How to turn on keyboard light?

My friend just got the 9300, and can't seem to figure out how to turn on the keyboard lights... Help please

My 9330 keyboard light just seems to come on when I need to use it.  Any time I hit a button to light up my screen the keyboard comes on too. There is a setting (menu/options/screen/keyboard) that may have something checked or unchecked that may need to be fiddled with.  Good luck.

    The whole story is strange to me. You got new notebook with original preinstalled operating system.
    This original preinstalled operating system is Toshiba recovery image designed for certain notebook model. Recovery images are tested and everything should work properly.
    So Im asking myself how you can have this FN functionality on brand new notebook with clean preinstalled OS? You cannot tell me that this problem persist from day one.
    I recommend you to install HDD recovery image again and everything will work properly again.
    How to do this is described in users manuals document. There you can also find instructions how to enable/disable keyboard illumination.
    I have European Satellite P500 and it works perfect. All settings for keyboard illumination I can find in Toshiba HWSetup tool.

Today, the computer stopped recognizing the built-in camera -- it's definitely a computer issue, as it is happening with numerous programs.
    I have tried putting it to sleep and waking it up, restarting it, shutting it down and then turning it on, a PRAM reset, and an SMC reset, although I'm not sure whether the SMC reset went through because it didn't make any noise or anything when I tried it, although the power cord light did change colour. Any idea on how to fix what is happening?

    You have already tried all the usual troubleshooting suggestions.  The only thing that you did not mention was checking your Keyboard lighting settings through System Preferences.  
    Sounds like a trip to the AS or an AASP.

    A possible combination of buttons would help. Like the one in which we press volume up and volume down button simultaneously to take a screen shot. Something like that would be helpful.

    The MacBook uses it's camera to detect the light level in a room and ajust the screen/keyboard brightness appropriately. If you are outside or in a well-lit place, your Mac will sense this and give you a circle and slash sort of symbol when you press F6 to tell you that you are unable to turn the keyboard lights on.
    You can disable this feature by going into System Preferences>Keyboard>Uncheck Ajust Keyboard Brightness in Low Light.

    The ThinkLight toggles on/of with keypress of Fn+PgUp - the one with a light bulb symbol on it at the top right hand corner of the keyboard.
