How to uninstall or prevent SocialPushAgent, storeagent, etc.?

I have a late 2009 Macbook (6,1) in which I have upgraded RAM (8gb) and SSD (240gb). I am running Mavericks 10.9.1. I am interested in tweaking the background applications and/or processes that Apple thinks are "integral" to the user experience. (I am not a "power user," and I am not uber confident in Terminal, but I am interested in eliminating unnecessary apps and/or processes that drain from my limited resources, even if it is minute drains.)
The items I wish to prevent/remove/annihilate are SocialPushAgent and storeagent. I will add more here later, but this is a start.
Call me old fashioned, but if and/or when I want to use Twitter, Facebook, Google+, etc., I will access it myself and do not want a process constantly running dedicated to this service. The same goes for storeagent; I want to update my software manually, and do not want this mess running. These services are not what I want as part of my user experience, so how can I remove/prevent/annihilate them. And equally important, how can I do this without losing functionality or without any negative side-effects?
One such process--iTuneshelper.app--I have successfully stifled by following advice to rename the app from within package contexts to "iTuneshelper-disable.app," and so far there are no bad-time-biddies to report. Any opinions and advice on this number are also welcome.

So I just went into Users>System>Library>Launch Agents and renamed com.apple.SocialPushAgent.plist to ...SocialPushAgent-disabled.plist and did a restart. First thing I did was pop open activity monitor and sure enough, SocialPushAgent was alive. Here is a read-out of the Open Files and Ports associated with it. After looking at it, can one of you discern whether it truly is a "coreservices" item? Babowa says he doesn't have it running, which makes me think no. i suppose if i reallllly wanted to diasble it, i would go to the CoreServices folder and rename the app from there?

  • How to uninstall .Mac paraphanalia (idisk, backup, etc)

    Hello,
I wasnt sure where to post this so forgive me if its in the wrong place. When I first got my computer a year and a half ago, I got .Mac also. My membership expired, and I dont want to renew. However, the idisk icon is still always on my desktop. I want to free up some space and get rid of all the programs and applications affiliated with .Mac such as idisk and backup. How can I do this?
    Thanks

Select the iDisk icon, right or CTRL-click and select Eject from the contextual menu. If it's also listed in the Finder's sidebar then open Finder preferences, click on the Sidebar icon in the toolbar and uncheck the iDisk item.
The .Mac/MobileMe is controlled via System Preferences so there isn't anything to delete. If you have the Backup application it would be in your Applications folder. Just drag it to the Trash and empty.

  • How to Uninstall Leopard Upgrade and go back to Tiger

First, welcome to the Apple boards.
Backup what you have because it probably contains things from the original update you want to keep - network settings, passwords, etc. A bootable clone is your best bet - and test it out.
Then you need to format your HD (full, not quick) with the Leopard DVD and then reboot with the Tiger CD and install it. I am not sure how much you can migrate "downwards" from the Leopard backup, but some things will probably come along OK. Not sure about mail since it was converted by Leopard - will it unconvert? Don't know.
I have read of some who tried to simply install Tiger over Leopard but the results were less than great. You can try it once you have that clone backup, because you won't be losing anything.
I would suggest unplugging the clone during the erase and install process until you get to the migration point.

I have a brand new Leopard based MacBook Pro that I need to revert to its previous cat form of Tiger. Would you mind walking me through it? I have Tiger disks that came with another MacBook Pro so those should have all of the machine specific items I will need. As I understand this, I start the computer from the included Leopard disk and do a full format. (I noticed that there is a new partition style named GUID Partition, is this Leopard only?) Next, I load in my Tiger disks and install from those? I do not need to do any system backups as I have no information on this computer as of yet. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Brian

  • How can I permanently prevent the Reminder Fox icon (in the Add-on Bar) and the Add-on Bar from showing?

Installed: Firefox 27. ReminderFox 2.1.4. Windows XP Professional
Since ReminderFox 2.1.4 was installed, I have deselected the 'Status/Add-on Bar Display 'Bow' and text on status bar' numerous times, but the setting never takes effect even after pressing the Apply and OK buttons.
The Add-on Bar, which has always been deselected from the View > Toolbars menu, shows as selected in the menu, and even though I deselect it manually, when I close Firefox and then reopen it, it shows again as selected in the menu.
How can I permanently prevent the Reminder Fox icon (in the Add-on Bar) and the Add-on Bar from showing?

It is possible to uninstall the add on or to customize the add on toolbar from the Toolbar Customize option. To troubleshoot this try this article [[How to fix preferences that won't save]]

  • How to uninstall and reinstall Adobe InDesign CS5?

My Adobe InDesign CS5 stopped opening properly. Upon startup all the menu items were grayed out and unaccessible. Adobe Chat support advised me to uninstall and reinstall CS5.
My other Adobe programs are working fine. (CS5 photoshop, illustrator, acrobat, etc.)
    MacBook Pro OS10.9.3
Anyone know how to uninstall and reinstall CS5?
Unfortunately Adobe chat service no longer supports this function on this older software.
    Thanks for your help.

before you go to the trouble of uninstalling/reinstalling--try this (it's called resetting the preferences)
OOPs--I forgot that I was in the indesign forum
There is a quick and easy method for doing this using the keyboard: close and relaunch InDesign, and IMMEDIATELY hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac), and respond in the affirmative to the dialog asking if you really want to replace the preferences. There are two downsides to this method, however. First, you must be extremely fast on the keyboard (if you don’t see the confirmation prompt, you were too slow), and second, anytime you replace the preferences you will lose most program customizations, and using the keyboard method leaves you with no backup to restore them when the problem turns out to be something else.
My preferred method is to CLOSE INDESIGN and do a “manual” prefs replacement, which consists of finding and renaming the two files which make up the preference set: InDesign Defaults and InDesign SavedData. BOTH of these files should be replaced at the same time. You can delete them, but renaming or moving them will give you the opportunity to copy them back in the event that new prefs doesn’t cure your issue. When you restart ID, the program will look for these two files, and when they are not found, a new default set will be written.

  • How to uninstall a No-Ip2 when i installed it via source?

So i installed No-Ip2 via source, now i want to uninstall it because it is not saving anything and is just being a pain. The source is here if needed: http://www.noip.com/downloads.php?page=linux
I attempted to run the below command:
    sudo make uninstall
But it failed and gave me the below error. I was in the same directory as the makefile.
make: *** No rule to make target `uninstall'. Stop.
The README file says nothing about uninstalling. I have no idea how to uninstall it at this point.
    Any tips or ideas?

    sed -i '/^#define CONFIG_FILEPATH/s/PREFIX//' noip2.c

    cc -Wall $CLFAGS $LDFLAGS -g -Dlinux -DPREFIX=/usr noip2.c -o noip2
WonderWoofy, that is the second funniest thing I have seen all day.
It looks like the official package has the two files identified by WonderWoofy, plus a service file.
    package() {
    cd $srcdir/$pkgname-$pkgver-1
    install -Dm755 noip2 $pkgdir/usr/bin/noip2
    install -Dm755 ../noip-rc.d $pkgdir/etc/rc.d/noip
    install -Dm644 ../noip2.service $pkgdir/usr/lib/systemd/system/noip2.service
Although, the files from the official package do not go to /local/bin, so be sure you go to /local and remove the files WonderWoofy identified and remove them.  DO NOT just install the package from community.

  • How to uninstall NW2004 2 part question?

    Hi,
we have an older NW2004 system and we installed on the ABAP CI an JAVA ADD-on that we are not using. I would like to know if there is an documented SAP way to take the JAVA section out.
In 2004s the sapinst offers the option on uninstall instances etc. In the NW2004 not such a thing, so the second part of my question is, how to uninstall a ABAP section without the stop and rm.
We are on AIX 6.1, DB2 as DB. Appreciate any feedback and useful links to SAP documentation. Normal OSS support pointed me to the instguides, which are working for 2004s, but I could not find anything for 2004.

OSS finally gave me the details I needed and the doc is kind of hidden: Here are the locations  for anybody else that runs into this.
You can find the guide in the below link
    https://websmp203.sap-ag.de/nw04installation --> SAP Web AS
    -->SAP Web AS 6.40 SR1 and Related Documentation -->
SAP Web Application Server --> ORacle (or select your DB type)
    --> Part II: Installation and Post-Installation -->

I installed firefox from the extra repo. Sadly, it came with a bunch of plugins preinstalled (e.g., a Windows and Quicktime plugin). Primary reason I moved to Arch was to be able to install only what I want. This is not conducive to that.

  • How to uninstall itune and reinstall it again?

how to uninstall itune and reinstall again?

Before you try un-installing iTunes you need to de-authorize the computer (otherwise, as I found out the hard way, iTunes will think that you've got 2 authorized computers on your account instead of just one).  You should also make sure that you have full backups of all your media content.  You can also back up the iTunes library file which contains your ratings, play counts, etc... which, depending on the size of your library, will save a bucketful of time after the re-installation.
If you've on a pc then the uninstall itself works the same way as if you were uninstalling any other software: go to Add or Remove Programs, select iTunes, click "Remove"... and wait (it'll take a while to complete).  Then go to the iTunes website and download it.
After that, you can re-load your media files, and import the library, from your backups.  iTunes should work just as well as it did before the re-installation.
    Hope this helps!

How to uninstall iBank demo.  Will not allow to just put application in trash.  iBank is preventing normal shutdown.

Have you tried to do a Forced Quit on iBank?
    P. S. I think your profile is out of date. It says you are running OS X 10.0 which I highly doubt that you are.

  • How to uninstall downloaded applications

How to uninstall a downloaded application

Press and hold any of the apps on your homescreen and after a couple of seconds or so they should start to shake. Then press the 'x' in the left corner to delete the ones that you don't want, and when you've finished deleting press the home button so as to stop the shaking. You cannot delete any of the Apple built-in apps e.g. Music/iPod, App Store, Game Centre etc. If you don't get the 'x' on any of the apps that you've downloaded then check that Settings > General > Restrictions > Deleting Apps isn't set 'off'

  • How to uninstall Microsoft Office trial on Satellite A200?

I have a Satellite A200. It came with Vista Premium but I have since upgraded to Ultimate. It came with a 60 day trial for Office 2007 which I am not interested in. I installed Office XP (which works). However documents from emails etc will start opening in Word 2007. Setup for this causes an error, although it still seems to work when you get rid of the error message.
What I really want to do is uninstall the trial. However it won't let me - it goes through "Preparing to uninstall" and then that just disappears and nothing has happened and the program is still there. In the Microsoft Office folder the 2 versions seem to have become intermingled. I have uninstalled Office XP and tried to uninstall 2007 after that, but still no joy.
Don't know if it's got anything to do with fact that setup has not completed properly.
Any ideas anyone on how to get rid of it?
    Val

Usually you should be able to remove all applications in the Windows Vista -> Software settings.
What you could do is to remove the whole Office 2007 folder. Usually the Office lives the files here:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office
Then you could use an 3rd party freeware application called CCleaner to clean the registry!

    Hi Anada,
If you check the File system, you will find uninstall.exe, run this.
Else, just stop all services and then disable them, in the services.ini file and then delete the file system.
Also, delet the nodes from the windows registery, whever you see sap/oracle etc..

  • How to uninstall Lion Server?

I accidentally downloaded Lion Server on my laptop.  I need to uninstall this.  Anyone know how to uninstall?

Well, actually it's been posted some days ago. But it's not quite enough to get rid of it.
Yesterday I gave it a try and, once everything in the note is done, you still have to open Terminal and :
stop the Apache server (sudo apachectl stop to stop it until next reboot or sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.apache.httpd.plist to stop it definitely)
more important : stop the PostGRESQL database server and the collection of information you don't need anymore :
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.ServerPerfLog.plist
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.postgresql.postgres.plist
To revert this commands, simply run them with 'unload -w' changed in 'load -w'.
(I couldn't manage to find a graphical tool to do it, hence the Terminal commands)
If you upgraded from Snow Leopard and would like to get back the original Web Server configuration (with the ~username local web sites) you have to put back the Apache configuration file stored during the Server installation. In /private/etc/apache2, you should find a httpd.conf.bak file, to rename in httpd.conf (beforehand, you should keep a copy of the current file, if ever you change your mind). Then restart Apache (sudo apachectl graceful).
