How to use pci 6229 to generate a sine wave?

Dear friends,
I want to use pci 6229 to continuously generate a sine wave by 5000 sampling rate to output to drive a loudspeaker.
Does any one can post an example so that I can learn from it?

Could I use PCI-6601 to generate a 200Hz clock based on a external 40kHz clock?
That means I want to use PCI-6601 as a frequency divider. (40KHz->200Hz)
Is it possible? Is there any example I can refer to?

1. Yes it's definitely possible to make such a frequency divider.
2. Here are a couple links that may help:

• Generating a sine wave using PXI 5441

How to generate a sine wave using PXI 5441 (Arbitrary Waveform Generator)?
Can anybody post a vi that generates a sine wave with frequency at a user defined frequencies.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Venki,
When using an arbitrary waveform or user-defined
waveform, you provide the actual waveform you want to generate to
the device, so it is easy to also just connect a graph to the waveform
and see what it looks like. Unfortunately, when using standard function generation (which is the method used in this example), you are not providing a signal that is created in software. Because the standard function
generation is happening on the FGEN and not in software, there is
really no way to display the exact signal without measuring
it on a scope or some device. You can, however, simulate the signal in
software such that the parameters which are given to the FGEN functions
are the same parameters that you use to generate a simulated wave. This
would be somewhat complex since you can change parameters such as
frequency and amplitude on-the-fly, and also you would need separate
functions for each of the different signal types available for the
FGEN. You would need to place the software waveform generator in your
inner loop and have a waveform graph connected to it in the loop as
well to display the signal. The main thing to keep in mind is that this
will only be a simulated signal and so it may not exactly match what is
being generated (this also depends on how you program the simulation to
work). Hope this helps,

• How to count the number of cycles in sine wave

Hi,
I am new to Labview. I have labview 8.2 version and my dataacquisition is NIDAQPAD6015. I could write a program to generate a sine wave of desired frequency through simulate signal. My question is how do i measure the number of cycles for this sine wave as soon as I run the program. Hope my question is clear.
Ravi Mokirala

To find the offset (which in this case is the Y value midpoint around which the sine wave is symetrical):
Capture more than one cycle. Find the min and max values. Subtract Min from Max and divide by 2. Then subtract this result from the Max value (or add the result to the Min value). This is the offset.
To count the number of cycles where the offset is unknown, just use the first data point value as a reference. If the next data point is more positive, then count the number of times that the first data point is repeated and the next data point is more positive. Of course with DBL data type, you probably would not get the exact same value as the first data point, so you need to use In Range with a very tiny limit. It all depends on your signal amplitude, frequency, and sampling rate.
Example: Lets say your first data point value is 0.5 and the 2nd point is 0.55. You need to look for another value that is between 0.48 and 0.52. Then read the very next data point value. If it is greater than the previous value, add one to the cycle count. If it is less than, you are at half a cycle, do not add to the count.

• Help needed with generating a sine wave with NI-5640R card

Hi there,
I have created a simple programe using the 5640R card, and i am attaching the programe to this question. Using a "sine generation" function/block i am generating a sine wave and outputting to one of the o/p ports and then i am connecting that o/p port to one of the i/p ports using a cable. Then i am plotting what ever i have recieved through the i/p port (this has to be same as what is generated using "sine generator" ). The graph shows that i am not receiving aything from the i/p port, but when i plot the o/p of the "sine generator", i see that the sine generator is generating the sine wave. Please refer to the attached figure and please tell me what mistake i have made in this simple programe.
Thanks,

Hi sandeep
This small segment of code will not work on the NI PCI-5640R. This module does not support running the FPGA Vis directly. A Host VI must be run that calls to the FPGA Vis.
I suggest that you look at the ni5640R Analog Input and Output example that is installed by the NI PCI-5640R software.

PS: Make sure that you are using the NI PCI-5640R software version 1.1.

• How does the PCI-6229 DAQ-card communicate with CB-68LP connector block?

Hello!
I want to do a very simple task which is to just turn on/off a LED. I am using LabVIEW 7.1 and I have a DAQ-card PCI-6229. The DAQ-card is then wired to a connector block CB-68LP.
Now my problem is to figure out how the connector block communicates with the DAQ-card?
In the file I attached there is a picture of connector block and the device pinouts from the DAQ-card. But how do I know which of pinouts triggers some connector on the connectorblock?
Which are digital outputs on the DAQ-card?
Where can I read about this?
Attachments:
daqANDconnectorblock.bmp ‏2437 KB

Hello asc01001:
The digital pins of the PCI-6229 are labelled as Px.y, where x is the port name while y is the channel name. For example, pin52 of the NI 6229 is P0.0; which is also port 0, channel 0 of the digital I/O of the DAQ card.
While "D GND", which are located at pin53, pin18, pin50, etc. are the negative terminal of all digital I/O of the DAQ cards.
Please advice if this helps.

• How to use Flex Builders Auto Generated CFCs

OK. Not only have I already gone to a 4 day flex training,
have an advanced coldfusion certification and work with 3 coworkers
who have done the same...none of us can figure out how in the heck
the flex builder's autogenerated cfc's are to be used. No big deal
on the fact that this might be something we simply are encountering
for the first time, but the complete and utter absence of a single
piece of example code or documentation stating how to use this code
correctly is very very very very irritating.
Can anybody, share with me anything about how these CFCs are
to be used correctly. For example. We are using the wizard to
generate an "Active Record CFC" set of cfc's for an example table
contain four fields. We have a data grid that is now populated by
the "getAllAsQuery" function....we would like to implement the
feature of making this dataGrid updateable. We know how to pass
data back and forth and yes we could write our own CFC to do
this...but having it autogenerated is a really neat option...but
the question remains....how does one use them!!!
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi there, what's your name by the way?
What is a VO or DTO, and why would you use it?
This was copy from the Java world, so it's a very OOP principle, basically in the OOP world everything is a class that has methods and properties, and you represent everything with classes, a VO is just that a class that represents an entity in your app. You use it for a few reasons in my opinion:
It allows you to pass strongly typed data between different layers in your app.
It's more verbose, it's a good OOP practice, and also makes debugging and reading you code easier.
It allows easy data type conversion between CF and Flex.
You obviously know how to use the wizards, after you select your table and open the wizard you'll see three different CFC types, if you're using LCDS then select that type if you don't I'll recommend you to go with BEAN/DAO. In Flex Builder you can create a folder link to a system folder, so if you create a folder named MyCFCs and you set this virtual folder to be hold inside c:\ColdFusion8\wwwroot every file that you put in this folder will be place in c:\ColdFusion8\wwwroot so you don't have to manually copy those files.
In this wizard you'll see CFC folder in there you can select your virtual folder, you'll see below the CFC package name this is extremely important to be set right, what is the CFC package name? Basically it's the same folder structure where your CFCs will be located for instance let's say you're gonna place the files in this folder structure c:\ColdFusion8\wwwroot\com\myPersonalDomain\ so your CFC package name will be com.myPersonalDomain.
You'll probably also would like to enable the option: Create an ActionScript value object in addition to CFCs, the folder where you place this file have to mimic the CFCs folder structure so for an instance you'll have to save inside your src folder, inside a folder com, an finally inside a folder myPersonalDomain . src/com/myPersonalDomain, and the AS Package name should be the same as the CFC.
Once you're done and click finish, you'll see for files created, one of the the AS VO , and three CFCs.
yourDataTable.CFC
This is a CFC that creates the VO or DTO in CFC, it has the same properties definition that the AS version has, also the setters and getter for every property.
yourDataTableDAO.CFC
This CFC contains all the code that handles the database access it a could be an insert, update delete or just a read query.
yourDataTableGateway.CFC
This is a bridge between your Flex app and your CFCs, it contains a set of methods commonly use when you access a DB, this CFC invocates the methods in the yourDataTableDAO.cfc and returns an object or an array of objects of yourDataTable.CFC type to Flex.
In Flex what do you have to do in order to use VOs?
Add a reference to yourDataTable.as class
Create a remote object.
Create the event handler(s)
Make a call to the remote object.
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import com.myPersonalDomain;
import mx.controls.Alert;
import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent;
private var myDummyVar:myDataTable;
private function myEventHandler(e:ResultEvent):void{
//do Something
trace(event.result.toString());
]]>
</mx:Script>
<mx:RemoteObject id="myRO" destination="ColdFusion"
source="com.myPersonalDomain.myDataTableGateway">
<mx:method name="getAll" result="myResultHandler(event)"
fault="Alert.show(event.fault.toString())" >
</mx:RemoteObject>
<mx:Button label="Call CF" click="myRO.getAll()" />
Well I hope this would help you, I'm kinda tired this has been by far the largest post I've written.

• How to use application builder to generate installation disk without compiling the the support files?

Hello,
What I am trying to do is to use LV application builder generating an installation disk without compiling the support files. I mean:
the support fils like the help files are located on a different directory , for example, installation disk is D drive, help file directory is: D:\Help\..., not compiled in the installation Data set.
So, when the installation disk is running, it only copy this directory file into the destiny directory. Of course, we can write a different bat file to do this. However, beside this method, is there any way, like using LV application builder to do this without writing a batch file. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

For LabVIEW 7.1, this can be done in a few short steps. First, add your help file as a support file in the Application Builder. Then go to the Installer tab, choose to create an installer and click on the Files button at the bottom. From this dialog (shown below), you can specify the destination for each component in your install package. If you have added your help file as a support file, it will show up in the Files in Installation list. Click on your help file to highlight it. You can now choose where to install the file to by specifying an installation destination and a subdirectory. The default subdirectory is called data, but if you want to change that, just type in a new subdirectory name as I have done below:
Hope this helps!

• How do i measure the frequency of a sine wave using a field point counter module

I need to measure the frequency of the sine wave using field point. is it possible and if yes how. do i need to convert the sine wave signal to square wave. Please let me know.

It probably would be easiest to convert the sine wave to a square wave with a simple external circuit and then use a counter module to measure the frequency. There is a shipping example in LabVIEW that shows how to measure frequency with a FieldPoint Counter module.

• How to output a TTL signal from a sine wave [Please Help]?

Hi evryone!
I am a bit lost...
We make the acquisition of voltage (sine wave, 3Hz) which I simulated by a waveform generation in my VI. We want to convert this analog signal to a TTL and output it with a multifunction DAQ (6230).
I only used Analog to Digital.vi and DAQmx write.vi and I can't get it to work... I get a TTL which is not 3Hz and only If I input a frequency like 3.07 and not 3.00 !!
Did I forget something ?

In your vi, you don't have DAQmx Timing setup. I don't know what the default value is. But the timing determines how fast the DAQ will output values. If not set correctly, you may see slight change in the output frequency. Another thing is that the timing is based on a master clock, like 50MHz. The clock gets divided down until it gets near the desired setting. So it may not be able to achieve 3KHz exactly. If you are getting 3.07KHz, this may be why. I don't know if there is anything you can do about it. Try using the timing vi and setting different sample rates.

• Generate n sine waves and add them together

Hi
I'm new to Labview and I want to generate n number of sine waves and add them together to form one signal that can be out put through a DAQ card. Each successive wave frequency will be the multiple of a base wave all will be the same amplitude.
This to me suggested a For loop with a sig generator and a passback in it but when I tried this it threw an error because the dt were different.

• Generate two sine waves with time delay

I have not been using the waveform generation tools so I hope this is an easy one for somebody. I want to create two sine waves at different frequencies say F1 = 1.00 KHz and a second at F2 = 1.20 KHz. I know that to combine them into one I can just add them. Them problem I have is that I want F1 to start first then a few millisecond later have F2 sum into F1.
T0 = F1
T0 + Delay = F1 + F2
Is there a VI capable of a time delay? Tried to sum individual signals together but seems more difficult because of the waveform cluster format.

Hi Michael,
It would be really good to understand your application a little more so that any specific needs that you have may be met. In the meantime, I would also suggest searching on ni.com for "pwm" or other keywords that relate to your application. You will see a faceted navigation on the left side that allows you to narrow your search for example code, tutorials, etc.
Please post back with more information and the community will be able to help out with suggestions.
