How to use webmail address book on Mac Mini Server with Lion Server.

I have a Mac Mini Server with Lion Server installed; the webmail is setup and working but I can not get the address book to work.
I have followed an instruction from this website on how to activate the address book icon in webmail but can not add any addresses.  Is there something that needs to be activatied before it will work?

No, I didn't solve the problem. The monitor still goes to sleep with WIndows but not with my Mac Mini. About 8 months ago I basically wore out the power switch on my monitor so I bought a wireless power switch to shut it off at the outlet. The VX2835wm monitor itself is now starting to fail as well-- a couple of times it's gone through a weird sequence of flashing screen colors on power up and ended up in an overscan mode (that took me for ever to figure out how to fix). I have decided to replace my VX2835wm with a Dell u2412m once it fails for good partly because I really want to keep the 16:10 resolution (very hard to find these days) and partly because I want to see if a different make of monitor will go to sleep properly based upon my Mac Mini power down settings.

  • How to use each machines's HD as a backup with Lion Server accounts?

    Hi,
I am the administrator of a network for a small business.
We have 6 machines (iMac running OSX Lion) and one Mac Mini running OSX Lion Server.
Every user is logging on their machines with their network account, which means that they (by default) save all their documents on the Mac Mini server.
The good side of this is that:
    a) Any user can log in from any machine
    b) Every document that the user has is backed-up at regular time intervals thanks to Time Machine.
Although the networks access tends to slow down the machine (especially with big Excel spreadsheets), and each iMac has massive hard drives that are all 95% empty.
Is there a way to easily setup an appropriate policy so that I can leverage the big size of each machine's hard drive, and reduce network access?
(i.e. each user loads all the configuration from the network at login, then works on his/her local drive until he/she logs out, and a full back-up from the local drive to the distant folder is made once a day / once a week???)
    Thanks,

Hello & welcome to the foruns!
Maybe I can help with one facet...
Just a quick note for people who use Elgato’s EyeTV on their Macs in New Zealand. I’ve got an Automator script here that will fetch a TV schedule and load it into EyeTV. It takes care of deleting the file it downloads but you might need to open it (use the Automator program) to change where it downloads to.

  • Is there a way to use OS 10.6.8 Address Book v.5.0.3 with Lion

I find Lion Address Book v.6.1 information restrictive when it opens, in that it only shows the book itself. Snow Leopard shows the groups, and when "All" is selected we see a lot more addresses as well as being able to scroll to all addresses,  whereas with Lion's Address Book v.6.1, one has to flip trough all the pages of the book to see all addresses.
Hence my question, is there a way to use Address Book v.5.0.3 with Lion. Or is there a way to modify Lion's Address Book v.6.1 to "look" like v.5.0.3?

    Hello t:
But, I cannot find a software downloader that will install the MM prefs pane for using the MM? Is >there some way to use it?
If you are speaking of using it under OS X 10.5, this is the link:

    Notice OS X 10.5.8 is a prerequisite.

  • Shared Address Book and Contacts on iPhone from Lion Server

    Hi,
I'm considering converting my current Lion Mac Mini into a Lion Server as I like to look of some of the features it has. However I have a question about the shared Calendar and Address Book which Lion Server can provide.
My wife and I both have iPhones, I have read up some articles on the device management provided through Lion Server, but I was wondering how invasive this is? I'd like to enroll both iPhones with my Lion Server and allow access to a shared calendar and address book from it, but without affecting any of the existing calendars or address books currently on the phone (my wife syncs her contacts and calenders with Gmail, I use iCloud etc...). Is it possible to push out a config to both phones which adds the new calendar and address book without wiping each phone?
    Rich

Yes, this happened to me too and as a matter of fact I noticed it when I was already at the Apple Store at the Genius Bar for another iPhone issue. However, it seemed to fix itself when we did a restore to the iPhone. I would try another sync first. If they are still messed up, then I would do a "Replace Contents - Contacts" in the iTunes Info tab once your iPhone is connected.

Was just on the phone with Apple about this.
The solution was as follows for me anyway...
    Go to your Finder
    Choose the Go Menu
    Choose Computer
    Choose your Macintosh Hard Drive
    Choose your "Library" Folder
    Choose the "Preferences" Folder
There should be a folder called "Audio"
Move that whole folder to the trash
    Empty the Trash
    Restart from the Apple Menu
    When you are back up and running;
Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu
         Choose Sound
In the output tab you should now be able to make the HDMI "Sticky"
Enjoy your sound over HDMI and no more dirty knees or broken backs unplugging the desktop speakers!

  • How to Import Outlook Address Book into Mac Address Book?

I will be making an employment change and need to import my pc Outlook addresses into my mac email addresses. After repeated emails to Apple and apple support phone calles no one can help because I am not going from a mac to a mac. Unbelieveable. Actually it's not-the lack of customer services these days should not surprise me.
Anyway, anyone know how to do to save me having to re-type hundreds of addresses?
    Thanx!
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

You need to export your Outlook contacts into a VCard format.
There are many programs out there that will do this for bulk jobs. But, you can do it for free if you are willing to do it manually.
Select each contact one at a time from Outlook. Then, go up to the menus (I think it's the file menu) and choose export, then choose to export it as a VCard.
I'm not in front of a PC. But, I remember doing it that way for about 80 something cards when I moved from my PC.
Once you have them in a VCard format, you can just drag and drop them into Apple's Address Book.
It takes some time to do it this way if you have a ton of contacts. But, it does work.
I think the PC format might be VCF but it is VCard.
Apple uses a different format of VCard than Microsoft does. So, you won't be able to use Microsoft's Export to export all the cards at one time.
That method will not allow you to import them into Apple's address book since they are different formats.
But, it will work if you export each individual record one at a time, and then drag each one into Apple's Address Book.
Additionally, if you find a web-mail service like GMail or Yahoo, or something like that that can synchronize with both the PC and the Mac, then you could try moving it to one of those services and then to Apple's address book.
For an automated system, check out:
    http://www.littlemachines.com/
You can also read Apple's document on the subject here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=AddressBook/4.0/en/ad808.html
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I share address books between Mac's and ipod touch and iphone

I try to share some of the address books with my family on our Macbooks, ipod touch and ihopnes.
Similar as with iCal via the cloud.

    HI Sig,,
I have enabled the address book in icloud. But I do not se a buttonin the address book where I can make the choice which address book to share ?

  • How do I setup Address Book to view shared contacts on Exchange Server 2010?

At work we have MS Exchange Server 2010.  I recently switched from Entourage to native OSX Lion apps Mail, iCal and Address Book.  Mail and iCal work fine so far with Exchange (IE. I can add delegates, see their calendars, etc.) but when using Address Book, I can only see my contacts.  In Entourage I was able to search other user's contacts and copy them to mine if I desired.  Is this not possible with Address Book?

Are you sure you did that right ... because I did a File/Backup Address Book, and the file named included the date. I then copied the file through our Airport network from the Powerbook to a new iMac. The opening Address Book on the iMac, I did a File/Revert to Address Book Backup, which allows you to choose the file. Now the iMac had the same Address Book file as the Powerbook. This looks to me to be the same thing you are trying to do.

  • Weird "speed brake" on Mac Mini 2009 with Lion

    Hi all,
this is bizarre: I have a Mac Mini from 2009 running Lion (with server).
For weeks (months?), it's been incredibly slow, spinning beachball of death and all.
When I look at the Disk Activity pane of Activity Monitor, for example when starting multiple applications, I peak at about 3.3 MByte/s... usually, the throughput (read or write) is no more than in the triple 100KByte/s range !
When I run Blackmagic DiskSpeedTest on the same drive, it consistently delivers around 55 MByte/s.
At first, I thought it was my Drobo slowing things down (as I can't get more than 5MByte/s out of that), so I deinstalled Drobo Dashboard completely, also removing Kernel Extensions, etc. But that wasn't the issue, apparently. Even when I eject the Drobo, performance doesn't get better.
Anyone have an idea what on earth this might be?
I would hate to have to reinstall my system, that would be a mound of work.
    Thank you!
    Best regards,
    Hans

HDD failing? Do you have a second partition with OS X/Windows/Linux on the computer that you can run the speed tests from?
The speed may not actually be to do with the HDD, though. Speed tests sometimes are over-optimistic. It might be to do with apps running in the background, caching to disk, anything really.

  • How can I get Font Book to install new fonts with Lion OS X without crashing?

Font Book is unresponsive using Lion 10.7.1. When I click on Font Book icon in the dock, I get "Application not Responding". Can't install any new fonts. Anyone else having this issue?
I can get to the open Font Book window if I click on Mission Control to get there, but once there I see spinning wheel, which does not stop.
Any suggestions on how to get Font Book to work well on Lion?

Quick update... I removed all non System fonts from ~/Library/Fonts and deleted com.apple.fontbook.plist from ~/Library/Preferences.
Now FontBook doesn't crash when launched.
I think I'm going to use a 3rd party application to manage all non Apple/System fonts. Hopefully that will avoid any future problems.

  • How do I get PHP's mail function to work with Lion Server?

I've turned on the Mail Server, tried relaying mail through my ISP, and it's not working. I'm used to using the mail function, so that bit should be working. Do I need to edit the php.ini file?

Did you actually run Software Updateafter installing 10.7 to see if there are updated drivers from HP?
HP drivers are updated through Apples Software Update.
See also this from HP. which indicates that the 1200 series is supported on 10.7

  • How do I make Address Book default for vCards

I use Apple Address Book (6.0) and have the Lion O/S 10.7.1on my 2 Macs.  My Apple Address book syncs with my Gmail (Google Apps) contacts. Recently when I opened a vCard, Outlook for the Mac attempted to open the vCard.  I cancelled this as I no longer us Outlook for the Mac, but have only used Apple Mail and Address Book for several months.  As I cancelled the opening process, there was a brief message, "Rebuilding database".  About 30 minutes later I realized that all contacts in my Apple Address Book were missing. I quickly looked at my Gmail contacts and saw that the only contact was the one for the vCard I imported.  After recovering from a panic attack (I have over 2,000 names in my contact list), I went to my Macbook Air laptop, which was asleep during this time, and was able to export my Address Book to my iMac. The Macbook Air Address Book had synced with Google Apps the day before.
After the recovery, everything seems in order except when I check for duplicates in Google Apps Mail Contacts, I find that I now have 2,000 duplicate contacts.  When I check for duplicates in Apple Mail I am told there are 83 duplicates.
I am still not sure what caused this to happen and I am still considering how to prevent this in the future, and how to resolve the duplicate contacts issue.  I need to understate which contact list dominates - Apple or Gmail?
But my first step is to make Address Book the default for vCards.  How to I do this.  Next I will work on the duplicate problem.

I don't have or use Outlook 2011 but based on my past experience wth Outlook and Entourage it uses its own contacts by default and can't be configured to use an external resource. However, you might learn more on the Outlook support forums since this forum is primarily for Apple products.

    Welcome to Discussions!
In Finder, click Go>Home, open "Library", open "Preferences", find the files com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist and com.apple.AddressBook.plist and move them to your desktop.
Then log out and log in again, and try again.
    Good luck!

  • Purchased mac mini server with lion, can i download lion for my macbookpro ?

    Hi,
I bought a mac mini server with lion server. I have macbookpro with Snowleopard. Do i need to purchase Lion again to install in macbookpro ?
I registered my mac mini with my apple id .. still when i check app store in my macbook it is asking me to purchase again.
    Can someone clarify ?
    - thanks LP.

Yes. What came on your Mini cannot be installed on your other computers. You will have to purchase and download Lion for the MBP. If you wish to install Lion server on the MBP, then you will have to purchase and download Lion Server, too.
