How to unconstrain crop tool in CS5 - pc

Does anyone know how to unconstrain my crop tool in CS5 on a pc?  I'm not sure how it got constrained so I'm not sure how to undo this.
In advance, I thank you so very much for your assistance. I'm in the middle of a project and cannot figure this out for the life of me.
Sandy

Sorry to trouble you folks -- I figured it out by clicking clear in the tool bar of the crop tool.  Thank you.

  • How to get crop tool in comment enabled pdf file?

    Hi,
I want to place comments in pdf file using Reader 9. So i opened the pdf file in acrobat 8 and did 'Enable for commenting in Adobe Reader' so that i place the comments in Reader. I need all advanced editing tools. But when i comment enabled Crop tool will disappear. How can i enable crop tool in comment enable pdf?
    Thanks in advance...

You can't. By enabling commenting, you're adding certain usage rights to the document. In order for those usage rights to be preserved, certain types of changes (most) need to be prevented. If such changes were allowed (and actually made), the usage rights would be invalid and Reader would no longer be able to add comments to the file. So you can enable commenting in Reader, or allow for other changes in Acrobat, but not both with the same file.

  • My crop tool in CS5 does not give the option to crop by pixel size

How do I get the crop tool to give me the option of cropping by specific pixel size.  Nothing appears in the dropdown menu except standard crop sizes in inches.

Have you tried entering the numbers with the suffix "px" in the entry fields?

  • How to get crop tool to work faster (is sluggish)

I'm cropping a few thousand pictures, and the crop tool is just sluggish.
Changing the crop or moving the picture behind the crop is jumpy, sometimes it needs seconds to change the display, which makes cropping pain to work.
Even after the picture is loaded and the lightroom rested some time, cropping is sluggish, which should not be, since the picture is fully in the memory and moving it around should be easy for the computer.
So how can I get the crop tool to move faster?
I'm using a Win7 Core i7-2600 with 16GB Ram, LR catalogue on Intel SSD, images on a fast SeaGate HDD, AMD Radeon HD 6800 grafics adapter, 30" (2560x1600) display. The files are NEF from a Nikon D800E, but the files from my D700 are slow, too.
I already worked through this list which helped a little, but not too much.
    I'd appreciate any tips!
    thanks,
    Sam

    Sam,
That's both good and bad news.
It has to draw a tonne of pixels in the higher resolution, and I suspect that it uses only the CPU to do it. Having a faster video card likely wouldn't help.
While you do your cropping, maybe you could shrink the Lightroom window so that the actual image that shows is taking up less than half the screen area. There have been posts on this forum that indicate a large speed increase from keeping the image fairly small. It seems to be quantized: there are certain thresholds, when crossed, that cause big boosts in performance. Try some experiments.

  • Cropping Tools in CS5 Extended?

I am trying to crop to a specific pixel size using the crop tool but seem to be missing the tools that will allow me to select pixels, ratio, etc.  All I have is the standard tool and cropping only by inches.

Generally, GUI display issues are related to video drivers, but with a Mac, the video drivers are updated with the OS. Have you updated your OS from Apple recently?
Also, mouse, or tablet drivers can cause similar. Not sure about the tablet, if you have one, but would assume that the mouse driver would also be updated with the Mac OS.
    Good luck,

  • CROP TOOL CS5

Crop tool in CS5 worked just like previous editions until suddenly, the picture disappears when you hit the enter key. I assume that I have
inadvertantly turned on or off something to cause it to wipe the picture from my screen.  Any clues would be appreciated.

I'm wondering if somehow some previous use of the Alt key has caused something other than the Crop confirmation to be activated...
Do you see the same thing when you click the mouse on the checkmark near the top of the Photoshop main window?
Is the image completely closed / deleted / gone?  Is there still a tab open for it?  What's showing on the screen?

  • Cropping tool not working - please help

i can't figure out what the %$#* is going on with my cropping tool. when i drag it across a picture, then crop, the image is reduced to a spec. the information window defaults to a size only fractions of an inch, even though the actual picture is still at that size, for instance 8x10.
i've tried booting up several times, and even installed photoshop CS3 software again to no avail. i don't know if this is a simple fix, or if there is an inherent problem with the software. it has worked fine for as long as i've owned CS3, about a year. then suddenly the other day stopped working.
anyone ever come across this glitch, or know whom i should speak with about this problem? any insight would be appreciated.

i've scoured this site and have not found any threads that nod to my specific problem. maybe i didn't look hard enough, sorry.
thanks for your response, but i don't know how to reset crop tool. could you please advise
    thanks

  • Photoshop CS5 64 bit tools window, why Crop tool disappeared from tools window?

I am using the above version of Photoshop in windows 7 64 bit.  A few week ago the crop tool just disappeared from the Tools window.  The crop tool is just below move tool and just above the rectangular marquis tool.  I have been using various versions of photoshop for over 15 years and have never had a tool disappear from the preset tools window.  Does anyone have any idea how to restore the crop tool to it's original location?  I have tried the help file, and I guess I don't know how to phrase the question properly to get any useful answers.  Also, is there any way to add additional tools to the tools window?  This windows installation is on a computer that is usually not conected to the internet for security reasons.  If anyone has a solution, an email to [email protected] would really be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff Warren1983

I suspect the crop tool is not missing but just not selected. In cs4/cs5 the crop tool is grouped with the slice tools in the toolbox, much
like older versions such as ps4 had the crop tool grouped with the marquee selection tools in the toolbox.
Location of all the tools in the cs5 toolbox:

I don't think you can add any tools that aren't already there, but you can use configurator to make your own panel having
the tools arranged the way you see fit.

  • CS5 Crop Tool Presets Not Working - HELP!

I am using CS5.  The Photoshop crop tool presets are not working.  For instance, if I use the Preset 8 inch x 10 inch and drag on an image which is say 12 x14 the crop does not stop at 8x10 but continues on to cover the whole image OR it covers only a portion of the image but the size of the crop is NOT 8x10 - it might be 10x12.
Actually there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to what it is doing.
I have cleared it, reset it, saved (my own presets) and reloaded.  I have closed out of Photoshop and even rebooted my computer.
Any Ideas what is going on and how to fix it?  All help will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards, Getting Really Annoyed

It's kinda hard to tell from your description, but try the following
    and see if it helps:
Make sure you don't have any values entered in the tool options bar
for the width, height and resolution. If you do, use the clear button.
If still not working, try resetting the photoshop preferences:
Hold down the shft+alt+ctrl keys while starting photoshop, continue holding the keys
until a dialog appears asking to reset the settings file, click yes.

  • CS5  how do I crop to a given dimension???

trying to crop to 12.5 by 18.5 inches.  do it all the time in CS3, but damned if I can find out how in CS5.  please help...many many thanks
    tom

Using the Crop Tool simply enter the numbers in the fields to the right of the crop tool symbol in the Options bar. If you type the numbers given it will figure it is in inches.
If you are going to use those dimensions a lot,you can save it as a preset,so you won't have to keep entering those numbers.

  • How can I trap Out- of-Memory data with no crash after Crop Tool fails to finish?

The Photoshop 6 beta program froze while using the crop tool on an image size of 8052x5368. I tried to save a file in another program while waiting for the crop to finish (usually about 1 second) and got an out-of-memory error. I checked the D: driv where the file in the other program was saved. I have a flash C: drive and is not selected in the scratch disk preference. Two scratch disks, E: and G:, are selected with a total of about 800GB free space. After closing PS6Beta, the D: drive recovered about 164GB. The D: drive is not selected in the Scratch Disk list. I work with larger files and anticipate this problem again. How can I trap information for Adobe next time?
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.0 (13.0 20120305.m.415 2012/03/05:21:00:00) x32
    Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
    Version: 6.1 Service Pack 1
System architecture: Intel CPU Family:6, Model:14, Stepping:5 with MMX, SSE Integer, SSE FP, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, HyperThreading
    Physical processor count: 4
    Logical processor count: 8
    Processor speed: 2664 MHz
    Built-in memory: 16375 MB
    Free memory: 13523 MB
Memory available to Photoshop: 3255 MB
Memory used by Photoshop: 60 %
    Image tile size: 128K

The problem remains for how the c: and d: drives were not selected in the scratch disk list. I tried again with only E: and G: drives and the file completed after 20 minutes with a 27.7G file. It would have been an ovious problem if the "info" diaglog box included the projected file size and/or dimensional units (px or in) because I use the dialog for verifying the size of the image. I wanted to make a 300 x400px image rather than a 300x400inch image( 90000x120000px).
    Thanks for your quick help.

  • How do I make the crop tool work?

Okay, The image is in adjustment view. It has a white border around it. I checked the box that says crop on it. I hover the cursor over the corners. The cursor does not change to crop tool. When I press on the crop icon it beeps a reject sound. Not sure how to phrase that. New to Aperture. Help

There is no "adjustment view" in Aperture.
What happens if you double-click the image with the selection box around it?  That should take you from the Browser to the Viewer.  Then, in the Crop Brick, click the little "cropping corners" icon, and you should be able to crop.
"c" is the shortcut for bringing up the crop tool when you are in the Viewer.  Notice that the tools in the toolstrip (on the bottom border of the viewing area) change depending on whether you are using the Browser or the Viewer.
Strongly suggest reading the first seven chapters of the User Manual.  Aperture is a rich and complex continent, mostly submerged.  The first seven chapters provide a guide to the flora and fauna, as well as a map.

I have been trying so hard to try and get my head round this since your last comment so what I think I know is with my Nikon d80 having 3:2 aspect ratio pictures that I wanted printed can only be the sizes you mentioned above which is fine as the pictures I got printed were 9x6" but it's from now I'm still bit lost when I use the crop tool and pre set the size to 9x6" with a resolution of 240 and crop out all the bits I don't want it comes back from printers stretched so i'm still lost as I don't know the  point where I'm doing something that causes the stretching? thank you for your patience
Lets separate this into topics  Aspect Ratio,  resolution and size ... etc
Aspect  Ratio is just the ratio of an image's two sides.    Your camera captures an image with a 3:2 Aspect Ratio.   If you want to print the whole image your camera captures it can be printed and image size that has sides the have a 3:2 ratio without distorting the image.
    Images are re-sized two ways:
One way is to keep the pixels your camera captures and print them at different resolutions. Resolution is nothing more then pixel size.  Pixels have no size till there is a resolution set. Pixels themselves may have a aspect ratio themselves.  These days most devices use square pixel.  Some video standards use non square pixels. So if you have square pixels and an image with 1800px by 1200px and set the resolution to 300DPI the print size will be 6" by 4"  if you set the  to 200DPI the print size will be 9" by 6".  Its simple math. 300DPI means pixels are 1/300"x1/300" there are 90,000px/inch 200DPI 1/200"x1/200" 40,000px/inch  100DPI 1/100"x1/100" 10,000. Note how quickly the pixel count climes as resolution increase doubling an image resolution requires four times as many pixels not two timas as many.
The other way is to create a new image using the pixels you camera captures.  Your Camera pixels are resampled(interpolated) into a totally new image not a single camera captured pixel remains intact the new image has a different numbers of pixels it a different image.  There are different interpolation methods some work better then others depending on image content and the direction of the re-size.  Any time you resample an image you loose some image quality.  The pixels are generated they are not captured using optics and a sensor.
Normally I do not resample when printing I just set the DPI so the image prints the size I want.  In the Image size Dialog I un-check resample and the set the print width or height I want to print.  Photoshop will calculate the DPI and set the other side size.    If you crop without setting a DPI resolution in the crop tool the crop tool will not resample the crop to a particular DPI it should just set the appropriate DPI.
I resample image for the web Cameras capture more pixels then can be display by displays.  So in the image size dialog I check resample and constrain the width and height to the image current aspect ratio then I set the number of pixels I want the width or height to be. Photoshop will calculate the number of pixels the other side will be. The DPI is meaningless for web images for Web images are displayed on screens at the resolution a displays has.  Your images will display large on a large Low DPI resolution HDTV screen and small on a high resolution cell phone display.
If you want to print you image a size that does not have a 3:2 aspect ratio without distortion  you need to crop you image to the aspect ratio you want to print at.  You need to discard part of your image.  The Crop Tool does not distort it discards part of you image.  It may or may not resample the crop selected.  I do not use the crop tool but if I did I would not use it to resample the crop I would not set in a DPI resolution in the crop tool.
Photoshop can also resize an image from one aspect ratio to and other aspect ratio a non constrained resize.  The resulting image will be distorted.  However Photoshop does have have a content aware re-size that tries to maintain recognizable objects perspective during the distortion process.  This process can also be aided by user masking.
    Cropping:
A 3:2 aspect ratio image can in theory be cropped to an infinite number of smaller images that have any aspect ratios including an infinite number of images that have a 3:2 aspect ratio.  All crops can be resampled to a particular DPI resolution. However digital pixels can not be sliced up so there are a finite numbers of crops you can hack form a digital image
