the receiver communication channel. But SXMB_MONI shows the message successfully processed.
   Why the XI message is not in error?
   How do I actually test this scenario?
   Kindly help me!

It restarts the error messge from the Queue in SM58. If the message is deleivered successfully from Sm58, the message in MONI gets updated. It does not restart the message from MONI.

Hi Experts,
How to test if remote R/3 system (Receiver) is down in case of Async RFC call? There is no BPM as well. I have configured an alert category and created a rule in runtime workbench's Alert Configuration for the specific inbound interface.
I have tried by stopping the channel and also by changing the server name in the communication channel but all in vail. XI still shows message successfully processed.

Meanwhile, you would have an error in the receiver RFC adapter in Comm Channel Monitoring.
Maybe you change another RFC adapter rather than the one being used in the receiver agreement.

How can I handle deploying multiple test systems on the same PC that have been developed using different versions of LabVIEW, TestStand, and/or Switch Executive?

The major issue here is that the test systems must be documented and validated before being released to the production floor. Given this if a test station has multiple test systems deployed on it that have been developed on various versions of LV, TS, and Switch exec how can I force the test system selected to use the correct versions of TS, LV, and Switch exec.? I understand that the solution would be to recomplie everything and bring them up to the latest version but that would then require re-validation according to the QA department. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
It would be nice if theTS deployment was more like an LV executable... meaning when a LV executable is launched it always knows what LV runtime engine to use when there are multiple engines installed on a PC.

Multiply versions of teststand can reside on the same system, but only one version can run at a time. They is a utility that has to be run to set the active version.
The SequenceFiles have a version number, and you will find an error will be generate if you try to Load the sequencefile in the wrong version of TestStand.
The labview VIs will only work providing the correct version of the RTE is also installed on your system, even a labview executabe requires the correct RTE to be installed, either as part of the executable installation or as a seperate installation, before the labview exe will work correctly.
I'm not fimilar with the Switch exec but I would expect that it will also require the correct lower level device drivers to be available for the version you are using.
Therefore, as you are indicating that some of your system are at a older version, its difficult to image how you could achive this, considering if you say you have different versions of the software(s). For a start, you may have the problem that newer code/ sequencefiles using additional functionatily not available in the older versions.
I would think your only solution would be to have different deployments covering the different versions you have, or at least bring all your test systems up to the same version of teststand.

How to setup a BW test system?

Hi
We are having R/3 and now we are planning to install BW. Now a few questions are coming to us like...
1. In what cases we need a test system? Can we bypass test system and have development and productive system only?
2. How to setup a test system? Should we reload data from R/3 test system or can it be sourced from BW Productive system (in order to get more historical data)?
3. Has anybody setup a test system and loaded data from BW Productive system before?
Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

It is depends on client, for eg:say if client follows Sixsigma processes, then give much importance on Quality. So in this scenario it becomes much clear to have Quality box, If for other clients who don't have much Quality processes in place. you can take up the Quality (test) in Development box itself.
And it also depends on data you want have test on. For some clients they move much of their historical data for testing purpose..
Also some clients mainatain all 3 boxes(Dev,QA & Prod.)in sink..so that it would be easy for any changes or whatsoever.

How do CVI7.0 runtime engine and TestStand3.0 runtime engine work in a test system?

I developed code modules from CVI 7.0, and test sequence from TestStand 3.0. Now I want to deploy all to a test system. Should I create distribution kits for CVI and TestStand, and install to a target PC? Do each kit include the RTE? How do the runtime engine work in a system?

I saw your post earlier entitled "what is a run-time engine?". It looks like this post is addressing the same issue.
To answer your questions, it is not necessary to create a distribution kit for your CVI code modules. You can simply install the CVI Run-time Engine, which you can find if you go to www.ni.com and click on the Drivers and Updates link on the left-hand side.
Then you will need to deploy your TestStand system using Tools >> Deploy TestStand System in the Sequence Editor. That tool will go out and gather all the CVI code modules your sequence calls - unless you are calling a DLL or something dynamically inside of a code module; in which case, you need to add that dynamically called DLL (or code module) to your TestStand workspace.
To install the TestStand Run-time Engine, make sure the Install TestStand Engine option is checked on the Installer Options tab of the deployment utility. You can customize what gets installed with the engine by clicking on the Engine Options.
For more information on deployment, see Chapter 14 of the TestStand Reference manual (Help >> Search the TestStand Bookshelf...).
To answer your last question a run-time engine simply gives you access to the compiled code that corresponds to the functions you used from the CVI or TestStand libraries during development.

How to instal/set UWL in order to test WF functionality also on test system

I am replacing colleague who is on hollydays.
I am pritty new in EP area. We have integrated ESS functionality with some approval workflows.
WF guy told me I have to maintain the UWL on test system as this one can not communicate with test backend system.
So far I created iviews with SAP transactions(and one with URL), page workset and a test role on an brand new system enironment consisting of an ides ecc on an freshly installed EP system.
On old test EP I am very confused (maybe because of ESS package). Other confusing thing is that on this EP system I can not add e.g an i.view(there I can not as "No templates to display. You are not assigned to any existing templates.").
So my question would be :
1.How to instal/set UWL (so that workflows can be tested on test environment i.e. old test system with ESS package in connection with backend
2.How could I get reed of "No templates to display. You are not assigned to any existing templates." message(espetially if this has any impact on qustion 1.)

We have created a Customer exit in our development system in the $tmp package, and we want to transport it to our test system. Can you please tell us how to proceed on this. We are not able to change the package as our package is a development package and so does not start with Y or Z.

Your package is RSR right.. this is the package for the function group XRSR where in this user exit exists.
you need to have a separate development class either starting with Y or Z. If not, ask any developer or your sap basis team to create one for you. then you can assign this development class to your user exit.
To check this, go to SE38 - enter your program name ZXRSRU01, display, in the menu "goto", CHECK "object Directory entry", you should have this development class.

Yes, you import the changes on the "Test" tab of the transport studio of the CMS webui. This will deploy the changes to Test (to the system you have specified in the runtime system configuration for this track)

Hello Lekha,
Goto:
System Administration --> System Configuration --> System Landscape
Then in Content Area switch to "Search" tab.
Then fill the fields as below:
"Search In" == Entire Portal Catalog
"Object Type" == System
"Search For" == "your system alias"
You should see the system objects in the search result.

How to transport the DATABASE TABLE into the Test system ?

I am working on BI7, I had created Database table in BDV system using SE11. Tech_name is ZGLACC_TEMP. I had activated it. I had used this database table for the purpose of writing the start routine in the transformation. while I am transporting the transformations to the test system, It is showing as syntax error in ABAP program,
In BDV system there are no syntax errors. it is working fine,
So now I have to transport the database table to test system so that I can transport the transformations into Test system without any error.
Kindly anyone can give the answer , it will be appreciate and points will be assigned.

Hi Sekhar,
Go to SE11, go into the change mode of your table and change the Object Directory entry (Goto -> Object Directory Entry) to some valid package (other than $tmp). Then it will ask for a transport request. Give a transport request and then I believe you know what to do with that transport.
Another thing to keep in mind ... transport all the data elements and domains you have created for this table. Change their Object Directory Entry and assign them to the same transport request.

The SCAfiles for the ESR comes along with the CE package, you need to deploy those SCA files on NWDS in order to access ESR which is a part of the CE installation process, though I undestand your point that it is not required unless you need ESR/SR. The NWDS accesses ESR and SR to deploy the EAR files for the service Interfaces created on ESR/SR on the Java server from where the services would be accessed in run time. I think you don't need the ESR/SR in the test system unless it would be used by the PI system as well (if you have one in your landscape), as NWDS accesses the ESR once to get the service interface and then deploy it on Java server. and the deploed EAR files can be transported to the Test environment. having said that, you should have ESR/SR in your landscape as you would like the DEV, QA, PRD systems in sync.
On your other question, NWDS accesses the ESR/SR to get the service interfaces and create ear files for the interfaces and deploy them on the Java server and used at runtime.

System alias does not work if not the same as logical system name?

In most of the situations, we define the portal system alias same as the connected R/3 client logical system name.
I also saw some exceptions that system aliases were defined differently from the connected R/3 client logical systems, and they were tested fine.
However I forget the way to make that working.
Could you help me recall how is that achieved?

Agilent E5500 Phase noise test system.

I have an E5500 Phase noise test system. It has it's own HP Vectra PC and
phase noise application. It looks like the PC has the instruments as Active
X resources. I need to automate some of the phase noise tests in with
existing labview code if I can. Has anyone ever had a "chat" between labview
and this test system via Active X before?What traps or worries are there? Or
do I tread new ground. Alternatively I would have to translate my laview
code into HP Vee. Or is there a Visa path ? Any expert advise appreciated.

Hi Hunter,
What was the design of the hardware filter that effectively reduced the noise, and how do you have your SW butterworth filter configured? One of the drawbacks of using a software-defined filter is that it does NOT provide anti-aliasing. That is, if you have noise components at a higher frequency than Nyquist (in your case only 500 Hz), then this noise would be aliased back down into your signal of interest.
*You could characterize the noise a bit better by sampling on a single channel of the 6225 at a much higher rate, then look at the data in the Frequency domain by taking an FFT in LabVIEW. Make sure to acquire enough points to have adequate resolution when you take your FFT (see The Fundamentals of FFT-Based Signal Analysis and Measurement in LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI).
So, increasing your Nyquist frequency (by increasing your sample rate) could give some benefit depending on the characteristics of the noise you are seeing (you would have a higher alias-free bandwidth which you would be able to filter in software). If there is noise present at certain frequencies higher than your nyquist frequency, we should be able to choose a sample rate that will alias this noise to a frequency that we can still filter out in software.
Also, if your twisted-pair wiring is not connected differentially I suggest doing so if you have enough channels available on the 6225 (you can connect up to 40 differential pairs).
