  • How to UNINSTALL software?

I am having serious issues w/ my Mac (ie. Safari and other apps "unexpectedly quit", unable to open apps if other apps already open, desktop and Safari loading VERY slowly). I took my mac to a local Apple store, and it looks like I need to uninstall the Virex software that came pre-installed on my mac.
It was also suggested that I archive and re-install my whole OS!
I'm somewhat intimidated by the thought of messing w/ my OS, so I've muddled along w/ the same issues for several months now, doing quick, minor fixes to get me by (ie. closing open apps to use other apps, resetting Safari and the cache, trashing library .plist files and the icons folder). My usual quick fixes don't seem to be helping now, sooooo....it looks like I have to get down and dirty now.
How do I uninstall the Virex software that came already installed on my Mac?
How do I archive files (and what files SHOULD be archived, for that matter) and uninstall/reinstall my OS?

Take a look at Dr. Smoke's FAQ on Multiple applications quit unexpectedly or fail to launch and see if it offers any help.
In addition to John's suggestion to run Unix Maintenance (CRON cleaning) you may need to do some other maintenance. Gulliver offers good advice in Mac OS X System Maintenance.
Please post back with further questions or comments.
    Good luck.

  • How to uninstall softwares?

Hey all! I have a new Macbook got replaced with an old one and the entire data is transferred using Migration assistant. So if I open few programs they are not working. I plan to uninstall them and install again. How do I uninstall the softwares COMPLETELY? For example: I have yahoo messenger and I tried to login for the very first time and there was an error. So, I deleted it by putting it in trash. I cannot see any folder for it. Just there was a messenger icon in the dock and in the applications folder. I tried installing the messenger and still face the same problem. This time after deleting it from dock and applications folder, I typed yahoo in the spotlight and could see it to my surprise. I need to know the root folders so that I can UNINSTALL completely. I have same problem with iwork too. I do not see any root folder with icons like REMOVE or UNINSTALL. I have office 2006 and it has a folder in applications itself with icons like REMOVE OFFICE COMPLETELY. How do I uninstall any software completely?

  • How to uninstall software that are non-msi in vb script

If possible, I want to uninstall all the software except for a few hardware drivers. The software strings for hardware drivers could be either listed in the script or in a text file. If I can get this to work, I can share this for others to use as well. Software to uninstall like PDQ will not likely be accepted in company level systems.

Do you want to uninstall a specific application? How do you plan on selecting the software to uninstall?
Typically what we've done is use PDQ Deploy (free or paid) to install / uninstall applications. For the non-msi ones we WILL look at the uninstall string for these applications on a target system and then create a batch file that issues that specific uninstall command. Within PDQ Deploy we will then deploy that cmd file to all computers where the software needs to be uninstalled. Running through the process once or twice will allow you to setup this type of uninstall in about 5 minutes.
You could do something similar with psexec, but PDQ Deploy is a MUCH better solution.

  • How to solve problem with Installer Package for itunes

Hi! I'm attempting to upadte itunes so I can get the latest software for my iphone. It's a 3GS. Every time when ready to instal it says I have a problem with the installer package  -  something is missing. What can I do to solve this?

    Repair your Apple software update.
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install
If you don't find ASU, go to Control Panel:
    START > CONTROL PANEL >
    Add n Remove Programs(XP)
    Programs n Features(Win7/Vista)
highlight ASU and click CHANGE then REPAIR,

  • How to uninstall softwares in MAC OS 9.1

    Hi,
I want to uninstall some softwares from my MAC OS 9.1 but I do not know how can I do.
    Can you help me?
    Thank you and best regards.

    Hello,
Must I transfer the files or folders in Trash? Are not there any "official" system to uninstall the MAC OS 9 applications? Is not there some official methods in the Control Panel's Applications folder, for example?
Thank you very much for your response and best regards.
    Pan.

  • How to uninstall software that doesn't have uninstall.exe or an .msi in the install folder?

I can uninstall the software fine by using the add/remove programs, but since we have several hundred computers I would like to script this. I am using Windows 7 Pro, and have tried with powershell version 2 & 3. The commands that I tried on
    version 3 are:
    $application get-ciminstance win32_product -filter "name like '%softwarename%'"
    $application.uninstall()
It appears to work, I can see the object in $application before running the second command. After running the second command the object is gone, should have worked. But when I look in add/remove programs, it is still listed and the install folder is still
there. Not sure what it actually did.
After that I tried to uninstall using "wmic" commands manually. Same problem, it thinks it uninstalled, but still in Add/Remove programs.
Any suggestions about what to try next?

For that you have to ask the vendor of the software why it won't uninstall.  There s functionally nothing different when using WMI or MS to uninstall.
You  can also use MSI and ask for a log then look at the log file.
    Call the vendor.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • How to uninstall software updates

I update my iphone with the 5.1 software and would like to delete it now? How do i do that?

OS updates and life... there is no going back.
Why would you like to delete it now? Whatever problem you have found has a solution that does not demand going back in time.

  • How to update software with E71 directly?

I checked the instructions on the net but I dont understand them (see below).
Can some one help with this?
I have a Apple OSX so PC Suite is out.
Bluetooth connection between E71 & Apple laptop gets quite often into an endless disconnecting loop and I have to reboot both E71 and Apple laptop. Does newest E71 update help with that?
How do I use my device to update?Tip: It is always recommended to backup your data before updating your software. However, updating using your device does not necessitate a full backup.Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Key *#0000# into your phone's home screen or go to Device manager(consult your user guide if necessary) Select Options > Check for updates. Follow the on-screen prompts until your update is complete! The above instructions may not apply to all devices. For detailed instructions on updating your particular device, please select your model on the Device software update page.

FOTA is not available on the E71 so it cannot be updated directly.
On paper the E71 is compatible with FOTA but no FOTA updates have ever been released for an FP1 based device.
The only options are to do the update on a friends windows based PC or get it updated at a nokia care point. Nokia has never offered mac support for updates so it is not possible to update using the mac OS.

Canada • Middle East and Africa
Elsewhere: Click here, select your country, go to the support section, then select repair.

  • How do I uninstall applications with a MacBook Pro?

Hai, I need help finding out how to uninstall applications with a MacBook Pro?
-I just got this computer 5-6 days ago and I hardly know anything about it. (AS expected from a new user to a Mac computer. ) Everything is kind of confusing to me especially with unziping and ziping files.
-I have researched trying to find out ways to uninstall with a Mac but everyone seems to have a different way to uninstall. And I really don't want to do something to mess up my new computer while trying to find out how to uninstall applications. (These computers are "expensive" and are non-returnable.)
If anyone can answer my question that would be so great and I would surely appreciate you!
    Thank you, CreeSuki.
OH, and if needed I am running on operating system "Lion" (Rawrrrr). And I am trying to uninstall Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 in general.
    Thank you!

The basic way to uninstall an app is just trash it.  But to get (most, sometimes all) of its associated data files, for example, preferences (usually .plist files in ~/Library/Preferences -- ~ is your home directory) you either have to know what to look for or try to use one of the 3rd party generic uninstallers.  Here's a (partial?) list of potential uninstallers:
    Amnesia
    AppCleaner
    AppDelete
    AppZapper
    CleanApp
    iTrash
    TrahsMe
Go to www.macupdate.com and search for them.
Note, there is no guarantee these uninstallers will find all the potential stuff an app can install but even if it misses stuff no harm is done other than wasting a little disk space.
Oh, almost forgot.  Many apps that come with their own installers sometimes provide their own uninstallers to uninstall themselves.  Use those if they are provided instead of one of the generic uninstallers.

  • HD installation, how does this work with installing software?

    Something I was missing, is an explanation about ho wto get the new harddrive working. Maybe it is really very simple, but;
If you insert a new unformatted harddrive, how can you start up the Mac and insert the CD with the operating system? Surely, if the harddrive isn't formatted, the Mac wn't start up, and if it doesn't start up, surely you cannot insert the CD with the operating software?
Are there any other activities I need to do to install the harddrive? e.g. format it using an external bay, or something like that?
Also, what type of harddrive should I go for? Standard IDE HDD? How about SATA or SATAII, will that work with this iMac (G5, 1.8GHz, 20", non-iSight)?

Yes, you could use it. The owner of a copy under a Single User licence (the norm) can install one copy of the OS on one machine. It is implied therefore that the seller has uninstalled any previous installation. This is the seller's concern not yours.
However I would be wary about buying the latest Mac OS X 10.5 from ebay, when this product is still available new from an AppleStore. The trap could be on ebay that they are selling machine specific disks, known by their grey colour, which are not the Retail versions and most likely will not install on your computer.
In short, if you want a Leopard disk buy it new from Apple and avoid that potential hazard.
