How to use Reader Extensions - or do I need Livecycle?

I'll start with saying that I am totally new to Livecycle. I've downloaded a demo of Designer to see if it helps with some of the processes I am currently doing in Acrobat.
The only tool I really NEED from Livecycle is the ability to have the end user attach a file in Reader. This would be managers attaching supporting documents for employee evaluations.
I've found that this can be done with Read Extensions but I have no idea how to enable my form to use these or how to even start.
Where can I get a tutorial for this process OR is this more than I need to be doing JUST to have attachments enabled in Reader.

Reader users can attach files as comments, either to an AcroForm or a static XFA form. The type of attachments you're asking about can only be enabled in Reader with LiveCycle Reader Extensions, which is entirely different than LiveCycle Designer and costs quite a bit more. The only other place you can get it is through DataLogics with their Adobe PDF Java Toolkit: http://www.datalogics.com/products/pdf/pdfjt/
See if attaching files as comments is sufficient though. An alternative would be for the managers to use Acrobat. Standard is sufficient.

I am using livecycle designer ES and livecycle reader extensions es to create some PDF files. I want to use the new feature action builder, so I downloaded the designer ES3. After creating some new files, I tried to use livecycle reader extensions es (old version) to convert the file to add the saving function to adobe reader. It could not convert the file successfully and stuck at downloading the file page as the attached screen. Does that mean I have to upgrade livecycle reader extensions es to es3? Thanks in advance.

Flash Player 10 broke the Reader Extensions sample application included with LiveCycle ES 8.0.1, and 8.2.1. When you use it, it will essentially hang. The workaround is to revert back to Flash Player 9 on those machines you use as LiveCycle clients.
This problem has been fixed in LC 8.2.1 SP3 as well as in ES2.
The key is to either upgrade your server or downgrade to an earlier (9) version of the flash player. (copying from the google group)
As you said, this issue is due to the changes in security in flash
player 10. The Reader Extensions webUI leverages flex. For LiveCycle
8.2.1, the file dialog automatically pops up after conversion is
complete. However, in flash player 10, there were changes to how file
reference are is handled. Since it is possible to pop up a file
dialog based on user action), and automatically poping up that file
dialog based on the old code base will no longer work. This is a
known issue in LC ES 8.2.1, and downgrading to flash player 9 works.
However, in fix pack 2 of LiveCycle ES Update 1. (8.2.1.2), this bug
on flash player 10 has been resolved with an explicit button to
download the file.

Want to use Reader Extensions for highlighting and adding comments

Hi,
The basic use for which we plan to use Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions is for highlighting and adding comments.
In a J2EE application, we create PDF document at runtime using (PDFBox). The purpose to use Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions is when the end user sees the PDF created he/she should be able to add highlights and add comments to the PDF document and save it back to server.
The question is what all I need to do. Just install Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions on the server. What should be done specifically when the PDF is created using PDFBox? Add any information to the PDF so that when PDF is viewed by the user he/she can add comments or highlight.
Can I get sample application and I also need Developer Guide. I think Developer guide comes with the setup? Did not find any place where I can down load a demo setup of Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions.
Can you please guide me in the right direction? I am collecting more information as I search the internet and go through the forum, but it will be very helpful if someone can give correct information.

I was reading Adobe Reader SDK document (Acrobat_SDK_overview.pdf), in that it is mentioned under
About rights-enabled documents:
You cannot programmatically rights-enable a PDF file.
Well I am confused, because my requirement is like this:
1. PDF is created using (PDFBox) as part in a J2EE application.
2. After the PDF has been created, from the J2EE application, the PDF will be send to LiveCycle Extensions to right enable it. (There is no user interface, and it is planned to be done programatically using Adobe libraries. The PDF will be send to LiveCycle Server and Right Enabled PDF will be returned.)
So if there is no way to "programmatically rights-enable a PDF file", how can it be done without having an web interface?
Just to confirm, PDF can be prgramatically right-enabled using LiveCycle libraries right? I have to right enable PDF files prgramatically and not using LiveCycle web interface.

Using Reader Extension

I have downloaded the Reader extension(I think). How do you get it to work. Specifically to embed new user rights in documents.??

If you installed reader extensions, you should see that in your web browser as a favorite. I loaded it on my own computer, and it has to have a webserver. I use Windows XP professional and it works.
The first time you access the "website" you have to set a password. I think the help file with it shows a default password.
If you load it on your local machine, it will show a LOCALHOST as the address, with a weird port.
If ya get there, you should be able to set user rights.
The instructions are awful. I had it a week before I found where it was installed.

How to use Reader in non-interactive persistent mode to convert PDFs?

How to use Adobe Acrobat Reader in non-interactive and persistent mode to convert PDFs to PostScript (or even better, bitmapped image files) ?
At present, I'm using
acroread -toPostScript indir/*pdf outdir/
to convert a set of PDFs to PostScript (the platform is Solaris on Sparc).
These PDFs arrive at varying rates at arbitrary intervals and I'd like to avoid the overhead of startup of the acroread process and loading of the fonts etc. I would like the acroread process to become persistent and that it should convert the PDFs either as and when they become available or on demand (ie upon receipt of some signal or message).
In the words, the usage is similar to that used by web browsers, which is effectively a client of the rendering service provided by the Adobe Acrobat Reader running in the background.
The only difference is that I need the output in a file (or set of files), either bitmap or PostScript.
Any help / pointers on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

As I understand, you would like to setup a watch folder which will be getting pdf files in arbitrary intervals. You then want each pdf to be converted to ps in a separate folder.
You could achieve this with the help of a script by polling for pdf files present in the watch folder. When you find pdf files, convert them to ps, save the ps file in another folder and then move the pdf to another folder.
In any case, once the process of conversion of pdf to ps is over, acroread will quit.
There is no way to keep the acroread process running in background and convert pdfs as and when they are available.

Key fields are nothing but the common fields with which you can pick the data from the second internal table.
If you can paste your Internal table fields then we will be able to assit you better.

Does anybody know how to use a property (e.g. myapp.host.name) in a WSDL file to dynamically switch between a certain host through the use of a property file?
My property file would look like this:
myapp.host.name=<some-ip-address-or-dns>
myapp.host.port=1234
I would save this property file as myapp.properties.
In a WSDL file that I receive from a 3rd-party I want to remove the hardcoded hostname and replace it with my property. For instance, something like this:

should be replaced by this:

I have used the method you have mentioned to change the target end point. And that was successful. Thank you. Apart from this I have another issue. I want my web service read some database related values from properties file only when the web service is deployed. Currently the java application read the database related values in a static block. I have made this java application to a web service. I am new to java and thought of there may be something like ServletContextListener where I can read properties file. This allows me to read properties file only when the web application is deployed.

i am not at system right now, but I guess object is VBBK. you can do SE16 on STXH, put name as your invoiuce#, iD as your text id, object as VBBK and see if it returns the row. if not leave object as blank and see hwat does it return for object for the given key

I am working on the mapviewer. But my problem is that I can not connect mapviewer, or I can not start mapviewer using the embedded oc4j by jdeveloper. In mapviewer faq I read that:

The Mapping group is currently working on an upgrade.

you need to pass custom structure in that..
ands conactenate 12 field of your structure and pass in to value1 in bapirex structure and append.
