How to transfer Messages history from Mavericks to Yosemite clean install

I would like to do a clean install of Yosemite on my MacBook, but retain all of my Messages history and attachments from my current Mavericks install. Is this possible? What files do I need to copy from the Mavericks install (before I wipe the HD) and where do I need to put them after I install Yosemite (cleanly)? Anything else I need to do after copying them?
Thanks!

I managed to finally get mine to work, but not after a bit of trouble and losing new messages since my time machine back up (about a days worth since my backup replaced my current. I backed up and upgraded last night, and I figured out how to restore messages this morning, so anything in between that I got on my phone was lost. no big deal).
Much of the below is from other discussions, so I don't want to take credit for it, but wanted to make it easy for you, and there was one small change.
First make sure you can see hidden files by opening terminal and inputting: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
QUIT YOUR MESSAGES APP
Replace the following files from your backup to your current clean install. Pretty much all the files should be in the same spot, except for one folder that I'll explain further below.
Same File path
/users/<name>/Library/Messages-------> /users/<name>/Library/Messages/ this folder should include 4 files:
chat.db
chat.db-shm
chat.db-wal
the folder "Attachments"
/users/<name>/Library/Preferences----> /users/<name>/Library/Preferencescopy any file that includes iChat or Messages in the .plist
Different File pathI am not sure if this matters, but it's something I noticed when I got a message in my clean install before trying to restore my history. In Yosemite, I noticed that that "Attachments" and "Archive" folder are both in /users/<name>/Library/Messages, whereas  in Mavericks, the "Attachments" folder is in that file path, but the "Archive" folder is located in /users/<name>Library/Containers/com.apple.iChat/Data/Library/iMessages/Archive, and within this same folder there is a shortcut to the Attachments folder. (I'm not sure if this matters, but this worked for me). I hope I didn't confuse you there!
/users/<name>/Library/Containers/com.apple.iChat/Data/Library/Messages/Archive-------> /users/<name>/Library/Messages/
Restart your computer
Open Messages and it will rebuild your database.
Ta da!

So does that mean Apple has simply abandoned a proprietary paid for iOS app? How will this affect iPhoto from Mavericks to Yosemite? anyone with Yosemite Beta in the loop?
    Thanks from Zurich,
    Dan

So does that mean Apple has simply abandoned a proprietary paid for iOS app?
That has happened before - remember iWeb?
But this time Apple has provided a migration to the successor app, Photos.
For iPhoto and Aperture on the Mac is not much known (Aperture is Dead. Long Live Photos! | ApertureExpert), only, that there will be a "Photos" for MacOS X.
anyone with Yosemite Beta in the loop?
Beta testers are bound by a non-disclosure agreement, and beta-issues must to be discussed in the public forums, or we will be in trouble. Neither are we allowed to speculate, sorry.

  • Transfer individual apps from Snow Leopard to clean installed Mountain Lion

I had a Snow Leopard on Macbook Pro Early 2011.
Took a backup (a clone with Carbon Copy Cloner) of the system and erased my volume to install an SSD and HDD combination, then did a fresh install of Mountain Lion from thumb drive , which I had prepared earlier from an App Store download.
Now installing all applications manually to have it clean. Some apps, though, I cannot do clean install, either because I do not have the original install packs or do not want to lose all my personal data on them.
iLife (Garage Band, iDVD, iPhoto, iMovie, iWeb, what else?)
    Mail
    iTunes
HOw can I go around bringing these apps from my clone into the new ML ?
I am aware of the option to pay for the iLife apps in the App Store.

macjack's suggestion worked for the iLife apps.
I just ignored the "expired certificate" warning of the Disc 2, "Application Installation Disc" and installed the bundle.
Then without opening them, I went for "software update". Now the App Store allowed me to download the updates. Will take several hours. But I think they are the most up to date versions, so I won't have to pay.
for mail, I followed the below instructions found here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1422832)
    1) Go to users/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail
    2) Delete V2 folder and copy data you have in SL Mail folder
    3) Go to users/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail Downloads
    4) Copy data you have in SL Mail Downloads folder
    3) Go to users/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences
    4) Delete com.apple.mail.plist and copy the same file you have in SL Preferences folder
    5) Open Mail

  • How to transfer Message Interface from Repository to Directory

    Hello,
I have created a Message Interface (with related Message Type, Data Type) and Interface Mapping from this interface to another in Integration Repository. Then I go to Integration Directory and trying to create Interface Determination. I can select proper Interface Mapping, but it doesn't show my Inbound Interface that I created for this Mapping (means in the popup hat I trigger in the Inbound Interface it shows no entries).
It seems like some data has not been transferred from Repository to Directory. What should I do to synchronize them?
    Thanks,
    Maxim.

    Hi Maxim,
If you dont activate the inteface you will not see. Even if you activated if you dont see in ID then you need a cache refresh. You dont need to do cache refresh everytime, because it will be automatically do. Just in case if you dont see then you can refresh manually. Also only for business service you need to add manually. For business system you will pick it up from the list.

  • Transfer Message history from Macbook Pro to Iphone

              Hi all
My wife's iphone was damaged and the Apple store replaced it.  They backed the contact list up to the cloud and restored it, but the message histories for the various contacts were not backed up.  We remembered that when we set up the Macbook Pro, we synced it with the iPhone's messages, so we can actually see the SMS history for each contact on the Messages app on the Macbook Pro.  Is there any way to get these messages back over to the iPhone?
The new phone appears to still be synced with the Macbook Pro.
If not native, does anybody know of a 3rd party app for this?
    Thanks.
    Gina

Thanks for the suggestion of Diskaid. I have read what I can about it, and my understanding is that while it does allow me to move the document to the phone, the OS won't let me access the document to send via email. Can you clarify? Thanks much!

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):
    - Senuti - http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/

  • How to transfer my text from iphone 4s to to iphone 6

how to transfer my text from iphone 4s to to iphone 6

    Hi,
Did you or can you set up the new iPhone from a Backup of the Old one ?
They would have to be at the same Level of OS
iMessages are deleted from the iMessages servers as soon as that are accepted by the device they were sent to.
Essentially they are duplicated if you have more than one device and each then gets it's own "Copy" as they are push to each registered device based on unique login info.
Therefore there is is no simple "Download" old iMessages.
SMS items are also unlikely to be kept by the servers.

  • How to transfer purchased item from itunes to an ipod

how to transfer purchased item from itunes to an ipod? Spent about an hour and cannot figure out how to do that The best result this far was smth. like this to Sync a book means that all your music, songs, TV show and movies will be erased. What a strange Apple logic!

That message indicate that you are trying to sync with other than the one syncing computer/iTunes library that yo can have. You have to two choices:
    - Make this computer your syncing computer by:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
    - The manual method of syncng specified here:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
    or
iTunes 11 for Mac: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
The manaul method on works for music and videos on other than your one syncing computer.

  • How to transfer my iBooks from one ipad to other?

How to transfer my iBooks from one ipad to other?

Purchased iBooks can be redownloaded on all devices. If they are not from the iBookstore, connect your iPad to computer and 'transfer purchases'. They should now be transferred to iTunes (or iBooks if you are using Mavericks). You can then sync using the other iPad.

Trying to figure out how to transfer my ringtones from my 4s to my 5, do anyone know how?  Ringtones only everything else transferred.

    Hi Friend,
You need to connect your iPhone in your computer and open iTunes.
    1. Place your rintones file (.m4r format, up 30 seconds) to a designated area (e.g. desktop)
    2. Import your ringtones file into your LIBRARY, NOT directly into your iphone.
    3. "TONES" or "RINGTONES" icon will appear on the left hand column under LIBRARY. (You should see Ringtones there. If not..... Click Edit --> Preferences --> General Icon Ensure that Ringtones is checked.  If not, check it then click OK…)
    4. Drag your ringtones file from your LIBRARY into your iphone.
    5. "TONES" or "RINGTONES" icon will appear in your iphone under devices (the tab where Summary, Info, Apps, etc are located)
    6. Click Under "TONES" or "RINGTONES" (as mentioned in Fifth) and tick SYNC tones.
    7. Look inside your iphone... and there it is

  • Topic: How to transfer purchased music from iTunes

Since the item <Topic: How to transfer purchased music from iTunes> is "locked" (whatever that means - typically, I got an error message when I clicked on the link!!) - I would like to state that despite downloading the iPod updater to deal with this problem, I cannot update my iPod because "the updater does not have a firmware image". I deeply resent not being able to move 100 tracks I have bought and paid for with my hard-earned money to my iPod. I trust that Apple will sort out this mess forthwith.

I have now solved this problem (almost by accident...).
Unfortunately, before you can update the iPod software on the older iPods you have to first do a Restore Factory Settings from the iPod updater (otherwise "updater cannot find firmware image'). Let the 'Restore' process run right through (it ends when the iPod fully reboots). You can then run the iPod software updater to Update from iPod 2.2 to 2.3 software, but afterwards you have to recopy all your songs from iTunes into the now empty iPod. I reloaded my iPod last night, and it took about 20-30mins using firewire for c.2400 songs. It worked for me, anyway. And the interface with iTunes is an improvement. Could have done without all the wailing and gnashing of teeth, though. Thank you, Apple.

  • How to transfer sales bom from SAP R/3 to APO?

    Hi Experts,
I just want to ask how to transfer sales bom from R/3 to APO? if i change my bom usage to 5 and use this BOM in my Production version be enough to send it to APO?
Also, this is my first time using sales bom, could you please help me understand how sales bom work in APO planning?
    Thanks so much.
    Mylene

    Hi Senthil,
Thanks again for your reply. I was trying to CIF sales BOM in APO but only the header material are being created in APO. The component are not added in PDS. This is how I create it in SAP R/3:
    1. transaction cs01 -->  enter header material, plant and BOM USAGE =5
    2. inside cs01, i entered components, quantity for each components and ITEM category = L (stock item)
i also eneterd base quantity for header material
    3. create production version for header material with routing and this BOM
    4. create and activate material CIF model for header and components
    5. create and activate PDS CIF model for header and components.
After doing all these steps, PDS is created in APO but I only have the header material (no components)
I tried changing BOM to other bom usage and components were populated in PDS.
Am i missing nay steps?  Thanks.
    Regards,
    Mylene
