How to upgrdae Oracle Cluster on Red Hat Linux 3 to Red hat Linux 4 AS U 7
We need to upgrade our Clustered (2 Nodes) Oracle Database environment on Linux environment to Red Hat 4 AS 7. The current OS version is Red Hat 3 update 6. We use EMC SAN Storage as shared storage (OCFS and Raw Devices) for our 9i and 10g databases
Question: We will install (on local disks) Red Hat 4 AS Update 7 and then install ocfs and ASMlib RPMs. Is there any risk of loosing the existing (on Red Hat 3 update 6) ocfs file systems and raw devices (from EMC SAN Storgae) after we do fresh install of OS and ocfs and ASMlib RPMs? How can we keep the shared storage data quickly available (without restore from the backup) to the system after installing Red Hat 4 AS Update 7 and mentioned RPMs?

Email ID: [email protected]Hi,
1.From DB02--> detail analysis menu you can take out top 50 tables & indexes. you can mark the size of the index should be generally less than the table.If its more or very much similar size of table, you can rebuild it using SE14. This can free some space.
or else you may use brspace to do this.
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/58/6bec38c9fa7e44b7f2163905863575/frameset.htm
In case of table this option is risky as it may result in data loss.
2. Earlywatch alert gives the top 20 degenrated index. you can check that which also gives a factor 'storage quality'.
3. Run report SAP_DROP_TMPTABLES. It removes temporary database objects. ( we do this in our BW system)
Hope this helps
Thanks

How to install Oracle 10g on to Red Hat Linux 5 Server
I'm new to both Linux and Oracle. I've been working on an installion of Oracle 10g on a Red Hat Linux 5 Server for about 2 weeks. I've been doing a lot of reading about installing Oracle on a Linux environment. I finally got to the installation portion and the Oracle Installer displayed a message that I had to have Red Hat 4 or 4 Enterprise to continue.
How can Install Oracle 10g onto a Red Hat 5 Linux Server"? Is there an option that I can use to bypass the OS checking?
ThanksUnfortunately there is no way to access metalink without a valid account. You could then just try to skip preinstall requisites with this clause:
./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
or this method:
Copy the oraparam.ini from the installation source install/oraparam.ini to /tmp directory.
Edit the file /tmp/oraparam.ini so this file reads:
After
[Certified Versions]
Linux=redhat-3,SuSE-9,redhat-4,UnitedLinux-1.0,asianux-1,asianux-2,redhat-5
also, make sure you have these packages installed:
# rpm -ivh gcc-c++-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm gcc-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm
libstdc++-devel-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm glibc-devel-2.5-12.i386.rpm

How to Create Shared Storage using VM-Server 2.1 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
Thanks in advance.
Describe in sequence how to create shared storage for a two guest/node Red Hat Linux Enterprise using Oracle 2.1 VM Server on Red Hat Linux Enterprise 5 using command line or appropriate interface.
How to create Shared Storage using Oracle 2.1 VM Server?
How to configure Network for two node cluster (oracle clusterware)?Hi Suresh Kumar,
Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2, Patch Set 3 (10.1.2.3) is required to be fully certified on OEL 5.x or RHEL 5.x.
Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 10.1.2.0.0 or 10.1.2.0.1 versions are not supported with Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) 5.0 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.0. It is recommended that version 10.1.2.0.2 be obtained and installed.
Which implies Oracle AS 10.1.2.x is some what certified on RHEL 5.x
I think it would be better if you get in touch with Oracle Support regarding this .
Sorry , I am not aware of any document on migration from Sun Solaris to RH Linux 5.2 .

How to deploy oracle 11g under cold failover cluster
Hi,
I am trying to install oracle 11g under failover cluster environments. I am trying to find some oracle documentation about it. But not able to find one. Can anyone help me. Please i need it badly.
we have two servers sun solaris 10. on which we have failover cluster being installed. one is active while one is passive. How can i install oracle 11g on this failover clusters. did i have to install oracle of shared SAN. what are the extra configuration i have to do please help
Also is it wise to install 11g warehouse with fail safe or use RAC.
regards
Nick
Edited by: Nick Naughty on Feb 1, 2009 4:02 AMthanks alot for reply.
I am of the same point of view. but the machine i am working on is sun solaris 10 with two partitions finance and accounts which have been protected by a failed over machine having two partitions finance and accounts and i think you are right these are the same shared storage folder which are mounted on active machine as well as on passive machine.
Now my question is if i install oracle 11g on one machine without oracle cluster then sun cluster should be able to mount the database in case the primary machine fails.
I have tried hard to get some documentation on this top but nothing so far. please help

How can I tuning Oracle Cluster to faster write data?
I have oracle 10G 4 nodes.
I found oracle write slowly. And more Cluster waiting
so I use one node, that I found write faster.
tell me , How can I tune oracle cluster to write faster.Please provide more information. There is too little information to answer the question.
Database: 10G: which exact version?
Operating system on which the RAC instances are running?
What kind of shared storage is used?
How are the database machines connected to the central storage?
How did you measure the write slowness?
(please mind that user sessions do not wait for dirty blocks to be written to disk. these blocks are put on the 'dirty list' and written by a seperate process called the database writer. user session do wait on redo writes (by default) however, which is meta-information about the transactions)
What do you mean by 'And more Cluster waiting'? -
ERROR SPECIFYING ORACLE CLUSTER REGISTRY LOCATION
Hi all,
im implementing oracle RAC 10g on Linux version 4, now i've already prepaired the shared disks on my nodes my situiation is am facing a problem in installing the clusterware where in specifying Oracle Cluster Registry Location it gives me an ERROR saying "The Location entered for the Oracle Cluster Registry is not shared across all the nodes in the cluster. Specify a shared raw partition or cluster file system file that is visible by the same name on all nodes of the cluster".
Thanks in advance!No wonder! How can node2 see the drive which is local to node1??? I am assuming this is for your home testing. You need to have some kind of shared storage to implement RAC - typical examples are FireWire or alternatively NFS shares/mounts. There is an article on OTN which talks about implementing RAC using Firewire in RAC. Or you check out my blog entry http://chandradba.blogspot.com/2007/08/oracle-11g-rac-install-on-red-hat-50.html which talks about implementing RAC using NFS shares.
As I said, these configuration are not for other than your own testing....meaning non-production usage.
HTH
Thanks

I would appreciate if you can provide some screen shots for the configuration details and files to be modified for the port and deploying the forms.
Whether we need to install apache,http or oracle application suite for the linux will take care?
Is there any pre-requisite health checktool like RDA.sh for the rdbms? Please let me know what are the important configuration file.
What is identity management in this?

FATAL [INS-41311] One or more Oracle Cluster Registry (OCR) locations spec

It seems that the install sees an existing CRS install, but the NFS volumes are empty. This is a fresh install. I ran cleanup, but there's nothing to remove. Any help or insight will be appreciated.

I see in the above log that saying ASM instance is down and failed to open +DATA .
But the asm instance up and running
SQL> select instance_name,status from v$instance;
INSTANCE_NAME STATUS
+ASM1 STARTED
And we havent created any disk named DATA before the installation. We have created only below two disks
SQL> select name,header_status from v$asm_disk;
NAME HEADER_STATUS
ASM_DATA MEMBER
FLASH_RECOVERY MEMBER
But I am seeing a diskgroup in the v$asm_diskgroup which we havent created.
SQL> select name,state from v$asm_diskgroup;
NAME STATE
DATA MOUNTED
Ya this is a second time installtion. In the first installtion we created the asmdisk as DATA. But later everything (RAW device ) was formatted and this new disks has been created and installtion again started
[root@SFV9699 bin]# oracleasm listdisks
ASM_DATA
FLASH_RECOVERY
Seems like its trying to read the old disk DATA.
we have done asmscanning too with oracleasm scan disks. but no use.
Where I can remove the old entry of DATA disk.
It would be a great if a quick response get.
Thanks
SHIYAS MThe permission looks fine. If it was permission issue then y it is trying to read the DATA disk which I havent created this time at all ( But created in the first installation).

Oracle Clustre, Oracle Cluster with RAC and Oracle 10g
Is there a difference between Oracle Cluster and Oracle Cluster with RAC? Please explain. Do existing database codes run unmodified in Cluster or Cluster with RAC environment? What needs to be modified to make existing SQL codes RAC-aware. How to achieve 'all automatic' in case of failure and resubmission of Queries from failed instance to a running instance?
In 10g environment, do we need to consider licensing of RAC as a separate product? What are additional features one derives in 10g that is not in Cluster +RAC?
Your comments and pointers to comparison study and pictorial clarification will be very helpful.Oracle cluster like failsafe before or Veritas Cluster or other vendor's cluster is meant for HA (high availability) purpose. Which 2 nodes or more can see a shared disk with 1 active node. Whenever this active node failed through heartbeat other machine will know and will take the database over from there.
Oracle RAC is more for HA and load balance. In Oracle RAC 2 or more nodes are accessing the database at the same time so it spread load across all these nodes.
I believe Oracle 10g RAC still need seperate license for it. But you need to call Oracle or check the production document to verify it.
Oracle 10g besides improvement in RAC. It's main improvement is on the build in management of the database itself. It can monitored and selftune itself to much furthur level then before and give DBA much more information to determine the cause of the problem as well. Plus improvement on lots of utility as well like RMAN , data pump etc... I don't want to get into too much detail on this you can check on their 10g new features for more detail view.
Hope this help. :)
