How to unpartition a  MacBook Pro 2010

So a few days to ago I had about 90 GB left on my Hardrive so I wanted to partition my hardrive, 55 GB Windows and 35 Mac. But since I had to do something else it was urgent aswell I stopped the partition and now it says I have 56.7 GB left, and no Windows. I have reinstalled Mac OS X Lion (updated from Snow Leopard), but still have 56.7, I Verified both Hitachi's and Macintosh HD's Disks. Both came out saying OK. So I don't know what the problem is.

Never - ever - stop an in progress change to partition table.
Try Lion Recovery and see if you can readjust the size of the partitions after repairing the drive.
If not you will need to erase the hard drive and then restore.
Also, you want to keep the Lion ESD package installer for reinstall.
Backups: a good rule is to have bootable backup along with TimeMachine, so make a clone of OS X on an external drive, boot from the external clone, and do the erase and clone / restore back.

How to Restore entire system:
The usual procedure is quite simple:
•Start your Mac from your Install disc (be sure to use the right one). [or Recovery HD for 10.7]
•Select Utilities from the menubar, then Restore System from Backup.
•Select the backup you want to restore, and where you want to put it.
•Wait while your Mac does all the work  (copying all your stuff).
•Start up normally, and you're back in business!  from: http://pondini.org/TM/14.html
You may want to immediately turn Time Machine OFF, as the next backup may be a full one, of everything you just restored, taking lots of time and disk space.

  • How to Solve Windows 8 Metro App Crash on Macbook Pro 2010 13"

    There is a known problem
    (See http://www.onebitzero.com/how-to-fix-metro-apps-from-crashing-under-nvidia-beta- driver-296-17-in-windows-8/ )
that many notebooks equipped with nVIDIA GPU and running Windows 8 will crash some Modern UI (Metro) apps,
including Game, Camera, Remote Desktop, ... apps.
My MacBook Pro 2010 13" has an nVIDIA GeForce 320M.
I installed Windows 8 Pro RTM gotten from DreamSpark Premium and Boot Camp Software 3.2 on my MacBook Pro.
Unfortunately, I met the Modern UI app crash problem.
I fought against this problem two days and almostly surrended.
    Unbelievablely, I could solve it.
Yes. We can simply solve the crash problem by installing the latest 301.42 driver download from nvidia.com.
But it is not perfect: we will find we can't adjust the brightness anymore.
I also tried many methods, including modifies .inf files and change permissions but all are failed.
Except one for which I got an idea from Windows Event Viewer.
I found I got an error event when I launched the problematic Modern UI app. For example,
"Faulting application name: wwahost.exe, version: 6.2.9200.16384, time stamp: 0x50107c6e
Faulting module name: nvd3dumx.dll, version: 8.17.11.9682, time stamp: 0x4b884f8a"
(Attention! The following steps are at your risks.
Or you may not try it.)
The steps to solve the crash problem and simultanously preserve the brightness adjustment function are:
    1. Download the latest 301.42 driver from nvidia.com. Then, click it to extract files to C:\
    and we don't install it.
    2. Copy the Boot Camp nVIDIA driver files from "13-inch MacBook Pro Mac OS X Install DVD,"
    ie. this folder:
    (DVD drive):\Boot Camp\Drivers\NVidia\Vista-Win7_64
    3. Replace the older nvd3dumx.dl_ with the newer one.
    I.e. overwrite
    Boot Camp\Drivers\NVidia\Vista-Win7_64\nvd3dumx.dl_
    by
    C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\301.42\WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver\nvd 3dumx.dl_
    4. Follow this tutorial to turn off driver integrity check:
    http://www.killertechtips.com/2009/05/05/disable-driver-signing-windows-7/
    and reboot.
    5. Install the modified driver by clicking
    Boot Camp\Drivers\NVidia\Vista-Win7_64\setup.exe
    6. Reboot your computer and good luck.

The method described above is too complex.
I found a more easy way to solve the Modern app crash problem.
That is to download the legacy driver 296.10 here
    http://www.geforce.com/drivers/beta-legacy
Unfortunately, 296.10 and 19x don't solve all problems on Windows 8:

  • My Sandisk cruzer thumb drive 4.0GB (which is very old, roughly 10 years and I'm not sure about the model) reads "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" when inserted in my Macbook pro 2010. How do I get it to work?

My Macbook Pro 2010 with the latest OS does not open a particular Sandisk Cruzer 4.0GB (which is an old model, about 10 years) thumbdrive with the message "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer". Will I be able to read it on my macbook?

Is it readable in a Windows computer?  If not then you can try Disk Utility to repair the drive-- although that may be dangerous too.
I haven't had this problem so I out of safe ideas.  There are ustilies out there.   I used the seach term "repair flash drive Mac OS X" to locate some of these.
If the data is essential there are pay-for services to recover data looked the price was in the range $50 - $1000

  • My MacBook Pro 2010 won't update from 10.6.8 to 10.9

Recently I tried updating my MacBook Pro 2010 13 inch from osx 10.6.8 to osx 10.9.
On the mavericks installer my hard drive is greyed out and when I try to click on it to install mavericks it just says "you cannot install osx to this harddrive". My specs are 4 GB of ram, 2.4ghz processor, 250 GB harddrive with 249 GB of free spaces.
    Please help!

How is the drive formatted and what is the Partition Table set to. If you have a format of "Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Case sensitive" or the Partition Table is set to anything other than GUID that might be the reason Mavericks won't install. Not really sure but check that out.
Other than that you could backup you Mac with time machine, wipe the drive, actually repartition it with a format of Mac OS Extended (Journaled) [NO Case Sensitive] and a partition table of GUID and do a clean install of Snow Leopard, Update that to 10.6.8 then upgrade to Mavericks use Migration assistant to restore your files setting and apps.

MacBook Pro 2010: Flashing folder w/? on not responding to startup keys & I'm trying to install a new hard drive, can anyone help?

Thanks. It started up com that disk but when I went to install it had an error message (didn't get to write out what it said). So I attempted to restore from time machine but it said there was no space, even though it's a new (replacement under warranty) HGST 1TB HD,  so I did what  I think was right and tried to partition the disk but it now says 'Partition faild...POSIX report...cannot allocate memory'.  im not sure what to do, and I'm trying to remember how the previous hd was installed and formatted for use but that was over a year ago now. Should have erased the hd first or something?

  • Macbook Pro 2010 very slow since Mountain Lion!

    Hi!
My Macbook Pro 2010 has become very slow since I installed Mountain Lion. How can I use OS X Lion again?

Regardless of whether you think you need it, uninstall it and test to see if the slowness problem is solved.
If it isn't put it back if you must, but there's no point trying to look for another cause till you've eliminated this one. You have a huge amount swaps which is what is causing your slowdown. 90% chance that's your AV software doing that.

  • Macbook Pro 2010 Model Keyboard Issue - Middle keys not working

    Hi.
I have a Macbook Pro 2010 model, for no other reason other than my cat sitting on it (tiny cat, very dry...) the middle row of keys (A,S,D,F,G,H,J,K,L) all stopped working, CAPS still works, as well as : ; " ' and the enter/return key.
I've done nearly everything I can think of, reset everything, reinstalled OS X... Other than pulling the thing apart.
Any suggestions or ideas of how I might fix this cheaply? Or what the problem may be?

    Hello AJTheGamer
Check with the Keyboard Viewer to make sure no other keys are being pushed down to prevent it from the keys that you are typing to be registered. Another thing you can check is to try and create a new user to see if the issue carries across the system as a whole.
One or more keys on the keyboard do not respond

  • So ML's new airplay functionality won't work on a Macbook Pro 2010?

Was there anything in the advertisements for the new Airplay functionality via ML that it wouldn't apply to any machines prior to 2011?
Am I just missing something about how to enable it, or is my MacBook Pro 2010 really unable to make use of the mirroring functionality?
I have this sinking feeling that I've been hosed

    to say the least, DIS-appointing.
Apple's done a better job in the past of identifying which machines would work with software upgrades. I suppose I missed the fine print, but since this kind of functionality would be highly coveted, it would've served Apple to make more prominent in their descriptions this issue.
