How to track my ipod

i can't find my ipod 4 touch and it won't let me find it unless it is connected to the internet. If it is stolen it won't have internet. this doesn't make any sense.

Correct. That is why tracking a stolen iPod is mostly wortless

No app is required.
- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
iCloud: Find My iPhone
- You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
- If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
- Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
- There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.
- Apple will do nothing without a court order

    How do u track a ipod ?

With a 2G iPod you would have to subcribed to MobileMe and turned on the the FindMyiPod feature via Settings>Mail>MobileMe. If you did and wifi is on then go to icloud.com, log in and click on FindMyiPhone. However, that feature can easily be defeated by turing the iPod off or restoring it. Otherwise you will have to track it the old fashioned way
    Apple will not do anything

  • How to track your ipod touch with serial number?

Well i lost my ipod touch and I don't know how to find it. Is there anyway to track my ipod touch with my serial number.

    Here is Apple article:
Reporting a lost or stolen Apple product
While Apple might be able to get information when the iPod is connected to iTunes, there would be privacy issues with revealing it to anybody who claimed it was stolen. Just think what would happen if you sold the iPod and later claimed it was stolen or lost.

i just got my ipod stolen how do i track it without the serial number please help my parents will kill me

The serial number does not help you track it. You can't track it without Find my iPod. If you did have Find my iPod, I have no doubt the thief disabled it by now. So it's gone.

  • How to track my iPod touch?

I recently had my iPod stolen. How do I track it?

The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief.  All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself.  Something as small as an iPod should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wiipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.
Change your iTunes password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod.  If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number).  If any passwords are associated with your bank or any savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.

  • How to track an ipod touch after it is stolen?

Hi; my sister had an ipod touch stolen at a school from her son. She informed law enforcement and apple. Apple states: they cannot track the device. All devices have a MAC address assigned to them. The moment someone tries to re-register the device; it will show up in itunes as belonging to another owner. I dont think Itunes will allow the device to operate and I firmly believe Apple  would certainly report the device to local law enforcement. Its bad business to not do so. Not to mention the warrants served on the Itunes server. Last thing the public needs is Law enforcement looking around just because Apple is not cooperating. So if they cannot track it; Do they actually report it?

Apple is not the police.  A car company does not tract stolen cars.
    Apple specificaly states:
"Apple does not have a process to track or flag lost or stolen product,"
    From:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2526
If you had already set up the FindMyiPod feature and wifi is on then you may be able to tract the iPod but all the persion has to do is place the iPod in recovery mode to erase/disable the feature.

  • How to track stolen Ipod touch?

I know this may sound stupid, But i could of sworen that there was a way that Ipods could be tracked once they have been stolen, with the "Cloud" system or something...maybe im worng but I need to know...

If you set up the Find My iPod service prior to the iPod going missing, then there is a chance that can be tracked, though it depends on a number of factors (the iPod is turned on, connected to a WiFi network, and has not had the Find My iPod service disabled or the iPod been completely restored).
If you did not set up Find My iPod, then there is no way to track it. Contact the police and change any passwords for any online accounts you may have used from your iPod (the iTunes Store, for instance).
    Regards.

Well up to a point it is.  iCloud is free for the 1st 5gigs of storage (backups and such).  After that you have to pay.
My question is, what does your reply have to do with the original post?

    You do not.
In order to be able to track a device, it must have a data connection, either Wi-Fi or cellular (if applicable).

No. It will only help idenify the iPod as yours if it is recovered. Report it to the police and change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You can only locate your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.
If the device is wiped by you or another, you may not be able to locate the device (although some have reported they can)

    How to track stolen Ipod?

    Hi,
You can also use an iPhone or iPad that is connected to the internet to track your iPod using Find my iPhone/iPod/iPad app. Make sure Find my iPhone/iPod/iPad is turned on. Like what roaminggnome said, you can use iCloud.com on a Mac or a Windows PC to track your iPod touch.
