How to transfer an app from one computer to another?

I have 2 macs. I sync my iPhone on one, my son syncs his iPhone with the other. We use the same Apple ID for both. Problem is I have an old app, Tris one one computer, and Apple removed it from the app store, so I can't download it to my sons iPhone.
Is there a way to move an app over to his?
Thanks

You could try copy it into his iTunes app folder using a flash drive.  Click on the Apps folder in iTunes on your iMac under Library on the left sidebar, control-click on the app icon you want and choose Show in Finder.  Copy the .ipa file to a flash drive and note the location (path); copy it to the same location on your son's computer, open iTunes and see if it appears in his iTunes library.  If so, authorize his computer for the Apple ID used to purchase it under Store>Authorize this computer (or it won't sync to his phone).
Or you could enable Home Sharing in iTunes, allowing you to access your library from the other computer (on the left sidebar under Shared) and share the app across your network (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4620).

  • How to Transfer the iPhone from one computer to another Win XP

    All
I got my wife a new macbook pro, running Windows XP prof. She has an iphone 3G with 16 GB memory running 3.0.1. So..she wanted to transfer the sync function from her PC to her macbook. Of course, Apple was of NO help at all (but did want to charge us $69.95 since her iphone is out of warranty, and this was an iphone not a mac problem, hmmm..). Took me lots of digging, but here is how you transfer you iphone from one computer to another:
    1. Move you itunes library from the old computer to the new one. To do this, you do NOT just copy it. This is as good a link to use as any to see how to do it, but search the internet and you can find instructions:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-12519_7-10242259-49.html
    2. Transfer your applications you have purchased to the new computer. To do this, open itunes in the new computer, hook up your phone and click on File>transfer purchases (from itunes store) to computer. This will move your applications to the new computer.
    3. Export your MS outlook calendar, contacts, notes, etc. to the new computer by saving each of these categories as a PST file (file>export>then choose the category and type of file)...and then copy these PST files to your new computer and import them into MS outlook.
    4. Copy your playlists from itunes on your old computer to your new computer. This link may be helpful or search the internet again if you need to:

    5. Now...the important part...how to transfer all your settings from the iphone to the new computer....this is the part that was hard to find online, but finally got it: NOTE: THE BACKUP THAT ITUNES MAKES BACKS UP THE APPLICATION SETTINGS BUT NOT THE APPS SO THIS IS WHY YOU NEED TO TRANSFER THE APPS TO THE NEW COMPUTER. The settings have all the data you put into your apps, email settings, preferences, etc...so its a huge time save to transfer these to the new computer also.
-Sync your iphone with your old computer to have a backup in case you mess up...in that case you can restore from your old computer and start over
-Plug your iphone into the new ocmputer and start itunes. It will detect your phone (I assume you have already authorized your new computer to use the library and playlists and apps that you moved)
-Right click on the "iphone" on the left bar...you will see a popup menu...click on "BACKUP". Let it backup your iphone to the new computer. It will NOT sync the phone
-When the backup is done....copy the backup file to a temp directory to be safe. The backup is located in "documents and settings">user name>applications>apple computer>mobile sync. If you cannot see it, you need to open windows explorer (not internet explorer) and go to tools>folder options>view and click on "show hidden files and folders" Note YOU CANNOT JUST COPY THE BACKUP FROM THE OLD COMPUTER TO THE NEW COMPUTER AS SUGGESTED ON SOME WEB SITES...THIS DOES NOT WORK, ITUNES WILL NOT IDENTIFY THE BACKUP EVEN IF YOU PUT IT IN THE FOLDER IN THE NEW COMPUTER THAT MIRRORS THE FOLDER LOCATION IN THE OLD COMPUTER.
-OK now you are ready...click restore on the iphone and restore the phone to factory settings. This will happen in a few minutes (10-15 mins).
-The phone will reboot and itunes will recognize the phone again...as a restored phone. It will then ask you if you want to restore it from the backup..say YES. You then need to go through all the itunes tabs and click on everything you want to sync to the phone (playlists, movies, podcasts, ringtones, etc). Once you are done going thru the tabs click "apply" and the sync will start. Go out, to a movie, to bed, whatever because it will take hours to sync.
-Once the sync is done...voila...your iphone has been moved with ALL the settings to the new computer. Check it. Then you can delete the backup you put into the temp folder if it is OK
    -Deauthorize your old computer
This worked for Win XP...should work for Vista. The whole process took many hours so don't rush through it (i'm guessing 12 hours total work).

how can i copy apps from one computer to another?

You don't mention which operating system you have so it's difficult to provide an answer since the mac and Windows stores the files differently.
The other thing you can do is just re-download the apps from the iTunes Store. Just login to the iTunes Store on the other computer using the same Apple ID. On the right-hand side of the iTunes Store page you will see a 'Purchased' link. Clicking on that will take you to a page that will list your past purchases which you can re-download to the new computer.

  • How might I switch apps from one computer to another?

Long story short I bought a new macbook pro (yay!) and I am eager to get my Iphone 3GS synched to my new itunes library. I already have all of my music uploaded onto my new computer, however I am unsure as how to transfer apps over to my new library; and I'd rather not resync my Iphone until I have all of my old apps on my new computer.
What I gathered from yahoo answers is that when accessing apps via itunes; previously purchased apps should appear as free as long as you are logged into the same account from which you purchased them from. This however is not the case, and I'm feeling as though there must be a working way to transfer these apps.
    Thanks in advance!

however I am unsure as how to transfer apps over to my new library
Use the Transfer Purchases command in the File menu of iTunes.
What I gathered from yahoo answers is that when accessing apps via itunes; previously purchased apps should appear as free as long as you are logged into the same account from which you purchased them from.
This means you can redownload them for free. It does not mean they'll automatically show up.

I downloaded iMovie codes to one machine that supervises iPads with Apple Configurator. I need those codes though on another machine now. Can I download the spreadsheet again on the other machine?

Just copy them to an external drive, move the drive to the other computer and restore them.
Re-download from your Purchases page on the App Store.
Connect both computers to your home network and transfer using File Sharing.

  • How to transfer music files from one computer to another

    Hello,
I have home sharing enabled on both my mac and pc. I can't figure out for the life of me how to actually transfer
songs from my mac to my pc with home sharing enabled. How do you do this?
Step by step process please. I have the latest versions of Itunes installed on both machines.

    Hello clissmann,
For the step by step of transfer music over using Home Sharing, take a look at the first article below. If you are stuck or having issues, then you may want to use another alternative like an external hard drive to copy that information over. The second article can help you out with that if you go that route.

  • How to transfer Keynote files from one computer to another?

I been transferring files to my new mac from my old mac, and have found that the Keynote files don't open. Instead, I get error message -10660.
How do I successfully transfer files?
    Thanks

I'd suggest first creating an archive of the Keynote files (using Create Archive from the Finder's File menu), and see if those transfer properly.
(According to the freeware app Error Codes, that error occurs when the app you are trying to run is in the Trash -- that's not the problem, is it?)

  • How to transfer site files from one computer to another?

I've got a couple sites archived on my MacBook Pro that I'd like to move over to my iMac. Is there an easy way to do this that will retain all the site settings and so that the sites will show up in the site files window as I'm used to working with? (CS4)

Yep, super easy too if you still have DW on the machine you are transferring from.
    1. Open DW on that machine, go to Site > Manage Sites > Export to create a .ste file for the site.
    2. Make a copy of the entire site folder for the site and put it on your new machine along with a copy of the .ste file.
    3. In DW on the new machine go to Site > Manage Sites > Import to import the .ste file
3a. You "may" need to relink the site's root folder under Site > Manage Sites > Edit to point to the newly copied site folder on the new machine, but all the FTP info will be there from the import

  • Transfer iweb files from one computer to another

Does anyone know how to transfer iweb files from one computer to another?

Change the name of the file to Domain-2.sites2 and try to copy it to the Desktop on the new Mac.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible in Lion or Mt. Lion enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Optionsmenu to bring the this window:

Sounds like you want to set up Firefox Sync. This will allow you to keep all of your instances of Firefox synchronized. Just follow the steps in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/what-firefox-sync?s=sync&r=0&as=s this article] and you'll be set.
