How to use iPhone USB tethering / Personal Hotspot without iTunes
I have a corporate laptop so didn't want to install the whole of iTunes to enable USB tethering / Personal Hotspot.
Here's how you can enable USB tethering / Personal Hotspot without installing iTunes.
1. Download iTunes from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
2. Extract the contents of the downloaded file using winRAR or 7zip. In particular you want the following files:
For 32 bit systems:
- AppleApplicationSupport.msi
- AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi
For 64 bit systems:
- AppleApplicationSupport64.msi
- AppleMobileDeviceSupport6464.msi
Note: If you don't have either winRAR or 7zip you can do the following instead:
Start the iTunes installation, then on reaching the first screen, the required files will be extracted to your machine, perform a search for one of the files above on your C drive whilst the iTunes installation window is open, it should find them in a temp folder somewhere, you can then copy and paste them somewhere and close the iTunes installation.
3. Before continuing, ensure your iphone is not connected to the computer. Then, install AppleApplicationSupport.msi (or AppleApplicationSupport64.msi for 64 bit machine)
4. Install AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDevice6464.msi)
5. Restart your computer
6. After your computer has restarted, enable Personal Hotspot on your iPhone (select USB only option) and plug in your iPhone using the USB cable. Some device drivers will install and then your computer should automatically connect to the iPhone internet connection.

Using the personal hotspot can become tricky as there are three different options available. Based on your details, it sounds like you've been trying the option to connect using WiFi on your computer and iPad. We have the steps needed for iOS 6 to activate and use WiFi so I encourage to use these exact steps to get it to work http://bit.ly/SFLD2b. You will need to check that the MacBook Pro is setup to pick up the network the right way. Check by following http://bit.ly/PJkOWZ. Step 9 demonstrates how to find the network name that you can look for on your computer. Try these steps and keep us posted to the status of the connection.

Can't Apple Remote to iTunes when using iPhone as a Personal Hotspot
My AT&T iPhone 4S is set up to be used as Personal Hotspot. So I turn HotSpot on and connect my MacBook Pro to my iPhone's internet just fine.
However, when I open Apple Remote app on the iPhone, it won't connect to iTunes on my MBP.
I have set it up at home where both iPhone and MBP are connected to the wireless connection on the Apple Airport. It worked perfectly in that configuration.
I'm in a band that plays weddings and corporate events. During breaks, I use Apple iTunes to DJ tracks. If I can't use Remote, I'm tethered to the stage constantly. This is a big problem. I need the internet connection to buy songs that are requested that I don't already own. And I need to be able to control iTunes remotely for when I'm in the crowd running microphones from one person to another during speeches and such.
Is there a setting that I'm missing somewhere? Or am I just outta luck for this configuration?

Connect iphone personal hotspot, on macbook turn on - internet connection sharing - create your network - connect iphone to that network, you will have internet connection and mac with iphone will think that you are on wifi network. From that point will everything work - also remote control and remote sync with itunes. Try it!.

i'm currently using 3gs. My 'Personal Hotspot' option suddenly dissapear from my 'Settings'. How can i get my 'Personal Hotspot' option back?
The iOS5 upgrade for the iphone allowed network operators to control the availability of the 'personal hotspot' feature. If your operator is one of those who charge extra for tethering (and most do) then by upgrading to ios5 you've facilitated them to remove the option for you.
Apple bowed to the demands of the opertators on this one.
I am with Tesco(O2) and as soon as I upgraded to ios5 I lost the 'personal hotspot' option.
I have the last laugh though; They cant control my Android phone so I put the Tesco mobile sim into that when I want to use tethering.
Get an Android phone or if you're in the UK use Three mobile who allow tethering. -
I want to use my internet Data on my laptop but there is no option for personal hotspot how can i configure this and if i have to adk my operator or service provider for the configuration than what are those configurations that i should ask my operator to provide me please help

Your mobile carrier supports tethering/personal hotspot.
Also, your data plan with your carrier should include a tethering option. -
How to use iphone as hotspot?
To use your iPhone as a Hotspot, first make sure you subscribe to a hotspot plan through your provider.
Depending on your prodiver it may come included in your Data subscription or you may need to pay extra.
Most carrier will give you instructions on how to set up your hotspot.

I want to access our company's network with my Mac Book Pro using my iPhone 4's 3G connection, but unfortunately it simply won't work. Here is what I can do:
- I can establish a VPN connection from my MacBook Pro using my home (or some other) WiFi and access the company network.
- I can establish a VPN connection on my iPhone 4 using 3G and access the company network on my iPhone 4.
- I can use my iPhone 4's personal hotspot (sharing its 3G connection) with my MacBook Pro and surf the Web.
what I can't do is:
- establish a VPN connection on my MacBook Pro when connected to the internet via the iPhone's personal hotspot. (connection times out)
- access the company's network on my MacBook Pro using the personal hotspot, when the iPhone's VPN connection is ON.
The VPN is an encrypted PPTP connection, with username and password.
Is this a known issue, and, if so, is there any way to solve this?

If you turn on the hotspot, the phone will be disconnected from the WiFi network you are on and share access to the cellular connection. That's what it's for. It's using your data plan if that's what you're trying to do.

You don't need anything, as such is built directly into the iOS. Your carrier, however, needs to support such.

The only advantage I can think of is if the phone contract's data plan is limited. Then an iPad data plan would provide more MBs. I used to have ipads with cellular available, but now that I have an iphone with a hotspot feature, and the fact that I rarely use the hotspot, I opted for wifi only ipad.

Because I knew that we were not using data usage at these odd-ball hours of the night or day. Yet, now I have learn that this is just not the case.

Hi,
To access the MIDI ports you will need to call the Windows SDK. To send MIDI commands is relatively easy, here is an example that shows you how to send data to a MIDI controller or keyboard.
As far as input goes, this is the hard part. There are a series of functions that you need to call to open up the device, set some buffers and and possibly a callback to get notifications on the incoming data.
Reading MIDI data will not be an easy task, your best bet will be to implement this in a DLL and call that DLL in LabVIEW, there should be some code available o the web.
